Pete, first of all, what do you
make of what Shaman is done over the last month for you
guys? I mean he's been absolutely carving. He's done a
phenomenal job. I mean he's just been on a heater in the
second half. He's pitching late in the ball games.
Punching guys out pounding the Zone consistently,
I mean he's been he's been on fire for us overall offensively.
What did you like about about the group's at-bats
tonight? I mean every single every single guide put up
extremely high quality at-bats and that was those huge for us and
that's a really good way to start. The series. I'm sure if you're aware you
tied, Mike Piazza on the franchise, home run list.
What does that mean to you?
Yeah, yeah, people told me after the
game and Mike was a childhood hero of
mine. So that's, that's really special because I mean for me, he's one of those
guys I looked up to growing up and it's that's really special and I'm
just happy that I was able to help contribute tonight in a
positive way, have good at-bats and get us on the board early there.
So yeah, it's just all. Yeah, it's really, really cool. Really, really cool. You get a chance to think about what your place is
in Mets, history, is that something for later in your
life? It's something that I don't
really like like to think of during the during the season,
but a lot like those those certain
moments they really set in like during the offseason. So that's
when that's when I have time to like
think about and reflect on some things. But yeah, those like
this moment is really special but I don't think it's really
going to set it until Total Seasons done for sure. Keeping your head on straight.
Does that Dynamic any different this time of year this year before free agency,
after six seasons? Now honestly it's really the, it's
really the same because for me, I'm just, I'm
just trying to help the team win every single day, and I think we have a little bit
over a month of baseball left. And for me, I just, I just want
to help contribute any way I can, in a positive way, so so we can help. So I can help
the team win. And yeah. How much fun is this team? This team. Only special, it's
just such a great group and I mean, it's, I mean, this
year's been a blast. I mean, it's just been an absolute
blast. And I have a really, really special, really special place for all the
guys, all the guys in this Clubhouse,
and my heart. And it's just, it's just it's a really fun
group. It's a really fun group. Oh, you came to the playoffs into the playoffs
of your round with the Padres you came so close. Do you consider it like unconsummated? Is that you need
to get this done. Honestly I just I just want to
control my efforts and contribute in a positive way
every single day and at the end of the year, the group effort. I think that
we're going to be there. I think if we continue to play good baseball like we have
in the in the second half, I think we'll get there for
sure. It's always, it's always great.
Getting the first first one in the series and we need to need to bounce
back tomorrow and and stay locked in. I mean, it's come
down the home, stretch here and staying locked into super
important. Sean? How would you describe the type of stretch of put together
here? Now, over the last month, just feeling good with
everything. Have a lot of confidence and all my pictures
and attacking guys and getting ahead
and finish him off. So It's it was, it was really good. No,
it at the beginning of this stretch, you didn't really need
to use The Change-Up that much. But Carlos Mendoza again, mentioned
how that pitch was, particularly big for you
tonight. What what have you done to kind
of turn that pitch into such a strength over the course of
the season? I mean, I feel like a lot of
things that made is just based on feel and finally found a grip and like a cue that makes me feel. You know The Change-Up and to the run with it and you know, once I realized like metrically like it
was good slowly but surely just begin
confidence in it and you shouting just building off the last one and I
feel good Wendy Max a box of the hottest offenses in big
weeks but you carve through pretty easy
for six Innings. What it was? There any any way to attack this team or
anything like that? What was the plan and just getting ahead of guys His own and just trust myself
and yeah, that's pretty much always
a game plan. Feel like if I'm able to do that, throw my pitches were strikes. Usually pretty good. So obviously they're very good
team. So be able to do that. Here was used to describe you. Recently
is absolutely carving. Does it feel like you're absolutely? I don't know about that. I'm
just feeling good and control and things like control. And, you know, get a great defense behind me
and all those things and that's that's what's happening along in the fifth, you come
right back out. I think it was 12 30. What is that? Like, just sort of
watching that and then having to come out and after
resting, for a long, long time, it's amazing. No offense, has been doing a
credible job and, you know, those Innings, it's my
job to stay loose and ready and God. Ringing, pretty good job of that. A sense that you're back to
where you were with the A's. You know. I'm not trying to worry about the past or anything
like that. Just, you know taking one step at a time
and just feeling good where I'm at right now. Would you do did make
adjustments this year? That has put you back
into this this position. So I imagine you
learned from the last couple of years. Yeah. I mean last couple years
have been been tough and And a lot of lessons. But, you know, definitely one from just, like I said, making
adjustments and just feeling good. Barometer the major
adjustments, mechanically, just simplifying
everything and, you know, getting to a point where I can
repeat it consistently and just being able to attack guys
on a consistent basis and that's pretty much the main
thing just doing that, simplifying, everything and
attacking us.
