as we are counting down to a highly anticipated matchup which will wrap up week one in the National Football League we are happy to be down here we are happy to be together again and I'm fired up to be alongside Super Bowl champion and Emmy Award winner it's Ryan Clark a first round Drive pick from the Dallas Cowboys and a national champ at LSU Marcus Spears and I'm just Scott Van P I have no accolades of any kind but collectively we are thrilled to welcome in a six-time first team yeah all NFL selection Champion six times six times future gold jacket wear you got a podcast that apparently is doing fairly well and all that said Jason Kelsey is wearing a shirt he got at the mall cuz he left his travel bag in the truck left the bag in the truck my uh fits my belly now I've lost a little bit of weight but my tits are still struggling hey the the fact that a Hall of Fame Center can shop at Lululemon that's big man that's a big accomplishment that's true that's not that middle of the mall right there're we're excited to be together here we have a great game to wrap this up and look the story line here we really could go in either direction and we'll get to San Francisco because they were NFC champions a season ago but fellas we were in New York last year it's 911 Rogers comes out of the tunnel the excitement was palpable it was real four plays we all know the story now it's been 600 days swag since this man's played a game 610 and I think guys like Tom Brady and LeBron James who were in advancing ages trick us into thinking that you can just go out there and be who you've always been is that a reasonable ask of this man right now I don't think it's reasonable tonight but I do think Aaron Rogers Talent can keep this team afloat and have a chance late in this game you mentioned this Guys 600 plus days of no not playing football and Bosa is going to be out there on the edge and the games that I watched this year so far quarterbacks have had to move regardless of if they wanted to or if it was a part of the built-in plan so I'm excited to see Aaron Rogers back on the feel happy for him in his rehab and getting back out here but it's going to be a tall task to get it done man Jason I ask you as a as a guy who made his living up there on the line their line was a mess last year quarterback play suffered as a result in part because of that they've addressed it but they're trying to put together a lot of pieces that haven't been together for a long time how long does continuity take to build it it takes time and it takes live reps and I mean you guys don't play in the preseason anymore they have two new tackles they have a young Center they're going to be presumably on silent count here at an away game six-hour flight there's a lot of things to really hit stride and expect to be clicking Full Throttle game one but I mean you just ask about Aaron Rogers my thing on Aaron is we've seen when you have these older quarterbacks go in these situations with a great defense you saw it with pton Manning in Denver you saw it uh with Tom Brady and Tampa Bay all of a sudden now he's in such a great situation I don't know if it's going to click tonight but eventually it's going to and it's going to be fun to watch and maybe that's maybe that's the larger Point here isn't it Ryan when it comes to to Rogers understanding like he chose to go here for a reason and it got cut painfully short for everybody associated with the Jets you know what it is to compete you also know what it is to go out back into the arena what's what's he feel tonight if you're if you're Aaron Rogers it's when you get to be human again and you're asking for superhuman things from him when you say playing at the age of 40 and playing at the level that people are going to expect him to but there's a nervousness that makes this game beautiful there's a sense of butterflies anticipation he absolutely because Aaron Rogers is just a man right you saw Rocky for just a man Ro he bleeds yeah Aaron Rogers bleeds and that's what he learned on the fourth play of the season last year and he's been waiting for 610 days to complete a game and he understands what's on his shoulders and what the city of New York believes that he can do for the New York Jets he's going to feel that tonight but eventually he'll settle in and we'll get to see why he's one of the greatest of all time we got a couple hours to chop this up and talk about things from all angles with that in mind we welcome in Adam schfer with us Adam great to be with you the San Francisco side of things man they they they had a lot to deal with in this off season they had some players that were standing on business trying to get their money they did they have an MVP who's battling an injury what have they had to deal with since they lost that Super Bowl in Vegas in tonight's game well Scott it's hard enough to bounce back from losing a Super Bowl not to mention having your star wide receiver embroiled in a contract dispute throughout the Summer where the team sends him a 5-day letter that basically warns him he's got to get back to practice or he could miss the season that happened with Brandon auk before he gets a four-year $120 million deal done they had their left tackle Trent Williams holding out in training camp he didn't show up until he got his deal done last week and their star running back Christian mcaffry has been dealing with a calf and an Achilles injury that's bothered him since last summer let's keep in mind he didn't practice at all all during training camp he was only back in a limited fashion last week and last week when mcaffrey and auk and Trent Williams actually stepped on the field it was the first time all off SE that all were on the field together and this doesn't even include their first round draft pick Ricky peol nearly losing his life in a shooting incident so this team has had any number of instances where there's been some bad vibes around this team in the off season but now it's the regular season and now it's time to defend their NFC title we'll see what they can do tonight Scott Adam thanks plenty more from him in the next hour and change as we lead up to tonight's game and RC on the San Francisco side let's start with auk I think we we all like to talk football people like to argue football I don't think anyone in their right mind would argue Jerry Rice's the greatest wide receiver that ever played in the history of this organization he's the only guy that had more receiving yards in his first four years and Brandon aayu whatever his role might be tonight pitch count or not what does he provide this team he provides the one guy on this team that could get open no matter what the play call is no matter the coverage let's see some of the things he was able to do last year and if you're only going to utilize him in some spaces let's utilize Brandon auk on third down Brandon auk finds ways to get open no matter what you do from a coverage standpoint he's the one guy you don't have to move around you don't have to put him in motion you don't have to give some sort of eye candy to the defense here you're going to see he's the point guy in the bunch he's going to eventually run the Dig you have your two best players right Debo Samuel Christian mcaffrey they're going to be short watch how he leans on Patrick Peterson here to create the space and then he's going to get across the field Brock p is able to step up in the pocket and get him the football also watch how he works here he's the number one wide receiver off of the line of scrimmage he's going to be facing a catch technique by Darius Slay dips the shoulder gets outside watch the timing of this throw as soon as he's out of his break Brock pie knows exactly where Brandon auk is going to be easy pitching catch now here's the play I love you're going to get a Zone coverage which is eventually going to end in the cover two instead of playing the cloud technique forcing him inside watch the corner sink under Brandon auk he's going to feel that now he's going to exit to the sideline Brock py knows exactly where he's tied into him gets the football out easy pitch and catch those were three third Downs so if I'm going to use Brandon I you tonight is going to be in those situations because of the chemistry and Synergy has with Brock pie but also his ability to get open against any coverage again there's thought that it might be a limited number of snaps for him tonight we wondered the same thing about Chase with Cincinnati he played a bunch CD lamb did the same thing keep an eye obviously on 11 you know that the Jets are going to be doing that and I'm just interested fellas just in the perspective that you can offer on when you've been as close and as good for as many years as San Francisco Jason you're trying to get to that last Rong on the ladder and add to this Rich history that this franchise has I understand the positives you're really good of teams in the league aren't yeah but I wonder about the weight you drag around and you're thinking damn we're this close right the process of trying to finish that last step is is there weight is to associated with that are there negatives at all with how close they've come that didn't get to the ultimate goal yeah going all that way and not getting it is is you know that's gut-wrenching it's almost worse in some ways than not getting there yeah and it's because it's so hard to get there but they have the benefit of knowing how good they are right all of the losses especially last year super loss the the the margin of Victory is so small and they know what they're doing is working they know if they just keep pushing and just keep getting better and just maybe it's a fraction of a way that that might be the difference in them being a Super Bowl losing team and a Super Bowl winning team but why when you're going through that process you're going through the offseason you're lifting weights whatever the case may be you're watching film I I what is that right I mean like how do you figure out how do you decipher that one thing that one rep that's going to lead to the different and maybe you could argue frankly the Packers and the Lions could have gotten them speaking to the to the margin of Victory and how how thin it is SC that's that that's where I was going other teams are getting better while you figuring out how to get that last play made or to finish a Super Bowl run I think it's more so and that's the beauty of this league right you got 17 18 weeks to determine your position and when you talk about getting into the playoffs but more importantly teams are also self-evaluating themselves three years ago we didn't think Detroit would be a true contender in the NFL they are now when you think about the Green Bay Packers and getting Jordan love and seeing what they were able to do on this field the game is starting to even out if you would have asked me four years ago who going to the Super Bowl out the NFC San Francisco 49ers hands down I don't care what happens that ain't the case that's not the conversation we can have you can make a legitimate argument that Detroit lost that game more than San Francisco beat him in that matchup so again really good football team probably in a lot of people Minds the favorite to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl but we also got to acknowledge what Brad Holmes has done in Detroit we also have to acknowledge that teams creep in year in and year out which I think makes the beauty of the league better but this is what I know there is no team in the history of football that has lost the Super Bowl and didn't walk off the field saying we will be back yeah every when you lose that game you feel like you know what it takes to get there you feel like the only reason you didn't come home with the ring was because you didn't execute at the level that you were supposed to and you you 100% feel in your heart that you will be back there again now the thing is it don't always work out like that right Aaron roders is Aaron Rogers is on this field in the Super Bowl and never went back you up here you up here JK yeah that's the thing I love you but you here we criticize them now not safe space safe space like to be honorable here why we fly here and pay the pum you have the Insight unfortunately listen you know what it is to get to the top of the mountain and put your FL it's your brother gets toate right I we get that and I will say we just talked about bruk maybe being limited because he's just getting back and Trent William is just getting back play all of them they got fresh legs I want to see them out on the field all these other guys just been through a full training camp I want to see I you going off that's what I want to see swag I know you got gifts first hold on not yet all right not yet you SC Not the no just I want to get the gifts we'll get to the line here but actually as we are looking live there's karaoke drill get them knees up it's looking good have you seen him in pregame before I warm up very rarely does this evidently this is an it's a bit of a departure I guess you want to feel the grass Beneath Your Feet not a big warm-up guy but when you have him played for a full year it's probably a good idea just maybe I mean it only took 610 days the warm up I think this speaks exactly to what to what RC was talking about man like it's been a long time since he's been able to get out here and it was just a tiny little bite of the Apple last year in the Big Apple on Monday night football against Buffalo and uh Rogers as I said this isn't something he's done a lot of but I think you recognize you're on the back nine of the career and you want to enjoy every little bit of it it's also hell of a nice day it's gorgeous out here California is this is nice this is pretty good this dry yeah this is much different than Philly um but I can't imagine what's going on in his head right now he hasn't played in a full year I tore my ACL and uh coming off of that you wait for that first hit you wait for that first Contact and until it happens you don't know how it's going to feel you don't know what's going to happen so I I look forward to seeing him get back out there to for sure okay so we'll keep an eye on that I mean right now he's just sort of running in a straight line no but it looks good yeah and also you don't want to repeat anything you did that night and so if you didn't warm up that night you're going to warm up warm up today wearing different cleats every Everything has to be different what's the what's the line I'm not superstitious but I'm a little superstitious I I think we all have a little bit well based on what my uncle used to tell me you can do something to warm up it involves a little bit of glass ah I don't think he want whiskey or yeah say if it works it works all I'm saying is whenever the Jets get their first home game I want to see him run up the tunnel with that American flight no doubt that's got to be stap I believe that I believe that they will repeat all right so we were were intending to talk about the Lions and we will right now their season ended on this field last year in a game where frankly uh they had the game in not in control but it was it was a game they LED throughout and had they won it wouldn't have been an accident or a mistake they enter this season guys with the reality that there is expectation on them for the first time in a long time they've changed from being a kind of a Plucky upstart that beat Rogers and Lambo to knock them out of the playoffs to making the playoffs and making it to here and now maybe a Super Bowl team for them to win the way they did and I'll go to the Old Line guy first here I I saw you on the Twitter uh you were fired up about dirty it felt like a secret I shouldn't tell anybody I madean 45 yards uh Montgomery had him overtime alone yeah I mean you want to talk about imposing your will a tie game goes to overtime something this an even matchup there wasn't nothing even I heard 49 or uh Rams Fans talking about hey we should have got the ball back hey after that happens to you you shouldn't get the ball back that was the moralizing look at the way he they ran this right down the throat they finish it off right behind Su to win the game and now the luxury of the options that they have on offense you've got Gibbs and Montgomery in the back field Williams yesterday J J Mo looked like the guy we heard about sometimes Camp chatter is not real yeah there it is oh my gosh his his nipples almost popped out the button right there the the thing that I love about what we saw from Detroit work was they're still themselves they're unapologetically the team that Dan Campbell has built when it got ugly when it was time to get overtime they felt like they had worn the Rams down and they didn't turn right they said we're going to turn around we're going to hand this football off and you have to stop us it's demoralizing to know what a team is going to do especially when it's the run and not be able to stop you ever got punched in the tip of your nose and them tears stop them they just kept coming that's what happened man I've been in these situations and it was devastating that I was going to have to sit next to this man after watching the de cuz you know how that goes in the locker room oh yeah here's the problem though right when you think about the Rams from from their standpoint you got to figure that out bro y'all know this what goes on in the Monday meeting oh they coming again whoever you play next they f test this exact thing Detroit lived in the bane of Dan Campbell that's what they want to do they want to bludgeon people if you go back to week one last year they ran it well against Kansas City Chiefs and was able to get a win as well but the bottom line is this man for the Rams who I think is still going to be there in the end the Rams played well they GI get Stafford all the world they lose n and it sounds like he'll be out for a while Adam will have an update on that they lose offensive lineman and you're trying to you're trying to block big 97 that was kind of hard to do but this Lions team that has now not a burden like pressure is a privilege they have the weight of expectations on their shoulders and they they showed you who they were I think they crazy enough to be really good yeah that would not surprise me one bit they are definitely that all right more to come as we are looking forward to the final game of week one which includes Aaron Rogers looking forward to getting back out on the field he's already out again this is a bit now by Lisa sther and Laura Rin will be on the sidelines with the Jets and ners respectively Laura I'll get to you in just a moment Lisa I'll begin with you and it's a year ago that we were doing this in New York and we had questions about the same guy we have questions about tonight but it feels like there are more layers to this how many more layers are there to the ultimate answer we're hoping to find out and it's that one question Scott that we're all asking it's the same question what's Aaron Rogers going to look like tonight he says he had one of the best training camps of his career and feels like he's playing well but he hasn't played a full game in like you guys have been saying 610 days and players always say you can't simulate game speed and practice Rogers told us he's not worried about taking that first hit tonight in fact he said he's looking forward to getting that first one out of the way he's got some weapons to take some of the offensive pressure off of him running back Bree Hall said he wants Rogers to feel like he can hand it off to him 20 times a game Hall was coming back from a knee injury this time last year and he told me that for the the first time since the injury he now finally feels explosive like himself again and that he can make a play on every touch Rogers is also excited about his wide outs he said Garrett Wilson can do it all and the plan is of course to feature him as much as possible and he said Alan Lazard who followed Rogers to the Jets from Green Bay was one of the brightest spots in Camp as for Mike Williams who signed with the Jets in March he's coming back from an ACL Terror that he suffered just under a year ago when he was with the Chargers so the Jets will have have him on a snap count tonight Scott to ease him into this season Lisa thank you very much Laura joins us now on the ners side and I'm fond of a saying Laura that perspective something we either have or we get Adam Sher was with us earlier and documented the very difficult off season they've had with the business negotiations and of course McCaffrey's injury then what happened to Ricky piol clearly pumps the brakes on what really matters and that lands in their lap how have they processed This Together how's he process this yeah Scott it's well said by you and that was perspective on octob excuse me August 31st when Ricky was shot in and attempted robbery that they weren't expecting to get but it's perspective that has affected this team deeply and after the shooting Ricky went to the hospital it was what Kyle Shanahan described as an excruciating 40 minutes where he was waiting to find out any type of news on the condition of peol and then finally found out that peol was going to be okay but he didn't really even know what that meant peol then shortly after facetimed Kyle Shanahan he said it's one of the best calls he's ever gotten in his life peol even in that phone call asking if he could suit up and play for this game and certainly they do expect peaw to be able to make a full recovery GM John Lynch said that he will even play at some point this season they're just going to give him as much time as possible to make sure that he can fully heal it's not only just the physical part of it Scott but it's the emotional part and Kyle Shanahan told this team don't make him live it over and over just support him it's brought the team together in a big way RC mentioned this earlier on NFL live Trent Williams saying that what happened to peaw was one of the reasons why he decided to just go ahead and come back Scott I think we'll see a resilient 49ers Squad rallying [Applause] [Music] around foree [Music] for [Music] fore yeah get [Music] [Music] for spee spee speech [Music] fore spe
