amidst the inexplicable Agony Terror anguish desperation and fear we became absolutely certain that you were coming home to us alive but it was not to be now I no longer have to worry about you I know you are no longer in danger welcome back to gma3 that's the mother of 23-year-old Israeli American hsh Goldberg Poland one of six Israeli hostages murdered in Gaza last week the funerals for those hostages were held over the past few days this as we saw the largest protest in Israel since the start of the war including one outside of prime minister Benjamin netanyahu's home ABC News foreign correspondent Marcus Moore is there in Israel and Marcus I'm curious what the protesters and the families of these hostages are saying and is there any hope that those remaining hostages will be coming home well Eva uh for first of all there there is hope uh and that's what the the families who we've met um and their friends of those are still being held captive they have hope U that that they can come back alive those who are are believed to to still be alive in Gaza and also that the bodies of the others who have uh presumed to have been killed or passed away that they will be returned um to their families here in Israel there there is the Hope and it's uh one of the things we've heard from people who've taken to the streets every every night really since the October 7th Terror attacks is that they believe that a a ceasefire and a hostage deal uh really is the only hope they have of seeing their loved ones again on the topic of a potential ceasefire deal and those negotiations President Biden meeting with us negotiators here on Monday and he says the Israeli Prime Minister is not doing enough to secure a hostage deal or a ceasefire and where do the prospects for such a deal stand right now Marcus well um will we we heard from prime minister Netanyahu who responded to the sentiment that the belief that he's not doing enough to secure a deal and he was defiant um he said that they will not back down on their core demands uh and one of the sticking points is whether there will be Israeli troops in an area known as the Philadelphia Corridor which is right along the Egyptian border um and Gaza uh that is where the Israelis say that uh arms and and other uh weapons are brought in uh that Hamas has been using um to to attack of Israeli troops and so by leaving that area Netanyahu has said that it would leave Israel open to more to more attacks and so that really is where things stand right now will that that's the big impass because Hamas has said that they want to full withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza and um Netanyahu says that is something that they would never agree to a lot of critics of this war point to the number of Palestinian civilians that have been killed I'm curious right now is there anywhere safe for those people to go Eva based on the the the interviews uh the witness accounts that we have uh that our team has been able to gather uh in Gaza the short answer to that question really is no I mean there have been humanitarian zones set up in Gaza uh that you're well aware of and in months prior uh but even some of these areas have have come under attack and we know that the Israelis have issued warnings telling Palestinian civilians to move away from certain areas where operations would be uh would be unfolding but the the ongoing concern the ongoing criticism is that uh families in in Gaza really have nowhere no safe place to go so how would you describe Israeli sentiment toward their own Prime min right now well it is U it's layered it's nuanced uh there's no one way of thinking in terms of the Israeli public and how they view Benjamin Netanyahu uh of course uh there are people who uh are critical of Netanyahu just in his position as prime minister they don't think he should be uh representing the government and they want him gone um and at the same time they want a ceasefire deal and then you have others who don't NE necessarily uh disagree with Netanyahu as the Prime Minister although they have an issue with how he's been handling the the war and they want a hostage um agreement and then you have others who support him full stop and uh they want this war to continue they say that uh Benjamin Netanyahu is right in that Hamas has to be eliminated and they have to stop at nothing to eliminate Hamas and also ensure that October 7th doesn't happen again ABC news for correspondent Marcus Moore thank you so much for being with us
