well what a day that was Padres fans huh the Padres they get the win over the New York Mets Joe musgrow when he faces this Mets team I mean he turns into 2007 sa Young Award Jake Peavey uh incredible what he has done against them I mean 2023 obviously the 2022 postseason start is what really a lot of Padre's fans identify as like the starting point the biggest moment of his care I know he had the the game four um against the Dodgers and that was a start where he kept the Padre's in the game I think he went six Innings two earned runs but that was really the ear Joe Musgrove game against the Mets winner take all wild card series that's really like the biggest game and he has loved pitching against the Mets really ever since it's almost like he acts like Buck Showalter is up there at the plate when he's facing the Mets like I am going to strike everybody out I am going to dominate you you pissed me off he was already pitching well but like you pissed me off forever trying to embarrass me going out there onto that mound and you know hey check check me for my ears I would use that as motivation for the rest of my career when I face that Mets team um but you know Joe great it was a much better night to be on this side of things what a play he made by the way right what a I've never seen that play by a pitcher and I think Jesse agler I was listening to the radio call after work yeah that was a great radio call because then I went and watch that play and it's like yeah that's probably the best play You're maybe ever going to see by a pitcher like that um so fun night but what made the day even better was you darish surprise return I'm not saying surprise for the rest of the season I was expecting him to return but I wasn't expecting him to return on a August 23d we had we had heard no Rumblings nothing about darish coming back so I maybe I didn't see this so let me know in the comments but was it like Darvish just showed up to the clubhous and everyone was like hey you're back or did the Padre's know he was coming back and just no one said anything there were no leaks and darish just came back because darish pretty much hinted at him returning a little bit before the Padres made that official announcement so I wonder how that all went about there um but no it's good to have darish he's not back back he's he's still on the iil he's going to be ramping back up he threw a couple of live BPS says he feels good so that's great news and so I'm not expecting him to be back till September maybe he and tatis return at the same time it was a good day for tatis as well we know about the sprinting the 70% sprinting that he was doing he took batting practice today on the field for the first time since going on the iil in June Kevin AC says the plan is for him to face live pitching next week so if he faces live pitching next week he goes on a rehab for a week or so maybe a little bit more comes back the week of September 8th through the 14th that's that's pretty good get a good amount of that bats can help the Padre's get that spot into the postseason maybe darish can come back at some point then because I don't know if maybe it'll be the same like Joe Musgrove where he's not fully built up when darish returns and they have Shawn Reynolds pitch or Brian hoing who's been really good have those guys pitch for darish you know with walren going down it's not like darish is gonna pitch on Monday he's not ready but um with walren going down it was a question mark of okay who's going to fill that spot and for how long because there was the uncertainty of Darvish was he going to return or not but knowing that he's going to return Vasquez can fill in or Omar Cruz whoever for a few starts maybe may not even a few starts because I don't think the Padre's have to use a fifth starter if they don't want to for three consecutive times through the rotation so maybe not and there's even less amount of time actually less times through if you're going by that fifth starter before Darvish comes back and starts for the Padre's in a big league game so I was listening to John and Jim earlier today as well driving around and the there was the question of who would be your Wild Card starters right now would it be well not like if the games were right now but just projecting who's who are your wild cards Wild Card starters and that's an interesting one because it's Musgrove and it's Cee and is it king or is it darish now if everything is equal everyone's healthy I'd probably go with darish I'd have King beer on the roster still I'd have King be used in the Wild Card series if you need him to and that's like your best spot and you can have Martin Perez go in a game one in a DS if you get there that's what I would do uh Michael King does he deserve to start yeah probably but it's also UD Darvish and I'm not gonna have UD darish come out of the bullpen I'll have Michael King come out of the bullpen he did that last year so that's how probably I would do it that's not me looking at the numbers that's me obviously not in the building that's how I I don't know what the order would be I mean I want Musgrove pitching the game three just win or take all if you don't have to get there that's great um but you could also say well Ben don't you want Musgrove pitching at least in game two because if you lose game one then that is I mean that's that that's your season right there to pitch game two maybe it would be a wait and see you know because the Mets did that right where they didn't know what they were going to do de Grom would they go game three game two they ended up going game two because the Padre's won game one and then then they won the Mets won that game and then they went bass at game three so I don't know I don't know what the order would be but I probably would go Musgrove Darvish and cease those three King I'd still put him on the roster and Martin Perez haven't pitched game one if King has to pitch um in one of those three games but that's something for later down the road but you know darish coming back obviously it it was it's good news it was a little bit surprising for me today I was not expecting that to see that pop up this morning or early this afternoon whenever that that news came out but Darvish he's one of the higher paid pitchers on this team you know the name you know the track record and he pitched pretty well for the Padres in the postseason and I I compare this to Clayton Kershaw in 2020 how he finally pitched well in the postseason pretty consistently there but it was a shorten season he didn't have as many innings on his arm and this could be that same thing for for darish different circumstances obviously you don't want those personal reasons to to happen with whatever happened there but um he can be fresher here and sure he's going to have to build up but his arm I assume will be much fresher than what it would have been if he was pitching this entire time and if he was pitching this entire time maybe he would have gotten hurt after already being hurt this year so he's on the aisle by the way to ramp up it seems like he is healthy he's throwing he was in full uniform today throwing him and AJ were smiling and profar went out there to to hug darish say welcome back so he was missed I know I miss darish I love watching him pitch and hopefully we can watch him pitch in some pretty big games in the postseason and he can come through [Music]
