e [Music] [Music] [Music] this TR [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] need [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] my my [Music] [Music] [Music] you [Music] [Music] [Music] you e [Music] [Music] hi I'm Steve I spent 34 years Ro mik 10 years owning the LA basketball team I love computers data and B that's why I started us that help understand what our government is up to and what's going on in America I'll share with you the fact data all from our government make up this episode address the but first a quick as I I do a lot of rounding of but the data you see on screen will be more exact so now let's roll please know there's such a squrrel of activity in this issue things might have changed since I recorded this in mid June I can't predict the future but I'll be reading about it when it happens most of us have an story I and maternal grandparents came to the US from what was then Russia and my father came from Switzerland what we're focused on here is how the immigration system works today and what the data says about how many imants have coming out the country I put things into three groups first authorized imant whose fees offer no path the citizensh this includes people allowed on a temporary basis to work or school or to be while are also given to tens of millions of people each year visiting on a shortterm basis like vacation focus on those who live here as temporary residents in the United States category two is authorized immigrants who have the opportunity to follow a path to citizenship this includes those sponsored by a relative or employer as well as people who have been granted Asylum or Refugee status Category 3 is unauthorized immigrants this is a government term that is a bit misleading because as we've researched it I've learned that it included those who are here in violation of our laws but also those who are here seeking Asylum according to laws as they existed since 1980 as well as migrants were pre-approved to come to the United States due to humanitarian crises like what's happening in Haiti or Ukraine there are others in this unauthorized category that are actually entitled to be in the country but more on this lat okay now the we have identified our immigration categories let's dig in group one the federal government awarded just over 2 million non-immigrant pces that do not have a path to citizenship but you allow people to live temporarily in the United States these visas include everything temporary ultural workers to the H1B visas we would have used at Microsoft reserve for those who must have at least a bachelor's degree forign students took up another 700,000 d people coming here to join family is another 330,000 in group two those living here on an authorized basis with the option of citizenship are the recipients of about 500,000 imigrant vas granted mostly to those with a relative who is a citizen who lives here some of these visas also go to immigrants for coming here for work who adopted or who are among the 50,000 people who in a spot the annual Global Lottery held to diversify America's immigrant once these V of recipients arrive in the United States they're transferred to Green Card sta in 2022 there was also an additional 500,000 immigrants who received green cards who were already in the United States that's a soall just one stats a green card is kind of like willly w golden ticket if you're an immigrant it allows you to stay in the US for up to 10 years before you need to renew it and it does provide B to citizenship refugees are approved to come here while abroad and about 26,000 of them came to the United States in 2022 another 37,000 people who were already in the United States were granted decid both refugees and decid Lees apply for in 2022 about a billion people became United States citizens let's do a fact check on authorized immigration based on the 2022 date 2 million people came with out of paath citizenship and 500,000 people arrived with a add in people for granted Asylum and you get to 2.6 million new authorized residents group unauthorized immigrants what is an unauthorized immigrant some examples people who snuck into the country undetected or snuck into the country that then later asked for people who came to custom officials at the border and asked for Asylum people who have come here from somewhere in turmoil like Ukraine and people who have overstay their temporary visas the Department of Homeland Security estimates that the total unauthorized population living in the United States in 2022 the most recent number is around 11 million people in 2010 that estimate was actually higher 11.6 million people when our customs Border Protection officials intercept someone coming through an official point of entry or when they apprehend someone who snuck in between lawful points of Entry they call that the Border encounter there were 3.2 million total border Encounters in 2023 of those 25 million or 77% were at the Southwest Court another 392,000 people came through airports 189,000 people through the northern border with Canada and 144,000 people came to our postal Bo right now we're going to focus on the big number the 2 and half million people coming through the Southwest World actually happens this the first type of Border encounter is called inadmissible and these can happen only at official cours of entry into the United States these encounters occurred 430,000 times at the Southwest border in 2023 the second type of encounter occurs with between Imports event and called an apprehension and there were 2 million of them at the Southwest border in 2023 now a very important fact to know if a person deemed inadmissible at a border crossing or apprehended between ports of Entry asks for Asylum immigration law requires we give them a hearing that's because of the 1967 United Nations protocol relating to the status of refugees and later the refugee Act of 1980 so the 22 million Encounters of the Southwest border of 2023 let's break them down 1.3 million are permitted to enter the United States and are lawfully released pending an appearance at immigration cour are they admitted into the country for humanitarian reasons those people will remain in the country potentially years as they wait for your hearing 765,000 of the individuals encountered in the Southwest border were repatriated or expelled in 20204 this includes expulsions under title 42 title 42 was a program where unauthorized immigrants encountering the Border were expelled as quickly as possible in the interest of US public health during covid-19 there were 200,000 explosions 2020 1.1 million in 2021 1.1 million in 2022 and 6,000 expulsions in the first half of 2023 before the official land the public health emergency in title 42 311,000 migrants were transferred to the supervision of the immigration Customs Enforcement or Isis it's known for further processing these people might been detained or released ice on average as 34,000 people in detention on any given day 118,000 migrants were unaccompanied miners who were transferred to the Department of Health and Human Services for care and custody determination that sums up to 22 million encounters with unauthorized immigrants that crossed the Southwest border in 2023 but it doesn't end there the Department of Homeland Security estimates that about 600,000 people in 2023 enter through the Southwest board without being intercepted by border patrol officers let's step back for a fact check on unauthorized immigration 25 million encounters with unauthorized immigrants in the Southwest border in 2023 of these encounters 1.3 million people were released in the country 430,000 more people were transferred to ice for Health and Human Services 765,000 people were repatriated or expell Plus in an estimated 600,000 who entered the country under that means 2.3 million unauthorized immigrants over the Southwest border into the country we do not know how many unauthorized immigrants may have left the country in for context encounter numbers at the Southwest border ranged between 400,000 and 600,000 per year from 2014 to 2018 reaching nearly a million in 2019 after dip in 2020 at the height of the pandemic encounter's quarter went up to 1.7 million in 2021 2.4 billion in 2022 and reached the 25 billion we discussed in 2023 and I'm going to admit to being confused unauthorized immigrant assessments have been flattened for a number of years at 11 million people while the number of people coming into the country has increased but our government needs to dig in and get all the required numbers to understand that since many of the unauthorized immigrants are seeking Asylum let's start by looking at the Asylum system looking at Asylum cases in 2022 about 500,000 people F while waiting for a court heing these migrants can get work permits from the Federal Government after their Asylum application has been in process for days here's the problem though this means many unauthorized immigrants have court cases years in the future at the end of 2023 there's a back blug of 2.5 million Immigration Court cases in that same year the courts handed down decision on 222,000 Asylum cases granting asylum in just 32,000 of those cases now there are a few other groups who are part of the unauthorized neor population to start we hear a lot in news about deferred action for childhood arrival which is known as doka under which 545,000 people are living here in the United States another big category what called temporary protected status for PPS unauthorized immigrants living here may seek relief from deportation if the state department deems their country unsafe to return to as of March 2024 864,000 immigrants were in the United States under TPS there are also people over their visas DHS on L security estimated 850,000 people to have overstay their visas in 2022 however there's no data on how long these people actually remain in the US finally let's look at authorized and unauthorized immigration in the context of total US population today America has 335 million people about 46 million je were born outside the United States this is the third year in a row where immigration has been the main driver of population grow which was 1.6 million people in total out of that 1.1 million came from immigration while only 500,000 came from more people being born than dying a consequence of our declining birth rate 98% of our Workforce almost one in five workers is forign four I've learned a lot I hope you have two people want to come to America it's been that way for hundreds of years now it's for you to decide is our system working what level of immigration do we want to have how should things be changed the more we know the better voters we can be just the facts you decide what you believe [Music] [Music] [Music] wow is really good thanks everyone I appreciate it great J I wish I could be as confident own as you are you [Music] this and [Music] [Music] [Music] I [Music] [Music] [Music] add [Music] I I [Music] [Music] mind got the juice my [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] all right welcome back to on base live in your Report app I am your host wooky bets and today we got the big dum Cal how you doing brother good are you I'm good my man thanks for uh for coming on the show before we talk about the big dum cuz I do want to know about that you're the first catcher we've had on on Basin so I'm later on I'm going to really pick your brain about that because I said short stop with the this after catch so we have a firsthand uh take or viewp point we'll talk about it later but first thing was we play a game called on base and off base you know in and out in or out all right first thing Tyreek Hill could beat Noah allows in a 100 meter race I'm in on that you're in why are you in honestly I don't know I know there's been some lately and uh you know I don't keep up with it too much but I like the confidence I don't know I watch that guy run the football field it's pretty amazing but I mean you know not professional I don't know I like to believe there's be some see you think it'll happen I think I think I think they going do it I feel like it's going to happen I mean I I I feel like it has to no all is he stay in the media you know he's done a great job staying in immedia and whatnot and now this Tyreek Hill you know he loves being immedia and doing challenges he's a very athletic person so he basketball football obviously all other sports but I like see yeah I like I like how they see it I don't like I said realistically I don't know if he beat him but I think be kind of cool I would like to see like Ellie running that you know and I think uh who else is fast quer burs Corin Corin Burns Ellie I don't know it's kind of funny watching obviously Corin Carol oh I say Burns yeah Corin Carol cor car I meant Corin Carol sorry um yeah Corin Burns probably not not at all no but watching those two run it's unbelievable because they're so different in size you know it's just different how they run but they're just obviously being catch you you're like I got to get rid of this ball there's not a great chance these guys out so so Ellie we're signing you up for 100 meter race so go ahead and start I mean you already have 70 bags so you've been practicing all year and uh just keep on doing what you're doing you got a race against Tyreek Hill and no allows make sure you put on for the MLB All right so next one toasted grasshoppers are the best ball park nextn not okay so for those of you who don't know so Seattle sells toasted grasshoppers as you can see there and I've tried them and I'm I'm out I'm out I think uh do you like them yeah uh I've had them before they're not as bad as you you know would think being a grasshopper they season them up and make them salty but yeah not the best uh there's you know nowadays you got you got any kind of food you from that stadiums especially like San Diego that that's still one of my favorite food yeah ballparks they got like you just go there you go there to e [Music] dinner everywhere you get whatever you want and it's our park they got every type of food you Asian Mexican Burgers dogs like whatever you want and grass and grass you know what I'm saying you not going okay so what about this a six inning minimum rule for starting pitchers would be good for baseball for you guys in particular yeah our starters are they' been great all years so they're ridiculous yeah I feel like I feel like I'm kind of in on that rule because it forces guys to go out and pitch you got to learn how pitch it's not just go out and throw as hard as you can for four Innings or five innings get to fiveever like you have to go to make it through six Innings you got to pitch and you know obviously if you don't then there's repercussions as far as I don't know what all the rules that are going to go in behind it but I don't know I'm kind of hit on it what do you think yeah I mean I'm all in on anything we do to get these guys you know get deeper in the games I think you know with all this you know new age stuff you know getting to that twice and then bouncing and giving it to you know four or five leers a game I think I think people want to see you know these great pitchers Go the Distance and people are missing you know guys going complete games or getting through lineups and um I feel like it's definely hurt the game so anything we could do to get these guys to keep going longer you know whatever it may be for it has to be that that new rle they're talking about losing the DH I believe I think it's like yeah yeah the DH goes then you you whatever it is I know I know they I mentioned I think kind of some drave kicks or something happens if I I don't know I don't know how it's all going to work but the main thing is I think it's a good thing I think so too I think you know you want to see like I said you want to see these horses go as long as they can and like you know it's it's good for the game you know I feel like we've lost a little bit of that you know sometimes you want to go to the ballpark and you want to see the good oldfashioned baseball pitcher going D you know get a standing not getting taken out of the game you know for for those other reasons so okay I got the LA the last one yeah
