Lions third year wide receiver Jameson Williams has finally Broken Out In the first game of the season in the Lions overtime victory over the Rams jamus Williams caught five balls for 121 yards and a big 52 yard receiving touchdown it was a phenomenal performance by him and that Lions offense I'm going to break down exactly how he broke out in this game Jameson Williams First Catch of the Day just simple quick now screen do him they put Aman ra St Brown in motion he's a physical guy get him out blocking play obviously doesn't go the way they wanted it to but that is the first completion Lions showing early in this game they want to get the ball to him not just downfield as he has a vertical threat but get the ball to him underneath and try to work in space clearly doesn't work out here Rams able to get to the ball quickly and make the play on this play the Rams are in cover one Robber which is a man coverage defensive play call they're a man coverage across the board one safety is going to play deep middle he's a post Defender and the other safety is going to roll down and that is where the term robber comes from he's going to roll down and try to rob a short in Breaking route underneath he also has priority in run defense so you're going to see this play action a key tenant of the Lions offense is this play action here we go show the play fake he comes way down if you're wondering why these linebackers appear to be playing Zone the linebacker on the defensive left is manned up on the fullback who's blocking so he's just going to sit he's not green dogging which is blitzing when his man is blocking he's going to sit and kind of do the same thing the robber is doing just he's going to watch the fullback make sure he doesn't leak out and he's going to try and take away any window short underneath Jared G does a phenomenal job here you're going to see the safety rolles down now he's sitting very shallow because of the play fake Jameson Williams are going to use him in space just a quick in cut over the middle of the field about 10 yards down the field he Curves in G gets it out on time and that Ball's just on the money and now you're letting J use his speed in the open field to rip off a big gain this is a perfect angle to see just how great this throw from GF is reading the window between the robber safety and the linebacker bang right on time right and stride and that's just an example of the r Lions using J's speed in the open field all right so they've used this tried to use his speed underneath a couple times now now it's time to do what everyone's really scared of get him isolated one-on-one to the outside hit a double move just a little stutter here breaks down travius white Falls for it and now he's got to grab him J Mo so much faster than him gol sees it lets it Go and now it's just use your speed get out there and run into the end zone Great play call Lions figur figured out how to use Jamon Williams in this game and Jameson Williams he's come full circle in his development in this third years of pro and you're seeing here they've they've used him every way possible so far this time lions run dagger to the top of the screen if you've watched this channel before you know how much I love dagger one of my favorite if not my favorite downfield passing concept it gets covered well by the Rams and you're going to see once again just using J's speed you don't always have to use it to stretch the field sometimes you just have to use it underneath let him get in space away from linebackers and now instead of these Corners trying to tackle him in the open field they're going to be a lot faster and maybe be able to run with him at least a little bit even though he is typically faster than them now he's running away from linebackers good luck catching him you're going to see here they run play action Rams get the pressure they need the dagger concept doesn't have enough time to develop but just dump it to J in the open space and get a massive chunk this time the Lions run a play that requires really good communication from his own defense the Rams don't get it here they've got Jameson Williams coming across on a shallow and we've got am manra St Brown coming up and running a Sit route just over the middle of the field and it requires these linebackers to be able to pass off these routes effectively with good communication they don't do it here and luckily for them able to come up and make a tackle but Jameson Williams had space right here you just got to put your foot in the ground and get up field he doesn't do it 37 makes a tackle this is still I mean Jameson Williams hasn't had a lot of reps over the years dealing with injuries he's healthy this year he's getting the playing time this year he'll learn to just cut up field and get yards there potentially score if you cut back and let me tell you as a Packers fan the lions are absolutely terrifying Jameson Williams has arrived and I believe he's going to be the final piece to an incredibly explosive passing game this season he's got the threat to break one at any time with his insane speed Aman rain Brown is a technician and a great route Runner and he's sure-handed tough physical he embodies what it means to be a Detroit wide receiver Sam leapor is a great receiving tight end David Montgomery has that got that downfield punch that you need at running back jir Gibbs incredibly athletic as well as being able to get downhill and run you over as well a deadly two-headed running back tandem a quarterback that's poised locked in all the time very accurate and knows how to pick apart every coverage an offensive coordinator that knows how to call a beautiful game offensively he knows how to stick to the run when it's working when to shake things up when to go to the pass play action he's got the whole package Dan Campbell is as good a leader as you can get in the NFL this Lions team is completely terrifying and as well as I predicted them to go in the preseason I fear I Gravely underestimated them look out for Detroit this season and I don't think this is a week one of a reaction they've got
