e e e e okay that's yeah I think so e oh yeah as from the chopper are we streaming now hey there are we streaming now correct uh that way I know if I should start talking Ty for that thank you thank you to everyone who is joining us on nbcla.com and all of our streaming platforms I'm Lana Marino alongside my pilot George marceno and we find ourselves uh this afternoon in Orange County at the chuko canyon area now uh this is a fire that is being called the airport fire it's putting up a lot of smoke here throughout Orange County and it's even visible from Los Angeles we could see it from downtown LA when we were on the way here in used Chopper 4 it's a fire that started at about 1:15 at the time it was about half an acre uh the Orange County Fire Department though knew that uh this had the potential to grow so they try to get as many resources out here as possible but unfortunately because of the high temperatures at the time and the very thick vegetation and then just the topography here in the area this fire quickly exploded and just about 3 hours later it is at 1,400 Acres now this is being called the airport fire as I said let me show you why there's a RC airport here it belongs to the Trabuco Flyers it's a private club that is uh very close to where the fire began likely just up the road here on uh trbo Canyon most likely somewhere in this area it looks like it may have been the initiation point of the fire at this point it's unclear how the fire started however and uh you can see though that uh this is trle Canyon Road so of course this is going to be shut down here through the area as this is where the fire department is staging the hand Crews coming in there and then uh making their way up the road to battle this fire from the ground but because of where this fire is burning which is essentially the forest here it's not an easy area to reach uh by vehicle or by foot so because of that you have a lot of aerial assets on this one there's fixed Wing tankers that are making fire and drops there's also multiple helicopters that are making water drops and the fire fire continues to burn uh to the north and away from home so that's significant here because initially uh this fire was uh even more concerning because it was making its way towards the communities that you to here for the most part it's ranchel Santa Margarita but areas like Robinson Ranch and trabo Highlands those were under and are under a mandatory evacuation order there's other areas that are under an evacuation warning those are areas like Rose Canyon Trabuco Creek Trabuco Canyon Trabuco Oaks Drive tropin Loop Cooks Corner and Dove Canyon uh so it's those areas that are under an evacuation warning so what that means is you're not being asked to leave right now but there's a possibility that that evacuation warning could turn into an EV a mandatory evacuation so you have to be ready to go the Orange County uh sheriff's department will make its way through the neighborhoods making announcements helping people out of the neighborhood uh prohibiting people from coming in so if you're not already here you're not be allowed in so uh you're going to be assisted out and if you are in those mandatory evacuation areas it's best to leave as soon as you can because you don't want to be in a situation where your life is put in danger because you failed to leave on time and then of course could also endanger the lives of the rescue Personnel who come to help again at this point it's about 1,400 Acres of very large smoke flam from what you can see here we're at 9,000 feet uh flying in newed tropper for and this plume is way above our heads so I'd put it at at least 1,200 feet high most likely more uh and just above that you can't see it but from a distance we could see that there is a cumul a cumul cumul li I can't see it I can't say it cumulonimbus cloud there we go sorry about that tongue twisted here um above that smoke plume and let me show you also I want to show you Lake Elenor uh that's over here just to give you reference uh of uh uh where we're flying so we're kind of working the North End of the fire um which is close to Santiago Peak I want to show you what that looks like so there's Santiago Peak and you notice that there's a lot of towers there those are very important Communications Towers so this is an area that the fire department is definitely going to want to protect okay copy that Tim thank you and we do have a hit here coming up on uh the NBC4 newscast app 4:00 if you're in La that's Channel 4 of course we'll continue to stream here on nbcla.com and all of our streaming platforms as well as we continue our coverage of the airport fire that has now burned about 1,400 acres here in trbo Canyon hey there Booth I got you and about to okay hey copy that to a haveen hey Booth we just got an update is 1800 18800 uh zero contained yes e C yeah for Happ [Music] it really exploded Annabelle it's been burning now for about 3 and a half hours when it first broke out it was only about half an acre but the Orange County Fire Department knew that this was going to turn into a major fire because of the conditions that temperatures were high the vegetation up here is very dry and then just the topography here in the tribut go Canyon area now this is called the airport fire because it started near an RC field it's unclear how it started though but that's how it got its name it started off of Trabuco Creek Road and uh as you said this is burning away from homes which is very excellent news of of course but here's an area of concern that I wanted to show you this is Santiago Peak you're going to notice that there's a lot of towers though there uh these are very important Communications towers and at this point the fire is burning in that general direction however of course there are fixed Wing tanker on the fix swing tankers that are making fire retardant drops so we can only assume that they're going to hit that with some fire retardant before the Flames get any closer but again at last count this fire has burned approximately 1,800 Acres it's a very smoky fire we could see the plume all the way from downtown Los Angeles as we were making our way over here so you're going to see this if you're anywhere in LA or orange counties but let me just quickly show you the homes these were the homes that are under either evacuation warnings or mandatory evacuations for the most part it's Rancho Santa Margarita but the evacuation order is for Robinson Ranch Trabuco Highland and the truko Highland apartment complex again the airport fire here in truko Canyon continues to burn and is currently at 1,800 acres that's latest from news chop report I'm Alana Maro back to you in the studio forun yes Robert because that's how they're going to have to fight this one uh this is an area you really can't get access to on foot or even on vehicles there's really no roads up there so at this point uh they're really dependent on uh that aerial assault there's fixed wi tankers that are making those fire and drops but then you also have uh water dropping helicopters that are finding water sources nearby like Lake Irvine and just doing a quick turn around on that coming to the lake getting some water and coming right back to dump it on the fire fortunately at this point it has proved very effective because even though the fire continues to grow again fortunately at this point moving away from homes and no structures have been damaged at this point F5 perfect back with you guys uh on the live stream thank you very much for continuing to watch us we're on nbcla.com t52 and all of our streaming platforms we were just doing a live hit there for our newscast uh the at last word 18800 Acres yeah so at last word 1,800 acres is what we're hearing and uh fortunately it is moving away from homes this started at about 115 off of a trbo creek but I want to show you how it got its name so that's the trbo fires Club it's a RC field and the fire didn't start at the airport obviously because there's no signs there that there's been a fire but it started just north of that and that's how it got its name how it started that's unclear but uh of course uh the biggest concern is going to be the homes I'll show you those they're just to the east it's really for the most part uh the areas of ranch of Santa Margarita um I want to mention that there's an evacu evacuation Center for uh residents uh who can't get back into their homes obviously uh and that's in Lake Forest let me get you the exact name of the facility it's the lake Forest sports complex and that is uh off of Vista Terrace in Lake Forest so it's not a very far drive uh again if you're one of the residents that got evacuated or you're trying to make your way back home and then you encounter um a checkpoint where you can't go any further then you're welcome to go to the lake forest Sports Complex of course they've got AC I know it's still hot out here uh so they've got a so that's it's a great spot to go if you have nowhere else uh to go for the time being at this point it's unclear when residents will be allowed uh but again uh the evacuation order was for Robinson Ranch chuko Highlands ho8 and trabo Highlands apartment complex but the evacuation warning that encompasses more areas there's Rose Canyon there's trbo Creek Trabuco Canyon trbo Oaks uh drive that is and uh Joplin Loop Cooks Corner and uh duve Canyon so all of those areas are under an evacuation warning which means it's just ready get set go be ready to leave at any point should that become uh a mandatory evacuation at this point if the conditions don't change from where we're at if the Winds Don't shift those areas are all going to be fine but the problem is as the night goes on the winds will shift and you have the possibility that this fire is basically going to reverse course on itself it may go back towards the South that does happen from time to time we've covered fires where that does occur so you even even though you see the the flames and the smokes now moving away from your home you want to be ready for anything so have your go B back ready have uh everything you need for your kids and your pets uh ready to go uh should you be forced to evacuate again this fire burning in truco Canyon now at about 1,800 acres for now real quickly I'm just going to do a um a report for our sister station tundo uh we're going to be on at five with them as well but I just want to give our viewers in Spanish a
