International playing career was highlighted by gold medal performances in the 1984 Olympics the 1983 Pan-American games and the 1986 Goodwill games where she led each team in scoring with someone who holds so much Sway in the WNBA did you know she never suited up in the WNBA as the professional League was not around when Miller graduated from USC not until 1996 that the WNBA was founded she likely would have played in the league if not for knee injuries that ended her career abruptly that wasn't the end for Miller as she dusted her boots off and took up the John wooden's hat of being a head coach at USC the Phoenix Mercury of the WNBA and Langston she left the coaching Spotlight to become a television reporter and analyst working with TNT for 17 years before returning to coaching Miller's influence on women's basketball extends Beyond her own achievements she paved the way for future generations of female basketball players like Indiana fever's Rising Star Caitlyn Clark I think obviously Cheryl she's like one of the pioneers of our game and just an awesome individual um like her personality just radiates like being around her it just makes you smile like she's just such a cool human um so for her to get to coach us like super exciting for me I was super excited when I heard that news like just a a great opportunity uh to be around somebody that's given so much to this game and to get get to enjoy this my first experience with her honestly another supporter who gives Cheryl her flowers for being a significant influence on his career is Reggie Miller Miller's younger brother also a Hall of Fame basketball player the whiff of Miller's ties with the Indiana fevers has already created a buzz among the women's basketball league with her record as a game changer and nurture of young talents the rookie team is expected to be on a surge for dominance after its share of recent struggles in the WNBA with Miller Al Helm her perception and author in the game can be used as a driving force to address the bias standard against Caitlyn Clark one of the fast rising household names on the lips of every American in July the duo met during the WNBA allstar game where the veteran raved about Caitlyn Clark's game complimenting her ability to get open and pass the ball Kaitlin's got great handles the one thing I don't think people really appreciated about that young lady's game she could pass the she didn't stop there as we press further to address the Rivalry between Indiana Fever Caitlyn Clark and Chicago Sky Angel Reese Miller said I've been able to step back and watch from afar I love and appreciate uh the Rivalry I love what they've done for the women's game from a collegate level to now and um it's working and it was only a matter of time and great narratives great story lines but now the bottom line comes down to one thing it's about basketball and it's about wins and both these young ladies and their teams people don't want to face them down the stretch because now it's starting to click it's clicking in Chicago and it's starting to click in Indiana very diplomatic right but don't be comfy the women's Hoops Trailblazer alter SPO fire and brimstone in her bit to address issues of gender inequality in the sport and Advocates passionately for opening doors in women's basketball and Beyond during the pregame interview WNBA Allstar match Miller ripped the League's record new broadcast rights package and the negotiators who put it together she called for a number four times higher than the reported $2.2 billion over 11 years that the WNBA reportedly will receive starting in 2025 I'm not great with numbers low ball what why do you say that it's a low ball over not enough not even close now I'm not trying to inflate it a whole lot but a two's nice and eight would be better that's what I'm talking about because they know they know and we certainly have come a long way and I'm not about gouging but it it's a long time overdue and we're going to continue to get better and better with a Titan like Cheryl Miller the WNBA should be excited at the prospective rapid development of women's facilities and more transparency in the League's leadership not to forget get the biggest gainers the Indiana Fever their fans were thrilled to see their three old Stars Caitlyn Clark Aria Boston and Kelsey Mitchell get the opportunity to be coached by Miller Miller as well found the flame with her uplifting words Indiana has a very very bright future it's one thing to be young and they're learning how to play the game and they're learning U about their mistakes and how to correct them uh faster and so they're making those those game uh in-game and out of game um adjustments the only thing I see that's going to happen the older they get is is how to stop the run sometimes and and how to change you know uh the momentum during games but this is not a team people want to play because not only are they getting better but they're confident and they they show no fear with the current head coach Christy Sid's recent disappointment we shouldn't be surprised to see a familiar face on the sideline next season check out our other
