at Riverside Polly High School where she once scored 105 points in a game and led her program to a 4-year record of 132 to4 that includes included an 84 game winning streak in four straight Tif championships she became the first high school player male or female to be named a parade All-American four straight years she was named the National High School scholar athlete of the year in 1981 and broke State records for points scored in a single season and in a career she continued that success at USC where she let the Trojans to a 112 to 20 overall record over four seasons and back-to-back champion ships in 1983 and 1984 when she was named the NCAA tournament MVP both times she was selected as the N Smith player of the year three times and earned the Wade trophy once she in 1995 and USC retired her number 31 Jersey in November of 2006 in 2018 was inducted into the Pack 12 conferences Hall of Honor in a group that included women for the first time Miller's International playing career was highlighted by gold medal performances in the 1984 Olympics the 1983 Pan-American games and the 1986 Goodwill games where she led each team in scoring with someone who holds so much Sway in the WNBA did you know she never suited up in the WNBA as the professional League was not around when Miller graduated from USC not until 1996 that the WNBA was founded she likely would have played in the league if not for knee injuries that ended her career abruptly that wasn't the end for Miller as she dusted her boots off and took up the John wooden's hat of being a head coach at USC the Phoenix Mercury of the WNBA and Langston she left the coaching Spotlight to become a television reporter and analyst working with TNT for 17 years before returning to coaching think obviously Cheryl she's like one of the pioneers of our game and just an awesome individual um like her personality just radiates like being around her it just makes you smile like she's just such a cool human um so for her to get to coach us like super exciting for me I was super excited when I heard that news like just a a great opportunity uh to be around somebody that's given so much to this game and to get get to enjoy this my first experience with her honestly another supporter who gives Cheryl her flowers for being a significant influence on his career is Reggie Miller Miller's younger brother also a Hall of Fame basketball player the whiff of Miller's ties with the Indiana fevers has already created a buzz among the women's basketball league with her record as a game lot but a two's nice and eight would be better that's what I'm talking about because they know they know and we certainly have come a long way and I'm not about gouging but it it's a long time overdue and we're going to continue to get better and better with a Titan like Cheryl Miller the WNBA should be excited at the prospective rapid development of women's facilities and more transparency in the
