where things stand the Lakers had a pretty tame off season by their standards they hired JJ reck as their new coach D'Angelo Russell opted in for next season then they drafted Dalton connect and bronny James and brought LeBron back into the fold in early July so Dave coming to you first because you've spent a little time around the Lakers LeBron was just named MVP at the Olympics Anthony Davis looked fantastic in Paris has the success of this changed the way the Lakers are approaching this season Andre it hasn't this was not news to the Lakers even though JJ reic and Rob pinka made the journey across the Atlantic to be there for the metal round games in Paris to see their players up close that's what they expect them to do and they are still looking as this group as being 10 months or so removed from being in the Western Conference finals and the patriarch of the Lakers franchise the late Dr Jerry bus always had the philosophy is if he viewed the Lakers as being a western conference finalist Contender then he would go into the subsequent season willing to push draft capital and take on salary to try to get them a little bit of an edge and there's still people within the organization that view business that same way and so this Lakers group even though they lost in the first round to the Nuggets that core got to the West Conference Finals the Lakers management knows that with the right tweaking they can get them back to that level this year okay so sticking to some old school philosophy some might say perk are the Lakers doing enough to capitalize on the greatness we're still seeing from LeBron especially after this summer well they're trying and like my grandma always used to say God bless their heart baby they don't know no better because look at the end of the day it comes down to this all right we just watched LeBron James and Anthony Davis they look fantastic in the Olympics Anthony Davis the way he anchored that defense like he's ready to come back okay and and and again have finish up where he left off from last season but drafting dalson connect and bronny James that's not enough hiring JJ reck the firing of Darvin ham that's not enough right Rob pinka is on the clock when you look at the rest of the Western Conference Dallas got better and they the team that actually went to the finals right we're watching Minnesota make moves they're going to come back stronger the nuggets with joic and their Core group is going to come back stronger again what are the Lakers going to do to make sure they put the necessary pieces around Anthony Davis and LeBron James can they make it into the postseason absolutely but let's be real they're not making it to the Western Conference Finals with this roster they have to upgrade and Rob pinka got to make sure he's on his P P's and qes especially after watching Anthony Davis and LeBron James this Sumer yeah you talk about pieces and as great as these Superstars are LeBron step ad they still need pieces around them we talked about LeBron's team let's take a look at what Stephen Curry's Warriors have done this off season Klay Thompson the superstar in the bay ended his run with the Warriors after 13 seasons and four NBA titles now he heads to Dallas in hopes of getting that organization over the top then the Warriors waved Chris Paul after his lone season in the bay Paul led the team with nearly seven dimes per game and is now in San Antonio with the Spurs the Warriors did bring in some new additions NBA vets buddy hail DeAnthony Melton and Kyle Anderson will be a part of the rotation Steph Curry like LeBron still capable of winning at the highest level so perk I'll ask you the same question we just had with the Lakers have the Warriors done enough to build around Steph Curry hell no and look the moves that they made this off season they were popular but they wasn't powerful and I think right now if you look in the direction of Warriors are going in they have a lot of trust in their Player Development obviously looking at Pinsky uh with kaminga and getting those guys better you know make you know giving those guys more of a a more of a role on this team but you still have Steph Curry a guy that wants to win a guy that every single season he wants to go out and try to win a championship you can see the joy that he played with in the Olympics when he you know for us winning the gold medal it was all over his face the emotions we haven't seen that out of Steph Curry since they won their last championship and that's going on what two years now that's over two years now so when I'm looking at the Warriors yes you should be building for the future but at the same time you got to keep in mind and make step Steph Curry why you have him your top priority so perk the irony of this will be both the Lakers and the Warriors will be among the teams at the trade deadline probably going after the same type of players the impact players that can make a difference down the stretch heading into the playoffs it'll come down to who has the better package they can offer obviously the warriors were preparing a package to try to pry away um Lori Markin in from the Utah Jazz that didn't happen so they still have a a package but guess what there's be another team who probably be number one in the west this year OKC that has a ton of draft picks and capital and young talent that they'd be able to offer to beat any trade that maybe the Warriors and Lakers are going after but neither of these teams right now are there I just think they have the infrastructure to get into the conversation and we'll have to see what you mentioned obviously Rob pinka needs to mind his p's and q's he's on the clock that applies to Mike dunlevy as well you know what perk David as you just mentioned you know these teams might be going after some of the same players package aside and money aside perk if you're a player you're looking at the warriors with Steph Curry and you're looking at the Lakers with LeBron which team would you want to play on to be honest I mean the iand is the Lakers because Anthony Davis right I mean yes you know what Steph Curry is going to bring to T to the table and yes you know what LeBron James are going to do we're talking about all time great but Anthony Davis is is in the middle of his prime Anthony Davis last year had arguably the best season of his career making all NBA and uh I believe it was what First Team all defense and when you have a guy like Anthony Davis and that's your deciding factor a guy that could you know defend all positions a guy offensively who's one of the most skilled power forwards that's what makes the Lakers so much more attractive than the Golden State Warriors especially with them losing clay time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady met with LeBron James and the rest of Team USA at a star study party in Paris to celebrate the 50th anniversary of USA Basketball afterwards Brady weighed in on how he would fill out an NFL roster with players from the gold medal men's Squad let's see what he had to say Joel an a tight end then I got LeBron a receiver cuz I think I can utilize him better he's got more downfield speed I need taken my quarterback ants my running back and I need one more receiver who do we like dead taking a deep look I've seen his skill you go vertical he's got speed work over the middle all right perk not that I'm asking you to critique Brady's eye for football talent because we know he's the goat over there but you know I'm going to ask any issues with tb1 12's lineup choices knowing the Hooper and who they are you know what I'm surprised I'm surprised about Devin Booker being in there I think I would take him out and probably put in Drew holiday I think Drew holiday is like Jack of all trades could pretty much play any position offensively especially at the receiver in the slot so that's the only thing I would critique about the great Tom Brady LZ Tom I mean I know football contact sport you might have taken won too many hits to the head in your time in the NFL and you just forgot that Steph Curry was on the USA roster and he is the NBA equivalent of Patrick Mahomes he is your quarterback Stephen Wardell Curry is your Quarterback Tom come on man I don't I just think LeBron like I know he's big but don't you think LeBron could get the ball as a running back and just bulldoze people I just he could block for people LeBron could catch passes I don't know I think maybe I'd have LeBron games that we are looking the most forward word to Dave I'm going to go to you tomorrow when we announce that schedule what are you looking for first when it comes to matchups when LeBron and the Lakers are pled into a dome personally because I want to see what it's like to actually cover a game there it it's the going to be the best basketball arena in the entire world and I want to see if the Clipper fans make the Trek to Englewood and Steve balmer's Grand experience to experiment to create this great home environment actually occurs or if just be like we've always seen when the Lakers play in LA even if it's a Clippers home game that everybody's cheering for LeBron and the Lakers I'm going go to the east coast I'mma I'm I'm going go to the east coast the defending champs the Boston Celtics against the Knicks the Knicks talked about all off season long how they made moves to match up with the Boston Celtics that's why they went out and got Mel Bridges I need to see what Julius Randall is looking like after he missed the remaining of the second half of last season and how Mel bridg is going to fit OG and a noi coming back healthy that's the measuring stick for the Knicks and I'm I'm looking forward to seeing my boy big body Bronson you know it's I'm not going to let this slide you all both pick the home teams but that's okay I'm going to go with Dallas at Boston I want to see Kyrie Luca and clay in Boston especially if Kyrie can get over that hump when it comes to playing in Boston so a rematch of the NBA Finals we'll get into all of that [Music] [Applause] [Music] is
