Sherrone Moore and Michigan knew this was coming

if I'm the University of Michigan football this is kind of what I want right I I think the way to look at this is Chiron Moore Donovan Edwards none of those folks are shying away from the task of repeating as defending national champions like they said so much at the Big 10 media days when Chiron Moore was asked about it's like look your goal at Michigan should be to win it all every single year regardless of who the head coach is and what the program is made up of given if you recruited well given that you're coached well now they're replacing 17 of 22 starters but most of us believe that they have the depth to begin the season as a top 10 team at least in the preseason and we start playing football games all of that's going to change particularly for Michigan when they play Texas I think we're going to find out which one of those programs feels like the one that's going to make the college football playoff could be both of them right it could be both of them depending on how that game goes and certainly how the rest of the season goes but I am very interested to find out what kind of a roar Shack test this this shows because it's interesting to me that after we learned of Connor stallions Michigan sign stealing Scandal we were consumed by it right the idea that you would cheat and record signals of future opponents in case you might play them feels like something out of an Ian Fleming novel however he got caught they got caught suspended Jim Harbaugh for three games Big 10 play in November after being suspended for three games uh uh for recruiting violations well I should say self-imposed but now it kind of gets more complicated because the NCAA had already said that they're going to work at this one pretty hard because they didn't like the way that this went down with Jim Harbaugh with the recruiting violations Chiron Moore also implicated and served a one game suspension in that and now we're talking about what punishment may come down for the University of Michigan regarding this particular Scandal and regarding how they have interacted with the NCAA that's news right there's no real opinion about any of that it's expected it's part of the course but in as far as what the and as far as what we can expect to happen at Michigan I mean look uh perhaps we're looking at penalties for Chiron Moore and many of the staff but most of that staff is not really there you know darar Robinson implicated in this for example he ain't there no more you're looking at Jim Harbaugh who took half the staff to coach the Los Angeles Chargers there's only so much you can do right but I I think that most people want to see something done particularly if you played against Michigan the last three years and you suspect that you were victim to some of this cheating I also think that it's moot going into 2024 because we're all using helmet to headset technology now like that's the thing that I think is going to really start to make a lot more sense to people as we start playing games you get to see folks aren't really needing to send in signals anymore you can can speak into the headset as a matter of fact covering the UFL this year one of the cool things was the the play caller could speak to eight players on the damn offense or defense in addition to the quarterback or the safety or linebacker whoever's got the Green Dot I think all of that is going to play itself out and we're really going to get back to what has made Michigan Michigan the last three years because there have been all sorts of reasons to doubt that staff right I I understand that there are folks that believe I feel some kind of way about Jim Harbaugh or his staff and and I don't what I believe is that no man has been able to shuffle his staff as much as he has outside of Nick sabbin and still achieve the same kind of results I thought it was kind of interesting that we went from Josh gtis to Matt gates to Chiron Moore as offense play callers and we went from Mike McDonald to uh Jesse mentor and now we're going to to wink Martell but before that Don Brown look it really does matter who that head coach is but we also got to see that the culture that Jim Harbaugh put in place for his players was Second To None because those players were all pulling the same direction it didn't matter to them so much that they didn't have their coaches on the sideline they missed them right everybody would miss them but that that impact their play on the football field no And as far as I know Michigan is going to be playing regular season football games and all of the players are going to be playing or eligible to play in that game we're talking about people on the side lines we're talking about people that don't tackle we're talking about people that don't pass we're talking about people that don't catch we're talking about people that don't run the ball we talking about people that don't actually have to throw their nose in at the line of scrimmage they're calling plays they're giving shall we say strenuous advice right but for the most part not for the most part absolutely players play players got to make plays last three years they've had players who make plays Blake koram Assan H Haskins JJ McCarthy even Kade mcnamer Colston Loveland I can keep going down the line here Mason Graham Kenneth Grant Rod Moore Mike sand still they got guys right Junior Coulson that's the point to to take on this if you are a Michigan fan or really if you're a big 10 fan you're not playing against Chiron Moore you're not playing against Michigan's coaching staff you're playing against those football players on the field you're playing against the guy that's wearing seven in the backfield seven and a half yard deep looking to make a name for himself and get drafted well he Donan Edwards has made an name for himself looking to get draft in the first round with a stellar performance this season because that's the thing I want to see most from Donovan Edwards in 2024 I want to see production I didn't see a whole lot of production in the regular season I saw production in the postseason but that's where that guy shines once you get to Ohio State you're gon to get the best version of Donan Edwards there is to get I want to see him do that for the entire season and perhaps end up right there at uh the Heisman Ceremony in December when we're handing out the trophy for the most valuable player in our sport he's got that sort of talent I want to see Alex orgy step up and be the guy that his talent says that he can beat the same way that we saw it with JJ McCarthy in winning time JJ McCarthy showed up full stop JJ McCarthy knew who he was in winning time I want to see that from Alex orgy I would love to see what win Martell's defense looks like when he's running it because the guys that were running before learned it from him and imp implemented it my goodness into what they do and now you got the architect himself calling the plays I can't wait to see what Kurt Campbell does as a play caller I want to see what it looks like for shiron more to be walking up and down the sideline as much as we get to see shiron Mo walking up and down the sideline but I'm I'm done doubting the players over there that's the point here and I think you should be too no matter what news comes out of this and it will be news and it will have an effect and we will talk about it uh because that's what we do in the sport we're as interested in play on the field as we are the stuff going on off of it and if you are a buckeye fan for instance you feel some kind of way about whatever punishment may or may not come down in the University of Michigan because you were always going to feel that kind of way about whatever is going to happen in Michigan the one thing I can be sure of is that the Buckeye fans are going to feel this way fulltime about Michigan Michigan fans going to feel this way fulltime about Buckeye fans but that's not really what we're talking about here we're talking about protecting the Integrity of the sport it's one of the reasons why gambling is kind of difficult to wrap our arms around because it seems to be the kind of thing that has led to some bad decisions being made for the sake of competition and integrity we have to really police it hard the same thing is true of sign stealing the way that Conor stallion was doing it I don't think it's going to help anymore that there's a Untold documentary around Conor stallion coming out on Netflix it's gonna blow this thing up even more but I'm not going to be an alarmist about this I'm not going to be uh overly judgmental about this because frankly it's already been done there's no real new opinion about what happened with Michigan and there's no real new opinion about what is going to happen with Michigan until we start playing football games then we could talk about did this have an effect what kind of effect did it have but we also have evidence to show it didn't have an effect on the football last year it simply did not we saw Jim Harbaugh coach just nine football games and his program went 15 and0 we saw Chiron Moore Miss games as a play caller did not affect the play on the football field as long as those dudes get to coach those guys up during the uh intervening times between Saturdays and as long as those dudes stay healthy there's every reason to believe that Michigan from last year has the chance to prove that they are a fluke and that you look at the last three years since the plague year they have been dominant let's see if Michigan can Ascend to the territory that we slotted for Georgia that we used to slot for Alabama and then let's reflect on this and see how uh what if anything has come of it I'm fascinated by it because I'm fascinated by what other people have to say so tell me what you think about what may or may not happen to Michigan going into this regular season and we'll pick it up from there once we learn more about what Michigan football is going to do in 2024
