BYU 2024 Football Schedule Released | Big 12 | Holy War | Rivalry Week

the Big 12 has just released its 2024 football schedule and for BYU for the most part it looks pretty good most of the boxes are checked except that there is one glaring issue in it so let's take a closer look welcome to Saturday's Warrior I'm Trevor and today we are taking a look at Buu's 2024 football schedule that was just released by before we do I got to apologize I am just getting over cold something uh went through our whole family it hit us hard and uh we just pulling out of it so excuse me if I sound a little bit sick but this was such big news that I felt like we needed to record anyway so as we mentioned uh for the most part the the schedule I think looks pretty good it's more or less I think what we could anticipate except there is a glaring issue with it and it has to do with rivalry week so let's take a closer look at what BYU posted on their socials all right so we start off with the outof conference schedule and this was to be expected we already knew that as lousy as it is we've got two away games against SMU and Wyoming and SMU will technically be P5 it'll be their first year probably have a tough run of it but certainly not a pushover and then we saw what Wyoming did last year very quality team especially with Texas Tech who was a a very capable team went in and got surprise there to start the season so we don't want that to happen but we knew this was on the table so it's what comes after then we have um Kansas State coming so after that uh relatively um tough outof conference scheduled to begin with with two away games then we come home which is great but then we're taking on Kansas state so um I mean this they'll OB I think um probably be one of the favorites to win the conference next year and so that will be a tough one early on followed by an away trip to Baylor and so the uh the by week comes after our fifth uh our fifth game against Baylor um which isn't ideal I think with having two bye it would have been great to split up the season into fours um but having it after five isn't terrible it's not the the worst there's other teams that have like Iowa State it looks like has a buy after only two weeks and so that's certainly not the split you want to see so it's not terrible but to have three away games in that first five game stretch uh before the bye and one of those homes is Kansas state is certainly going to be a tough start to the season uh we have the tuneup game to to start up uh to start it off with but then after that uh it doesn't really get any easier fortunately though having that by week before Arizona comes to town uh this has been a fun game in recent years fortunately BYU has come out on top but Arizona is going to be another conference favorite and so um you know this would will be a another tough game so it'll be nice to have that buy uh prior to Arizona coming I that is definitely a bright spot in it and what's interesting is that bye comes during conference weekend so instead of sticking BYU on a Thursday or Friday night uh to put the big 12 in the um you know during the week they decided to have let BYU have the whole week off so um we'll see if that is um for the best but like I said I think that's uh compared to where some of the teams are getting by weeks um not terrible placement after that we have Oklahoma State coming to Provo so that's a a two home game stretch right there which is nice especially because it's going to be against two tougher opponents and Oklahoma state will be coming off of a bye so they'll have a little bit of rest coming into that game whereas we will have just um played one of the top will likely be one of the top teams in the conference and then after facing those two teams at home go all the way to Orlando to play UCF um fortunately there is a buy coming after that uh but it would have been nice to have maybe a buy beforehand to give a little extra travel time but at least we'll have the time on the back end to get back and recover uh for what will be BYU's big rivalry game on the weekend of November 9th which when I was first looking at this I thought that I'd accident skipped too far and gone to the end because surely the Big 12 really looking to have some of those more traditional rivalries the best rivalry now in the conference um is going to be played on rivalry weekend right but uh for some reason they stuck BYU and Utah there at the beginning of November both teams will be coming off of by weeks and um before they face off and I don't know this is a real head scratcher for me obviously I'm still excited that BYU Utah is back to being an in-conference game where it should be but why would they not put it on rivalry weekend are they worried that it won't get the play going up against some of these other conferences and some of these other rivalries that weekend that it's too saturated so they're trying to pick another weekend where it can get more publicity that's all I could think of but for me that is a major major Miss and I'll have to look at um there's not many of the protected rivalries um in the conference but I wonder if uh yeah it looks like uh no um I was going to say maybe Kansas Kansas State were that weekend as well I don't know so uh the Arizona schools when do they uh play each other it looks like they play other on the that's pretty small but anyway on the last weekend anyway I've digressed so very confusing very heads scratching not a fan of that but let's go on and take a look so we had uh the the by week uh after three games and then end the the four game stretch uh which is what how I was thinking having uh four game stretches here um so we go to Utah fortunately not traveling far and then we come back home to have Kansas and then we go to Arizona State and end the season on on a as a with a home game against Houston so again very confused at the uh decision to not have Utah there at that at that last uh game of the week during rivalry weekend but overall I think it's pretty good our by- weeks are pretty well spaced out give a we don't we're not we don't have any stretch uh any um away game stretch longer than two games and that's just at the beginning of the season with the two uh outof conference games and we get um mostly alternating away in a home uh we do have two homes games in the middle of the season so I think overall it's split up pretty well uh especially in terms of competition and the teams will be facing uh this is looks like it could be somewhat of a lighter stretch to end the season uh there but it's really hard to say I don't think there's going to be any weeks off in uh This Big 12 Conference all right so what do you make of BYU's 2024 football schedule and is the the Utah game not being on rivalry weekend as big a deal for you as it is for me um are what else did you see from the schedule that you really like that you think bodess well for BYU uh what other things that I missed uh did you see
