Surprising turn in the trial of Hunter Biden, the president's son aiming to avoid trial by planning on pleading guilty under what's called the Alford plea. This is in connection to his tax charges, prose prosecutors saying they want to make it crystal clear. The US opposes this deal. This all happened, right? As jury selection was set to begin, here's A B C's Oren Shaw with the story this morning, a shocking turn of events at the start of the Hunter Biden tax trial. His lawyer stating he is willing to enter an open plea in which he admits guilt to avoid a lengthy trial. Attorney Abby Lowell, adding that Mr Biden is preparing to proceed today and finish this. Hunter Biden's lawyer informing the court that he intends to plead guilty to nine federal tax related charges including three felony charges in failure to pay 1.4 million to the federal government between 2016 and 2020. The exact details of that proposed plea remain unclear. Biden is also accused of making millions from foreign organizations and spending millions of dollars on an extravagant lifestyle. At the same time, he chose not to pay his taxes, a confidant that ABC news has identified as a Biden. Attorney Morris eventually paid his back taxes in 2020. Hunter's attorney saying the allegations against him were a form of character assassination. In a separate case, Hunter Biden was convicted earlier this summer on three felony gun charges. In that case, prosecutors said he knowingly lied about buying a gun in 2018 on a federal form which asked if he was an unlawful user of or addicted to drugs sentencing for that case has not taken place yet.
