Intro former England manager Sven yuran Ericson has revealed he's been diagnosed with terminal cancer and has a year at most to live the 75-year-old told a Swedish radio station he'd been given the shock news after collapsing on a 5K run between 2001 and 2006 Erikson guided the so-called golden generation of England Stars including David Beckham Steven Gerard and Frank Lampard and I'm delighted to say Sven joins us now thank you very much indeed for joining us I How he found out he had cancer know this is tricky and difficult to talk about how did you find out about your diagnosis well I got DIY and I fall to the ground and my children took me to the hospital and they did a lot of examines and4 hours later I was diagnosed with with cancer so that's why that's how it happened and I felt totally well it came came like a very very very big His diagnosis surprise devastating news and not only did you get the diagnosis that you have cancer but that your cancer Sven is terminal yeah you can't operate it and uh you can take me medicine to try to stop it to run too fast and that's what I'm doing but um sooner or later it will happen and let's hope later than sooner and can I just ask um what type of cancer do you have and at what stage was it when you found out about that diagnosis uh it has gone on for a while they told me but they can't say exactly how long time but uh it has been spread to other organ also so it's um what you say Eng pancreas cancer I have so so the primary was pancreatic and then as you say it has spread away from the pancreas when you were diagnosed how how did you feel at that point well you know when you get a message like that and uh it's like a shock because I was fully fit I think rather fit as well and training so it came like from nowhere so of course it's uh you feel you feel very bad and you you are like a shock when you got it and I think that's normal but you have to fight against it and that's what I'm trying to do at least that that's the the difficulty the challenge with pancreatic cancer isn't it San that it is silent until quite His family reaction late as you say you were fit you you were out for a run until you collapse and that means because of the late diagnosis survival rates are very poor we talked about how you're responding to this it was your children who took you for those tests how have your family dealt with this news no we have to deal with it because the alternative is to to uh give up and sitting alone at home and so the whole family the children they they grown up of course and one live in Spain one in Stockholm so they came in as often as they can and we talk every day and uh it's in the beginning it was very difficult to accept it but once you accept it life goes on life has to war and that life goes on for as long as possible for you Asen it thank you it does indeed and as you say you have to live life for every single moment thank you so much for talking to us this morning thank you
