Starkville uh a load of new players on the roster for the Mississippi State Bulldogs uh in what will be kind of a rebuilding they've been through a lot in this program losing Mike Leech uh Zack Arnett takes over last year they let him go at the end of the year they go to a offensive mind of Jeff leby as he was the OC uh at Oklahoma uh the last couple of Seasons but um should be an interesting year for the Bulldogs so we'll go bold predictions three of them for the Mississippi State Bulldogs Chris I'll let you go first what is our first bold prediction yeah and this is the tough one we'll elaborate on some reasons why later but you're right no program has probably been through more adversity than than Mississippi State over the last three years I mean maybe say Vanderbilt but those are we're kind of comparing apples and oranges is to how that happened but I'll give you this one I'll say Mississippi State sweeps the non-conference portion of its schedule and maybe that's not super bold I mean Eastern kenty's on there that's in Starkville Toledo's there that is in Starkville I would say state is probably I don't know if there's a line maybe a 23-point favorite over Eastern Kentucky and and probably less than a touchdown over Toledo which is a decent ma team in between a road trip to Arizona State which is got issues in its own right that game should be almost a toss up and then you've got UMass at the end that that should be one that state will have played some football under its new system and I would think would win so I don't know how bold it is but you and I had some issues coming up with with three of four state and that was one like okay you know winning four games and sweeping the nonconference portion of your schedule given where state is won't be easy but I think it's manageable so we'll ride with that yeah and I think that I mean the Arizona State game yes they're not in in in great shape out there themselves but um I think that'll be a tough that's it's tough to go out there and they went to Arizona in 2022 were able to get the win and so yeah they'll be looking to go in Arizona State I think that'll be a tough game but I think definitely a winnable game uh for Mississippi State and then you think about you get four non-conference wins you just need two more to get to a bowl game find a couple of more wins in there uh in the SEC slate and hey you're you're all right so um you're going to a bowl game and so hey and Chase on on that um hear me out okay now I think it's going to be tough to pull this off but three of those games Eastern Kentucky at Arizona State Toledo first three games of the Season guess what's next Florida in Starkville now Florida's going to be a favorite in that game but you built some confidence you're going to have fans in the stands it is an 11 clock kickoff sometimes if you're a road team that's tough oh by the way also time change Florida uh so hey if if you if I'm right that means they get the first three that could be a much needed confidence boost going into that Florida game if anytime you start the season three and0 I mean that that's definitely a boost heading into conference play and against a team like Florida you get them coming into to your home stadium hey that's that's uh I think that's a really good best case scenario there for Mississippi State to be able to start out 3 and 0 maybe 4-0 with with Florida coming in so yeah that's a that was a good bold prediction Chris uh all right here we go bold prediction number two and for that to happen they need their quarterback Blake shaper to have a good year so My bold prediction is Blake shapen he transferred in uh this year he throws for 3,000 yards uh now a season ago uh he transferred in from Baylor he had uh a little over 2100 yards last year at Baylor and so this year my prediction my bold prediction he throws for 3,000 yards and you look at the receiving core that he has and I think a a great addition is Kelly aari from utup uh he transferred in I think he's going he uh had a little over a thousand yards last year with utup catching the football you got Kevin Coleman as well and um s tayori who transferred from Arkansas State and it tight end I think he's going to get a number of catches as well so uh the surrounding cast will will definitely help him but my bold prediction Blake shap and throws for 3,000 yards yeah and you also left out Tren Hudson the receiver transfer from New Mexico State who caught 35 balls for 551 yards and 10 scores so I think when you look at State the strength of this team is obviously what it's got in the receiving and tight end room much of which was brought in through the portal and if you want to go a little further sometimes game Flow is going to be important in this after that start to the season they've got some games at Texas at Georgia um at Tennessee Missouri at Old Miss they're going to be double figure up underdogs in some of those games and you look down and their backups are two freshman I think at quarterback Chris Parson and Michael Van Beren so I could see Blake shapen sticking in to to try to make some of these games a little more even and being able to rack up some yards that way so I think between the combination of what he got in terms of helping the portal and game Flow you you might be on to something yeah so uh we'll see what Blake shaping could do and a Jeff Levy offense uh there at Mississippi State all right our third bold prediction Chris what you got well this is a defense that really has got a lot of new names they're either guys that were backups a year ago or their transfers who are going to be thrust into big roles but the one guy on this defense whose name you hear when you get all SEC talk that pops up that's Damonte Russell and last year he had six tackles for loss he's expected to lead that defense out of his defensive end spot I think it's not unreasonable to say he could finish as a top 10 defender in the league and in tackles for loss again he had six a year ago that was only in 10 games and eight starts so he missed some time give Damonte Russell a fully healthy year I think that kid could be top 10 in the league and stops for loss by the end of the season yeah I think that's a great bold prediction I mean we saw what he was able to do last year and he's the guy this year you know he's the guy from Mississippi State there's a lot of new faces on this defense um it's it's going to take some time I feel like for them to uh to to kind of Jael and get rolling but uh I like Damonte Russell I like that uh prediction Chris so uh we'll see what uh he can do there uh if he can finish top 10 in tackles for loss there in the SEC we'll have you covered all things Mississippi State and
