[Music] [Music] welcome back this past weekend my wife and I went to see the Dennis quaade film Reagan that was showing at theaters all around the country my wife and I thought thought the film was very well done I really enjoyed it in fact Ronald Reagan was the first President I actually had a chance to vote for 19 1980 I wasn't old enough to vote in the election of 1976 but I was in 1980 I just the fact is a 76 election I just missed it there was a Hollywood actor that didn't much care for his uh politics that once told his son Michael that that he missed his dad Ronald Ronald Reagan and he said the reason he missed him is Reagan had a good soul and I think that's a uh that's an app descript destion of President Ronald Reagan he had a good soul I think that's that was the man and I think uh the movie portrayed that showed that in great detail I thought how that Ronald Reagan was just pretty well a good man he probably wasn't as great an actor as uh as he maybe he wanted to be but he was a good man and I think he did have he did indeed have a good Soul the film I thought was pretty good most of the films have been done about Ronald Reagan or his portrayal in any of these films I think had been rather negative and this this film was pretty well all positive about Ronald Reagan and and the Legacy he left behind him I do think he was a good man I just think that's missing from politics today quite a lot I mean our politics are are rather brutal now and and if you know a little bit about the history of American politics it's happened before and it goes clear back to Jeff and John Adams and some of those campaigns were absolutely brutal and we think it just started with us actually it didn't it goes back a long way and if you would investigate that a little bit you find out some of those campaigns real harsh and uh he' actually he might actually be a little shocked by it if you get chance I think you ought to go see Ronald Reagan or see the re you get a chance I think he'd be wise to go see the rean film I think you'll enjoy it something else I wanted to discuss on this uh I've been thinking about this for quite some time about adding a little feature toward the end of these videos just something about a little fact or a little factoid about the old west that that maybe you don't know and I'm thinking about putting one of those kind of a did you dig you know segment here at the end of these videos and uh I think it might give you a little education about the West and and maybe tell you a few things you've never heard before and I think it's I think the old west fascinating obviously I write about it so it's not surprising that I would find something interesting in the in the history of the old west and the figures involved in it today I thought I would tell you about a man named Bartholomew Masterson better known to you as Bat Masterson if you ever watch reruns on television you'll see Bat Masterson portrayed by Jean Barry and the old television series some of it they get right of course A lot of it they don't but it it was a it was an entertaining series back in the days when westerns dominated to televisions when I was at the Western writers convention here recently there was a man speaking out there that I had the chance to talk to and and during his during his sessions he was he cautioned us he was a professor of history and he cautioned us about using stereotypes in a writing and I actually had the chance to speak with him later I mentioned that I lived in Ohio and he turned around and said what do a from about a high I know about deal West and I got a kick out of it kind of and I I thought about bringing it up to him later but I didn't know how it be received but here's a man cautioning us about stereotypes and there he was exercising one of them stereotyping somebody and deciding that somebody somebody from Ohio couldn't know anything about the old west and what's interesting about that and this kind is what brought me around to this uh basically this little did you know segment when you talk about Bat Masterson Bat Masterson wasn't from the American West fact is he wasn't from America Bat Masterson was born in Quebec Canada and 1853 and actually came to this country and made quite a name for himself in the west becoming friends with some uh some of the most well-known lawmen in in American history uh of the 19th century such as uh Wy ER and Bill telman and others and so Bat Masterson had quite an interesting Life as a buffalo Hunter even later became a sports reporter but I thought you'd find that interesting that uh one of the heroes of the West wasn't even born in the west and he wasn't born in America Bat Masterson was born in Quebec anyway it's something I thought you might not know and might find interesting anyway I'll catch you later bye now [Music]
