it's the full court press with Eric Franson and Jason Walker welcome back to the uh you know to the to the show that we're doing right now following the local teams breaking down the biggest games with in-depth analysis and team interviews there's going to be much higher expectation sense of awareness of what we bring to the table join the show by calling into 435 752 1069 or text 435 339 0321 it's the full court press touch they did [Music] it hey what's going on everybody Eric fransen Jason Walker here on the full court press hope you had a great weekend uh and um once again congratulations to all the Utah State University graduates the various ceremonies that were taking place Thursday and Friday a lot of extra folks in town and um now it just it feels a little different here in the valley after having all those uh students starting to exit and not here like they were but good ridd I mean um congratulations I'm just kidding yeah I know one of my former colleagues of the Statesman he graduated I think actually had a couple graduate this year so very nice to see them uh being able to graduate and continue in their profession yeah so exciting stuff um interesting things developing over the weekend for Utah State for the uh men's basketball team and looks like that roster is now complete I think we can declare this roster is done yeah barring any surprise exits at this point uh very I think the transfer portal window closes in like three days I think it closes Thursday or Friday if it's not already closed and then yeah unless one of the recruits that odm brought in suddenly decides at the final 11th hour to just dip then yeah this roster is complete Walk-Ons and allers 15 players on the roster which I think is the hard limit I don't think you're allowed to have more even with Walk-Ons uh the the deadline for transfer portal is May 11th for men's and women's basketball yeah so I I I think this roster I I would be surprised there's only two more players I think who can transfer and that's Mason fals Lev and Isaac Johnson and I feel like they had have transferred by now I think both of them were very much on board with red shirting last year and they're ready to go this year both are going to be competing for rotation spots they got recruited over for potential starting spots but they're guys who are going to be fighting I mean both could start they have that possibility but we'll see I don't think they're leaving so yeah the roster is complete that's the uh that's the long and short of it so uh some additions over the weekend you know we already mentioned uh Jackson Smith that kind of it seemed to happen just before we went on the air on Friday the Woods Cross point guard who um has played against some teams from from region 11 so eagle-eyed Ridgeline fans and a few others have have seen him play before yeah I realized on I think it was the day after that I was like wait a minute you know I called the Logan games like wait a minute Logan played Woods Cross this year so he went back and tried to remember uh and turns out he had 29 points against Logan so I got to see that firstand it was at Woods Cross so not too many Logan uh fans would have seen it unless they made the trip but I kind of vaguely remember one kid who's able to shoot really effectively um yeah he'll be coming in likely as a walk on um but as I said on Friday don't discount Walk-Ons CU in the last 5 years we've had three of them become full-time starters yeah impact players Major Impact players yeah one of them was a star he's leading scorer on the team yes the other two were maybe not stars but they were starters and key rotation players on very good Aggie teams uh and then the other Edition is uh Southern Nazarene transfer uh Javon Jack Jackson um and this is uh more of that scoring guard uh type that Utah State looked like they needed that one of the last pieces to be filled and he seems to fill that role yeah he's coming out of division two so it's hard to take the you know 16 points per game at complete face value but in Breaking him down and I've got basically the final piece of my newcomer breakdown breaking down like all 10 of the incoming actually I think 11 incoming players if you include Jackson Smith there um yeah of Jayvon Jackson he's you know when I was when I was breaking him down he's a if he doesn't develop anymore at all he was a freshman last year if he doesn't develop anymore he's an elite shooter very good ball handler and an active Defender that's what he is right now and like that's a decent point guard right there and so he has that floor and he can build off of it he's quick he's six foot three so he's got good size you'd like to project him into more of a point guard role we'll see if he's capable of doing that I think he averaged like 2.8 is assists if I'm remembering correctly so yes he was a bit more of a score but he can be uh he's a guy you can run the offense through even if he's not a you know pass first point guard you know Yi running the offense through Steven Ashford at the times he's not really a I don't know true point guard if you want to use the term um as far as you know being a great passer you know Steph Ashworth is more of a scorer than a passer but they could run him as the point guard and so many players on that team last year could all pass the ball pretty effectively yeah and so necessarily need a floor General taking care of that yeah and so he can at least at his Peak he can be the guy that you can run the offense through he's quick he's athletic I love his ball handling ability like it's great he's down there breaking guys down with a pretty you know pretty nice bag of tricks for a freshman and he's got the quickness and he hustles all over the place like I was watching him I was like dang I'm getting tired just watching this guy like watching him on one offensive possession and you know he's off ball and he cuts and then you know nothing comes of it which you know a lot of times you cut nothing comes of it because maybe it's just not the right time but then he sees another opening and he cuts through that and then he you know cuts to a spot to maybe bail out a teammate who needs to find somebody to pass and he's just moving all over the place and on defense his head is on a swivel constantly looking to make sure his he's on his guy but he's also you know looking to maybe rotate to try and cut off a driving lane it's like this guy moves constantly so he has all of the foundation that you want you know and he did that as a freshman to then build off of that now maybe he doesn't build off that not all prospects who have potential to work out but he's got a very very solid foundation and the physical tools and skills to become a you know a guy who can be a leading scorer on the team so I really like the pickup now there's things that he's iffy on right now for instance he's a bit of a turnover machine um you know but again freshman who had a lot of offensive scoring load and passing load he's going to have some turnovers so he just needs to cut down a little bit on those and then just improving here and there in terms of some of his shooting right one of the big questions and we've discussed this but one of the big questions with this team coming into next season is just how do their roles now evolve right how do their Styles change from where we've seen them before some of the some of these guys are teams that were not good teams so they were asked to do a lot just to because they didn't have much on the roster and and now you come to a team that is going to be playing in a tougher conference with more athletic uh more physical players than what they've used to so does what they did before does that translate to what they need to do next and what is a rotation look for these guys who are your starters going to be what's your backup situation going to look like because right now there's a lot of guys here that a lot of them could be fighting for starting uh starting roles or significant rotation uh positions this uh Javon Jackson is he going to be a starter probably not just because I would think that some other guys with more experience skill and uh opportunity with the division one are probably going to be ahead of him but this signals opportunities for guys to grow in the system and guys who might still be rotation guys deeper down on the bench who could still come in and get you a bucket if you needed one yeah you're going to have you know Darius Brown and Josh Udu are probably your two starters on the guard line um and unless Javon Jackson and fals have absolutely blow it away in training camp you're probably going to wind up those two and honestly you might end up with UD if that was the case where one of those two just breaks out he might move over to like small forward and you put in FAL Lev or Jackson but the thing is there's 80 minutes of rotation time on the guard line and UD could play some of his minutes at small forward so that opens up you know potentially even more minutes for Jackson falslev you know if Garrison Phelps wants to try his hand at you know playing guard and of maybe playing more exclusively on the wing you know there's room for these guys to play consistent minutes I me especially Javon Jackson where he's probably a bit more of a point guard than anyone else on the roster like asess Darius Brown is like the point guard and then you have a couple of combo guards in Mason fals of and Javon Jackson and they can kind of there's minutes a backup point guard that they can that they can um take then obviously there's some room at the two guard cuz because it's Josh UD and well Javon Jackson Mason fev and and Garrison Phelps like there's room for all these guys to get minutes grow into roles you know Darius Brown is only going to be here one year so next year guaranteed one of those spots is opening up so there's guys who can develop this year and Advance their skills and be ready for next year as well yeah it's uh and as we talked about the team at the other positions there's a lot of Versatility on this roster oh yeah you can move guys around and play multiple spots on the floor somewhat position um not maybe not entirely but but you may have a a designated point guard you may have a designated big man in the post but even then uh your your your guy your quote unquote Five Spot could be floating out on the wing just as well way that this roster is currently constructed I don't know if there is a single player on this roster actually there probably is one player but he's a walk- on there's really only one player who I'd single out and say you're pretty much going to play one position and I guess you could say Darius Brown um or I guess like Jackson Smith he's like the one guy you could say will play one position he's going to play point guard right Darius Brown he's the closest I come to another but he could play shooting guard honestly in some cases now there's nobody on the roster who's going to be prioritized as like the point guard over him so he's always going to nominally be the point guard but he has the versatility that he could do that but everyone else Mason fli you know Javon Jackson they can play both guard spots Josh UD can play the two and the three you just go through the roster everybody even the centers could maybe play power forward although a lot of that has to do with the versatility of great osbar yeah where there's a very interesting uh series of uh potential front Court lineup so they can run where osar pairing with either Jackson Grant and Isaac Johnson where Grant and Johnson are nominally centers you know one's 610 the other's 7 foot and that's the role that they came into college to play they're not really power forward that's not really what they do but put them next to great osbar and while osbar is nominally a power forward he's like a small ball Center and so what you and he's also a decent rim protector probably a better rim protector than Grant or Johnson so put osbar with either of those two players and suddenly you have maybe on defense maybe osbar is guarding the paint a little bit more while maybe Gran or Johnson are on the outside and especially on offense where instead of you know a center just standing in the dunker spot or setting screens ospar ends up playing the role of post post up big and screener and then you're sticking grander Johnson in the corner to shoot threes so while yeah sure one of them is the center and one of them is the power forward their roles are kind of melding it can create some interesting lineups and combinations for Utah State yeah which uh we we got a taste of last year and with with Dan Ain and how he was used versus you know uh Taylor Funk um and some other guys that were of similar size but just how they were used and the roles that they played didn't always match just their physical traits yeah it'll be funny because you know he played with Taylor funk you know 6 foot n but he's a forward he'll be playing with 6 foot 10 and seven Footers yeah so it'll make it like and you got guys who can be a little more um you know they can get rebounds a little better a little bit better whatnot so it'll be interesting to watch this year to to see exactly how it goes and uh and how um gray osar mels with the other bigs because if either Jackson Grant or Isaac Johnson in terms of archetype those two are almost exactly the same in a lot of ways if one of them ends up breaking out being a really good player they could form an incredibly dangerous duo with ospar and then if khalifas Sako comes in and has a great room protector you may not have the same spacing that Johnson or Grant can provide since both of them are three-point Shooters and Sak is not and neither is osbar um but the thing is osbar and Sako like who on Earth is scoring in the paint on that duo Sako is a 611 rim protector osbar is a big bruis it big down low who can also get blocks with a long wingspan so that creates a terrifying defensive Duo although you wonder what happens on offense but yeah but at least if they can um if they can do enough in the paint to cause defenses to respect what they could potentially do that still creates spacing and opportunity you don't want to leave that guy open yeah and it's not as much of a killer in college to only have three Shooters out on the floor it's not like the NBA where you're basically dead if you only have three Shooters yes true in college a lot of teams manage to get get away with it a lot more especially when these guys are going to be talented in the paint you've got Darius Brown who can you know run the pick and roll with either of those players so that will be one thing to watch is how great ospar who's basically the one guaranteed starter in the post how does he meld with the other centers because if he melds well with them and if the other centers perform well with him or at least individually then Utah State's going to have a fantastic front Court which and then you look to the back court and there's a lot of potential there and you can watch what happens there and if the front court and back court if they end up feeling living up to their potential then you've got a fantastic team couple texts coming through 9315 on our full court press text line uh I like push plays signed prospective jazz players go NBA and pretend fans okay uh and then amazing how fast we filled in the roster for USU basketball but what is more impressive is that all are we above say all are above average all are above average players that look better than most of the guys who left sprinkle recruits also Trend dorius in the portal yeah I saw that with with trevan dorius I was informed that he was just done with basketball and it says he's in the portal and I'm not 100% sure that means he's actually going to land somewhere I'd keep an eye on whether or not he actually ends up transferring somewhere but if he does based on what I've heard his priorities are they may very well be academic academically motivated where he's going to a school where yeah he's going to play basketball but he's looking to get like a master's degree or a second master's degree or whatnot yeah I I saw that and I just kind of interpreted that as look I'm just going of I'll I'll I'll put my flag up on the poll um if anybody of Interest comes notice to take notice then I'll consider it but yeah and I know there was one seeming coincidence in somebody pointed this to me out on Twitter is apparently VCU had a I think it was somebody who was committed to them who a center decommitted and then suddenly trevorius enters the portal so and you know Ryan odm he's the guy who helped dorius you know become a rotation level Center who knows I think it's probably just a coincidence but who knows maybe it's not uh 8968 texting in nice to see that the agie basketball team has somewhat climbed out of its doldrums it's hard not to think how good the next year team might have been as far as like if everyone stayed yeah it would have been good you would have had you know y sha barstone and stepen Ashworth and Max willan all these guys you know try and think who maybe Danny sprinkle would have really fit in or maybe if odm stays um it would have been a good team would have contended for the Mountain West Title um it would have would have provided a a really intriguing foundation for other transfers to look at coming here when you've got those kind of players already established coming back then uh that's it's a little bit of a different conversation that you uh you sell to a to a prospective transfer to come here yeah and they would have been targeting probably centers and bigs stretch fors that type of thing because their guards would have been pretty well taken care of but they you know they would have had to replace Taylor Funk and Dan Ain and Trend dorius bring in a a big or two and they would have had a pretty dang good pitch they play with with these guys they pass it a ton they shoot it really well got all the space you want in the paint Dan aan is able to feast in the paint he show like 70% around the rim because he's often just wide open so but yeah I think in this kind of goes back to 9 through and FES the part of the text we didn't end up kind of addressing is just where you know it was impressive that Danny sprinkle got this roster together fairly quickly I know it took a couple of weeks to get going but once he got going it wound up really fast he had to wait past the recruiting Dead period obviously had to reach out and get visits but once he did that bam bam bam bam bam bam yeah justs coming in and he brought in good players uh and I I know there's already I think an overreaction as to the agies being like really good this year now mind you I tried to Tamper down expections of certain Utah Jazz players and ended up being horribly wrong because it turns out I was underestimating I'm going to attempt to do the same here and say look I like pretty much every single one of the recruits sprinkle's brought in there's a couple that I'm kind of iffy on as far as their ability to fill their role but overall I think this is a good team but still I'm like I'm keeping my expectations or at least the camp of my expectations fairly low like there people saying we're going to be better than last year you sure about about that that was a pretty good team last year like yeah that was a really good team um now is there room for this team to develop into that kind of team yeah I suppose so it'll be they'll do it in a different way where instead of being this Elite offensive team and Elite three-point shooting team they'll do it through defense but I just don't want to bank on that I don't want to bank on 11 new players walking in melding together super quick and you know know being a team that wins 26 27 games in a very tough conference that's that that's above expectation that shouldn't be the expectation I think the expectation at this point is this team should go at least 500 they're good enough to do that they have good players they have talent they have athleticism they have length they have all the tools and talent necessary to build a good team but it takes more than just Talent and shooting and defensive potential to win in the Mountain West like how many times year after year after year do we see teams like New Mexico or UNLV or whoever or Fresno yeah or Fresno put together these teams that have talented transfers that have length and all this and they don't end up coming together this team still has to go through that process of coming together meshing together and learning to you know unite under an identity last year's team United under an identity where everybody can score you know 25 points on any given night and that worked for them this team's going to have to come together and say not a single soul is ever going to score more than 65 points on us this year and then we're going to score 70 a night they need to do that and that's gonna that's where Danny sprinkle's job comes in is he's done the recruiting he's done the you know the 80 90% of you know winning in college basketball where he's recruited but that last little bit does matter a lot he has to be able to bring this team together yeah absolutely a lot more of your text to to get through love to hear from you 435 339 0321 variety of you as well 435 339 0321 as we been mentioning Utah State men's basketball team looks like they've completed their roster or have they good question coming in from 3288 is there one spot still left even if Sako stays on the roster or are we filled at this point based on the math that I've done this roster is filled uh Javon Jackson presumably filling that last scholarship spot um so done the math because Utah State actually didn't use up all their scholarship players last year although that was largely because they had a player leave shortly before the season started Kade Potter ended up leaving the team um and so they only had 12 scholarship players they had three Walk-Ons so 12 scholarship players 10 left so you have two and you're allowed 13 scholarships they have added 11 scholarship players to get back to 13 they have two Walk-Ons so that's say provided nobody else leaves this roster is full and that includes red shirt players like the guys that red shirted last year Well if somebody chooses of this class chooses to red shirt Le they they're still under scholarship yeah you can't red shirt somebody then bring in another scholarship player you have 13 spots and whether or not you play them is up to you but that's that's your team so uh because Sako verbally committed I think they've all like officially signed something and so I think they'd have to be released by Utah State and so that's why there's kind of an assumption that they they're all coming because while some of the guys that have committed in the spring like some of them may not have signed and so they could technically o reopen their recruitment I mean Jackson Grant did that or yeah Jackson Grant did that with Montana state right but I think the those four guys who were odm recruits they'd already signed was it the what's the thing they signed letter yeah it's like a financial aid or or an letter of intent yeah something like that where they they've officially signed some dotted line that they're coming they could get released from it but they would have to go through that process they can't just get on Twitter and say I'm reopening my you know recruitment right school has to release them yeah so that's why unless they came out and said we're going somewhere else or we got that announcement from somewhere the presumption should be that they're coming uh let's see 9315 texting in if any school could go 25 wins in their first year Utah State could be that team due to USU history and having it happened before in the past yeah this team certainly has a history of of surprising I mean 201819 Craigs Smith's first year they were picked to finish what like ninth 10th something like that they finished tied for first last year Ryan odm I think they were picked to finish eighth or ninth we both I think I might have had them a little higher maybe seventh but we were both not super high on their prospects they finished tied for second so low expectations and overachieving is no stranger to Utah State but I'm not going to place expectations that I don't think you're Justified based on the data we have Utah state has built a roster full of players who are were great at lower levels they picked up you know great division 2 guy and Javon Jackson they picked up three big sky award winners in Darius Brown great osbar and Nigel burus you know they picked up a guy who was uh you know good score but he was on a bad Coastal Carolina team right you know and so you know you pick up a a guy like Jackson Grant who's got a bunch of unfulfilled Potential from his high school days so you're bringing in a bunch of guys you throw in Max agunk Polo who's been a bit of an underachiever so you're bringing in a bunch of guys who are either Underachievers uh so far you could say Isaac joh Johnson Jackson Grant Max a polo all three of them have based on their high school you know recruiting ranking have underachieved right they're all top 100 players yeah now the talent is there if they all fulfill their potential then the aies suddenly become like a sweet 16 team but you can't Bank on people just magically fulfilling their potential in one season um and you know you look at guys like you know the the guys that bed from lower levels those guys can come in and they they can succeed but a lot of times they're surrounded by guys who have already played at those higher levels so basically your entire team is like stepping up in level of competition I guess a couple of them are stepping down like Jackson Grant and Isaac Johnson but like just about everyone else is like stepping up in terms of the level of competition they're used to playing against and one individual can usually handle that provided he comes into a good situation but your when your entire team is doing that there's just a red flag that's waving in my head it's like I like every one of these recruits for one reason or another I've gushed over some of these recruits but I don't want to place expectation and say okay all these guys are going to come together they're all going to fulfill their potential they're all going to improve on their weaknesses they're all going to maintain their strengths and they're just going to come in and they're going to play just as well put up just as good a stat as they did in their previous locations I I can't I can't put that on them because that's not how it works usually uh by the way just going through trying to find out find out what I can about uh uh kifo Sako um he did commit to Utah State the Utah State meds basketball program made it official early November last fall um but since then he hasn't said anything about Utah State or his plans or intentions one way or the other but he did he was part of the the early signing class last fall for Utah State he's a very quiet individual uh he's he's French so he's not I don't know if he speaks superr English so he's not he's kind of out of his elet he's a bit of a fish out of water in terms of you know being in the US so and when I went to the open practice and he was there and he was shy as a kite like I don't know if he said a single word the entire time um is Odin was introducing him and Sako had I think somebody there like a mentor or something there he was really shy but now of course on the court you don't really see that because he's a very energetic and athletic player but terms of his personality it doesn't surprise me at all that he's been pretty quiet but uh yeah 6'1 220 pounds good size from Texas um and he was at South plan's college so he would be coming in as a transfer yeah he's a Joo transfer right so I mean there really doesn't seem to be one indication one way or the other that he's not coming to Utah State yeah the presumption is since he's signed on the dotted line that he's coming until he says he's not that's what I'm going with and you've included that in your number of you're you're including him and is your number of uh the available roster spots or unavailable roster spots for USU yeah I'm including him as being on the roster gotcha right so if you go to my little transfer tracker I list him as on the roster in a presumption that he is coming uh okay so hope that helps clear that up with some of those asking questions uh 3288 Curious um of both of your three teams in the conference this year for basketball your top three teams in the conference for basketball I think mine is number one boisey number two San Diego State number three New Mexico I think Aggies are outside of these for sure we probably end up at the middle of the pack this next year I think that's fair enough like mostly cuz we know the most about those three teams theist off New Mexico is bringing back most of their key players San Diego State I think they're losing a couple guys but they're you know they reload they do fine boisey State They're bringing back a lot of guys um and we're a good team last year so we know the most about them they have quality returners and so yeah right now now they probably should be considered to be at the top cuz like honestly who else like are you putting above them yeah cuz a lot of other teams we don't know who they are yet we like Utah State we know the roster but we don't know who they are yet Wyoming I think their roster is filled as well we have no clue who they are they are so it's just those are the three who were good teams last year they bring back quality returners everyone else is an unknown I agree I think that the only thing I would change with that ranking I would put San Diego State number one and boisey number two New Mexico number three I think I would keep New Mexico at number three um but I I would think the Aztecs would have the momentum on their side um and I know every year it's it's a different story because your roster is different but that's uh the team that is coming back there's going to be enough talented guys that went deep in the NCAA tournament um they've got a good formula working there so I would go with the Aztec at number one boisey number two and New Mexico coming in at number three yeah I don't know if I'd feel comfortable ranking them in order but I think if I were I'd probably agree with you maybe I'd split hairs on boy State San Diego State New Mexico probably would be in thir just because yeah they're bringing back talented guys but they were also they had talented guys last year and went pretty unfulfilled yes that's true uh but I think with that was um so honestly I think but that was Richard patino's first year yeah and that was a that was an interesting roster um they're with their with their talent coming back that's probably why they would put New Mexico up there but you're right I mean they they uh started off hot but then they faded late so yeah I think no Utah State they could finish and the expectation should probably be like at least the middle of the pack finish try and make that you know what is it the four five matchup that you play kind of in that uh technically a buy or whatnot or something like that where you're playing on day two like that should try and be your expectation your you know initial goal stretch goal is to be a top three seed which there is potential for but that's again don't be setting lofty expectations for that expect this team to have a mathematical chance to win the conference in like January and then hope that they turn out better than that if there was a team that uh might challenge New Mexico for the number three spot I'd probably put Nevada there um but um they got hit pretty hard by transfers too though they did they did lose will Baker I know he's not their best player but yeah but uh you know I think Utah State's in that four or five range right now yeah I think they can we see him in until I see him in practice and see what this team how they meld together that's that's about where I feel comfortable putting him yeah well we'll have to see we'll have to get as much information as we can hopefully they have some open practices and stuff that'd be nice that would be nice but uh these guys tend to be somewhat secretive for you know sometimes good reason all right guys take another time out here in the full court press when we come back Logan Bonner is going to be playing professional football but full court press text line 435 339 0321 Logan Bonner had himself a nice career in Utah State a record setting season few years ago and um his uh his final year derailed by injuries it was really unfortunate he just wasn't ready to get under Center again and um it just it unfortunately ended poorly um but uh he still had an opportunity to rehab and get healthy and tried to play professionally somewhere he had a couple of workouts after the uh the draft he went to the uh an NFL rookie mini camp in Indianapolis with the Colts but uh he's not going to the NFL but he is going to play professionally Jason yeah he is he's going to go play in the Canadian Football League see if he can take the Anthony Calo route worked out pretty well for him yeah he end up being the NFL's or the professional football's alltime leading passer although I think he's did Tom birdie end up passing him oh that's a good question I think he might have because I think Calia was in like the mid 80 thousands and I think Tom Brady up like 88,000 or something like that very possible considering his longevity yeah so he'll go he'll go play Canadian football and and we'll see how he's able to do um I was looking into Calgary's quarterback situation they've had a guy um you know as their full-time starter last year wasn't an elite passer but we'll see maybe boner can come in start slinging the ball around in the Canadian Football League yeah and their season starts that's late May uh yeah soon doesn't it I think I was I was looking at the schedule and um I think the pre-season starts like May 22nd I think yeah Calgary is their first pre their preseason week one starts on May 22nd they play Edmonton at least I think that's what that abbreviation means well best of luck to Logan Bonner going to the CFL and we'll be keeping an eye on any other former agies who do sign whether it's uh with the NFL CFL XFL U usfl yeah trying to keep track of all these and I keep trying to figure out what's going on with Alfred Edwards of course he got drafted into the usfl but he's actually going to a NFL mini camp so he's probably going to chase the NFL dream and end up missing the usfl season which is currently ongoing I think they're two three weeks in now so uh 5338 go stamp Peters let's go stamps there we go it's an interesting name Calgary stamp Peters yeah it is but there are a lot of names if you actually think about them are pretty dumb Utah Jazz is got to be high on the list uh other news of note Utah Jazz rookie Walker Kessler makes it on the NBA all rookie team no surprise I like how you tease this earlier like is did Walker ker make the all rookie team dude was a finalist for rookie of the year he better be on the all rookie team it should come as no shock or surprise to anyone of course there were five individuals who thought he was on the second team which who on Earth put him on the second team like seriously H like my faith in democracy diminishes every single time an award is handed out and I see these like that's kind of how it should be like unanimous always kind of makes me feel uncomfortable too and somebody just completely unanimous cuz then it's like okay that probably shouldn't happen but there are some things probably should be unanimous and that one of those is like I I don't even know if Pao banera was unanimous he was unanimous first teamer but uh Jaylen Williams I don't think he was he was 99 out of 100 99 and Walker ker was 95 out of 100 and so it's like okay those three should have been unanimous First Team all rookie like who else there's a little bit of controversy though with Jaylen Williams because there's another jayen Williams of Oklahoma City who spells Jaylen slightly differently oh did he get received one first place vote first team vote oh that's awkward and five second team votes that's awkward I was like earlier I think in the oh was it basketball I think it was basketball when Mississippi Valley State who was like 300 like 59 in the Ken palom received a AP Top 25 vote and it was because somebody made a mistake because they were trying to vote for Mississippi State who I think in that poll was ranked in the 20 first or 22nd and it was just this one random journalist and she misclicked she accidentally voted for Mississippi Valley State instead of Mississippi State maybe this is the same thing oops it's it's a human mistake it happens it happens yes it happens um so yeah congratulations to Walker Kesler uh NBA all defensive team will be revealed tomorrow interesting to see if he makes uh makes that team first team or second team is there two team I don't think I don't think there's a second team no I don't he's he's good on defense he ain't that good you got Brook Lopez and and other considering the position that he's that he plays there's some stacked Defenders like Joel embiid and and Brook Lopez and babio and just there's a lot of centers who are better defensively than Walker kesla right now there's no reason he should be making all defensive team this year but that's in the cards down the road and then the all NBA team uh teams plural that will be revealed later this week we'll see if flowery Markin makes one of those I don't think he will but it's possibility right it's interesting to note because if you win one of those Awards uh or make an all NBA team that qualifies you for a supermax contract doesn't the most improved player qualify him or does that not on the list oo that's a good question I can't remember if that's on the list I don't know if that's on the list I feel like it shouldn't be cuz it's there's some you know midlevel players who can win some of these Awards like clutch and and Rookie of the Year and all that and it's like you shouldn't earn a super max based off of just that yeah I think that's more Rookie of the Year player or MVP all NBA first team or just an all NBA team all NBA team defens def player which hope Sixth Man of the Year I don't know if that I I don't think Sixth Man qualifies I feel like you shouldn't get a supermax cuz you earned Sixth Man of the Year it's like congratulations you didn't start all year you're some super max [Laughter] contract yes it's possible marke and makes all-nba uh but as always all-nba just creates a bunch of whining on social media and I'll be here to observe it all we'll be here for all of it uh got to take another timeout here in the full court press when we come back update you on what's going on with High School playoffs couple of teams from region 11 are advancing and we're going to going actually quite a few upsets throughout 4A yeah there were more upsets than otherwise on Saturday and couple of those involving some region 11 teams yeah so uh the one game that went Chu was actually the game that region 11 lost number two Crimson Cliff beats number seven Sky View uh 4 to2 in a pretty high-scoring game but the rest of them were all upsets one of them more just nominally an upset where uh five seed Green Canyon beat four seed ridgel line w know them these are two very well very evenly matched teams they split the regular season series one of them went to a shootout in the regular season green cany gets a goal in the first half and they managed to hold him off the rest of the way we were able to broadcast that game on cash daily.com I was able to provide the play-by-play there so exciting game and well the other upset and the one that surprised me I didn't remember to check in on it but as I pulled up the page I was like wait a minute did I see that right because Lon Christian Academy the number one seed lost to eight seed Dixie uh maybe could be a bit of a dangerous team they they blew out their first round match up 7 to2 upset the number one seed 2 to one now they're going to face Green Canyon uh down at Zion make stadium and will be uh having the radio coverage for that game um but then the other game another upset six seed Mountain Crest beats number three seed Desert Hills 3 to one and I'd say Mountain CR probably the most underrated team in the tournament at this point yeah so be red line excuse me Green Canyon uh Green Canyon in the first game at 10:00 a.m. Mountain Crest in the second game at 12:30 and uh you're planning on going down and call in both those games yep I'll be down there I'm trying to see if I can get someone to come with me so we can have a you know play byplay and uh and uh color commentary but yeah should be two good games back down at zans makes Stadium where I was able to go for the championships for girls soccer and girls soccer did very well down there in the Championships so you must go you're the good luck charm apparently apparently hey every game I've been to this year the region 11 team won granted there was only one game where a region 11 team faced a non- region 11 team but that one was they were playing Leighton Christian the number one seat so maybe I am a good look chair yeah so those games we'll have them on radio at 1077 klzx an audio option to listen on Cash Valley daily as well um and if one of those region region 11 teams advances they'll play on Friday at America first field formerly known as Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy so pretty exciting stuff we'll continue to update you on all of it as we go through the week we'll see you tomorrow I'm Dan Patrick and this is above the noise when you're the son of one of the greatest basketball players of all time there's going to be immense pressure on you to succeed that's what makes bronny James Journey so interesting he's the son of four-time NBA champ LeBron James due to that connection bronny was heavily criticized early in his career he was expected to be dominant like his dad but he wasn't at least not yet fast forward to this year James is developed into a four-star recruit and now ranked 26th overall in his class he dropped 15 points in the McDonald's All-American Game and as of this weekend officially committed to play at USC whenever you're dealing with an 18-year-old old you can never be too certain how they will develop so it's hard to say how bronny will transition into college but after a very public childhood with plenty of expectations it's nice to see bronny James succeed on his own I'm Dan Patrick and this is above the noise [Music]
