setting the stage for major business deals so you're making the company a lot of money so they can pay you a lot of money it's a fantastic starting point for anyone looking to make a mark in sales whether you call it SDR bdr whatever the general role sales okay the found foundational skills that you're going to want to know as an SDR is you're going to want to develop essential skills like effective communication lead qualification cold calling Etc be comfortable with people and build strong relationships to identify potential customers so you got to be comfortable chatting chatting people up asking them questions and problem solving for educational background I mean some people like to see hey I have a business degree hey I have a marketing degree sure can't really get a sales degree right really sale what sales people care about is your background but if you're a fresh beginner then it's just critical learning happens on the job and through industry specific training so don't even worry about a college degree for the most part when it comes to sales certifications and specializations do help sometimes so you might want to consider things like hey I'll be certified in sales methodologies like spin selling or Sandler training to enhance your selling techniques and credibility and there are some well-known courses out there that you can take so you can smack a logo on your LinkedIn some people care some people don't specializing I would say is probably the most important I've I've heard from some people I know who are um account Executives uh sales development reps and they've really just said you want to focus on becoming an expert in a specific industry or product type which can help you tailor your approach and increase your Effectiveness what do I mean by this okay it's really important to decide what path am I going to go down and if you start off with sales selling pools or jacuzzi it might be more difficult to get into selling software as a service to large Enterprises obviously right so if you're going this route because you see that people are making like 300 400 $500,000 here selling large packages to Fortune 500 companies through SAS products then you might just need to go through the grind of being an intern showing results until you get a lowp paying job here and then boom they trust you with some sales you crush it there and or some people answering you reaching out to them now interview preparation what what is most important for sales interviews is to do mock interviews practice your responses to Common sales interview questions and roleplay different selling scenarios to Showcase your communication skills and strategic thinking next technical preparations be prepared to discuss your process for tracking leads how do you manage your sales funnel how do you use a your CRM software to analyze customer interactions and how what's a situation you've done that that led to increased revenue or you hitting greater than 80% of your target goal right next is scaling your career all right on to scaling your career so one thing that we want to take note of right here I have it marked as negotiating salaries but I really mean it as salary and total commission so don't be shy to negotiate your salary or total commission understand the industry standards of an SDR and articulate your value based on your skills and experience most SDR positions you might be able to have a little wiggle room with salary a lot of them have kind of like a rough low range sentence lowish range setting Stone but what you can get fancy with is setting goals certain Milestones that can be hit to increase your total commission or total compensation so for example if I sell x amount of reoccurring products here my three targets
