my name's Eric hurry I Row in the arm shoulders category I'm from Brisbane Australia originally but have relocated my family to Sydney I'm a paraplegic and wheelchair-bound have lost the use of my legs after a head-on motor vehicle accident I'll be 11 and a half years ago the category that I'm in is called the arm shoulders it's all involves of wearing a fixed seat boat with a chest strap that holds us into the seat and most of the field has spinal cord injuries or double amputees originally I was playing wheelchair basketball and then my position changed within the team and I'd been told about there was rowing for the Paralympics and I wanted to get to London and doing a sport that I've never done before so I thought I'd take up the challenge rowing to me is basically it is my life outside of my family it's um what I do like every day of the week it's certainly taken me all around the world the privilege of representing my country is even tops it off even more but just getting out there and showing people that just because I am in a wheelchair I can do anything that I want to do and it really shows my two girls that just because I'm in a chair that dad can still do everything so that's a very personal side to it as well yeah it's the second Paralympics for for Rome Beijing was the first time so London's going to be the second so the level of competitors I think has just skyrocketed as you can see in the last 12 months times have really got quicker so it's it's a sport that's going to get a lot bigger As Time Goes By no more motivation you can get when you get handed your for me the Australian grinning gold zoodie the privilege of being handed that Zuri and representing is just enough motivation as one part but the going and representing your country and knowing that like your nation's watching and the amount of people that are behind you should really gives you that extra boost so I'm not really worried to be to be honest with you I know the training that I've done and I'm happy with the training that I've done the I have respect for the other 11 athletes that are going to be there there's certainly the I guess the favorites um Tom because they've been uh winning at Beijing World Champ but when we were sitting on that line in London in the final it doesn't matter what medals you have at home on your trophy counter because it all comes down to that one La that race is the final and whoever crosses the line first is going to be the person that gets gold past races doesn't mean anything
