Inside Training Camp - C.J. Mosley interview

you guys want to see a football player and I mean a real football player there he is right there now he's not playing football he's taking a little break right here but trust me he was out there making plays that's what he always does that is Jets linebacker CJ Mosley right there in the 57 and through the magic of TV boom there he is sitting next to us now CJ what's up man I appreciate you joining us thanks for having me hey I'm on the field for it may have been a preseason game but uh this guy grabs me and he goes this is my guy my guy from Good Morning football I watch it every single day which I'm not on every single day but he said it was your it was your dad it was Clinton Mo so CJ is actually Clinton Jr that's where the CJ comes from how's my guy doing he's doing great he's doing great still have that great um high energy guys so he's living his life doing good he is incredibly high energy all right so give me the uh rundown we're about uh a week plus into training camp right now The Vibes out here at Jets camp got to be great right um The Good Vibes you know we've been you know been grinding like you said we winding down on week two um green and white scrimmage tomorrow so one of our last few times to really know build our team together and get after each other before we start you know getting ready for the preseason games and Joint practices CJ how much is this defense looking forward to things being different this year when we talked to Aaron Rogers a few days ago he said he wants to give you guys two-score leads how great would that be for you to play with a two-score lead uh it would be awesome um more so far defense Al line I'm sure they appreciate that a lot more and maybe the secondary but um you know we have to control what we can control um you know we can't control what you know what the offense does what the special team does the injuries and all these other things but what we can't control is you know our mindset every day and you know how we execute our game plan you know Judy raises that point and Aaron raises that point and it's like you guys played so well last year trying to keep this team in game week in and week out what could this defense do with a lead like how how would that change how you could approach what Jeff Alber could call for this defense what would be different um well we haven't done it we haven't been in that situ a lot so you know I want to give you a great answer but know when that time's come we'll we'll show you then but um if you're not executing it won't matter I but right but I I think it opens you up to more turnovers it opens you up to be more aggressive more yeah more opportunities more aggression for sure um I'm sure we when when that time does come we will have the right game plan so um we have all our trust in Brick and our coaches so we're going to put he going to put us in the right positions last season was obviously difficult uh you're coming back Aaron is back and has been looking good you have obviously a front row seat but he's been looking sharp and healthy what is the feeling around this team uh you know you feel like you have a tight window here with Aaron Rogers as your quarterback but what is the feeling around this team as they added the pieces to the roster upgraded the roster as you approach this season um well especially with Aaron coming back you know being here being healthy um you know participating this off season obviously in Camp you know we just feel like a whole team um obviously we went down that's a big big piece of our team that went down um and then I know it's one position but it's the most important position in football so just have him here um everybody you know building connections and everything that goes on with camping that lifestyle you know we're just excited to you know see what we can actually bring to the table and obviously like I said you know we can't control the injuries but you know hopefully we have a a good good health this season and we can you know really try go out there and try to prove something you mentioned brick that's your defensive coordinator Jeff olook um I know people look at this team and say oh Robert Salah head coach defensive coach must be his like this is this is you're shaking your head right this is Brick's defense to slowly turn to the offensive coach how about that right about what a turn coat um but uh you know tell me tell me about brick what kind of a coach he is uh and what kind of a coordinator he is um he's a just like as he was as a player he's a passionate coach you know he loves the guys he loves his coaches you know he loves to to try to teach us and put us in his best positions and one of the things I appreciated about Coach brick you know he doesn't allow us to just be okay with what we did yesterday he's not he doesn't want us to be okay with last his defense you know he always challenging us to take that next step that next level um even when you know it's even we run into the ball and he just look like he a little off just CU it looks faster in the game you know he's going to challenge you know whoever it is that is whether it's the whether it's me or whether it's a rookie you know you treat everybody the same all right give us the scouting report on the offense cuz obviously you see them up close every day they made some changes on the offensive line those were the big moves of the off season what are you seeing from the offensive line and just how the the offense is functioning right now um well we'll start with the functioning now they look really good um in and out of motions you know all the the new jet and stuff that the that the NFL offense is starting to do you know uh we're picking up on that as well so I'm from the defensive side you know that helps us a lot when we Face other team that do the same thing but um when it comes to the o line just you know they're stouted up front obviously we got some big guys but um the speed that they move with and the power as well so um it's it's going to be fun to see and it's going to be fun to watch from the sideline and see how running backs after it how about you at this point of your career um a lot of times you'll ask your player ask a player what the goals are for this upcoming season and they'll say I'm going to keep that to myself but I'll let you know if I accomplish them uh what are you looking for yourself and and and where can you improve at this point in your career um at this point in my career uh the communication can never get too old the more I communicate the more our defense can be be more aggressive and anticipate plays um you know the study the film work can always um improve I can find new things to look at but as far as on the field and um especially from my you know my first injury in 2019 my main goal is always to be as as 100% as possible and stay on the field because if I'm on the field that's when I can help our team the best so when it comes to personal goals um I've made it known I need five plus interception this year um I've I've let let my fans down and myself down with some bad drops you know the past couple years I did get one good one with the bears but other than that just be on the field and help our team are you are you after to practice with the jugs machine I mean how do you how practice before practice during practice you know all offseason elb those receivers out of the way I got to get my get myund in here one last question for me uh you've obious obviously been around the league for a while you've seen championship teams like what are your expectations for this team right now this year um well we took the mindset of just taking this thing one day at a time uh we we kind of played played that game last year you know with the when our expectations are the same you know that's not going to change know we're here to win games and get to the Super Bowl win our division all those good things but uh it was a lot of noise and a lot of hype around all that stuff so um I think it's been a good change of pace this year you know it's really family oriented as some people would say with this camp and we can just really focus on the things we need to do necessary to win games CJ Mosley one of uh it was up on the screen there one of three players I believe who have 150 plus tackles what was it the last three years is that what that said you you know know other two are uh no I don't I don't either I was hoping you did I was hoping you there it is one of three players with 150 plus tackles in each of the last three seasons when you don't tackle in training camp and then you could do it and just flip a switch and you get a chance to do it that's impressive right there man hey we appreciate it uh stay healthy everybody stay healthy out here we're looking forward to seeing the Jets in 2024 and tell Pops I said what's up all right will I know he's watching right now he's a big NFL Network fan he's going to flip out yeah go
