[Applause] that's himer Hinson shouting to Tony a short time ago the teams are just been introduced Michael De Higgins uer on the Heron we'll greet them shortly the British prime minister Kier starmer is here as well so we've dignitaries and security all over the place Pat Fen and ke Trac here alongside me uh before we get your final thoughts just a word p on on the messaging from halgrimson he seems to have really got this and but there's also a sense of pragmatism that this Irish group will be just you know will be judged more on the game against Greece on Tuesday than might necessarily be on games like this yeah but I I agree with that but I think he want some sort of a per performance confidence as well as well put it up to England on the day and then move into the grease game like you say that we want to start winning games like that and but today this evening is a big big game for him I think the atmosphere is off the charts like to be fair we we mentioned the banner of Jack Charlton they followed it up and put them under pressure the roof is coming off the place it's it started to fill up it was empty up to a minute or two ago but ultimately we can talk all we want about side shows we got a pitch Invader in full kiss who's joined the uh England team um ultimately it's the players who need to deliver Keith we can talk all we want about the side shows as Michael D Higgins comes out onto the field to play yeah it's all about the players and the hair on the back of me neck is standing up the Olay Olay is going around already with the Irish crowd the English are packed out the way end as well like Pat says the English are far and way Superior than us on paper but what we can do is we can build for the future and we can put a bit of PR back into the oiland Jersey ultimately P what's the what's the the Judgment of success for Ireland tonight the big thing for me is to see how we set up how we play do we use what we have we spoke about before I think we've gone away a little bit defensively we've got good Defenders but we can seeing way too many goals at times we've got attacking players as well that we can utilize with the way again system that suits them are you surprised that Sheamus Coleman then is part of that back three as we expect when you look at the like no lean scales we we've talked about falling over Central Defenders but we still can't get all the top level ones into the one team no I wouldn't I don't think I'm surprised but I do think International football Yeah the more caps you having a pitch does count for a lot so the fact that Sheamus is in there doesn't surprise me I take your point that we've got three four maybe even five really good Center halfes that we could be playing with but I do think colan there if you're going to let d off the leash at times to get down the right wing you need c and somebody there who's going to M the shop and Anthony G's been in electric form from Newcastle over the last couple of months and B coo saaka on the right side up against Brady not a natural left back he's going to have a really tough job as well so the so many interesting One V one battles all over the pitch can't wait to see how it unfolds we talk about the atmospheres and we talk about the lands down Roar and there's an entire generation of fans who have grown up with this myth and this Legend of this intimidating venue like we haven't had enough nights like this and like listen just to paint the picture to people we're here on level five we're embedded in the middle of the fans and this is the first time for me that I really feel a sense of a collectiv about this stadium and that's the one thing we live and breed on with you know go back to the of times a Charles NE for that lown was always difficult place it wasn't a sexy Stadium like this one is but it was a horrible place to come and play it's probably too nice I think what LS that as well listen it's England you know so we're obviously going to be offer as a big English support here plays is jammed out like you say there's a brilliant atmosphere and it will help the players no doubt about that we've come here for games and it's been damp and dead very early on after 10 minutes i' I'd expect us to try use the crowd at the start of this game get after them high up the pitch and put them under pressure as the song just said previously cuz we're going to have to do that at times and we're going to have to be very careful as well when they have possession of the ball to be clever and how we how we approach that I'm wondering if they went too early with that because like the roof came off the place when we were in the middle of an ad break and uh well now listen I won't say that there's a lull because the singing section at the lone Road end of the ground with massive tricolors um you know to be fair the English fans were trying to match it and got booed very very quickly so but ultimately we can talk all we want about the external factors it all comes back to this thing of do we have enough on the pitch there in terms of ability and in terms of mentality and application to make this difficult for England of course we do it's a it's 11v 11 Daman now if you're telling me can we go and be England by playing through the tours and getting people on the ball in the middle of the pitch taking risks and playing out from the back no I don't think we can be England in that way but if we're nice and pragmatic limit our mistakes don't give England anything easily I think we can put them under a bit of pressure maybe somebody will make a mistake and we can get something and there's an old saying that giovan trap Aton used to always say it's nil all at the start of the game make sure at the minimum when we come back in it's nil all at that don't go and loseing look notoriously I know the English are better than us but we generally get draws against been a stalemate so just give us a bit of Pride give us something to get behind seven of the 17 games have ended in a draw one all draw those was 3-0 the last time between the sides but we have to be PR I agree but the Gap was getting bigger it's look back then we had we had the players that were cap matching it's good as what England at this stage we don't for me today I think obviously it's about air performance how we perform but I also think it's how the English players turn up for this it's Nations leag game it's in the middle of a premier league I'm just hoping they switched off a little bit and air Lads are at it but it's a great a great anytime England come to town wherever the sport is it's a proper but they take the arm off anyone for Four Points between this and Tuesday night so yeah listen hopefully we're going to have this atmosphere which is going to maintain over the course of the evening we've got UK on the here and Michael De Higgins just leaving the field to play here alongside Paul Cook he's waving to the lone Road end of the ground he's now to be fair he's a man who's brought communities together in his time he's after given away to the hav square end as well where the England fans are so he's making his way to the sideline it is absolutely brilliant to be here and hopefully we get an evening of entertaining football to go along the way the fans are going to be important Dam you know we're talking about the the atmosphere being really good there is going to be large periods of the game where the English are keeping the ball so the fans are going to have to stay with this Irish crowd every tackle needs to be cheered like it's a goal and we need to just keep them going and try and force some momentum into yish team we'll wait and see how it all plays out we'll have much more to come from Pat and from Keith over the course of the evening but we're almost set and ready to go let's join our match commentary team this evening Former Republic of Ireland Captain Kenny Cunningham alongside adri NES well we're about to have the anthems and uh sadly some booze before God Save the King [Music] [Music] I'm now please PR this I [Music] Hal [Music] the atmosphere is absolutely elic I have to say I'm quite surprised by the reaction to God Save the King allow the copy of booze greeting the playing of the British national anthem as the sets of players exchanged pleasantries before kickoff 3,000 English fans have made the journey they're packed away to our left Town side in the havock Square end of the ground and in the lands down end the Irish fans have been in terrific voice some terrific banners thank you for the days with a a photo of Jack Charlton and blazing on it and another Banner saying was in the year of 88 obviously referencing back to all those years ago Euro 88 and Ray Howton gold in stutgart the two teams getting ready the irisha player has just been photographed for posterity and Kenny cutting him alongside me the atmosphere the buildup has been absolutely ELC it really is it feels like a real occasion doesn't it oh yeah all the way park the car up a Herbert Park rambling Downs absolutely buzzing outside you can't get a fishing chips like you're waiting for about 40 minutes at balls Bridge there no it's great aent it really is does feel a little bit different this afternoon no doubt about it did you get those fishing chips you were looking for 40 minutes no 20 minutes max that's that's as far as as much as otherwise I'll helping at all of course it's a Saturday evening in Dublin the sun is shining conditions absolutely perfect and you football season just under away and a new era for Irish and English football in international terms that new bosses at the wheel of both Lee Cary of course the interim boss of England and of course hair hog Grimson the Icelandic coach in charge of the Republic of Ireland well to run through the Irish team qu Keller in goal Matt Dy was the spal play at right wing back Sheamus Coleman Nathan Collins and dar o Shay as a back three Robbie Brady as a left wing back malumi and small bone in the middle a Ben and schar off the wings and Adam EA the central Striker and of course for England while they line out with Jordan pford in goal Trent Alexander Arnold Harry MaGuire Mark gah and Levi cwell at left back Deon rice and kabby Manu in the middle Saka off the right brish perhaps through the middle Anthony Gordon gets a start in Lee car's first game in charge on the Left Flank and Harry Kane will operate through the center first of all Kenny your thoughts on the Irish selection as made by Heimer hulson yeah I think the big conversation will be tactically how we set up and I saw the the names on the team sh what we hope was we might go to uh Banks of far in the front too I don't think that'll be the case Adrian I think it'll be a kind of back three and two Wing backs Matt dley probably and Robbie Brady in those wide ear is and a narrow front tree as well and we're used to seeing that that's promly how he played previously under Steven Kenny but big responsibility on the shoulders of those two Wing back Robbie Brady in particular if he gets isolated One V one but Bayo saaka down that side of the pitch he's really going to have to need a little bit of help so are we going to dominate the ball maybe not but as long as we're really clinical and effective on the counter taking on transitions then we can stay in this game in h is England team well it will be England to get us underway playing from right to left as we look out from the West stand here at the Aviva Stadium they'll be playing towards the havlock square end of the ground Ireland in their traditional green jerseys and white shorts and green socks and England as you'd expect in that old familiar outfit the white jerseys the blue shorts and white socks the free is from Spain he's Jose Maria Sanchez 3 years ago to this very day he was in charge of the Republic of Ireland against Serbia in a World Cup qualifier here that game ended in a 1-1 draw we're underway and straight away there's an early touch for England's Mar G who had such a tremendous tournament during the course of the summer at the Euro finals Harry McGuire who of course missed the finals in Germany through injury Ireland almost pinching the ball back and Deon rice feeds it back and straight away the booze ring around the Aviva stadium in in the direction of Deon rice he's on it once again I'll hardly need to mention him over the course of the 1990 minutes every time he's on it he's likely to be Jered so too with Jack Gish England who have possession as the ball is worked out to Levi cwell of Chelsea he started all three Chelsea games so far this season I'm back with Harry MaGuire Maguire who started the opening two matches for Manchester United this season and was a sub last weekend at Old Trafford in that 3-0 droing at the hands of Liverpool England already trying to dictate as the ball is fired forward in C of Anthony Gordon appeals to hand ball against the Newcastle Winger and the referee has sounded a whistle and it'll be a free kick to Ireland every decision that goes in favor of the Republic is going to be cheered for the rafters this evening yeah we got to make sure we get that one nor his interested Anthony Garden just got himself into a pocket of space in behind Matt doy and away from Sheamus Coleman little bit of indecision there who was going to pick him up thankfully for us it hit his arm otherwise Sheamus was going to have to face the 1 V one situation against Gordon who's very explosive Adrian spoke about his qualities and sack over the other side of the pitch we really have to be worthy of that so important Robbie Brady and Matt Ary pick and choose their moments to get in advance of that on of back three the free kick taken by the man all in blue quing Keller well kept in play by Matt Dy Benny digs out the cross delivers it into the six-yard box and Ireland will they have the first corner of the evening they do was put behind while promising there for the Republic of irand and just listen to the noise inside GL down road while this place is absolutely Topic at the moment the referee has some sorting out to do Sheamus Coleman just having a word with Jose Maria Sanchez but arand have the first corner of the afternoon and it comes in the second minute and Robbie Brady will prepare to take there been a yellow card dished out there a Jack relish who picked it up Jack and Jason malum going head tohe head wasn't much in it I just like the fact we went back to front early we hit Matt do 40 yard ball up the pitch he won the force header OG Ben switched on to the second ball and immediately we forc a corner direct football May but effective well let's see what Ireland can make of this set piece opportunity so early in the match it's Robbie Brady to take it Ireland's right hand side at the lown road end of the ground Brady to curl it in left footed flat towards the near post decent ball in and it's headed over the top an early opportunity for Ireland well almost a breakthrough goal so early in the match for the Republic of the ball flashed right across the face of goal right what a chance yeah it was Harry McGuire Under Pressure who just flicked it to the back post area from a central position and Jason mum is coming in like a steam train a at that back post area nobody's picked them up and know the ball's come quickly but even still I was expecting him to find the target there and if he does I think he scores but a great start from Oreland certainly is Jordan pick for it of England in Orange sends it out to England's right towards that Trent Alexander Arnold who's bombing down the pitch away from schmich and now an opportunity perhaps for but kak had to create something for England it all breaks down it goes out of play on The Far Side well the crowd continuing to do there a bit to Roar the boys in green on and every England player virtually booed every time they touch the ball and noticeably so in the case of Jack Gish and Deon rice so early in the match H Holograms in the U arand balls sending out his stole today his first day on the job his first day on the line following the departure of Steven Kenny but seems like an absolute age ago perhaps because it was an absolute age ago but hson appointed in July a lot of people surprised at the appointment so it'll be interesting to see how it all plays out it's a new year in Irish football as Jason Momi runs the ball out of play on the far side and that results in a throw in for England interesting just looking at England setup GRE looks as if he's a good bit of a free role mainly is a 10 centrally operating behind Harry Kane he'll really enjoy that position Gordon and sacka obviously off the flanks and Kobe Mayu playing in more of an orthodox partnership with Deon Roy that was to be expected but good early pressure from Orleans getting high up the pitch looking to engage those English Defenders as early as they can canny your um thoughts on the England starting 11 a lot made of the new man coming in that he was going to bring a freshness and youth but it's a very strong England 11 and a very experienced England 11 he's gone with lee carsley yeah you're right Adrian it's con of try and tested had the opportunity maybe starting with Gomez in Midfield Muk he hasn't done that he's gone to his more or less as reliable as I'll be at that Mayu still relatively untested at this level Gordon Gordon hasn't got a huge amount of caps cwell as well on that kind of Orthodox left back position but yeah still a very strong England team and when you think about Ag and the players who are missing the talent that he could have called upon today I'm thinking of fen here in particular Cole Palmer and Jude Bellingham it's absolutely frightening the wealth of talent at the disposal of the English manager at the moment well irand get a free kick for a challenge by Anthony Gordon on Sheamus Coleman it's taken by the Irish goalkeeper queing Keller sends it along up towards the edge of the area it'll break for Baya Saka and bayas Saka feels the challenge coming in from Robbie Brady and that means a free kick awarded to England but certainly the Irish players willing to put in the challenges early on here yeah just can't give away cheap free kicks like that I know Got It Roar from the crowd Robbie Baron into the back of Saka but it got Saka out a jail he was under pressure halfway inside his own half of Robbie behind them just using a bit more composure Robbie staying his feet and maybe force a mistake out sacka if we win the ball Nick the ball off sacka there then we're in a great position to attack the edge of the Box giving away the cheap free kick and imately surrenders possession to England ball floated forward by Harry MaGuire in the direction of Anthony Gordon Gordon faced by Sheamus Coleman and it's Gordon towards the edge of the area and he drilled it across the penalty but kosaka was Rising it'll be retrieved by Alexander Arnold to send it back in oh it's a great ball and a free header for Harry Kane just over over the top a chance at either end Harry Kane there for England Jason malumi a little earlier for the Republic of Ireland but that was a super bow in and not a bad header either yeah spoke about Gordon earlier getting in behind Matt didn't getting Sheamus com in a one V one situations that's what he did drove into the box over hit the cross but England recycled at Alexander arold that's what he does best Alexander AR white right wing position whipped it in first time into the Central Area The Penalty Box spoke by Jason mumi may be doing better getting his head on taret Kane should have done the same their agent couldn't he Center the goal 8 yards out in between Sheamus Coleman and Nathan Collins there should have done better headed off the crossbar should have scored so Arland will have the restart with queing Keller there was a lot of speculation about Keller perhaps moving on during the course of the summer but he has elected to stay at anfield 10 Premier League appearances last season no appearances so far he'll expect to figure out sure at some point of the season and ker from Cork sends it along in the direction of Adam AA got out by Mark gah it'll break for small bone just halfway inside the England half far side of the pitch the ball goes out of play and the TR goes in favor of England and glass there a bit of a lull in the atmosphere that was very interesting the first opportunity had to play from a goal kick was noticeable we went into a back forward Nathan Collin stepped into a hold the Midfield H position quen Keller still wasn't con for play now so I don't mind that he actually hit a 50 yard ball up the pitch Jason mum will small bound looking to pick up the second ball that's okay there's no point force that the lad spoke about it before the game the simple pass is and on go long and let's play from there well during the course of both halves here we'll be getting the thoughts of Pat fenland and Keith Tracy will'll get them in very very shortly uh popping up a free just a few moments ago for a foul on Jack greish H the booze here's Harry Kane who's h on the verge of winning his 100 C for England it's cap 99 today for Harry Kane so it'll surely come on Tuesday against Finland at Wormley for Harry Kane so the narrative around that game will be all about a Kane the Centurion here's brish on it just inside his own half now he's inside the Irish half and he strides forward being tracked all the way by Jason malumi out to this miror side to cwell and now Anthony Gordon sends it back kab Manu for Dean rice and the JS once again Alexander Arnold in the wide right position for England who just slow it down and work it into a Central Area K Manu who of course scored the winning goal for Manchester United in the FA Cup Final against City at the back end of last season here's Jack greish cutting inside into a central position lovely little flick layoff there by Anthony Gordon still with greish on the edge of the Irish area and Gordon will send it back to cwell and now Kobe Manu with an opportunity to turn and perhaps try and threaten Republic of Ireland in the end Sami smic who was back defending just stretched out his Boot and directed it back it wasn't a back pass as such so it's gathered In The End by pleaseing color let's bring in the pat F and Pat your early Impressions here yeah it's been decent enough start from from Orland I think I think one of the problems we're having is that Jack raish is is drifting into this you know lefts side of position and he's he's enti some mity to go in half from and leaving Gordon One V one uh with with chamus K which has given us a bit of a problem at the moment but it's been a decent enough start that chance we had two good chances two headers as well mumia should score for us and definitely Harry Kan should score for England Harry McGuire for England on halfway out to cwell on the S side and greish will send it back to cwell and Harry McGuire takes a touch or two under no pressure whatsoever and Maguire just rolls a short pass to cwell on England's left hand side westand side at the Ava Stadium Mardy got something on him now Jason malumi driving forward feeds It Wide Samy smage on the edge of the area gets his shot away P makes the save of Benny with the follow up the angle difficult AG Ben just slows it down D's demanding the ball Matt Dy receives and Matt Dy try to thread his way through jack greish back defending he goes down and the referee says play on and eventually it's gathered by Jordan pford yeah that was better from Marland Matt Dy putting pressure on Jack GES on the halfway line and there's that quick transition when we win the ball back two three passes we on the edge of their box schic does well comes on the inside decent enough safe and pick but unfortunately Ben couldn't kill the ball out with his for touch and the opportunity went well here is an opportunity Anthony Gordon inside the Irish area good save but cing Keller needed to be Gordon is still there inside the area back for Kane Kane pulls the trigger and it's Deon rice and he scores High into the roof of the net no celebration from rice but England make the Breakthrough and it's a bullet of a finish from Dean rice earland behind oh it's a brilliantly executed goal Adrian we speak about getting the ball come back to front and not over complicating the game well England certainly didn't over complicate it there it was an angle we spoke about it already that diagonal ball over to Anthony Gordon on this occasion he's made a wonderful run drove into the space inside Sheamus Coleman lack of communication there between him and Nathan Collins it's a good save from Quan Keller but they keep the ball alive Anthony Gordon doesn't panic there's a cut back to H Harry Kane great block from Nathan Collins but Dean Roy is gambling he travels into the box he's backing up the play it arrives on his foot about 12 12 yards out level with the penalty spot it's a really calm controlled finish from him almost into the top Corner no chance for Que in there fourth International goal for England for daan rice that uh has silenced the Aviva Stadium to some extent with the Irish fans will get behind the team once again but notable too that zon rice refused to celebrate as he ran away towards the England fans at the havlock square into the ground he just had the arms down saying I'm not going to celebrate this but uh obviously Delight for the English fans England in front leading by one goal to nil how does this change the Irish mindset oh a mistake on the edge of the area it's picked up by small B AR looking for a free Kick the referee has the whistle to his mouth and he's going to take action here against kab Manu and it's a yellow card so he's the second English player to be a carded in the match cobby menu joining Jack brish in the referee's notebook it's unlike M who technically he's very good his first touch got away from him at the edge of the box and Ro the Ben feet then was a panic tackle from man who isn't the strongest defensively gives away plenty of those free kicks during the course of 90 minutes the referee on the right thing there wasn't OB his Advantage get the free kick in a really great position maybe 22 yards out just left the center likes a will small Bound in particular Robbie Brady might fancy this even off his left left hand side but Maro set up for small bone I'd imagine from this position yeah small bone will small bour of Southampton who started all three of their Premier League games albe it it's been a pretty Rocky start by the Saints in the Premier League he's over the dead ball so to is Robbie Brady England have the wall set up and they have of course a player lying prone on the ground to defend it if the wall jumps and the attempted free kick is low so Brady and small bone in consultation at the moment Jordan pford just checking his angles at the moment we're in the 14th minute England with that early breakthrough Deon rice on target Republic of Ireland nil England one smallbone and Brady looks like there's about five in the England wall and now they've been joined by Baya Saka at the instruction of uh Jordan Pigford who wanted an extra body in there in fact he's just On The Fringe at the wall on the right hand side so Brady or small bone with the set pce terrific Atmos here but England in front Full House at the Aviva and it's going to be Robbie Brady straight into the wall malumi perhaps at the followup while they got in each other's way Robbie Brady and Jason malumi and now trying England trying to break quickly with Dean rice striding forward Ireland a little stretched here it's rice with Gordon to his left hand side he feeds it to Anthony Gordon Gordon with the pullback looking for Harry Kane great save by Keller once again well that's another big moment from queing Keller England on the break Kane deny brish now beated into a Central Area rice and now sacka trying to pull the trigger left of the shot is blocked away all defending very stly and now Sami on the break sends it forward looking for alamida but gei will get there first he goes to ground and the referee sound this whistle and uh well thought he was away but the referee has awarded the decision in favor of England but what a save by keeping P there to deny England oh we got our away with one there Adrian two players getting each other's way on the edge of the box within count of five six seconds England they on the edge of our Penalty Box Gordon does great just slides the ball across the six-yard box it looks as if harricane has to score opens up opens up his body just to pushing it into the back of the net weaving K's quick off his line spreads himself makes himself as big as possible and makes the save it's fantastic save I mentioned earlier Kenny there was all this talk about queing Keller perhaps moving clubs during the course of the summer he has decided to stay at Liverpool he's been top class so far in the match so far very little he could do about the goal scor by Deon rice but do you feel he needs to move on to just from an Irish International perspective I don't think so to be honest with you know I think at the moment he's our number one I don't think that changes for me regarding whether he's playing weekend H or week out seems to maintain a high level of consistency whether he's playing regularly or not so at the moment for me he's got the jersey and he keeps it Mari in bession for England who lead at the Aviva Stadium by one goal to nil Harry MaGuire inside the center circle on this bright sunny evening in Dublin England leading by one goal to nil Sheamus Coleman and Jack Gish a little coming together which results in a foul committed by the Killy begs man on Jack greish Gish who of course uh played at underage level for the Republic of Ireland played GIC football with the John Mitchell's Club in warshire in England family with a very strong Irish tradition with roots in G in gway and sne and keran in Dublin as well but he's strikes me as the type of player who perhaps thrives on the the booze and jeers he gets as England tried to work it for but it's cut out by Queen Keller who was very much alert and on his toes there to come and collect at the edge of his penalty area yeah I think you're right aent kind of negative views directed towards H GRE and Deon Roy really going to have no effect on these players the experiences they are you're right really is probably rebeled in it all much rather to see the Irish fans be a bit more positive and get the behind the Irish team in that respect here's choak bny on the edge of the area cwell covered off that particular route it just almost fell invitingly for uh the Irish player to pull the trigger and England have regained possession once again sh out to cwell of Chelsea just his second International for England this evening back with Harry MaGuire Maguire with so much experience of course both with uh Manchester United and with the England his 64th cap this evening as uh the ball is laid back by KOB menu to gei and gei feeds it out to Trent Alexander Arnold the wide R position for England England now dictating the tempo of the game rice is on it and gets the return pass of course the two villains at the piece combining once again greish and delin rice greish back to Rice just on halfway and it's keep ball from England at the moment Maguire has the option to shift it on perhaps towards cwell and Anthony Gordon just drops in deep rice orchestrating for England out to that wide R position again picked up by Trent Alexander Arnold Alexander Arnold of course uh started really the European Championship Finals in the summer in Midfield as gett Southgate just tried to tweak things and eventually he fell out of the starting 11 of course came back to a great effect scoring the decisive penalty against Switzerland in the quarterfinals of the European championships and the summer just gone here's Anthony Gordon perhaps be a little bit frustrated that he didn't score from that opportunity that ultimately led to the Breakthrough for England it was a decent save from uh queing Keller but it was uh from his point of view he might have done a whole pile better he's looked sharp out being the supporters wanted to see he'd get more game time during the summer i' agree with that very explosive player and very direct Adrian doesn't over complicate the game take too many touches Lo to get on the ball and get it as man in 1 V one situations and get to the bo line we've seen that already in the open of 20 minutes of the game how effective he can be he only got a couple of minutes as a sub a late sub against Slovenia and apart from that he was on the bench for England in the finals in Germany as quing Keller sends it along downfield copy menu of Manchester United Challengers inside the center circle menu gets a toe to a small bone is just out foxed on that occasion and cwell will send it back to Harry MaGuire they're the ones who got a pick up Adrian a fight ball between Adam Eden gu who pops into Midfield got to be winning the majority those second balls Jas muman with a small bone in particular bit too easy there for man to get possession ball and win back possession for England and immediately were on the back foot again getting penned in I'll England have it once again Lee Cary I'm sure will be delighted with the way his side have started this match they lead by one goal to nil the goal scored in the 12th minute by Deon rice here's Jack brish about 35 me out from the Irish goal into a center position for Manchester United kobby menu Chris passing from England Harry Kane trying to thread his way through Harland have it back now with Jason malumi and malumi a very uh tigerish bear in the heart to the Irish Midfield as choak Beni moves it forward now to Adam e out to Matt Dy Matt Dy well he was just out guns by Trent Alex Arnold who had switched across from right to left England on the break we'll get the thoughts of ke Tracy very very shortly here's Anthony Gordon Gordon on the edge of the Irish area feeds it back to greish greish trying to threaten once again but it's broken up by Nathan Collins Kei Tracy part of our commentary team this evening Keith your thoughts of the match so far yeah I thought we started quite well Adrian Mal had that chance that he probably could have done a little bit better with but it came at him so quickly you can see why his reaction went quite on point but from an English point of view the opening 15 minutes or so they've created three gold and chances Kane has had a header just outside the sixy box should have done an off a lot better with Gordon's had a one-on-one and Kane had another opportunity so we've given up three huge opportunities in open 15 minutes of this game I think we can be quite thankful it's only one n but we're competing aent we're running around youve lots of Z lots of passion just need to calm down and try and find a little bit more quality on the ball y thoughts of Keith Tracy plenty of passion in evidence at the Aviva Stadium tonight the Irish fans in great voice just a little lull at the moment as Anthony Gordon goes forward to on England's left hand side cuts inside into a central position Harry Kane lays it off now to Jack Gish faced by small bone and Gish decides to turn away from goal Manu is on it now Mark gei Alexander Arnold in the uh white wing position for England the moment as Paya Saka sends it back to Gay and now Alexander Arnold of Liverpool Irish fans now trying to just lift the team England pressing once again a little bit slow well there's an opportunity for KOB menu on the turn on the edge of the Irish area out to Alexander arold back now with Deon rice 35 me out from goal in a central position again faced by Will smallbone defending for arand to do here trailing by one goal to nil Dean rice on the score sheet in the 12th minute gahi feeds It Wide now to cwell of Chelsea at the Gordon down the line Anthony Gordon lays it off to Jack G who was a tricky enough ball to deal with it breaks away from the English player now Ireland on the Counterattack with Jason malumi right hand side and malumi with an opportunity perhaps to measure up across checks back and rolls it to chid Doak Benny Matt Dy just behind him choak Benny with Jack relish facing him and he gives it away and Ireland almost in trouble Harry Kane has been fail and it'll be a free kick halfway inside the English half for the challenge by Smallville on Harry Kane yeah it was a shame that one back the ball in Center Midfield spoke about that was 50/50 was a w one there immediately play the ball over the top Jas mumi driving out at Central Midfield position down the right hand side Channel actually had an opportunity aging to put the ball into the box was a 2v2 situation in there he didn't check back as soon as he checked back and played the ball back as he just felt the opportunity was lost eventually give the ball away in small small Bound Again gives away the free kick well that's a huge evening for hir Paul Grimson the New Ireland manager and equally so of course for Lee carsley arguably the pressure more on carsley given that England are expected to win and of course they'll be expected to say or to play Rather with a a certain style and a certain approach that brings its own pressures he's gone with the tried and trusted in terms of experience and so far they haven't let him down but well have had a a couple of more goals arguably in the match so far of course Aron with that early opportunity for Jason malom Le Car he capped 40 times by the Republic of arand Al the who had last night over whether or not he would sing the uh the anthem God Save the King he says he he never has because of course he's immers in football and once the football is about to get underway he's very much in the zone in terms of his mental approach and he's an awful singer Town death well you can perhaps testify to that because he shared a dressing room with him what was he like in the dressing room what kind of player in terms of what he brought to the dressing room was he yeah quite a private lad very quiet good sense of humor uh Adrian very popular within the dressing room but quite a private individual I'd say you that never played with him at Club level only at International level but was a real qu team player very popular what would you have for so going into coaching not necessarily to be honest with you know lads who played with my club level have said that they weren't surprised at all but I can say that kind of stood out H from the time that I spent with him H in the international setup now oh copy menu had possession just his 10th International appearance here's Jack greish perhaps in some people's eyes surprisingly omitted by gett Southgate for the European Championship Finals during the course of the summer kbby Manu once again back to Harry Kane about 25 me out from the Irish goal and now Dean rice slips it on for gahi on England's at right hand side and now an opportunity for Baya Saka inside the area trying to tear it up for Deon rise and Sami schmage got back to spare Ireland's blushes there in the mick of time because England almost managed to carve their way through but smage man to defend that situation England though have possession once again and they're beginning to really dictate now Kenny yeah looking a bit t a lot of works and SMS in particular Ben doing a lot of work there I think it's important one of our back three is prepared to step out into Midfield we can't be playing 5v3 across our back line that's put too much responsibility it's too much work right on the rest of the players think Dar and Shane mman in particular got to be prepared to step out into Midfield get the extra player there to try and win back a bit more possession hard up the pitch but it's England to have it once again with Dean rice out to Alexander Arnold the exchanges passes with Paya Saka England controlling the ball at the moment kab Mayu off to Dean rice was a lovely little give and go and it's heat up for Jack relish it's 2N to England and it's the old Irish boys who've done the damage on the double rice after 12 and now Jack relish it's 2-0 to England in the 26th minutes oh this is absolutely brilliant football agan forget about who scored the the goal the link up play before that some of the combination play was absolutely wonderful we've got plenty of players uh in a defensive position go side of the ball but they work the ball that quickly so cleverly so precise with their pass in England and then greish wasn't an easy finish at the end of it really precise into the corner net Kobe Mayu and Dean Royce getting themselves out that deep Midfield position R driving in behind the Oreland defense and then not panicking getting his head up little onew attack on the outside of the box one touch cut back to greish just kind of side footed into the bottom of the net it's a really well thought out goal from an England perspective minori perspective obviously it's the opposite from a defensive point of VI you got enough players there you got to be switched on passing Information Tracking Runners Etc but giv England credit that was a high quality goal from start to finish Pat Finland it's a tough task for Ireland now oh absolutely is with you know we've been dominated we're lucky that still only two to be fair they've had so many chances but what a goal that is H Gish and Roy probably wrote that script before the game was brilliant play from England in leing we got cop chasing chasing the ball instead of Runners but it's a brilliant play it's a brilliant pullback from Roy an absolutely brilliant finish from greatest but been different class England so far and that's what it is the difference of classes for everyone to say that just got so many good players and we're at the moment chasing shadows and we just make sure need that this doesn't get little bit ugly on us yeah the side right fourth in the world leading by two goals Anthony Gordon striding forward he's buffer it goes over looks at the referee and he'll get the free kick it's a free kick halfway inside the Irish half Harry Kane just having a word with the referee Jose Maria Sanchez from Spain but it will be a free kick to England and uh they got the decision but Harry Kane nevertheless having uh an exchange of views let's put it that way with the match official just a big concern AG in quite of terms of are setup when we go kind of commit players high up the pitch say our front treace Medics and agbon in possession even out possession when we push them up the pitch and England play through that initial press it's an awful lot of space either side of small bound and Jason mumbia playing as a paired in central Midfield but there's kind of 30 40 yards either side of them between them and the touch line England kind of exploit those spaces kind of greish aain kind of drifting into those areas getting the ball and very quickly getting there at our back five jaish Under Pressure here from Sheamus Coleman right in front of the English Dugout he goes over and uh Sheamus Coleman almost uh shaking hands there with Lee Cary he was that close to him as he shephered jack relish away from uh the field to play and greish went over there was a little push there from Sheamus col but not a a whole lot in it England have possession once again they has resumed and it's with that Dean rice out of The Far Side the ball moved Now by by England out to calwell on this near side of the pitch just 21 years of age as the ball is sent back by Matt Dy to queing Keller he just guided the ball back cleared away as far as gahi and gahi does well to step away from The Challenge and G of Crystal Palace off to Harry MaGuire Maguire halfway inside the England half off to kabby Manu and England controlling possession they lead on the scoreboard by two goals to nil ton rice and Jack guish with the goals and as Pat said you couldn't have scripted it could you Kenny but those two would get the goals now this is what I'm talking about that was players such quality such such experience kind of good temperament the kind a bit of negativity that was coming their way agan before the game has no effect on them just kind of bounces off them Gish and particularly you feel as if he's going of relish in this role the kind of responsibility Le cars he's given him today he's not being restricted to a on a left wing position as we see in Manchester City he's been allowed to drift across the pitch into the wide areas into the little pockets on the inside he's really enjoying himself and look at saying a lot of space in those areas of the pitch in behind do Ben and SMS down that side of the pitch England having a little bit of more than a little bit of Joy having a lot of joy in fact well pressure here for Robbie Brady from uh the Kaya Saka the ball breaks halfway inside the Irish half and will spalone Happy Just Launch it forward it's cut out by Trent Alexander Arnold and now kab Manu in possession for England England controlling the tempo dictating matters at the moment leading by two goals to nil their Bank of fans away to our left hand side really enjoying this as the ball is slid through by Alexander Arnold but straight through to the Irish number one queing ker Gavin bazunu of course not available he's out injured at the moment so Mark Travers who's really Under Pressure now at Club level at Bournemouth like uh quing Keller who hasn't figured at Liverpool Travers struggling to get a look in at Bournemouth following the signing of ke laga Max Oli is the third Irish goalkeeper involved for the Irish setup Ireland of course taking on Greece here on Tuesday night that game will be live on game on but Ireland at the moment two- nil down against England and that's second goal scored by Jack Gish the uh atmosphere despite the concession of the goal to Dean rice in England was still pretty vibrant but uh it's just sucked the atmosphere out of the occasion and England nudging the ball forward down that right hand side and now Alexander Arnold Alexander Arnold to take on Nathan Collins Collins sticks to his guns and the ball goes out of play the last touch came off the Liverpool right back and it's a goal kick for Ireland yeah it' be interested in How the Irish manag management team sees this at halftime don't particularly think this formation's working for us today with the back five AG feel as if we one short though Central and wide Midfield areas like to see is maybe think about a back four at halftime even if it's a kind of 433 getting extra man into Midfield I think probably Shamus has had his most difficult 30 minutes in nor Jersey I've got to be honest which it's been a struggle for him KN and a little bit as well on his recovery speed I don't think that that the balance looks right in that kind of back three so interesting to see how we see the halftime we're tw0 down you know we have to stop at this Avalanche of England attacks and somehow look to get back into the game I think it may be a change of tactic might Su us a with the cross into the area arida with the header trying to guide it goward the angled header though goes well wide in the end a little more encouragement there for the Republican irand but it was uh well a pretty tame header in the end yeah it was done the right thing thought he could have played Matt D in a bit early had M Matt on his overlap could have played him in didn't took the extra touch still a decent enough ball Adam is coming away from goal Adrian there never an easy head of that doesn't make great contact with the ball so England leading by two goals to nil at the Aviva Stadium Jordan pford about to restart the game Big F made his debut for England back in 2017 he he's a kind of goal keeper at times can he he divides opinion A lot of people are fans and others he can be a little bit erratic at times that he's prone to the odd ER yeah I'm not a huge fan ad got to be honest with you the fact that he's been England number one for so long probably the indication that they haven't been the strongest there in that area the pitch England decent enough shot stoer alloy but he is erratic I don't like his emotional state I'll be I'll be honest with he gets too wound up at times for me always playing the blame game pointing the people like to see the keepers a bit more calm and composed here go England once again Harry Kane through the middle inside the the area it breaks to Gordon and Gordon's shot well that just uh ended up in the arms of cling Keller the shot the sting taken out of it hurry Kane perhaps had a a shout for a penalty no great claims from the England bench you'd have to say and it stays at 2-n get a little bit too easy there is contact there from Dar not enough for me to war the penalty thought maybe Anthony Gordon should have done better when the ball came out to him but again just a little bit of concern England not having to work too hard to get the ball into Kane's feet there inside the box Harry MaGuire in possession for England Strokes it out to this near side picked up by Levi calwell back with Harry MaGuire Lee carsy watches on he won his first irand cap back in 1997 his debut against Romania that was in uh qualifying for the World Cup finals in France and of course he was part of the Ireland Squad at the 2002 World Cup finals made one appearance that was against Saudi Arabia the 3-0 victory over Saudi of course we all remember Damien do and the the bow after the goal here's D rice out to Alexander Arnold and Arnold just watching England controlling the ball at the moment forward by Harry MaGuire inside the center circle Alexander Arnold off to Mark gahi and Mark gahi to Harry MaGuire and he feeds it on in turn to this near side for cwell here's that Jack Gish who's been very influential so far in the match apart from the goal for England and I asked you before the kickoff were you surprised that Gish was left out of the squad for the Euros during the course of the summer now it wasn't surprised adri because it's such a bad year in terms of injuries game time that he missed but I'm a huge fan of him it's like his technical level you know he's so good he protects the ball so well which we know is kind of Paramount International Football now he's always available even in toy areas with your player in possession you're looking up the pitch you never see his number agent always wants the ball even the most tight theity is protects the well probably it is a criticism he say his final product not so much today he's got himself a go but he can do that more work hard to get into into into the opposition Penalty Box and get himself more goals he's certainly capable Anthony Gordon picks it up for England as he attempts to take on Matt Dy Ireland with a lot of Defending to do England with possession once again greish for Anthony Gordon on the left wing slips it in now for saaka attempting the pull back it's blocked by Nathan Collins and small bone inside the panal here manages to dig out a clearance and sends it downfield it'll be retrieved by Mark G choak Ben might have well have had his run checked by Levi Carwell but the referee is happy to allow play continue and England have it with Dean rice inside the center circle he opened the scoring after 12 minutes added to by Jack greish who's on it for England once again gah to his right hand side and he's got the option now of picking out Trent Alexander ARA just inside the Ireland half right hand side of the pitch if floats the ball over the top Deon rice had made the advanced run inside the area and it's put out for a corner kick by Dar Shay England with the corner interesting to see how many of those forward runs Dean Royce has made today generally speaking in English Jersey he's the one who disciplines himself to sit behind the ball Mayu generally the one who gets himself involved a little bit higher hasn't been the case today they've D tailed really nicely Mayu comeing short that's been the trigger for Dean Roy just to open his legs at times and run 20 30 yards a high speed like he did then in behind the orang defense wins another corner for England will bring in Kei Tracy very very shortly but first Ireland have this set piece this corner kick on England's right hand side to defend not too much moving inside the area small bone and on Benny trying to defend Jason malumi defends the corner at the near post smic trying to clear it down the line ball sent forward now towards Matt Dy but kop menu will take charge for England Kei Tracy it's a a tough Old Situation hir H Grimson and his team from themselves in training by two goals to nil what have you made of it so far yeah it's a very very daunting task now two n down we're chasing shadows out there we think the English have had 80 80 odd per possession of the ball the more Waring thing from an oand point of view as our leg seem to have gone we're not quite getting up to the ball anymore that's probably because we've been slapped on the race we gave up so many big opportunities already we're trying to get after the English they've been gone through as like a knife through butter at times the Midfield roce May out the interchanging Trent Alexander Arnold popping in there Gordon doing the same Harry Kane popping in Roy now finds himself on the right wing you just haven't been able to deal with it whatsoever and in the fullback positions Brady and dty really struggling as well with how explosive both English Wingers have been so approaching halftime about 7 minutes to go to the break irand 2-0 down in the first half live coverage on an extended Saturday sport in R Radio 1 Anthony Gordon closes in on cev Kell he managed to get it away only as far as Trent Alexander Arnold England tried to threaten once again with Paya Saka on the right hand side Deliverance across towards Harry Kane Keller got a block to it it'll eventually be cleared Away by Matt Dy back defending but again a scary moment for the Republic somewh there que think he might have taken a knock Adrian got to be honest with he landed a bit awkwardly there but he had to come again good pressure from England we won back possession initially went back to Sheamus Coleman the next pass from Sheamus I felt had to be forward he didn't he went straight back to queing car that encourage Gordon to go and press the Irish goalkeeper who was rushed a little bit cleared the ball but went straight to Alexander Arnold and seconds later with defending across into the box he thought he done well qu in to come he was needed just fell a littleit off but he kind of twisted his body as he was gone midair a little bit not too sure if he's putting his hand up there for the trainer he's injured a little bit wait see so then England with a free kick it's about 45 M out from goal left hand side of the pitch and it's it's the right back of England who will take it Trent Alexander Arnold so plenty in the white of England to aim at inside the penalty area including Mark gahi and Harry MaGuire the big Central Defenders who got for for this free kick to be taken by Alexander Arnold super delivery of a ball generally speaking then I put the the hex on him there as it sails behind and the target the attended recipient was Harry MaGuire but much too high from Alexander Arnold and it's a goal kick for arand and the restart made by Clen ker set fors by Sheamus Coleman up towards halfway but England have it back once again very quickly kobby Mayu Mayu very stylish in possession just 19 years of age Jack relish just spins away from trouble on that to Deon rice they've done the damage as far as Ireland are concerned in the first half with those two goals trying to threaten down the right hand side once again with MAA Saka back to Alexander Arnold and Alexander Arnold with the diagonal switch looking for Anthony Gordon but again too high and that goes behind just look as if we've lost a bit of confidence we've been knocked a bit uh Adrian understandably so maybe in and out possession there Shamus was leaving the ball off qu outside a six-yard box never felt as if he had a clear picture what he wanted to do eventually just obviously hit the ball from back to front four yard ball straight to hary mcor's head and obviously England win back possession this can happen a little bit you know you you lose a little bit of confidence well Ken Keller with the kick out downfield MET by the head of Mark gahi one in the air for Ireland by Jason malumi small bonus on to it arand now trying to Fashion something before halftime they need to try and get back into the match if they can at all here's choak Ben of hi switch town now joining a whole cluster of Irish players operating for IP switch these days including Dar and Sami smic who also joined the Portland Road outfit Jason mumia West BR jalian feeds It Wide opportunity for Robbie Brady to deliver the cross appeals for hand ball against the defending Baya Saka referee is playing an advantage in favor of England here they're on the counter as Jack rishu is breaking swiftly right through the heart of the Irish defense out to Harry Kane inside the area and Kane with the left footed shot and that's a brilliant block by Sheamus Coleman and again arand looking a little tread be defensively yeah it's too early the problem isn't across the defensive line there it's that holding Central Midfield area Saka wins back the ball at the edge of the Box they just get through as too quickly up the pitch will small bound has got himself ahead of the ball Jason malum is kind of hold them back but he's too much space to cover and very quickly England travels 6070 yards up to the edge of their box Jack relish without anybody laying a glove on him that can't happen so then three minutes to go to halftime Trent Alexander Arnold to take this England corner on their left hand side and he's H taking uh well certainly taking his time all the time in the world as he strolls over last few minutes of the first half Arland can ill afford to concede a third before the break as Alexander AR prepares to take this corner kick England fans in the havock square into the ground watching on they've enjoyed the first half I would imagine watching those two goals fly into the back of the Irish net in the opening period so Alexander Arnold with Anthony Gordon dropping short to receive but Alexander Arnold will send it in it's flat towards the near post cleared away only as far as greish just outside the Irish area feeds it out to England's left hand side for Anthony Gordon Alexander Arnold in support but greish is the option available to Anthony Gordon of Newcastle United oh and greish has toughed up possession he got brother got caught in two mins there Jason malumi and kobby Manu with coming together and malum is absolutely insens with the referee the play continues Alexander Arnold on England's left hand side Eng with plenty in white committed forward here and in the end the ball is cleared Away by Collins for the Republic of irand Nathan Collins doing well and now J Doak Benny on AR's left hand side driving forward still he goes He digs it towards the back post it's just a shade too high and it'll be retrieved here by Samy smic smic has swwa wings temporarily at least with Ben but the cross is delivered by Matt Dy cleared away only his far sh as Coleman 35 me out from goal he's only ever scored one international goal for the Republic now Robbie Brady to deliver the cross and it's flicked Away by Mark gy and Anthony Gordon is there to pick up for England and Gordon checks away from smage and will roll it back and while s smic just left something on Anthony Gordon and that'll be a freak it'll also mean a yellow card for Sami smic that was a great counter attack from Oreland and give Nathan Collins a bit of credit he one back possession his own Penalty Box would have been very easy for him just to hoof that ball 50 yards up the pitch but he didn't he got his head up and he picked out OG Ben driving out from the leftand side got himself in a 1 V one situation where Mayu fancied himself and rightly so drove the England midfielder into the box got Beyond them just over hit the cross unfortunately we're looking to get a few players H in there just an indication there you can be effective on the counter attack even from deep inside your own half Adan when you win the ball back you got to have to compos to get your head up and pick out those players smodic and NG Ben E on the counter attack we haven't done it too often but that was a good example how effective you can be Manu off to Mark gei England's right hand side and now it's back with Jordan pford first meeting of these two Nations back in 1946 at D Man Park England winning by one goal to Ireland have only managed to record two wins in the history of this fixture 1949 when they famously won a goodison park by a couple of goals to nil con mark from the penalty spot and Peter far the scores that day for Ireland of course he I mentioned stutgart 1988 and who put the ball in England net and all of that those are two wins and at the moment though it's England who are on course to win here still 45 minutes plus of football to go one additional minute be played at the end of the opening half here but England King them very much in the driving seat yeah they busted this game after the probably opening 10 minutes of the game we started well kind of fed off the energy of the crowd I thought Adrian but soon as England kind of settled into the game found a bit of Rhythm to their pass and yeah they've really kind of dominated and as I've said just the confidence just kind of drained out the team a little bit as the as the half has gone on it's been a tough watch read the last kind of 15 20 minutes like I said I think the manager needs to change something uh at halftime I think he needs to get an extra body into Midfield at the very least sacrifice one of that back for a five and just kind of reinforce that Central Midfield area just give us a bit more solidity that's where England having getting a bit of Joy either side the small bound and malumi Gordon coming in off the flanks gr is kind of drifting around that area they're getting little overlo that Central Midfield there we need to rectify that there you go it is halftime at the Aviva Stadium it all started in fiery fashion for the Republic of Ireland but the Irish passion well and truly snuffed out goals from Dean rice and Jack Gish in the opening Peri it means at halime it's Republic of irland nil England 2 all thanks to Kenny Cunningham and to Adrian Ames Pat fenland ke Tracy alongside me an awful lot for the Irish management team to reflect upon at halftime and probably quite a bit that needs to be tinkered with yeah H the first thing I think they'll be saying is we're going to need another ball out there because we just haven't been able to get the one that the English are playing with they've just monopolized it our midfielders malumi in small bone they're supposed to be holding midfielders but when England get the ball they're springing out one is springing out the other is following it's too flat at times D and Brady are having awful times in one V one battles but the one thing that's really no but for me Daman is we're being counterattacked the second goal for England we have a free kick on the edge of the English box it hits the wall Robbie Brady then makes a bit of a mixup with malumi both of them swinging it the English counter attack and scored a goal against us and these things for me are totally totally avoidable I know he want to be open and play a bit of football but one thing we cannot do is Con see three big chances against a team like in the opening 15 minutes and expect to give them a decent game of football we have to be defensively more solid than that we have to be better on the ball when we do have it but when we have had it with just little glimpses that we might be able to do something at the opposite end but defensively we look all over the place do you expect changes I expect changes I'm looking at the bench and where we where we're where we're really struggling is that Midfield area I'm just wondering who comes in there I just I I'm trying to work it out because the two midfielders we have in there need them being look like they're being designated to sitting there it's already having passion and running around and trying to get after people but Jason's got to be disciplined you run around trying to kick people at the moment TR like we got to be disciplined he is right the amount of times they broke away from from sort of air their 18 yard box and the first player they meet in the last in Jack re has traveled 60 hours of ball the first player he meets is the center half we don't have a cental midfielder there and it's happened too many times in the game we said this before about Oreland as well that we're not good enough to play with one we've talked about playing with two we don't have any today playing against the top top team they're giving us serious problems in the wide areas cuz what they doing really well and even Royce on the right hand side is overloading down that side Gish coming out to this side overloading the pitch leaving Gordon with Sheamus coming all day long and as the last thing Sheamus wants to do is run you know be one V one with with Gordon he's been different class G's been different class but they're overloading in them white areas and giving us all sorts of problem listen the two wide players for England are fantastic players but that's where you got to be disciplined maty for me hasn't enough Neer defensively it's giv up the G at times not chasing back not running back to get back into that position it's been really really poor from world I have to be honest how good England are being wey and terrible yeah it's been a a difficult first half to reflect upon we will chat more to the lads in due course second half commentary to come stay with us Saturday sport on RTE Radio 1 back to school back to activity February owning an XL Bully Dog without a certificate of exemption will be banned and that's all from The Newsroom for now hello and good evening from met and Rebecca canwell here with your latest weather update so we're set to see a bit of a change in our weather from tomorrow with some breezier and cooler conditions on the way but first it'll continue bright and dry this evening for most although cloudier conditions will continue to affect some Midland and Southern counties as we move into the night most areas will remain dry under broken Cloud however a little showery rain may arrive into some West and Northwest areas we're in for another mild and humid night with lows of 12 to 15° Sunday then will be a cooler cloudier and breezier day than we've experienced over the last few days with a few light showers possible mainly across the West and Northwest highs of 14 to 19° tomorrow in fresh and Gusty Northwest winds and then looking ahead to next week temperatures look to fall back to the low to mid teens with a mix of showers and some Sunny spells on the way now that's the forecast have a lovely [Music] evening Saturday sport on RTE Radio 1 [Music] at ESB we're investing over 1 saport RTE Saturday sport on RTE Radio 1 and you're very welcome back to the Ava Stadium Republic of Ireland trailing England by two goals to nil in their UEFA Nations League game Dean rice and Jack relish with the English goals pment have been beaten in their Champions League first round qualifier knocked out there Britney aren has finished fourth in the women's up to 79 kg final in the paralympic six in the power power lifting and Eddie Dunbar has won today's 20th stage of LTA to move up to 11th Place overall this is Daman Omar in the company of Keith Tracy and Pat fenland um PT there doesn't appear to be any Personnel changes on the way looking at the the players as they're doing their kick about at halftime so there's a massive need for an Irish maybe mental reset and a restructuring of how we're going to go about this because England let's be honest they got the second goal and they they put the hand breake on to an extent yeah I think we definitely need to get an extra midfielder in there unless he's thinking about changing the shape of the team as it is I'm not sure he can doal that Robbie Brady may be moving on sm's moving inside one but probably Jason O probably would have been W and then it's probably a choice of come and a dir for me to change and you're the one that need to give a bit more he hasn't enough been bullied a little bit but the two big lumps but he hasn't he hasn't put himself a he hasn't held the ball up for us enough as well hasn't got a lot of great service but he needs to be better uh Keith we spoke before the game like nobody was getting carried away predicting an Irish Victory here but like we need to get this in order because if england turn it on again like we we could be very quickly in damage limitation situation we could be and I I haven't really liked the shape the the back five playing has got too flat too often and the four in front of that have been really really narrow and a Benny end up with the graveyard shift the English Midfield with The English Center halves are just able to Wick it out to the wing and then an Benny has a 20 yard run backwards and all of a sudden England are camping us into our own half so it's been really really difficult at the minute nobody expected us to go and win this but I did expect us to compete a little bit and again the woring thing is the English haven't got out with second gear yet okay and we have the two teams back ready to go with small bones set to get the game underway second half commentary comes from Kenny and Adrian cheers Damen and it will be small bone as Ireland play towards the half Square end of the ground in the second half a lot of the Irish supporters still out around the terare getting their drinks and burgers and maybe some of them queuing for 40 minutes Kenny looking for fish and chips as you referenced earlier but they'll be back very shortly so still a good few empty seats at the moment but winning your first game in charge of the Republic of Ireland isn't easily done getting a positive result is uh the aim of the game and certainly the last six Arland managers managed positive results in their opening games in charge of the Republic Steven Kenny with a draw against Bulgaria in his first match Mick McCarthy in his second term managed a win against jalter al be at a narrow One one- n away from home against jalter Martin O'Neal started with a 3-0 victory over Alfia in a friendly play here at the Ava stadium jvan trapon with a draw in his Opening match in charge of Ireland that was against Serbia in May 2018 and Steve stt and before that in 2006 a friendly here at L down Road a 3-0 win with Mr Duff and Mr Robbie Keane and the late and sadly much Miss Lee Miller on target that day before that Brian Kerr won his Opening match a 2-n victory over Scotland at hamton Park but then Mick McCarthy lost his Opening match in his first period in charge that was a 2-0 defeat to a rush all those years ago and Jack Charlton incidentally also lost his first in charge of the republ of arand back in 1986 a 1-nil defeat to Wales with Ian Rush scoring England leading here at the moment by two goals to nil against hir Hall gamson's Ireland side as the corner for England is swung in towards the back post and perhaps it appeals for England for a penalty kick for H Maguire who goes over inside the area we do have bar in operation of course at the Aviva Stadium but uh nothing doing there and Harry MaGuire imploring the referee but the referee from Spain Jose Maria Sanchez is happy to allow play proceed Ben has got to be very careful there he's one to one with Harry McGuire turns us back to the ball he's got his arms around Maguire don't get me wrong he's clever M he gets hold of Aon almost drags him to the floor but some referees could get Ked by that has to be careful there Ben maybe take a step away from m not get into such physical contact with him well so far so good for Lee carsley as England interim manager leading by two goals to nil and of course he'd be very much under scrutiny so important for him to start his reign with a win in Dublin and so far England going about it in the correct manner as the ball is sent forward up towards halfway cut out by Nathan Collins for Ireland here from Marque he seized upon by Ireland now Jason mumi malumi making his first appearance of the year after been out through injury a foot problem his last appearance and involvement with the Republic of Ireland back in November of last year queing CER swings it out to Ireland's right hand side picked up by the skipper Shamus Coleman here's malum on it once again facing his own goal so he sends it back to queing Keller who takes a touch despite the presence close by of quing ker sent forward towards chido Benny and picked up by Anthony Gordon for England and just ballooned downfield by Harry MaGuire who scored for England the last time these two Nations met back at Wembley in November of 2020 when England run out pretty easy winners by three goals to nil in those Co days and Maguire on it once again for England has gei to his right hand side they make of gei at the back for England he's quite impressive isn't he yeah he had had a great summer for England he's had it easy today hasn't been stressed too much the surprise agent we haven't made any even tinkered with the formation even to you're going to keep the back five even get an extra player in Midfield go with a narrow front three maybe a front two pairing I think that helps out small Bon and muman there gets an extra body there get a paing up front maybe SM to need it giv you a chance to get a bit more pressure higher up to stick stick with the same system which really struggled for the last 30 minutes of the first half does surprise me a little bit England haven't changed anything unsurprisingly played so well for majority of that first half amazingly the contrast there in terms of atmosphere now you could hear the pin drop couldn't you the open five minutes of the second half as opposed to the first yeah England on it once again playing the game almost at a leisurely Pace at times but it all breaks down Harry Kane was involved but it's Sami smic who comes away with it for now Robbie Brady the end line or the touch line and just on halfway he Strokes the ball forward and England to possession back once again and you mentioned the atmosphere really has changed marketly and those two first half goals really just uh let the air out of the balloon here's Alexander Arnold into kabby Manu on England's halfway line on the halfway line I should say back to Jack Rish and now Alexander Arnold to Dean rice and rice with a short pass he gets the return of kab Mayu and England just dictating the Irish fans one of two shouts of come on Ireland because it's been quite pedestrian from England at times they're just almost stationary and a static pose and eventually they inject some Cris passing into their forward approach now here's Baya Saka of Arsenal scored on the opening day of the season in the Gunner's two-nil win over wolver Hampton wanders so he's off the mark in the Premier League small bone commits The Challenge and it's an illegal one that results in a free kick in favor of England the challenge going in on Liverpool's Trent Alex for Arnolds yeah small bomb was the one frustrate again Tren coming into that on in h breed Midfield position just dropping the shoulder there getting small bone off balance and winning the free kick England pretty much picking up where they left off the end of the first half certainly so far so they have this free kick about 45 M out from goal maybe less it's in just well a right of Center position so Alexander Arnold will hang it up towards the back post aimed at Harry MaGuire gets his head to it back across the face of gold Jason got something on it to clear it away and Benny unable to retain possession for Ireland fed back out the field by Anthony Gordon and England start a prob and build once again On The Fringe of the center circle with Alexander Arnold rolls it out to this near Side West down side of the AA Stadium towards Deon rice but Ireland have it back now with daro Shay and now Robbie Brady has to look up and just a it downfield but it's very uh I say aim it's rather aimless and England have possession back targets no targets he's looking AIT bit of sorry for him there people say he's giv the ball straight back but he needs one one of that front three to work hard to get across the pitch and offer himself up for that ball down the side was a tough one for Robbie there he didn't have too many options here go England once again with d rice leading the charge and he feeds it out towards Anthony Gordon on the edge of the area Gish on the overlap his attempt across is blocked away initially by Matt Dy but England have it once again greish sends it back out now it's with kabby Manu Alexander Arnold available on on England's right hand side and eventually he's engaged by Robbie Brady small bom with a bit of a late one on kab Manu but no great malice in the challenge and England controlling the tempo and you can hear the frustration of the Irish crowd here as Anthony Gordon on England's left hand side is preparing to take on mat dard he moves the ball into a central position picked up by Baya Saka now kab menu to Deon rice and now shaping to inject more Pace into their attack eventually though it's tided up by Sheamus Coleman sends it back to quing ker who clears towards halfway but again nobody there for Ireland and it's brought under control initially by Harry MaGuire arand trying to get control once again CH Ro Ben doing really well the Parkman to weave away from danger and retains possession for AR back with Nathan Collins and Collins of brenford takes a touch but uh very few options available to him so now darl Shay pings it out to this near side on by Robbie Brady looking for the Run of smage and that will be seen behind for a goal kick by Mark gei and AR looking very disjointed at this point yeah looking very leggy heads are down very despondent that be the biggest problem at the moment do think they need a bit of help from the sideline in terms of a tweak even more than a tweak in terms of the formation you can see here again Orland the front three England playing out SMS in get themselves high up to pitching and just playing behind them great ball by Alexander Arnold to pick out aaya Saka England threatening once again down the right hand side it's Saka to take on Dar Shay and still Saka delivers the cross but cut out by Robbie Brady corner to England yeah just make the point Adrian Dar Medics is pressing High to the edge of the 18 a box for England so there space in behind them so the orish left wing back has to get up the pitch Robbie Brady has to leave his man boo Saka get 20 Ys hard up the pitch Engage The English fullback Trent Alexander Arnold daray has to slide across into an orthodox left back position otherwise the back five's getting pinned and SMX is just ended up running 30 40 yards back down the pitch trying to get back in contact with Trent Alexander Aron he can't do it ninth minute of the second half England with a corner kick to be taken by Laya Saka on their right hand side Lands Down Road end of the ground at the Aviva Stadium he gives the signal and Saka delivers it's a poor one towards the near post Adida got something on it this still might work out for England but Ben trying to carry a clear for Ireland faced by Deon rice threads it for du Ben but England have it back despite appeals for hand ball the referee eventually SS it whistle because there's an Irish player down inside the penalty Sheamus Coleman and the referee Jose Maria Sanchez has sounded a swistle which gives us an opportunity perhaps to call in Keith Tracy Keith yeah Adrian I don't think an awful lot has changed the English have just picked up where he left off at the end of the fourth half Robbie Brady again just getting that little bit too eager he wants to get close to sack once he makes that move towards him he just makes the opposite movement in behind him and Trent Alexander Arnold has the wonderful range of passing to be able to pick him out and the longer this goes the more you think the Irish are getting leggy they're running around chasing shadows and when we do win it back we've absolutely no options it's attack V defense at times while winning it back and just giving it back to the English it's just wave after wave of attacking I think a lot of a lot of talk has been where is this Irish team I think our eyes are open there levels to this game we levels and levels behind this english team yeah pass whil we have this break and play Pat fenland yeah just concerned as well with chimus at the moment he's the one down and he's holding that that leg he had problems with before so that would be a big blow for us as well but I think there has to be a change of the shape of the team we're just getting outplayed and out out out taught in that Midfield and you know there's there's obviously players are now coming across to the sideline there's plenty of talking going on with the orish coaching staff but it needs a change to the shape and even at the stage we're picking the ball up with the back and our forward players are so deep having to do that defend and and come back that we don't have enough option for our defended players to go and hit them early so for me we just need to get an extra midfielder in there and be nice and compact the're playing through us too easy at the moment of playing around us and you know it's it's Knight is probably the one that give give go in there gives a little bit of energy looks like maybe him and fergs and maybe the two that are going to come on but that might be a rethink of shames is is in trouble yeah certainly a couple of changes on the way it would appear for the Republic of Ireland Sheamus Coleman just back in action of course with Everton last weekend he started the game against dad Bournemouth it looks like Jake O'Brien will be on in Jason Knight very shortly but that's a real concern for obviously Sheamus Coleman on a personal level and indeed for Everton football club didn't seem to be a whole lot in us but he's limping away canny yeah must be bad you know shames not looking to continue on you know how much it means to him this jersey so yeah let's hope that's not too serious and get himself back involved at Club level very quickly because ever certainly going to need him this will be interesting though aor right Jake O'Brien Jason Knight coming on to the pitch not so much in terms of the Personnel certainly help having Jason on his energy his dynamism just in terms of the Tactical shape where we go back to a flat four now it'll be interesting to see so on goes Jake O'Brien from Y and County Cork is second International appearance and Matt Dy is the other player going off to be replaced by Jason Knight so Ireland making those couple of changes and they arrive 12 minutes after 12 minutes of the second half so uh Jake O'Brien having made the move to Everton he' be hoping to make the Breakthrough at Club level everon of course languishing at the foot of the Premier League they've endured a pretty tet start to the campaign cing up that two-nil lead last week against Bournemouth at goodison Park but sad to see Sheamus Coleman heading off hopefully he's back to full fitness very very soon this looks better to me I think we're keeping the back five intact do Ben is going to the right back right wing back position look at Jason Knight he's coming in tomorrow a narrow Midfield three it's going to help out small bone and Jason mum but it looks a bit that's what we're crying out for and smodic and Adam they going to go into an orthodox ront two I think SMU will enjoy that getting into cler closer proximity to Adam Ball sent forward in the direction of Adam with Nathan Collins who sent it forward and Nathan Collins has taken over the captaincy in the absence now Sheamus Coleman he's wearing the armband AR have possession once again the crowd just trying to well Rouse themselves and the team as it's sent forward to Robbie Brady back now with DAR OA and OA with a big switch out a terrific ball for Choi AG Ben Ireland's right hand side AG now to threaten here faced by Cowell the pull back to smage oh just wide oh that can't have been wide by very very much Sami smage made it so sweetly was a great ball in by chosak and now the crowd has come to life oh yeah far better great switch of play from Dar didn't say that for the whole of the first half that's one of his qualities 40 yard diagonal AG Ben high high position and that right wing back he played so often there for Lon he was very comfortable there took on cwell was a great little cutback similar to where gy scored from actually to smod who just checked his run actually tried to bend it inside the near post just couldn't quite execute it but far better from Orland well that's got the place going once again certainly the Irish fans the English supporters away to left hand side they've been while enjoying the Dublin sunshine this evening and they've witnessed two goals for their team England perhaps will now try to press on the other game by the way in this group this is group two in league b surprising of course that England are even now operating having been relegated from League a the other group game tonight sees Greece taking on Finland that game in pereus kicks off at 7:45 Greece of course the visitors to the Aviva Stadium on Tuesday for hair hson second game in charge of the Republic of Ireland the manager making the point in various previews that the gree game was the higher priority he expected a tough day against England and that's exactly what Ireland have received from the car's outfit leading by two goals to nil Alexander Arnolds with the ball from the outside of the right boot trying to just steer it on around the corner AG Ben back defending just drills it downfield high into the air lot of height on it met by the head of Harry MaGuire now Jack Rish far side of the the pitch sends it back to kabby man the ball eventually goes out of play and the decision goes in favor of the Republic of AR a throw in just shy of halfway we've hit the hour mark at the eviva stadium England leading by two goals to nil in this nation's lead game sent on by daray first time to pick out Robbie Brady Aron's left hand side Alexander Arnold trots across to engage with Robbie Brady forc to send it back to daray inside the arish half Jake O'Brien is square O'Brien who made the move from Leon in France to Everton during the course of the summer and now queing Keller feeds the ball out to Ireland's right hand side kept in play by the head of chido Ben up on by Jason Knight and now AG Ben puts the head down drives forward he's been caught by Carwell well the referee says no play on and England try to win it back or irland in fact have won it back and now smage inside the area the ball broke in his favor and malumi onto it from the edge of the area and he drills his shot High over the crossbar a second chance in the game for Jason malumi one in other half and this time he was well off targets yeah Jon feel he should have done better but better from Marland win back the ball high up o Ben again just puts it back into a danger area but that's the advantage of having two Central Strikers on the pitch Adam and smic inside the Box they arriv to defeated smes couldn't get his shot off back to goal he knew that got his head up and just fed the ball to Jason malum he was heading driving forward from that Central Midfield area doing exactly the right thing unfortunately just not good enough shot at the end of itaya Saka under pressure from Robbie Brady the Irish fans in sensed that the referee has a war of the free kick against Robbie Brady and in favor of Paya Saka it'll be a free for England just on halfway to be taken while D rice is going to leave it but England really quite leisurely just strolling around the pitch at the moment and it's Trent Alexander Arnold it is of course very early in the season I know you mentioned Kenny during the course of the first half some of the Irish players looking Ley but when you say Ley leggy how because it's already in the season you'd imagine players would be at Prime Fitness yeah well no no well generally speaking you're not a Prime Fitness there certainly not match Fitness at the edge of the at the start of the Season always felt took me about six weeks to get to that point where I where I was happy I think some of it can be psychological when you're kind of Los a bit of confidence in terms of what you're trying to do your head can get down your legs do feel a bit more leggier think that can be a mental thing I think we saw that first half as well look a little bit sharper now the orish players look a little bit happier in this system playing with a little bit more kind of confidence certainly look a little bit more secure Adrian out possession of the football ball like I said night alongside small bone and muman there we look a little bit more secure oh a loose one there by Trent Alexander Arnold smage is on to it but he's forced away from goal send it back to will smallbone small bone now for Jason malumi outside the England area the danger has a pass for now for England and in the end the cross from Sami smage it goes behind and that will mean a goal kick to England 63rd minute it's Republic AR nil England 2 yeah it just goes to show you e good players you put them under pressure inside their own Penalty Box strength Alexander Arnold there saw saw that a couple of times for England in the summer Alexander Arnold receiving the ball deep in his own half is back to goal not as H not as impressive as when he's receiving the ball in an orthodox fullback position facing up the pitch G white was there there was an opportunity SM un fortun just over hit the cross into the box Maguire for England heads up towards halfway as the Irish fans Tred to get the boys in green chant going Jack Gish he's been a little quieter in the second half but he's on it once again been H musle there by Jason mumi and the referee is Award of free Kick for the challenge by malumi on Jack Gish no great complaints really from malumi but it'll be free kick for England yellow card a in for half oh he wasn't just had a feeling I thought he might have been yellow card I couldn't quite remember obviously he hadn't he's just got the yellow card for that tackle there malumi just dragging on the short greish that was an easy decision for the referee yeah well he might well have been carage during the course the first half he wasn't but he was certainly at times walking a very fine line but it is a free kick for England on their left hand side halfway inside the Irish half England bossing this one leading by two goals to nil kabu sends it back to Harry MaGuire and Maguire takes a touch or two and then drills it right foot across field well that's poor from Harry MaGuire and it RS behind for an England goal kick or rather for an Irish goal kick I should say to be taken by Queen weaving ker so England leading by a couple of goals to nil obviously in England there'll be a great focus on League carsley Kenny what do you think the the general footballing public will make of the England performance so far still of course as you say early in the season it's about getting the job done but what what their takeaways be yeah absolutely I think I think I think he impressed people initially with a squad selection having the confidence to kind of promote some of those kind of younger players we worked with under 21 levels some years ago like some Morgan Gibbs White H Muk players like that haven't seen him from the start today but I think he's always had that attitude Le in terms of rewarding Youth and having confidence in younger players Angel Gomez I think he'll get a start Tuesday night as well and certainly first half performance he would have been very H pleased with so I think that's it performance levels matters because certainly England supporters weren't happy with those performance levels from the team during the summer it just wasn't good enough with the quality of player they have at their disposal particularly mid to forward areas of the pitch I'm talking about there so the challenge for Le even though in a short period of time over the next week or so we'll be just tapping into that getting getting to the right balance to the team which bet compliments those players and getting the very best out those players that we spoken about the likes of greish who's going to perform well today and Cole Perman in particular when he comes back in for selection fod and Bellingham Etc just kind of blending them into the right tactical formation that'll be his Challenge and really getting more out of these players from an attacking point of view that's out G was able to Well Jack Rish has been penalized as a free kick for Ireland on on the far side about 20 M inside the English half Robbie Brady will bend this one in left footed it's a decent ball in but nobody attacking it for Ireland and the ball Loops just over the crossbar in fact the Final Touch was to come off an Irish player it looked like Mar gay had got something on it but it goes behind and it will be in fact there was a some pushing going on inside the area and that means it'll be a relieving free kick for England and for Jordan pford of Everton two-nil it remains we're in the 67th minute at the Aviva Stadium we'll get the views of Pat and Keith very shortly as pford prepares to take the restart and he goes short to gahi who pings it up towards Deon rice just inside his own half but he's been outmaneuvered there by Will smallbone and now malumi driving forward to arland's left hand side met though by the challenge of Trent Alexander Arnold and now England have possession once again with gahi gahi forward now to Jack Bish and breish gets turned and drives up towards half way Gish out towards Baya Saka on this near side he had his heels clipped by Robbie Brady and there'll be a yellow card resulting for Brady oh feel sorry for Robbie there it's not easy aent easy to be critical of Robbie there you know taking down sacka but it's a brilliant Wing play from Saka just kind of dropping his shoulder putting his body we in his left side and opening his body up and taking it on his right foot totally get Robbie off balance has to take him out soal those situation Saka be right and left foot wants to go on his inside and Asian but very comfortable driving on your outside as well has that burst of pace over 5 10 yards High technical ability so difficult to deal with one V one situations well the view of Pat fernland to come just after this free kick for England which will be taken by Trent Alexander Arnold it's about 5 m in from the sideline halfway inside the Irish half on this near side of the pitch westand at the Aviva stadium and he floats it in and that should be an easy take for weaving cter that's precisely what it is it remains 2-0 Pat fenam yeah shape has been much better since the change I think that extra man in the middle has helped us sm's got closer as well the top end of the pitch I think what's helped us as well just C up possession oh and here's an opportunity perhaps for Kaya Saka on the edge of the area jaob Brian give it away a shot in the end from so he caused a problem in the fourth half with Gish with be gone wi now with Gordon but Nathan Collins is comfortable enough to go half fre at the at the time cuz he's not concerned about the face in behind cuz should be a to match it that was causes a big problem in the fourth half we seem to got the grips a little bit better in the second half that's Pat fenland been a yellow card issued to will smallbone I suspect by the referee and that particular English move ending with a save made by here goalkeeper cing ker from Anthony Gordon problem we had there a we're looking to play out from the back one of our Center halfes has going into a holding Midfield position jaob BR in this occasion he actually played it into his feet facing his own goal didn't looked overly comfortable and got the ball ball pinched off by Dean Roy just's got to be so careful in those situations ball sent back to pfur who drills it out to this near side but he was asking way too much of Trent Alexander Arnold and the ball goes out of play despite the best attempts of the Liverpool right back it'll be a throw in for Ireland halfway inside the English half to be taken by Robbie Brady and Brady just looking for options to become available Brady now 32 years of age playing with Preston North End these days and Brady under pressure from Dean rice manages to P it back in the direction of Dar but Harry Kane was there the referee again has spotted an indiscretion so it'll be a free kick for the Republic of irelander had the ball just gone out of play difficult to see from our Vantage Point there's another push going on there so it'll be a free kick for the Republic of Ireland and it's about a meter in from the sideline and about 20 M inside the English half and the referee making sure the free kick is taken from the correct position lest the Irish players might try to steal a meter or two meanwhile hir holl Grimson and John OA and Patty McCarthy deep in conversation potentially more changes on the way small bone floats it in towards the edge of the area and the knockdown will break here for Choi AG Ben on the edge of the area and now it's set there for Ireland Adam EA rolls it back for AG Ben just Scoops the ball into the area Jacob Bryan with a bit of a a wild pull but it didn't quite work out and now it's England on the Counterattack Anthony Gordon breaking forward down England's left hand side Jason Knight is there and well covered off by Jason Knight he did superbly well to get the measure of anony Gordon has been a bit of a frustrating night for Anthony Gordon you'd have to say and now it's with Nathan Collins to darl shade just inside his own penalty area out to Aron's left hand side Robbie Brady and Brady has a look up and sweeps it cross field now for chos Benny lots of space here now for the town Winger to drive into off he goes the corkman driving forward cwell eventually comes out to meet him and the attempt to cross from J B is blocked down but Ireland still have possession Jacob Bryan just Strokes it out to Nathan Collins on now frog Ben arin's right hand side cwell defending here for England AG Ben checks inside tries to slip the ball through and kab Manu is there to tidy up for England and now England will try and break quickly b l off to Anthony Gordon I just wonder at what point will the English interum boss Le cars they think about making changes he'd have to imagine with another game to come on Tuesday he might make a few as this game wears on we're in the 27th minute of the second half England leading by two goals to nil on this Saturday sport special in terms of that being extended until 7:00 this evening the Kaya Saka on it for England here's Harry Kane Harry Kane who's got such a terrific goal scoring record for England 66 International goals prior to today he's had a couple of sniffs up goal during the course of the first half not so much in the second half Saka being pushed away from goal gah back to Baya Saka but irand put the squeeze on England the ball tent down the line now for Alexander Arnold moves the ball into Central Area cut up by Jason malumi a bit sloppy from England and Ireland have possession back now with DAR Shay left fo of clearance well read though by gahi who stepped out in front of Adam yida and Ida is just limping now and that'll be of concern to the Irish manager I would imagine Adam just gingerly trying to run something off at the moment it's Harry MaGuire in possession for England just inside his own half rolls a short pass to Jack Gish and greish back to Harry MaGuire Maguire with the England players not really making too much movement at the moment Alexander Arnold available on England's right hand side and England quite content at the moment with the two-goal advantage that they hold those goals in the first half if you're Jo joining us late scored by Delan rice and by Jack greish the two former Ireland players rice who won three international caps at senior level all friendlies of course before switching allegiance to England and of course Jack Gish captain at underage it's a sloppy pass from England once again and now AG Ben is on to it for Ireland just to pokes it out to the right hand side side Anthony Gordon back defending for England back with Nathan Collins on halfway and options available Jacob Bryan will just send it on now for Dar OA OA inside the English half with Robbie Brady on The Irish left hand side and Jason malumi moves across field towards AG Ben controls the ball but Levi C was there to get something on it and the ball goes out of play there'll be a throw in for Ireland on the far side subu for rep number eight will so will small bone is going off and Alan Brown is coming on and there's going to be an international debut for Casey mateer of Leicester city and Adam is going off so a big moment in the career of Casey mck here who's on for his International debut Kenny yeah interesting to seeing him I see what position he takes up to be honest with if he goes centrally alongside Sami smed hope he does the formations the tweaking formation has worked reasonably well for us so far Alan Brown for small bound is kind of like for like he'll just slot into that Center Midfield area Alan be very comfortable there Cy MC is the one looks as if he's going to go into that Central stri position all right alongside smik let's see what he's got Adrien yeah well he made his Premier League debut Off the Bench late on last week for Leicester city the foxes of course back in the Premier League as arand tried to create an opening but England pretty comfortable at the moment with the two goal lead they hold set forward by Jake O'Brien C out by cwell now is an opportunity perhaps for iron to create something with Jason malumi his cross is deflected and almost broke to Casey mck here Anthony Gordon it's a right tussle possession and the end the referee has wor the free kick in favor of England and there a yellow card for jakeob Bryan yeah just left a bit on Anthony Gordon there it's good to see jaay malumi getting into an advanced 30 there looking to put a cross into the box with that extra player in Center Midfield we can allow him to do that you know encourage him to push forward KN that he's got Jason Knight now and Alan Brown in behind them so the center of that Midfield is kind of secure if we turn over possession first half Jason are will small bound we getting themselves in advance of the ball we are turning over the ball just too much space them for to attack either side that that hold the Midfield player well the boov you can hear for Jack brish who head off score of England's second goal and there's going to be a debut here for Morgan Gibbs white of Nottingham Forest the first Nottingham Forest player to be capped by England since Stuart Pierce back in the late '90s AI e of Crystal Palace is also coming on and so too angel Gomez of Le so Gomez is on for his International debut like Morgan Gibbs white so number 11 big moment for both those players turns of their International career Gomez on and so too Morgan Gibbs white and eere E is on for his eighth International appearance for England oh Angel Gomez coming on here Adrian player I'm really looking forward to seeing and play we know enough about e the qualities he has coming on to the pitch and Morgan games white we've seen enough of them at the Premiership but Gomez is a really interesting character been for for uh forging his career in Le for the past couple of years and really high price from Lee harsley coming into the camp this week saying this L could be the future kind of quarterback really ball playing Holding Midfield player kind of really dictate things from the base of that Midfield look the SI him small boy isn't he but obviously got exceptional technical ability really looking forward to seeing them played remaining kind of whatever 15 minutes of the game yeah Mayu and Anthony Gordon have headed off and ETI a of Crystal Palace who made his debut last year against Malta for England is operating on the left hand side so this should freshen up England yeah you mentioned the excitement around Angel Gomez in terms of England he was regarded as a Wonder kid in his days at Manchester United made the move to France he was loan out to B Vista in Portugal but he's on for his debut Alexander Arnold swings in across from England's right hand side but too much onon us and E never able to get on the end of that even his first couple of touches there a Gomez getting on the ball in his own half onew s playing little clever onews around the corner remind me of Paul SCS a little bit when a low Center grav he always looking to play One Touch head up giving up the big build up here hope he doesn't hope he doesn't disappoint Jake O'Brien Under Pressure manages to clear Irish lines play very congested to the whole cluster of players inside the Irish half in about a a 20 M radius Nathan Collins gets a touch on it and ug Ben manages to check away from his opposite number and CH Al Ben on halfway right hand side of the pitch Alan Brown making a darting run through the middle up towards the edge of the area sent back though to Nathan Collins in the 79th minute and it's O'Brien with daro Shay to his left hand side weing k a long way from his goal Nathan Collins on it once again and Collins sends it back to uh ker outside his area and he cushions the ball out to this near side picked up by Robbie Brady trying to check away from Alexander Arnold oh he's possession to Harry Kane on the edge of the area and Kane weighs up his options but Kaya Saka is the intended recipient still there though for the Arsenal man checks away sloppy mistake there by Robbie Brady but arand survived for now ball sent forward as they try to threaten once again England they just knocked the ball around very confidently with Dean rice and rice sending it back to Angel Gomez and forward by gahi so Adept at retaining possession England just controlling possession Gibbs white getting involved once again rice is nearby it's Baya Saka Baya Saka it'll break here for Morgan Gibbs and he attempts to deliver the cross and the sliding challenge the DAR going in and the English pair Morgan gives wide is going to be penalized it's going to be a free kick for the Republic of Ireland yeah good recovery speed there from Dar Morgan gives away now slouch give him a yard there Dar made a back up within five really good defending one of his assists there at that recovery speed don't have to worry about him necessarily one be one situations with the ball in behind another change on the way and it's Evan Ferguson who hasn't kicked a ball since last March he's on for the last few minutes here less than 10 minutes remaining perhaps he'll be an option for Tuesday and the meeting with Greece here which takes on added significance for the Republic of arand It's Always likely to be the case that England would have the measure of the Republic of Ireland here at the Aviva Stadium you never like to uh concede that but uh well certainly that was a smart bet on the gree game arguably a bigger game here's an opportunity it's Casey mcer delivers a wonderful ball into the area but England are there to Snuff out the danger but Ireland have it back once again daray forced to send it all the way back though to quen Keller they get the Impressions very shortly have ke Tracy and Ireland have it with Nathan Collins far side of the pitch just on halfway Harry Kane just dropping inside his own half ball sent forward down arland's right hand side can irand at least get on the score sheet and fashion a consolation goal and maybe who knows after that the ball goes out of play on the far side and it'll be a throw in to be taken well initially it would look like beny would take the throw inie so Robbie Brady heads off and Evan Ferguson is back so the man from bettystown in County me he's had to BU his time in terms of football that injury towards the back end of last season but he's back and he'll get some game time here and some well precious few minutes you'd have to say yeah good to see him back I think he needs it needs the game time hasn't got at a club level so the minutes he gains this evening certainly next Tuesday he'd expect him to start against Greece are going to be very important for him exactly sure how things are going to change tactically now he's taking off a left wing back in Robbie Brady and bringing on the center forward so need to make a few adjustments Alan Brown's going over I think to ask JN a and exactly maybe he's being asked of him now from a tactical point of view but it be nice to finish the game with a goal still 10 minutes to go we can't give it up can get a goal in the next few minutes certainly all to play forward and the England might become a little bit more edgy so Evan Ferguson on for the Republic of Ireland Alan Brown as you say came across to this near side meanwhile an Invader darted down the pitch all the way from the ls down Road under the ground a young fell I would imagine all the way up towards the uh Everton goalkeeper Jordan pford eventually was uh met by security so a long throw in on Ireland's right hand side Nathan Collins trying to flick it on it breaks about 35 meters out from goal Brown sends it back now to malumi arland's right hand side being tracked all the way malumi carries the ball forward England trying to put pressure on and now it's Harry Kane to lift The Siege if Siege is the right word and Harry Kane has been fouled and it'll be a free kick to England just about 15 M or so away from the halfway line yeah hasn't bow me over Kane today I've got to be honest performance wise had a pretty miserable time during the summer for England L it calls for him to be taking out a team at the expense of OE Watkins who done ever so well coming off the bench don't think he's a guaranteed start now in this England team I really don't in general play goes missing you know the quality that he has Inside the Box the quality of his finishing is goal to games ratio but I think increasingly he's going to come under pressure from Watkins and even Dominic sanki if he starts the season well at Tottenham for that um star position is England's number nine JN Stones coming on for England so to bone of West Ham United Keith Tracy your thoughts at this point of the match yeah we've done okay Adrian in the second half I think the couple of tweaks in formation has probably helped us a little bit more but I think if I'm being totally honest the English have probably took that foot off our tro they've come down a couple of levels they're just managing the game making a whole host of substitutions that don't really weaken them at all just goes to show you did wealth of experience they have Harry Kane coming off now Jal B coming on brilliant season just been made West Ham Captain it's h hard to see where o go from here as we said we've competed a little bit better we've only had know 20 or 25% of the ball and we've hued and puffed look like we could possibly make something happen in our in the English final tour but defensively as I say just haven't been able to cope with the English whatsoever so Harry Kane and uh Harry McGuire the two Harries are the players have gone off confirmation 10 at the Full House of course 50, 359 let's hope they come back Henny on Tuesday yeah well I think there is if we do go on to lose this game if we learned anything from this game I think going into the game against gson Tuesday man just saying how important it is I think if we are going to stick with this system with a back five for me we have to we have to start as we finish today with that flat three in Midfield and a front two you know we have a wealthy talented Center forward some great options I think we have to use them well England pressing here with chared bone driving inside the area and the shot well it produced a fine save from keving Keller diving to his left hand side he managed to get two hands to it to claw the ball away and England Subs anxious to impress they have possession once again with Morgan Gibbs white just on the angle of the Irish penalty area and England enjoying the ball in terms of possession at the moment Baya Saka trying to turn away from traffic Morgan Gibbs white is available in a central position halfway inside the Irish half and now it's Eber e of Crystal Palace and now Angel Gomez for Dean rice who just toe pokes the ball on head wide by Gibbs white to Trent Alexander Arnold rice once again England in control of the ball and Gomez sends it back to gahi just inside his own half and England in the uh pretty pleasurable position of leading by two goals to nil with just under 5 minutes to go yeah just making the point about the numbers that we have at Center forward Evan Ferguson SM obviously Adam start today Troy P we got plenty of options up there I'd love to see his kind of sett on a forward partnership in the next kind of couple of games like I said extra player in Midfield gives us a little bit more defensive H solidity and with the two Strikers centrally high up the pitch think gives us a better chance of getting back to front and getting better sustained pressure on the opposition goal so if anything's come out of the game today for me I think it's that well a problem here for Deon rice for Arsenal and a for England because rice just pulled up he had possession temporarily for England and he looks as if he's laboring badly at the moment Dean rice will open the scoring after 12 minutes of very fine finish as he seized upon the loose ball and just drove it high into the roof of the Irish night top right hand corner really classy finish from Deon rice in the second of course scored by Jack Gish a lovely flowing England move rice centrally involved as well in the second goal for England and a very uh stylish finish from Gish to make it 2-0 so it's the old Irish boys who inflicted damage on the Republic of Ireland here at the Aviva stadium is there more damage about to AC crew rice just on the angle of the area he's struggling but he retained possession well GI tce on for evi E winds up the shot with a fizzing effort not too far away from everi e oh really wasn't just stood up OG Ben there shifted on to his right foot on the edge of the Box Genera a huge amount of power on this this wasn't far off it really wasn't well maybe a couple of more yards than I thought just again that wealth of talent that England have on those kind of forward attacking areas the game has died a little bit there's no doubt about that Alan Brown's g into a kind of left wing back position don't think he'll be overly happy with that aent coming onto the pitch than in Center Midfield that can get us back into this game get us a goal he's been asked to play that kind of left wing back position now to the end of the game it looks like d and rice will have to see it out with England utilizing their subs darl Shay sends it back to quen ker into Stuart's end of match positions time at this stage of the game just a little over 2 minutes to go at the Aviva Stadium Dar left foot of clearance up towards halfway and the ball will drift out of play England haven't uh set the world a light this evening you'd have to say but they've been very very comfortable hav't beaten Ireland in Dublin since 1964 Al Ramsey side at the time back in the early 60s winning at danan Park by three goals to one amongst the scorers that day the late great Jimmy Greaves e who had that chance just a few moments ago for England sends it back to Mark gahi and the ball sent for to Angel Gomez just a little shy with the return turn pass England in a spot of bother here JN stones will have to chase to keep it alive for England a sends it back to stones of Manchester City and Stones fires the ball forward giv swipe with the layoff to e and England very much in cruise control at this Lane point of the match a full house at the Aviva Stadium for the Irish supporters it's been a bit of a frustrating evening the dawn of a new era in terms of the arrival of himer hson from Iceland as manager but it's going to be a losing start for the new man at the summit of Irish football is there going to be a late chance for Ireland as uh J Benny tried to work something down Ireland's right hand side but to be fair to the crowd they still trying to encourage the team at this late point in the game and has been named as the irand player of the match yeah not an easy decision to be honest with you for the sponsor going to understand that probably the impact he's made in second half probably has got him the sh he look very comfortable over there and we are going to play this system strong argument for me that he's got to he's got a start there he's very impressive there for sundland not an out and out Defender don't get me wrong I'm not saying he's going to rock solid defensively but certainly in possession he gets himself high and wide early and in One V one situations not afraid to take on his man and get into the space and behind and get Del Liberty into the box that's important Alan Brown send it on to Casey mcer the debutant for Ireland attempted to deliver the cross it just took a Ricochet of Mark gahi and gahi has possession once again and he just rolls it down the line for Alexander Arnold who pings it forward but again that's another missed Place pass from Alexander Arnold can arand capitalize here set on by Nathan Collins for the arand player of the match that's chido Benny on the angle of the area lifts the ball towards the back PS casy mcer goes to ground looking for the decision to go in his favor not to be goal kick results yeah would love to see n Ben take on E on the outside there drive to the end B uh L he didn't go back onto his left foot wasn't a bad little ball to the back post area mcer clay andu just got a piece of his ja you think he did Rend him from getting on to the end of it five additional minutes being played at the end of the 90 minutes what will hir hson take away from this going into Tuesday yeah surely try and be positive after the game but you know we've all watched the game here we've all we can see what a struggle it's been for this orage team remember that one chance early on for Jason mum from P after that not too much more Sami smed may be coming on to the inside as well but need to get into the opposition last TS of the pitch a little bit more agent we need to be able to find a way to get more sustained pressure on the opposition team whether it's England orever it is more crosses into box more final third entries start working the opposition keeper certainly a lot more well Deon rice with that terrific ball to pick out ETI e the ball just ran away from him he has managed to get it under control here's Morgan Gibbs white 35 me out from goal Jared bone and Bone feeds It Wide now for Trent Alexander Arnold Alexander Arnold has M kaiaka nearby Saka faced by Alan Brown Dean rice with the return pass but Kaya Saka weaving his way inside the area might run for chared bone in the end it's cleared Swept Away by quing Keller the Irish goalkeeper up towards halfway but England have possession back once again with cwell of Chelsea very strong imposing left back of Chelsea in England of course no Shaw available and Kieran tripier has retired from International football for England so call will be hoping to become a staple part of the cary's plans in terms of the left back birth yeah he's very flexible up right at Center half as well now easy comfortable sliding into a back three or an orthodox going a back four as is the way in the modern game with these Defenders here's Saka England's right hand side just out out the area Jared bone the shot driven towards the near Pole but did Ken Keller get something on it well Ireland somehow managed to survive in stoppage time at the end of 19 minutes in the third minute of additional time Jed bone very going very close for England yeah great save again quen Kiger sacker down brilliantly well spoke about have been able to go both ways drives and alen brown on his not so strongest right foot still has the ability to Fizz that ball into the near post there was good contact from Bon at the near post he only six yards out really good save from qu another Force One here's Gibbs white oh that's a lovely ball to release Baya Saka arand very exposed here Saka inside the area that's another excellent save and as they with the followup couldn't apply the necessary finish I'd argue queing Keller might be a little bit myth he's not he's not walking away with the man of the match award probably if the sponsor had to wait another couple of minutes they made a different choice he's made some big sides sque in during this game forgetting about those saves in the first half Point Blank saves from hary Kane and Anthony Gordon has made a couple now the last couple of minutes as well saving us a goal from jarro Bon and now booo Saka excellent save by quing Keller his 15th International appearance for Ireland and he was at full stretch there to keep it out injury time at the end of 90 minutes England are about to get their UEFA Nations league b campaign in this particular group group two off to a winning start those goals in the first half scored by Dean rice and Jack Gish inflicting this defeat on Ireland Nathan Collins has to be very careful always CED up on possession on the edge of the area to e who tries to work his way through and the referee s whistle is going to be a free kick and Aron's blush is spared there so we're in the fifth and final minute of additional time Kenny your final information well it's been disappointing I've got to be honest I can't get away from it just think it's so important moving forward that we decide upon a kind of a system of play that we're going to STI stick with best compliments the players that we can bed down over the over the next couple of weeks and months will make us competitive in this Nations League qualifying campaign I don't think I saw in the first half I saw a system which the players didn't look overly comfortable in we couldn't get enough pressure high up the pitch H he didn't create enough chances and we looked very open defensively it's been a little bit has been better second half there's no doubt about that but we need to find the system quickly uh so the players have confidence in it work on it and bed it down and hopefully improve performances quickly as we move forward and there it is it is all over at the Aviva Stadium England have traveled to Dublin and they have won they have taken the points on offer in group two they've beaten Ireland by two goals to nil Dean Ry and Jack guish with the Goals full time Republic of Ireland nil England two and our thanks to Kenny Cunningham and to Adrien e it has been a long evening Pat Fen and Keith Tracy alongside me here um Pat there's an awful lot of of what we talked about before that we're going to end up having to go overall ground again but we can reflect on a better second half performance which is a positive but the reality or the context is it was such a small low base level in the first half that listen the only way was up yeah listen I think some of the changes held but I think the big the big difference in the second half was England took the foot off the pedal and played in second gear maybe even if they got to that at times and even when they did want to step it up we seen that in the last two or three minutes where the keepers had to make two great saves as well agree with Kenny what he said there I was coming today looking to see was there going to be something different how the manager set up we've got in between shapes at the moment for me there's no I think is is fine in the shape the see the players we have the one positive for me and it happened previously as well like Benny on that right hand side I think if you're going to play with three Center halfes you got to have Pace outside of the wide areas to be able to go down the line I think with Robbie Brady and Authority on both sides we don't have that and Robbie's really good delivery of the ball but I think the shape of the team is not right at the moment we've said that probably under Steven as well so I think the challenge for this manager is to find a system that suits the players we have and play to that and play to our strengths we didn't we didn't cause England any problems whatsoever this evening listen there quality above us a long long way the W thing as well I think what we've seen today is how far we how far we are behind in relation to football yeah technical ability like these players are low L years ahead of what we have on the pitch today and that i' been a a Critic of air Lads they are just in a different different level and you've seen that today I think these played within well within themselves today and we got away with not getting the proper tanking today they're fourth in the world where 58 puts it all into context when we talk about the structure and the shape and the way this Irish team was deployed Keith is it fair to talk about the manager having a limited period of time with them this week or is there criticism that's there that he has had a number of weeks or months depending depending on how long he's known this job was coming his way to study them and look at how we've played in the past and where problems have come in the past it's been difficult no matter when heymer knew he was getting the job getting the lads all into a room together getting them on the pitch going through the drills the triggers of when he wants them to go the basics of how he wants to play he didn't have any time to implement that so you can't really be too critical of the manager but the players as individuals have been really poor today you know I said we walk the ball into decent positions and you know there was the malum head in the first two minutes but other than that Kar has made probably five really good saves Kane has missed a chance he should have scored as well so to be honest with a really poor performance we're lucky to be getting out here with it only being to0 the two Center midfielders from me small bone and mumi vacating that space in the middle of the pitch you can't do that you've got to keep the play in front of you Daman and if you're going to go and chase people like a headless chicken at this level you will just get popped off we have had this conversation on multiple occasions in this Stadium after matches how do resolve that like we we clearly don't have alternative players to put in there so the system has to change the mentality has to change the deployment has to change you I think you need a brain between your ears I think if you're if you're standing in the middle of the pitch and the ball is getting played in around in front of you that's not a big problem you can deal with that but they want you to go out the English want you to go and get chasing so they can play the spacing behind you Harry Kane is dropping in there Trent is coming in to make problems for you so you vacate your position and they can go and H you and so often malum will go and get a little sniff of the ball and he'll go again and again and then small bound is thinking well I'm isolated I'll go running as well the center halves are not coming up with us and when you're playing against good players especially Jack Reish he will just pop up in now's position so often and with us playing a really narrow four in Midfield it just said the sacket and Gordon you go in your One V one battles and go win the game for England I'm very limited on time pack but just to look ahead to Tuesday like we desperately need a result if this team has gone anywhere in this Nations League we need to win on Tuesday yeah with the last thing we need is more you know everybody being negative and you know going to be negative after today cuz like I said they're mes ahead of us but again it's against the teams that we think we should be able to put performance in you know that their a team that we should be able to perform against and hopefully pick up three points which is very important for everyone moving forward yeah and then particularly a double header against Greece and Finland next month gentlemen thank you both for your company over the course of the the afternoon and the evening Pat fenland and Keith Tracy likewise Kenny Cunningham who was alongside Adrian uh on commentary one or two very quick words of news Eddie dumbar took victory in today's penultimate stage in LTA his second stage victory in this year's Grand Tour it moves him to 11th Place in general classification primas rage
