Introduction how do you know when a coach is one of the best in college football is it strictly based off championships do you factor in NFL draft picks or is it just solely off wins and losses I believe it's a combination of all these things there is no exact science but how do we know this coach is bringing the it Factor back to this program he was sought after by Alabama once Nick sa retired by being granted a handsome contract extension making $10 million a year good for the fourth highest paid coach in college football it's hard to believe that he led his team to an ACCC Championship had an undefeated regular season missed the college football playoffs and was named in 2023 be bride coach of the year that's right I'm talking about Coach Mike noral noville has been good I mean really good how good has he been since FSU won the national title 2013 their wins began to plummet starting with 13 wins in 2014 with Jimbo the program began to drift under his leadership and then Willie tager took over in 2018 and lasted only 21 games after having The First losing season at Florida State since Bobby bow his first year in 197 76 although a good man tager tanked the program he left the program worse off than what he inherited from Jimbo with the coaches search headlining with names like coach Prime Bob Stoops Mar Stoops Matt Campbell Gus maon Brian Kelly and Jack Delio to name a few the administration went for a young coach out of Memphis Mike Norville and having look back s he has taken Florida state from the bottom of Lake Hall back to the top of college football here's a number for you 23 if you want to truly appreciate norville's impact here it is 23 wins in the past two years at Florida State a program that had just won 26 games total in the previous Five Seasons this turnaround in terms of Wis talent and culture is just genely remarkable plus he owns the State of Florida by defeating both Florida and Miami is Florida State here to stay with the return to the Old Glory Days we will discuss place and we have we have the right people in place we definitely have the right young men to help continue to help this program get to where it deserves to be whichever side of the Transfer Portal fish you were all whether the NOS deserved or didn't deserve a playoff bid you cannot question the job Norville did last season simply put he was the best coach in college football last year while elevating his team to a college football Contender one exceptional thing norel SS at is the transfer portal at nil FSU is nailing the transfer portal check out all the transfers from last year nine players drafted from FSU were out of the portal Germaine Johnson saved this program and was a big part of Jared ver deciding to come here I would rather have Keon Coen and Johnny Wilson over two five-star unproven high schoolers Norville is doing it again with the addition of Oregon State transfer DJ oui angula as the seminal are looking to replace Heisman finalist Jordan Travis under Center there has been Fierce competition between dju and sophomore Brock G who has made major improvements in his game this past off season some consider dju as a great stop Gap quarterback over his 4-year career he has thrown for 8,319 yards while depleting 59% of his passes in doing so the 6'4 quarterback has also scored 57 pass and touchdowns to just 24 interceptions DJ has also added 1,132 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns on the ground but two stats that have to improve at FSU to remain solid contenders are his fourth quarter numbers where he threw less than 50% and managed only 570 yards and five touchdowns and four interception and also against top 25 competition he threw for 854 yards had a 53.9 completion percentage with just four touchdowns and four interceptions other key pickups from the portal are running back Royale Williams wide receiver Malik B and defensive live and Marvin Jones Stiff Defense Jr the semal defense was relentless last season finishing fourth in the country in sacks with 46 defense has improved every year under norvale however a challenge this season is all the new faces he has on defense Florida State lost his top two linebackers and tacklers and kayin delo and Tatum bethon in addition to his sack leader and Jared verse those three were important players for the seminal particularly Delo who did just about everything as the hard of the defense a year ago with 10 and a half tackles for loss an interception and two Force fumbles but they got a lot of pieces now they're having to replenish and replace Florida state is 83rd in the country in returning production 69.5% of returning tackles 12% of returning passes defense intercepted a broken up 10 and a half returning tackles for loss and only 8% for sacks the nose D has improved every season under Norville and Fuller even with the revolving door of transfers how will he improve this season and what many may consider a rebuilding year Schedule fsu's schedule has the potential to Chuck more roadblocks than last year starting the season in Dublin Ireland against a steadily improving Georgia Tech squaring off against a reted Miami A desperate Clemson and a refined NRE Dame team could spell trouble if FSU doesn't come to play Florida is still hit or miss and USC is rebuilded without Star Quarterback Drake mate although the path to the playoffs is easier because of the 12 teams the NOS desperately need the ACC to far better than last season most of all Mike norvale officially established himself as the heir to Bobby Bowden jimo Fisher looked to be the answer for some time but Norville solidified himself as the man to bring FSU to what it once was after seeing phenomenal head coaches take steps backwards Norville has the talent to be a generational Star based on what we've seen and I know it is a small sample size he could be not just a star but become a Transcendent face of college football if a Coach can produce like the greats improved like the greats and he is showing signs and flashes of being great than he probably is every coach visualizes lifting that trophy above their head and being crowned a champion so how good is Florida State and Mike Norville actually better than we thought they would be what do y'all think are they truly favorites to compete for the national title or are we getting ahead of ourselves as we've done in the past thanks for watching please like comment and subscribe [Music]
