Hey, house guest, I'm Andrea Chu and I'm David Bellville. And we're here for a special breaking news episode of hey house guests because something that's never happened before is happening for the first time in 24 years. Julie Chen will not be hosting Big Brother tonight. That's right. We're recording this right now on a Thursday. So tonight is the live eviction and Julie Chen, like you said, won't be there. And so there's going to be a huge surprise in store for a house guest tonight. Yeah. So we got uh we work for a CBS station. So we got info earlier today that she would not be hosting. And then we saw Julie's Tweet herself, which explained basically that she woke up a little bit sick with a little sore throat, saw a doctor found out she has COVID, everything uh is mild in terms of her symptoms, but she still can't be there obviously to greet whichever house guest is evicted tonight and also in front of the studio audience and, and with COVID, still a lingering problem in our society. Obviously, the rules are a little different around COVID. We talked about maybe if this was just a normal cold, might tough it out. But there are rules in place for COVID still. First of all, I can't believe this has never happened before, literally, since the year 2000. I mean, she's a powerhouse. She, she's made it through every single live show. So she, she's been there with her short hair, her long hair, her bang, she's been there every single time. I, I just, the first thing I looked up was like, has this ever happened before? And it has not, which is crazy. She's a true TV professional and you know, her legacy is well known. She's been on this program for more than two decades now. And so for the first time, she will have a replacement and that comes in the form of Jerry o'connell. Now you might know Jerry o'connell from CB S's daytime talk show, the talk. Uh He also is a big Big Brother fan and he spoke with Julie Chen Moonves today on the talk and in that conversation, she seemed to be in good spirits. She seemed to be fairly healthy. She sounded ok. She sounded upbeat again. This is likely just precautionary because of the rules surrounding COVID. So that brings Jerry o'connell our first ever non Julie Chin Moonves, host of Big Brother and on top of the CBS talk show, the talk. He's also known for his roles in the classic stand by me and Jerry Maguire jerry o'connell is an actor and a TV personality. I know him a lot from him being a huge Bravo fan. I'm also a big Bravo fan. So he's on watch what happens live a lot. Sharing his Bravo take. So he's a reality TV guy. It's not like a stranger coming in in his conversation today with Julie Chin Moonves. He did sound like a super fan. It sounds like he's really excited for this opportunity. Julie joked with him like I hope that you can squeeze into my dress. She also wrote that in her message saying that she won't be there tonight. So good luck to Jerry o'connell. He's got huge heels to fill and it's going to be such a treat to see the reaction on the houseguests faces when Julie Chen's face doesn't pop up tonight. Yeah. So I don't know. Hopefully they weren't told beforehand and Jerry o'connell's voice just comes over the speaker in the house and they're like, what? And they find out then and they won't get to say Julie, you look amazing tonight. Um Jerry Julie, Jerry, at least they're j names. So, but yeah, this is going to be so good and interesting to watch it. It also got me thinking like Julie has done this job for so long and I'm sure that this show has many years left. Oh, yeah. And like, I don't know if she's just planning on doing it until the end of time until she can't anymore until the show ends or is there a world where someone would take her spot? I mean, we've seen long time hosts like in Jeopardy and on Wheel of Fortune, the show goes on. And so I hope that Big Brother continues past Julie Chen's reign over the show and the program. But who would replace her? That would be an interesting conversation to have. It's actually been a week of new hosts because this week was Ryan Seacrest's first week on Wheel of Fortune and he was delightful. I thought he did a great job. But in terms of his selection for that, you can associate Ryan Seacrest with so many other things, Julie Chen Moonves. Sure she's done other work before. But let's be honest, you know, her because of Big Brother, I would really love someone to just embody what Julie has and make, make the show just a part of who they are. And so kind of a brand new person would be my, my, my hope when that tragic day would come. I mean, like the Chen Bot has been so synonymous with Big Brother for so long. But if you had to choose a new host, like tomorrow, oh, gosh, who would you pick? Do you think any alumni? It would definitely an alumni, maybe a doctor Wilt. He makes a lot of appearances on. He's around, he's around. Who would you pick? I don't know. I asked you the question. I didn't have an answer loaded. It's a tough one to come up with the, I feel like some of the more recent people who have been involved would try to gun for it. Like Taylor Hale and Taylor Harold Cody Califia and Jag did that little special thing. Um, which I think people were kind of confused. They were like, what is this like? I don't know if that was the show's way of trying to see, like, how does the public respond to a different format of things? But personally, I'm someone who likes change. I think it could just give the show like a new era, a new life. So like, if that day does come, I think like it could be good. Yeah. Yeah, absolutely. And I hope they keep it in the BB family. It would be really cool to see someone who was one time a player and take the reins. But of course, we're just speculating right now. What we do know is that for the first time in more than two decades, Julie Chen will not be hosting Thursday Night's live eviction. And is there anything else that you want to add a history making week in the Big Brother House for a number of reasons which we will recap in our full episode. This was just a mini. We were like, we have to get in here and talk about about this. This is history. Wishing Mrs Chen Moonves very well and um we'll see when she returns and also it'll just add some extra spice to tonight's episode to see uh the house guests walk out and have to have their little interview with Jerry o'connell. And what will he ask? How will it go? We will be watching and of course, we'll be back next week to break down this week of Big Brother right here on a house guest. So for Andrea Chu, I'm David Belleville. Get well, soon Julie and we'll see you next time. Love one.
