countries where you know we talk about some people talk about wanting to leave the United States and wanting to go experience uh just other countries and live there and see what their countries are like as far as the health care their uh their taxes their benefits their but also just there are certain things that you can't do in certain countries certain count certain things you can't do here but I am grateful for this country and for the Liberties that we do have uh no matter what the president looks like in the next couple of months um just know that we still live in an amazing country make an end is to make a new beginning it comes from him the reason I shared that with you is because we had an end of of one year and it was magnificent we had the players we had the coaches we just flopped in one game but you have to really figure out how you're going to turn it all over again how you going to hit that reset button for those of you who play Nintendo and Sega Genesis back in the day and just you get ticked off and you hit that reset button at least you got that Fresh Start This Is Us hitting that Fresh Start think about that when it comes to your own lives there's going to be times when you're looking like dang this is the end but is it half glass is a glass half full is it a new beginning is it a new start I'll be I'll be straight up with you there was an opportunity uh for me I say opportunity it was a really sucky situation when it came to my job and uh I needed to look at it like hey this isn't this isn't the end I got a new beginning and I got a great team around me great great boss you know I like great job so it's awesome all right so we are going to get into it after I read a couple of your comments pay these bills Brooke is here what's going on Brooke how you doing and people saying what's up Brooke we need to play ticked off against Kansas City you right because I'm G be in that stadium and uh being loud I'm being there purple down having everything on purple I'm G have purple shoes I'm G have if I could find actually I have on purple shorts right now I probably and it is hot enough I could probably we my purple shorts on my purple shirt and my purple with purple shoes and then my purple chain I have over there we we we gonna rock this thing it's gonna be beautiful all right so what I wanted to get into today was coaching history uh or coaches and players players that have turned into coaches or general managers things we seen you know the goat basketball player Michael Jordan turn into a general manager didn't turn out too well he was such a better player such a better competitor on the court than he was off the court Steve CT he was okay he was part of the Jordan franchise but he goes to Golden State and it turns all the way up sometimes it turns out well sometimes it doesn't and you know Mike Singletary is the reason I um wanted to bring this up or Zack or was the reason I want to bring this up because Mike singer is fallowing down a similar path and we saw what Mike sing was able to do with the um with the bottimore Ravens as a coach and then with the San Francisco 49ers as a coach I'm talking about defensive coordinator is what I'm talking about an assistant head coach and then we saw him as a head coach and things kind of went downhill from there but I wanted to focus on the similarities and differences between the two of these guys so let's start off with with their experience let's just look at the resume here um so you know looking at Zack or and Mike single as far as playing career we talking about a Hall of Fame linebacker primar with the Chicago Bears known for his intense leadership style and his his leadership driven play style excuse me he led the Bears defense including the famous 1985 Super Bowl winning Chicago Bears and then in you know then of course there's his coaching career we'll get into it in a minute but Zack or you know we're talking about play playing careers first Zack L is a linebacker for the Rens set close get my sauce I can ahe speak today okay so Zack Zack play was a linebacker for the Ravens he retired early to that due to that neck injury and the spine position that he just could not get cleared on like he thought for sure that he would be cleared to be able to play ball again and then Eric dasta offers him an opportunity to either join the front office or get into coaching he's like you're passionate about the game you have an intelligent mind uh you're analytical let's make this happen where do you want to be you want to be a scout or you want to be a coach and he chose because the Ravens brass an opportunity to be a coach he helps out with the position group for the Ravens then he goes down to the Jaguars then he comes back to the Ravens and he unlocks Pat Queen I know we got a lot of bad things to say about this guy but he kind of unlocks Pat Queen and and really shows off the skills of rocan because of his coach ability because of his playing ability because that experience and now they have trusted him with the job of a defense coordinator but I'm I'm just just not sure I'm just not sure anyway back to the coaching piece for Mike single so Mike he's exensive he had coach he has extensive coaching experience including head coach positions linebacker coaching roles uh he's noted for his motivational skills so he's got that kind of Ray Lewis thing going on matter of fact I think he had a good bit to do with r Ray Lewis and his talent level continuing to rise I mean there was a little bit of pouring into the pot of course Ray was great before single ter became his coach I want to say that was in 2003 to 2006 or something on those lines but he helped pour into Ray and still made great Ray great along the way gave him some of the tools that he needed all right so sary of course coach for the San Francisco 49ers the Vikings and briefly the Memphis Express so this things were kind of going downhill this is after this is post pull the pants down type situation there so but he was also a defensive coordinator uh for the Ravens so the reason I thought that this comparison worked so well is because both of them were Mike linebackers both of them had intelligence to be able to play the position and Coach those around them and help mold and fit people into the defense the way they needed to they had a lot of autonomy when it came to the position and then now maybe maybe or didn't have as much autonomy because we know Harbaugh he was really holding the he was holding people really really close uh when it came to letting players think for themselves before Lamar Jackson got there he was definitely not allowing that autonomy and it was causing a lot of problems because whenever things would go wrong he would blame the players instead of actually blaming the coaches when the coaches were the ones that had the most control because John Harbaugh wanted it that way after the wild dogs Ray Lewis and Ed Reed Anquan after they all left so any it goes back to that uh analytical approach is one of the things that is a strength for Zack or while leadership style uh leadership driven style play is single teries like strength so we're going to play to these two strengths here and that's why uh I'm using both of their because they they're different but at the same time beneficial to the Ravens when they were there and how were they beneficial well let's take a look at for single ter I think it was up to about 2008 he was uh no excuse me 2003 2004 the defensive ranking for the Ravens third in the NFL in Total Defense six in uh six defense in passing rushing defense fifth in the NFL points allow six so this was a stellar defense yes we had Talent at all three levels of the position maybe he was a bar Switzer and a benefactor of such a talented defense but like I said I still believe he poured some special sauce in the pot to help s that thing up and make it great for the bottomore Ravens then there's the two 2004 defense so six in the NFL in Total Defense ninth in pass defense eighth in Rush defense points allow was six in the NFL so this was a beast defense featuring Ed Reed featuring Ray Lewis featuring Terrell sugs and and of course we know what happened in 2016 season we get H not and really tear this thing loose and it was one of the greatest Seasons the Ravens ever had I think it's very comparable to this 2023 season we had all the tools we needed to get to the Super Bowl and we just could not figure that thing out tag on pton man and this time Patty Mahomes so it's okay we coming back but I show you that because I was wanted you to focus on the stats of Mike single ter when he was running defense because then he goes over to the uh San Francisco 49ers things don't go too well be honest with you if because he went from 2005 to 2008 uh as a defensive coordinator let me check those numbers I'm not sure if those are right but basically they their stats were pretty bad uh from 2005 because you got the 32nd ranked defense in the NFL 32nd ranked passing defense 32nd ranked Me 2 23rd ranked Rush defense in NFL and then 32nd in the NFL and points allowed that was 200 five then you had 2006 the numbers didn't get too much better but they did get a little better with him there so 26 in NFL in Total Defense pass defense was 26 Rush defense 19 uh points allowed 32nd in the 2007 they're getting they're ding they're slowly getting better they're starting to develop you see 25th and so on 25th 22nd 22nd and 20th 2008 then it gets better so you got the 13th Total Defense 20th pass defense Russian defense was 13th and then points allow was the 23rd so I think in that 2000 want to say 2009 season I think that's when Troy Smith came over there and I think that's when single ter took over but things kind of went downhill from there but that's just kind of how the coaching World works you know you do a good job in one spot and then you get promoted to another spot but can you handle the pressure of the new spot and that's why I'm kind of skeptical because this is a move for an inexperienced inexperienced coordinator into I'm me in inexperienced position coach into a new defensive coordinator spot he's got the talent as far as the the talent around him he's got an All-Star cast but can he handle it can he handle this position of the defense coordinator not sure any let's pay some bills so let's see Lisa says Gary kubak was a quarterback and he became a coach of quarterbacks okay uh kubak was a yeah I mean I think he was a better Coach than he was quarterback that's just that's just my opinion there um you know maybe want to Super Bowl lot of the donkeys but I think that's that's a given and I think he could have won one if he stuck Ryan Baltimore with Joe Flaco because Joe Flaco had one of his greatest Seasons with kubak as offensive coordinate yeah I'm still mad about the game too Brook uh let's see an says Hey cash Rider in in the flock on vacation with the family not staying long tonight I feel you you know I feel you because you know this is the summertime uh I am hoping that school comes back pretty quick because I'm tired to these kids I'm just going and put that out there um yeah these teachers need to come back and claim their kids like take these kids back but uh it's okay be are but I am missing two of my kids right now one of them is in C with her dad uh my stepdaughter Layla amazing individual love her to death she's watching right now girl love you miss you and then there's my boy Cameron he's in uh Oregon right now but it's Grandma probably being spoiled and fed to death wouldn't be surprised if he comes back about 20 or 30 pounds heavier cuz he just piles away but hopefully they they got him exercis too I think he's taking surfing lessons so miss them kids but uh teachers need to come on back come back and get these kids all right because as soon as school starts football season right around the corner so that's that's great all right n says Lisa hi lady how you doing I tried to find you and X wanted to DM you but there were too many leases couldn't figure okay yeah let y'all figure that out any so we going back I'm still wanting to stick on this subject for a bit because I I truly believe that this comparison it fits it fits well because of their experience as players and then going into the coaching world so reasons let's talk about it reasons why I think that zachor being the Ravens defense coordinators going to work out let's let's talk about it all right so how's it going to work why would it work familiarity with the organization we already know that he's played for us we know that he's got good he's got good relationships with the front office I mean it's just all the way down the line he has a deep knowledge of the Ravens culture the defensive schemes the current roster and he's played and he's coached the team you know and he's got a familiar area as far as being able to ensure continuity and smooth transition maintaining the defensive identity so we know that they are not going to be changing the entire defensive playbook it's just how it's rolled out each week what the scheme is going to be we know that you know when it came to McDonald he had a certain way of um rolling out that scheme he was planning New Tricks every single week of how he was going to roll things out and always kept those those coaches on the other teams guessing had always always had those players always guessing and I'm hoping he has that mentality or has the same mentality all right so we talked about his familiarity with the organization relatability to the players you know like I said number two is relatability to the players they they know him pretty well so he has an understanding of their mindset and their challenges and then he's able just to connect with them and Foster those strong relationships because he's a young cat he's still a young cat and they can have a communication on and off the field so it's more like that Mike Tomlin uh mindset you know he looks just as young as those players and you know he's got the players mentality so he knows how and what they're going through on that field because he was there on the field with them as their field General all right number three said he's got a modern analytical approach I mentioned this before he's got an analytical and data driven approach that aligns well with the modern NFL Trends and then it's focus on using those analytics to improve performance and strategy can help keep the Ravens defense Innovative and effective Innovative is the key when it comes to trying to get these quarterbacks off guard because they're going to watch the tape and the tape don't lie but if you don't have enough tape because there's a new defense coordinator this he can use that to his Advantage if there's no tape out there then they don't know what's coming next when it comes to him as a defense coordinator he can sit there and do a fullon zero Blitz play one of the season and who knows when it he don't know if like no coordinator and no quarterback is going to be able to fully plan for that they don't they don't know who's coming who's not or whatever if it's I mean if it's course it's zero everybody but I'm just saying like he has creativity to make Pat Mahomes life a living heck right now all right so I'm give him his flowers they gave me flowers you know I'll hear what you guys got to say about it then we'll get into why am I not work I'll talking about it in a second all right here we go Lea says zachor knows the guys and he'll be fine as defense coordinat okay I'm hoping so I'm hope so I'm just skeptical I'm just saying right now I'm just like look show me show me when I go to the stadium and come to Kansas City I want to see the Ravens defense ball out I mean we got the contributing factors there are are some wild cards we do know that we got a different Talent we have Nate Wiggins first round pick lots of speed lots of hustle great heart is he going to be what we expect him to be immediately do we need him to be not necessarily because we got we got all pro Marlo who probably still need to get his life together you know get back and you know not be on podcas and this much let's focus on more of the game um but you know I think he going to bounce back I think he going to be fine that's just his personality he wants to get the broadcasting cool whatever but then there Brandon Stevens who Brandon probably is in for a big old deal I don't know if it's with us I don't know if we can afford it but the dude is Du a contract and because he looks solid on the other side of the field he look better than Marlo last year I'm just G to say what it is Brooke don't fight me but I'm just saying yes I I started I start I started dang it [ __ ] you got beef I got State H play I got chicken any who Lisa says uh okay thank you Jesus you can always DM okay y'all Y looking out for each other I appreciate you okay said it was winnable blame every darn body from Harbo down to the last man on the field and Darren tickets was high and plus to our season of tick cost yeah the tickets are going to go up it's just what it is when you win the tickets go up even though they may have to start looking at how they're doing business in the NFL if they just got suited over Direct TV and they lost the suit they're going to imagine like hey you're going to see things go down just a little bit because of the fact that they're probably getting an eye on them on everything now because they started jacking prices up here then they started probably looking at the price of some nachos like nachos shouldn't be 20 bucks I'm just saying when you go to the stadium ridiculous anyway this said I'm sick of people disrespecting Marlo all right he gonna bounce back he going to bounce fact man I'm just saying I'm not saying dude's trash I'm just saying he had a little bit of struggle last year and Brooke don't like me to say anything about her perfect little Marlo look man I'm disrespect I'm not disrespecting your man just calling it like I see it proo season loading I like that I like the sound of that like look prove me wrong I love to be wrong on that she fight for her guy like you ain't got to fist fight nobody tidy over here just threatening to pull up it's a long pull up that's a long pull up D to come all way to Nebraska to try to fight me you got to get all through the corn fields and right now we got thunderstorms like crazy you willing to go through that to fight me you ain't got to go through all that I apologize so you ain't got to waste no gas and and possibly get hell damaged and your car get blown away like Wendy no all right let's go back like I said we still talking we still talking about the situation I want to talk about why it might not work all right so why it might not work we already know it's the obvious it's the exper the experience or lack thereof so or's coaching career it's just young folks and he lacks the extensive experience of some other candidates be real he's he's inexperienced in high pressure decision making as a coordin and it could be a drawback in those game time situations some people crack Under Pressure we don't know exactly what we getting here sure we're proud of him in what he did as a linebacker's coach but can he handle all of those positions can he put a focus on the corners if they ain't doing too well or the entire secondary or the outside linebackers the defensive tackles and not put as much focus on the middle linebackers or is he going to stay there and Trust other people to be able to handle those things what's he going to do what's his coaching sty what are we going to do on third Downs are we bringing the Heat or we sitting back conservative what's the pro what's the deal what's the scheme how many safeties we gonna have on the field at a time these are the things I need to know I want to know them all any so the next thing is I mean do y when it comes to these young cats some cats don't like to listen to Young cats because they feel like oh this young cat don't know nothing because hey we were only a couple of years apart he don't know as much as me and I I think I'm do pretty well it's that leadership and Authority so or transition to coordinator might present challenges in establishing authority over the more seasoned coaches and players so you know when you get up there get a little long in the tooth you get a little cocky and then you got to deal with a guy who's closest close in age to you so he's got to ensure he respects the leadership presence in the locker room and on the field if doesn't that's going to be a potential harder right there he's got to be able to respect Roan in his experience he's got to be able to respect Marlo and his position to be able to lead these gentlemen on the field he's got to respect Williams you know he's got to respect the the older older guys vanoi all of them he's got to figure out a way to use their experience to make the best out of this team McDonald did it so he should be able to do it too but if he doesn't that could be a reason that this thing falls off the tracks then the potential for growing pains you know what these things they don't just turn out perfect y'all see in remember of the Titans every you know you just can't stick everybody on the dag on same bus and expect everything to roll out just fine you know you got people who are trying to get checks you got people who are in here for one year trying to do a pro a deal that are in that contract year that maybe playing a little bit selfishly we don't know what we're going to see but then of course you combine a new head coach actually a new defensive coordinator in that things may not turn out the way we thought they were going to turn out I'm not saying we G to fail I'm just saying that these things could be a possibility of the topics that they're going to talk about on ESPN or NFL network if things don't go right for us so it's the firsttime coordinator or might face a learning Cur in managing the entire defense game planning making real time adjustments you know at halftime usually Harbaugh goes in there and takes his off is like move your hand move your hand everybody move line up line up everybody don't put your hand in the way because then they come out second half swinging and I'm hoping like I said I'm hoping he's just bar switch in this is just a fully talented cross stitch full of just Playmakers that's going to make him look amazing but of course you know we seen what happened with the 1996 Lakers this was a talented roster was through the roof and it couldn't get it all done because it was a lot it was too much tal and not enough role players all here we go uh and the other reason is uh or excuse me inside the growing pains initial Growing Pains could impact the defense's performance during his adjustment period so I've been hearing a lot of talk this is just talk I don't know our first four weeks of the season I think five weeks but the first four weeks from what I can see are tough matchups I mean we got we're at that Dallas and Jerry's world you know that's one of I think that's like we three but we go weing in Kansas City I'm not you know I'm I'm happy to go see the game but I mean just look at it as what it is we are going in to the enemy's Den to play the game and then you going back to Baltimore I think you're facing the Raiders and then going to Jerry's world it's just it's a tough schedule make sure I got that right because I think it was Jerry I think it was coming back home for a game and then going out to Jerry's world so if we looking at it okay we're talking Chiefs Raiders Cowboys bills so these are tough four tough matchups Straight Out The Gate somebody somebody said that we may go one and four I don't believe that now the least bit but I do think it hinges on what type of defense coordinat this guy is going to be that offense is going to be okay as long as the offensive line is there because we got all the things we need right now we have our future Hall of Fame running back we have a two-time runaway MVP we got one of the twitchi receivers out there in Z we got Rashad who knows what he's going to be if he stops like being this little troll on Twitter and and doing the clapbacks all the time he actually focuses on his game maybe he'll show up we got two of the best tight ends in football who knows what we can have Nelly I ain't gonna forget about Nelly Nelly is actually out there practicing with Lamar so hopefully they have that chemistry that they need offense is gonna be fine as long as that offense of line if they figure out who's gonna be the starters whether it be VES F all that they got to figure it out defense is where my heart is where I'm thinking that there could be a major issue so basically in summary his familiarity with the ra Ravens retainability of players modern analytical approach and strong they're all strong reason for him to be successful however that relative inexperience the potential for challenges and establishing Authority and The Growing Pains they present those obstacles because you know it is what it is when you jump on a new position they're going to have his challenges it's not going to be as smooth as possible it's not going to always be perfect but you got to figure it out roll with the punches any [Music] who here go before you go with the Haymaker you just can't come out there going haym maker Haymaker heyer with the person who's better at throwing hay makers all Delicia says uh R Brookie legitimately think he's raving the rest of his career he'll be moving to that Jimmy Smith role in a few years if you go look at Jimmy Smith stats and you look at Marlo stats they are extremely comparable I think they are like either they have the exact same amount of interceptions are within one of each other it is crazy how their careers have panned out and almost mirrored each other stat-wise so and I like Jimmy Jimmy is my favorite Raven ever as far as I mean I say ever ever of course it's LJ you know I love LJ but I Christan Cal but I mean Jimmy was one of my favorite because I predicted him from the jump to come to the Ravens and like the scary situation happened as far as the roller coaster with his draft and then him coming to us like by the time I come out to the bathroom like I see Jimmy on the with the Ravens jersey I'm like this is this is great you know it was it was a dream come to true and this dude he showed up for the Ravens I don't care what Brooks said you know he when he was healthy he was that dude all right here we go uh Lisa says how will Zack or do in his rookie season as defense coordinate I'll let you guys answer that uh hey yeah I've already told him he a't no leaving alloud I will fight him if I had to look you just can't keep fighting everybody you can't keep fighting everybody Brooke you gonna get arrested I seen it delicious says I definitely expect some growing pain with or McDonald first year at the beginning was wasn't great but he was great at making adjustments and I think that's where you're going to see like hey I want I want it to be I want it to be this year I do but you give a year two Zack or and things start to go well this team could rise to new heights that we hadn't seen but it just it's going to take them growing through and hopefully they grow and get through everything they need to get through this season and that way like playoffs time they're in the right position Lisa says uh be careful or you'll be in John's dark it's been bad it's been D folks you over here setting off car alarms just to see kids run when they sit next to your vehicle I mean it's it's been bad I miss Sports I really do miss football I a't say
