you're watching old Knights backyard tech coming up this week the lawsuit against Oracle involving four thousand odd women and agenda pay gap dispute gets upgraded to a class-action by a judge but we know these big tech companies have a way of weaseling out of it from backyard tech this is the weekly wrapup being a Sunday morning the weekly wrapup is back morning everyone and only one story I want to give you my opinion on from this past week of tech news today videos and that's the Oracle lawsuit that got upgraded to a class-action by a judge with $4,000 women now saying that Oracle's being discriminating against them when their jobs are at the same level as their male counterparts but they're getting paid less now and I want to get into a gender war over this my opinions coming from the fact of we've seen it in the past where a judge has sided with the plaintiffs in this sort of legal I don't know what he want environment for one of a better term and often we find that either there has been a judgment against Oracle so the judge has come down in favor of the plaintiffs being the four thousand odd female employees or big temp tech companies like Oracle fear a public backlash so they go with an out-of-court settlement and force the plaintiffs to sign a nondisclosure statement we know some tech companies hold grudges when they're put up at court and often what you will find in some cases not every case but in some cases these tech companies will will take those employees who went them andreas on them somewhere else where they can't cause too much trouble for upper management taking on Oracle lobe is fraught with danger what with Oracle and Google being at loggerheads for ages over Java Google's own pay disputes and and and bias against women IBM with their massive clean-out of older employees for New Age employees what I see happening though is there's a 50/50 chance here of one of two things happening okay the first which is a 50/50 chance is it gets chucked out of court and they're told to sort it out through mediation and that's sort of when you get the out-of-court settlement with a nondisclosure statement being signed or the judge sides with the plaintiffs or defendants had to be the plaintiffs yes it wouldn't be the defendants because Oracle's the defendant the judge sides with the plaintiffs and they win and Oracle's forced to increase their pay once back at work though you can guarantee Oracle will move those employees to other areas of the operation to keep them out of the road and lessen the the public image of Oracle being bruised and battered if it's not already now the other thing that could happen being a class action more employees sign up mob mentality now that could actually do more damage to Oracle very quickly okay very very very quickly the judge upgrading it from a lawsuit or class-action does put a whole new light on the matter and having been around legal people in the past there's a 50/50 chance two things happen on that side the mob mentality increases so more female employees say hey I'm Sonia Perez I'm getting screwed by Oracle and then Oracle get dragged through the mud that can hurt their public image or they end up settling their differences in court Oracle are forced to pay so much but then they can also make those positions redundant into the future we know when you come up with a up against a large tech company the likes of Oracle Apple Microsoft Amazon Google IBM you name it 4,000 employees is really a dot on the radar they're not going to worry about not when you consider the size of Oracle's workforce globally even just in the US so my theory is and I say theory is it'll be pushed to mediation there will be a settlement I ain't non-disclosure statement because Oracle won't want to bash their public image even though the public image has been bashed by US Sun Microsystems Hardware people for the destruction but nevertheless I would say it'll be kept quiet Oracle doesn't want the public backlash in fact no no none of the big tech companies do because it's not a good look for their public image so my theory is it'll go to mediation it'll be settled out of court and they'll be in on disclosure statement sign meaning those employees can't say boo and then probably twelve to somewhere between 12 and 24 months those positions will become redundant and possibly those people will be redeployed within the organization tends to be what happens sometimes in some tech companies now the other one I just want to touch on - before we finish up this week's edition of the weekly wrapup is the five-year-old who stole the mum and dad bank collateral being the family for be or SUV wasn't really a 4-wheel Drive was more SUV to drive to California to get a Lamborghini now we know the bank of mum and dad is sometimes very popular and like any bank they need collateral and they need a source of security now obviously that five-year-old being an entrepreneur and the enterprising young fella decided that the collateral would be better for the Lamborghini you've got to admit some kids are sneaky old mate used to be but you've got to give him credit okay we know the math the banker mum and dad is fairly good even if you have a slightly dodgy credit rating they're still reasonable unlike your major banks the problem is when you take the collateral and the security of the family SUV in order to purchase against new collateral being a Lamborghini there's a very large price discrepancy between the two isn't there work that one out stick around that's the weekly wrap up for this wait guys we'll see you through the day we're gonna have a look at those two or three Dell Optiplex is coming up for you soon have a good one Cheers [Music]
