Donald Trump now has a bigger challenge than he did when the former president was running against incumbent President Joe Biden polling consistently shows a very tight race in North Carolina between Trump and vice president KLA Harris and that includes the latest poll from East Carolina University as Donald Trump continued to show a lead in North Carolina the odds just seem stacked against Joe Biden Biden's debate performance and overall physical demeanor contrasted with the attempt to assassinate Trump wrote its own story then it all flipped that narrative has been sort of tossed away with kamla Harris and that strong versus weak doesn't seem to to fit here um and that I think has been one one of the reasons that we've seen such a fundamental shift since our last poll a new East Carolina University poll of North Carolina voters has Donald Trump only one point ahead of Vice President KLA Harris well within the three-o mar of error most Republicans approve of Senator JD Vance as Trump's running mate but Harris's pick of Governor Tim Walls gives her an edge in moving the needle ECU survey research director Peter Francia some voters may be perfectly content with JD Vance but they know Donald Trump and they were going to vote for him no matter who he picked but Harris uh certainly got looks like got a little more uh of a boost from her supporters for her selection of Tim Waltz inflation the cost of living and the economy top voters concerns followed by abortion access and border security voters were also asked about the race for North Carolina governor Democratic attorney general Josh Stein carries a six-point lead above Republican Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson just last June Stein was only one point ahead up until recently voters weren't that familiar with either candidate that's changed both campaigns sort of ramping up their their advertising and and voters see those ads and it makes a difference now uh there is still plenty of time between now and November so the the current lead that we have Josh Stein with it's very possible that those numbers could tighten even a bit more as we get closer to November and we're also taking a look at how confident North Carolina voters are with the upcoming election Michael Highland will have more on that coming up at six o'clock
