well duh [Music] [Music] hi everybody and welcome to Mile High Sports today I'm Sean drotar that's Nate londy it feels like a Tuesday but it's not it's a Wednesday because we' got liver day off uh can it be Friday not quite yet but hey dang it take what you can get and be happy mate it's Wednesday and it's only the second work week of you know work day of the week that's pretty good can't really complain about any of that nice to have you yes I can I can complain about anything I was just about to say pick a topic snow peas I we anything I'm telling you we I can find a way to about anything SN I I'm I'm GNA call you on that snow peas okay so there are some times that you go to the restaurant like very popular to be added to Chinese dishes okay snow and there's times that you can tell that they have been sitting on those snow peas for way too long because you know how the ends of them get really stringy no y see you don't have snow peas often enough Gotta Have gotta have that snap to it it's just it's don't I don't trust a restaurant that doesn't have fresh veggies I am uh okay learned my lesson telling you man I I can find a way to complain about anything man trying to complain about this at least I had somebody tell me they were G to unfollow me on Twitter no I will not call it X Twitter uh because I was just bitching too much and I was like man where have you been exactly yeah not where the hell have you been though Pat San is not not going to complain however no George pton general manager of the Denver Broncos in the offseason said it was a no-brainer to get a deal done with Pat certan the Broncos did that today multiple reports including our own Cody roko of my High Sports you can check out the story right at the front page record fouryear extension with the Broncos the extension will kick in after the 2024 season so prior to 2025 four years 96 million 77.5 of that guaranteed which by the way in the NFL is the only number you actually should care about but the annual value of it of 24 million sets the bar now highest for quarterbacks next is jier Alexander at 21 AJ Terrell and Denzel Denzel Ward at 20.2 Jaylen Ramsey at 20 those are the only five $20 million a year quarterbacks or at least C tan will join them when it kicks in next year ninth overall pick in 2021 this is just the going rate I am not sure that pater 10 is yet Jaylen Ramsey at this point point but he's obviously extremely good best quarterback in the league considered at least one of the top three by his colleagues in the NFL I think that's kind of all you can ask for yeah he he's the top one here's what I think is really interesting because I I I expected his contract to sort of be the I'm gonna set the bar kind of moment right um and I have to be completely honest I thought it was going to be higher than this thought it would reach that 100 that number yeah actually I really did um and I think that when you look at this deal um you see that I guess in its simplest form I think Pat prioritized the guaranteed money over the aav over the uh average annual value smart um which which is what every football player should do in my opinion but um I I really thought he was going to set a Mark that was going to be somewhere in the 26 to 28 range is honestly where I thought this was going to go um so I think this actually kind of worked out for everybody if I'm being honest um we have harped on this for a while um that this team has so much cap space starting next year and you knew that some of that was going to be eaten up by whatever Pat did uh for his contract right like a big chunk of that 100 million plus that they were sitting on on paper going into next year was going to get eaten up but they the the Broncos George pton and Company shaved a little bit of it Off made more of it guaranteed which I think makes a lot of sense especially at his age and wound up with a win-win Pat sets the Mark he's got you know generational money and the team holds on to the guy that I believe hands down as the best quarterback in the league well and he's definitely the Denver Broncos best player uh surveys from from players and Personnel have the certan is maybe the best corner in the league also remember Quinn Miners got an $80 million extension earlier in the offseason so some of the money is going to go to that as well but what you're seeing from uh Shawn Peyton's Administration with George pyton here of the Denver Broncos is that not only are they bringing in their guys but they're also looking at the players that work for them neither miners nor ceran uh John pton guys they were here before but they go out of their way to reward those players and I think after the departure of Justin Simmons I say departure after the Broncos waved Justin Simmons who is now with Atlanta the best two players on the team were certain and miners those were the best two players the Broncos have that's not great when your offense's best player is a guard but it is what it is and now the Broncos reward both of those players so uh the the next step for ceran who when you talk about at least in in coverage a per Pro Football Focus which you always have to take with a grain of salt but uh in coverage rankings at least was ranked 16th in the League last year overall as a Defender among quarterbacks was 20th that takes in a couple things into account too but when you're colle leagues basically say you're the best or worst in the top three with Ramsay and maybe s Garder depending who you talk to you're in good shape but the next Leap Forward for ceran has to be a little bit more of what we saw against the Jets last year against well you'll be able to see it is now teammate Zack Wilson Wilson looking down the field and it is intercepted pser k seven career interceptions for ceram four of them however in his rookie year that part has to go up I understand he's a skilled technician I understand uh that he basically shuts down the other receiver for the most part obviously nobody shuts down every wide receiver yeah Devonte Adams has gotten the best of him once we we get that but the next step has to be to take the ball away we've talked about this before Nate and we've talked about it on this show that today's NFL defense es because of the way offenses are structured and the rules benefit explosive passing offenses now it's less about limiting points and field position and more about generating turnovers remember statistically on average recovering a fumble is worth three points getting an interception is worth four it's larger because of course the returns and the possibility of a pick six but that essentially equates to points forer tan now the highest paid corner in the league starting next year that's got to be the next step now he can't improve that and let then let the technique drop off but without Simmons especially who was a ball Hawk the leading NFL Interceptor since he came into the league the Broncos have to find someone to take the ball away who more to look for than the guy who's the best quarterback in the league yeah you need somebody to be able to take the ball away but I I also don't want to put that much pressure per se um on on ceran yes interceptions are great so are past deflections and keeping the best receiver in check and those kinds of things that allow your team to have more chances on three and out four and out five and out defensive stands um yes getting the ball back and playing the field position game and helping Bo Knicks out from that standpoint is big but I hope that Broncos fans don't sit back and go oh well you know he's not worth this much because he doesn't get picks I think that in a lot of cases look we it's been said many times by coaches by analysts Etc that too much weight can be placed on sacks absolutely right too much weight can wind up being placed on sacks yes pressures are more important and you miss out on pressures you miss out on hey uh uh you know fill in the blank you know Alex Singleton Von Miller whomever they didn't get the sack but they forced the quarterback to be so rattled that they just launched it into the third row of section 124 or threw a pick right so I want to make sure that we don't get too caught up on what his interceptions numbers look like right and pay more attention to how he grades out in shutting these teams down or at the very least taking their top or their or their second best receiver um and neutralizing them and if he can do that he's worth every penny and I believe he's worth every penny because I already told you I thought the deal was going to be somewhere between 26 and 20 a year not 24 so he's worth all of it and you're right do you want to see a little bit more of that of course you do but if his presence Shan on that side of the field and with that receiver is something that then allows a takeaway on the other side right um if his pressure forces a quarterback to look left instead of looking right because they're afraid to throw it in his Direction sometimes good things can happen even if it's not NE necessarily patting ceran numbers yeah you talk about passes defense 14 is a rookie 10 in his second year 12 in his third year that's been pretty consistent the interceptions have gone down but the tackles have gone up now some of this of course is the understanding that they're going to pick a lot on the other side of the ball right now it looks Riley Moss is going to start opposite certan and and he has a lot to prove obviously that's what you and I would do right yeah but there's a lot to prove there but you're right because when you look at interception leaders last year Heron Bland of Dallas among quarterbacks stands out because he had nine but how many of those are because Michael Parsons or Demarcus Lawrence was breathing down the quarterback's neck then you go down a bit to the sticking with the corners not the safeties safeties get to play center field a little bit you have rul Douglas travarus Ward Derrik Stingley each had five nobody else had more than four so it's not as if you're seeing a massive pick numbers across the board as teams continue by the way we talked about this with B Knicks yesterday as teams continue to actually shorten the average depth of Target as to make sure these are quicker shorter routes allowing the receiver to run after the catch the likelihood of interceptions go down because prioritizing now completion percentage or the minimal interception percentage has really become how quarterbacks get graded so that is a fair point you're making Nate and that don't necessarily look at the interceptions because teams are scheming plays to eliminate interceptions because of the potential risk because they're basically worth four points on average if you throw one that's why the the touchdown interception ratios across the league have continued to get better and better for the best quarterbacks so congratul ations to ceran obviously makes a lot of sense good for the Broncos to get it done now their best two players taken care of in ceran and in minors they'll be with the Broncos for a long time now the challenge is finding out who's opposite him Marley mosque is the first crack at it it's it appears Levi Wallace likely to be in that mix but you talked about this before including yesterday maybe the Broncos if not their biggest need close to it might be finding a solid starter opposite ceran you might have the slot covered with jquan McMillan but you have to find somebody else who can start opposites C tan so they can't continue uh to to go ahead and pick on one side yeah I think they have to be able to do that but that goes back to the conversation that we were having yesterday about um look if if you find it on this roster you know giddy up hope that's what you want but if it's not if it doesn't wind up working out that you have it on the roster that is why I said yesterday that it is not the worst thing in the world if this team winds up with a high-end pick again next season because they might be able to use that for somebody on the corner end of things they might be able to use that to replace Garrett Bulls at left tackle there's a lot of advantages to that if in fact you don't find it on the roster and then on top of that don't forget what we were talking about in terms of if this team is moving in the right direction the opportunity for that to be attract to free agents and you might be able to bring in a veteran to line up opposite of him and not can't pay another guy 20 mil plus no but you can find somebody that you can put opposite him that is maybe better than what you realize you have with Riley moss and I'm hoping that Moss works out but let's say you need something that is a little bit more concrete or a little bit more productive than what you get out of him and if that's the case then structure what you decide you want to do with some of that free agent money utilize the fact like hey man come line up opposite Pat San wouldn't that be cool um and and then everybody then everybody comes away happy so I think you know look these next 18 weeks are going to answer a lot of those questions um in terms of where you think you can go in the draft where you need to go in the draft um but I'm happy I actually had somebody ask me over the Labor Day weekend whether I thought that um C Tan's deal would get done and I said I I said I don't know whether it'll happen by the time the season kicks off but it is going to happen soon um I just had a gut feeling that they were not going to let this linger out there and I'm really glad that everybody came uh to an agreement this is a this is a good deal I think this really works out well for both parties uh the Broncos save themselves a little bit of average annual value um while at the same time um you know Pat gets that guaranteed number that you and I were talking about yeah that's a big number that's the important part of it so congratulations to Pastor 10 we'll talk more about him I tried to get that number last night I I bought a mega million tick but I didn't win no so no 77 point i' it was like 680 or something like that oh well yeah was like yeah it used to be you could buy a team with that kind of money would flip and be here right now if I won that I'm sitting by myself and Nate's texting he's like sorry be hosting you'd be hosting with Alex Becker right now Sean yeah well Nate's sipping my on nobody's heard from nobody's heard from Nate this morning he vanished the location services on his phone say Cabo yeah wow well well he should have at least told us he was going to go we'll be able to do that obviously and you know what if you're looking to to to move to Cabo because maybe you won Mega Million so we know the people you need to call yeah I don't care whether you're looking for uh your first property uh if you've decided it's time for you to be able to dive into the Home Market maybe you're somebody that does investment properties maybe you're doing flips who knows what it is that you're doing maybe uh the kids have moved out and it's time to be able to downsize that is where our friends at Key Real Estate Group and the Colorado luxury home team come into play Dave and Mark have spent more than 25 years in the same offices so when you want somebody that understands the Denver the Front Range the Colorado Market these are the guys because they've been here how much more local and direct can you get than guys that have spent two and a half decades in the same office is actually just a stone throw away from our Studios where we're sitting right now daavid Mark can get it done for you and when we talk about Colorado luxury home team it doesn't mean that you have to be in the market for a luxury home it just means you're getting luxury service that's what it means it's not a matter of how many zeros are sitting there on what your budget is and what you're looking for this is all about making sure that you are taken care of from the moment you reach out to them to the time that the ink is dry on the paperwork they are with you every step of the way they do not waste your time by handing you off to an assistant when you reach out to Dave and Mark you are working specifically with them it's that easy and so I want you to do it you can find them online at Key real estate at group.com keyal estat group.com or if you want to jot this number down 720 900 list L 720 900 list and when you reach out to Mark and Dave do us a favor and tell them Nate and Sean from Mile High Sports sent you yeah a good golfer too by the way good golfers well he's a good golfer because he distracts the heck out of you if you've ever golfed with Mark he wears like you know the outfits that John dily wears yep yeah Mark puts him to shame same yeah same store it seems like Mark's pants that they can see from the International Space Station okay these things are obnoxious as all get out and so he's great to bring with you if you're doing like a scramble charity tournament because he'll distract everybody else and you just lock in as a forsome and you hoist that Trophy and then you you know if it's me then nobody notices the all the putts I'm missing but for the Denver Broncos now as they get ready for Seattle on the opener the the receiving Court takes Center Stage courland Sutton at least for this year kind of handled with the little contract tweak as we talk about contracts with ctan but Josh Reynolds added Reynolds they had to back off a little bit and then the question is what about Marvin Mims Marvin Mims was the first draft pick under Shawn pyton in the second round last year turned out great second Team all pro made the pro bowlers a kick returner but the impact as a receiver didn't really materialize now in the first preseason game of course maybe a sign of things to come for Broncos fans you did get to see a connection with with Marvin Mims and one B knck Nicks throws touchdown touchdown grab for Denver Marvin Mims Jr on the touchdown reception yeah the quick hit touchdown quick release quick reception quick read all of what Shawn pyton wants the question now Nate is can Marvin Mims do more as a receiver last year 22 catches 377 yards and a touchdown but let's keep in mind that as talented as he was he played in 16 games right the idea that the Broncos thought he he was ready and be more of a contributor didn't change but he couldn't keep himself on the field for whatever reason or Shawn pyton didn't trust him didn't get a large percentage of snaps only 33 targets throughout the entire year do the Broncos have to force things with Marvin Mims or are we actually maybe misreading his importance as a receiver and maybe it's the turn game where he was named a pro bowler and second Team all pro that he's really going to be a Difference Maker well obviously we need to see exactly what the Broncos and Shawn pton decide to do with this new kickoff rule so let's start there um because they do have some talented folks that they can use from a kick return standpoint whether we're talking about punts or we're talking about kick returns um I think julan mlin is one of those guys I think Marvin Mims is one of those guys but you talked about his targets that he had and how small that was you're talking about 33 overall targets which means he was sitting with 7.4% of the targets that that's it yeah and in the total out of those 33 targets by the way only one of them was in the red zone I'm not telling you that you need to bump that up we all know when it comes to receiving especially when you get down into the Red Zone height becomes a very big factor because you need to be able to keep that ball from being knocked away you need to be able to throw the little out in the end zone the sort of thing that a receiver can climb the ladder and be able to get and Mims just isn't that guy he doesn't have the height to go along with that right but at the same time if you can utilize him with some of those targets I think let's call it between the 20s right like I said I'm not I know he only had the one Red Zone Target I'm not trying to harp on that I'm actually trying to say don't bother um work him between the 20s allow him to get you into those positions and so I don't know necessarily Sean that it's a force feed but what I'm really curious to see is when it comes to the play calling does the coaching staff get to where not that they trust Marvin Mims more but that they trust Bo Nicks to utilize somebody like Mims those are two completely different conversations right they are and and the snap counts kind of buried out from last year because it's also worth noting that a couple of the guys ahead of him little Jordan Humphrey had the third most snap counts as you expected Corin Sutton and Jerry Judy now on Cleveland had the the top two but little Jordan Humphrey was next with basically 40% of the snap counts Marvin Mims at 36% Brandon Johnson at 32% Johnson the second leading touchdown receiver for the Broncos he's been moved on as well Humphrey is still with the Broncos but on the practice squad so now in theory there isn't really anything stopping Marvin Mims from getting that count that maybe uh perhaps e either Humphrey had jumping to maybe 40% of the snaps unless you look at what they think about rookies Devon V and Troy Franklin who's had a bit of a slow catchup time but I still am rather bullish on so it is kind of interesting to evaluate that for Mims the talent is there obviously when you talk about size at 511 of about 180 pounds not the biggest guy but the league has become more and more friendly to smaller receivers think about um a tank Dell think about what the the Chiefs plan to do is Xavier worthy think about Keon Coleman and buffalo a bunch of now smallish kind of what we was back in the day uh Smurfs they used to call uh on on the Washington football team back then uh as well when they smaller receivers the league seems to be going into a split wve handling it big bodied guys who are out on the sideline who make the catches to move the sticks and smaller guys who are there to go ahead and maneuver in the middle and occasionally work down the sideline and hope you catch someone unawares Marvin Mims may end up being that guy but we don't know how many times Shawn Payton is going to call that in part because as you pointed out how does it work with bone Knicks right and that's gonna have to work itself out and we you have Mims and V another big bodied guy basically Tim Patrick and Franklin who Nicks has a tremendous amount of rapport with working together at Oregon and Franklin was a guy that did most of his work between the 20s it remains to be seen but when you look at the depth and the talent overall on on the wide receiving core I don't think the Broncos actually need Marvin Mims to be a 700 800 yard guy to actually get to the levels of success they'd like to get to yeah they don't need him to be that um they really don't and and again I almost come back to what we were just talking about with Pat ceran I don't want to get caught up with with his yardage totals are sometimes the advantage is having that guy be a threat I mean as good as uh Wes Welker was when he was wearing a Patriots uniform as good as he was one of the nice things that you had with a guy like Welker was that he was enough of a threat that you had to pay attention in that intermediate yardage which could then open up what Tom Brady might want to do a little bit further down the field okay so having him have that snapshare and being part of the read and legitim part of the read as bodick goes through his progressions that to me can wind up Shawn being just as valuable as whether or not he finishes with 375 yards or 575 yards I don't know necessarily I mean yeah that's you guys that are doing your fantasy drafts right now are thinking about the yards but what I want is to be able to recognize that this guy is a threat because right now at least what we saw out of the preseason Troy Franklin isn't one it hasn't it hasn't quite clicked for him yet I'm with you I'm bullish I think he's going to be fine but but that's the advantage that you have in having Mims out there and being able to utilize him hopefully uh between the 20s Franklin's got three inches on him okay I mean Mims is about 5'11 um and I think Troy's about 6'2 yeah um so again we're talking about height we're talking about V we've talked about courland um things like that but I I want to see Mims step up but like I said I almost want to be able to preface that by saying I don't think some of the stuff that we saw last season was necessarily ms's fault if I use the air quotes there I think it had to do with his quarterback and some of those play calls and I think that Shawn Payton can feel more confident us utilizing that type of a receiver now yeah I think that's fair and one of the I'm not putting him in the Hall of Fame but you know we're making some comparisons and you look at Devon Hester at one of this year's classes of the Hall of Fame along with Mary gradishar do you know what Deon Hester's biggest year of production as a receiver was I have no clue back in 2009 750 7 yards and three touchdowns I got no numbers that's here he he he surpassed 660 yards one time in his career Deon Hester the exact point you're talking about was he effective as a receiver he was but what he really did was open up the field for the other guys they weren't always throwing to Devon Hester he never had more than 57 catches in a single year that was of course in that same year he never had more than four touchdowns in a year in fact he only had 16 receiving touchdowns in his entire career his ability to change the game in field position with Punt and kick returns and then occasionally be out there and be a threat that was what really made him valuable and while Mims has a long way to go before we start talking about him in the same breath as Devon Hester that's the idea he doesn't have to be a star receiver what he can do is help make sure the other guys are more effective and so I think the expectations for Mims with Broncos fans probably needs to change there is no statistical Benchmark you need to worry about whether it's touchdowns or yards it's again what we talked about with ceran football is a game that yes is measured by a lot of stats but as we continue to see things move along into the 2020s and there all sorts of more detailed measurements you realize sometimes the numbers behind the numbers are more valuable as Nate pointed out we talk about donon Bland at his nine picks for the Cowboys but how many of those were forced by Michael Parsons or Demarcus Lawrence they don't get a stat for that except to QB pressure so pressures cause turnovers but also pressures can cause big plays when you pull a cornerback off when safety has to go help because Marvin Mims got by somebody now somebody else is open probably down the middle of the field it's up to B Nick to read that to process it and to hit the right guy and to do it very quickly that's all what Shawn Payton's offense how it functions and now it's always functions but don't Focus I get the whole fantasy sports uh world and and sports betting where you look at certain benchmarks think that's a good game or not a good game all of these things work together there's 11 guys on the field all of them with slightly different roles and all of them are meant to complement the other one thing leads to the other and so for Marvin Mims Jr I don't particularly look at even big plays and say he's got a hit over the top for a couple big plays a year I'm not worried about that if the offense is running well but Marvin Mims isn't getting his yards this is the equivalent of nuggets fans looking at one of the games when the Nuggets win by 25 points but Nicole yic had a dozen because he didn't need it and he had 14 assists and was able to get the other guys moving so that's the way it can function in football as well so for Marvin Mims I think you have to temper the expectations statistically but look at what he can bring to the offense as and especially worth noting you don't want him to lose anything on the return game Punt and kick returns for the Broncos have been a problem for a decade until MIM showed up and he can be more important in these new rules where the kickoffs potentially can be really explosive plays than anyone we've seen in a while special teams has sucked on this team for a while can we just call it what it is it's been bad okay especially the return game and the coverage it's actually doing returns and then covering returns has been bad on this team for a while right um here's the last thing here before um before I step aside as uh I know Anil oiro is going to join you and you guys are going to talk some uh some Buffs yeah um Let me throw one more thing out there for you last season um Marvin Mims finished with 377 yards okay 154 of those came after the catch I would love love to see that number continue to be that percentage or higher of what he does give me that quick opportunity and then hopefully allow him to use some of the speed and some of the shiftiness which is why he's an advantage for this team on the kick returns and maybe so even if he only finishes with I I don't know 450 yards can 250 of those be after the catch so that what's happening is he's got just enough separation when B Knicks gets him the ball that he can actually turn it into something that's one of the things I'll be paying attention to yeah obviously it'll be a big part of give me that separation and then boom right like get get that two three yard separation from your Defender and be able to and I don't necessarily need him to take it to the house right but turn a catch that is four yards from the line of scrimmage into a gain of eight and all you have to do is put a few of those on film and then you start scaring defensive coordinators and defensive backs and then it everyone's life a little bit easier we'll find out how Mims accomplishes that over the course yesterday Cody kicked me out now ailo's kicking me out so rude you know what I'm happy with that Nate hasn't recognized it in theory I guess it's it's really me kicking him out since I'm the one that stays but anyway if you're looking for the perfect place to work play exercise and socialize look no further than the Denver Athletic Club right in the heart of CC for all the details joining us now of course actually a member of the Denver Athletic Club just saying and the host of the sco show here on Mile High Sports anilo Piro joins us thanks so much anilo the Colorado Buffalo start out their season up at fulson field with a win over North Dakota State 31-26 but to hear Deion Sanders talk about it it didn't feel like the kind of win you were looking for you ever felt like uh you won but you didn't win it's almost like we had more points than they did um giving up the last touchdown on the Run uh that bothered me because we pride ourselves on going to get the quarterback and we have multitude of young men that can go get the quarterback and we didn't get that done but I'm I'm thankful I'm happy we got the w you miss pegy is one step closer to the dream and the vision that we have for her as well as I think 31 NFL Scouts are on hand tonight and uh I think uh they saw what they came to see so let's move on from there I'm gonna try my best to hold back my anger but we got the W so I'm happy the buffalo's got two sacks now as we just talked about with Nate with the Broncos sacks are not everything precious are just as important if not more important but anilo the two quarterbacks and they they go with two up at North Dakota State I went 20 for 26 for 292 yards an average of 11.2 per and a touchdown they weren't exactly stifled by the buffalo's defense uh the Buffs had had problems especially early stopping them they did make a really good second half adjustment new defense coordinator Robert Livingston did a nice job uh that that touchdown at the end the Sanders refers to the only points the North Dakota state scored in the second half so after watching that game knowing that Nebraska is looming in Lincoln on Saturday are you more confident about the Buffs going into that game or are you more nervous than you were a week ago I think I'm more nervous but I don't think it's necessarily because of the Buffs entirely I just think Nebraska is a much better team this year than they were last year we all know that year two for Matt rule is a big stepping stone we saw him do it at Baylor uh we we've seen him do it you know at multiple stops across the league or excuse me across college football and I just think that this Nebraska team is going to be much better than the the team that they faced last year but Sean the big thing for me is um the military term or at least I learned it from Call of Duty when I was when I was a kid ssdd I'm not GNA say it one of the s's beans but it's basically same bleep different day and that's exactly how I felt watching the week one game against North Dakota State and look North Dakota state is an incredible FCS football program a high level opponent you pointed out FCS yes if you are really going to be a bull team in the FBS look I I get it North Dakota state has no pushover they've had two quarterbacks drafted in the top three of the NFL draft I understand it but you're right that was the game that was scheduled for the Buffalo to win right that that's the equivalent uh you know Nebraska got UTEP last week right and Nebraska's standard since forever scheduling the best cupcakes they can find for the first couple weeks uh Colorado not on that list anymore because really can't do it anymore but you can kind of schedule that first home game the Buffalo put this on the schedule a couple years ago expecting it to be a win and they barely got away with it and and that's probably concerning and there are things that were better the offensive line was better uh the running game was not the the running backs in particular I went and you know took just took even the stats out the Buffs are only ran for 59 total yards that's a problem again Sanders did talk about that after the game and pointed out that a win's a win and he's right but you take the the the runs by Hunter and receiver Draymond Miller out of it as well as the scrambles by Sanders here's what your running backs got you 14 carries for 35 yards that's 2.5 per if this team can't run the ball better against Nebraska they're gonna have a very difficult time winning and that's the kind of stuff that feels like the same stuff different day for the Buffalo still can't seem to get the ball going on the ground and then they seem to bail out on it and just let Shar Sanders do his thing yeah exactly a lot of improvisation from shador Sanders I feel like the LA the only game last year where they established the Run game was week one with Dylan Edwards against TCU right he was running up and down the football field but that was definitely one of my big takeaways is the lack of a running game and thankfully the uh the Buffs are able to kind of counteract that with the incredible level of skill that they have at wide receiver along with a guy in shadur Sanders who's gonna solidify his case as a top 10 pick I would I would think as the season progresses so I I'm I'm concerned about the offense but I'm more concerned about the defense because it looked like North Dakota and and you make some good points I love the adjustments that Robert living and the first half they were moving the ball at it was like North Dakota state would run the five yard out and there was like 10 yards of open field before the next Buff Defender was in the was in the screen and and that was the thing that bugged me and I've said it time and time again on the sco show with Chase I've talked about it with Danny Bailey behind the scenes I said I needed one half of football to have an idea if this Buffs team is going to live up to the hype or you know try to contend for uh you know a highquality bowl game whatever it might be I did not love what I saw collectively in the game but in particular in the first half do I think that they can correct this do I attribute some of this to early season Jitters and getting back into the flow and a little bit more of a complex opponent in North Dakota State yes but at the end of the day CU coach Prime shador Shiloh with the boneheaded FL they have to be much much much better if they want to have a chance to beat Nebraska on the road this Saturday yeah you cannot the Buffalo actually only had three penalties but a lot of them really all three of them for the most two of the three were of the costly personal valou variety boneheaded that's the concern Shiloh Sanders ended up hitting hitting a guy so preposterously late uh early in the game that it was it would have been a fourth down they would have had the lineup for field goal Sanders hits him late you get the penalty and that ends up being a touchdown that's a four-point penalty the buffalo's won by five the the game changed on that penalty and that se seems to be sort of a a thing that Shiloh Sanders can't seem to stop himself from he's trying to I guess uh you know send a message a finger quotes here but what you're doing is you're getting your team in trouble and you're real other teams are starting to realize I mean he has a reputation that he's gonna hit late that he may be borderline dirty that you can get under his skin that's not a reputation you want and that's why I think a Shiloh Sanders unlike shadur Sanders isn't going to find himself as a first round draft pi and then overcompensating for that by trying to knock everyone's block block off and putting your team in a bad position actually makes the situation worse he's got to be a lot better if the Buffs are going to do what they need to do on defense because I thought at least in this game he was actually one of their weak spots I completely agree and look if this is 10 years ago 15 20 years ago it's it's a different game ask Kareem Jackson how big hitters are you know working in in in the modern era of football both at the Collegiate and of course at the NFL level so you know they've just got to sharpen up the defense and you know Trevor Woods even looked a little lethargic out there in the first half I would say first half though I mean like there I think it was like that first big chunk play for North Dakota state where they ran down the sideline just looked gas looked slow and again like do we attribute that to early season whatever it might be but I liked a lot of what I saw there was a lot of what I saw on offense and in the second half that I was like okay they look better but the big question here is Sean and I've talked about it with Chase and and we break it down on the sco show each and every week there is a bevy of talent across this Buffs roster where's the continuity well it doesn't exist because now the second year in obviously you've been raing the transfer portal and you're right uh when you're talking about the talent especially on offense and and and by the way it's not all transfer portal Jordan seon became the first freshman to ever start uh at left tackle for the season opener for the Buffs in their history and did not look overmatched and he was a high school recruit so there is there is actually a lot of really good talent but it does need uh the continuity they need the Reps they need experience a lot of footballers understanding where someone's going to be without looking for them and that can only happen when you've actually been together for a while that's the risk of the way things are put together now that said and I'm gonna play Devil's advate with with myself here in Elo so you know make whatever comment you want everybody but think of it this way as well the Buffalo were a one- win team two seasons ago yep now they are a team with arguably and I'm I'm gonna say top 40 I'm not going to go higher than that arguably top 40 Talent on their roster two years ago they were a one win team left for dead a total afterthought now again for the second year in a row their first three games of the season are all on national TV all in Prime Time Colorado has skipped the line they have actually taken a decades worth of of rebuilding to get yourself back to relevance and that shortcut happened because they hired Deion Sanders the talent is now there too the question is since Sanders from year to year now start building and keeping these guys together as opposed to just trying to rush them all into the NFL draft and I know part of his pitch as a coach is we're going to get you to the NFL they have the most NFL experience uh in a coaching staff among FBS teams when you talk about it from top to bottom so that's the sales pitch you get on we'll get you popular we'll get you famous we'll get you on TV we'll get you nil and we'll get you to the NFL but that kind of constant turnover can be problematic as well and the buffalo's have talent and that makes it even a little bit more frustrating to watch when they struggle as badly as they did against an FCS team that is very very good but the defense really very concerning one pass deflected two sacks in total and not a lot of quarterback pressures I mean when when the opponents are completing 20 out of 26 passes that's a pretty high rate against a team that's supposed to have the kind of talent the buffalo have yeah I absolutely agree and I know coach Prime harped on that in his press conference after the game I believe he mentioned something about it earlier this week preparing for Nebraska that they've got the talent right it's just a matter of bringing that talent and realizing the potential and and look you got a guy in Warren Sap on your coaching staff arguably one of the not even arguably one of the biggest disruptors in NFL history first time coach though absolutely but you got to figure out a way to get some more out of that defensive line because as you get into the thicker part of the schedule right these games are going to become way more competitive the quality of competition is going to continue to go up and my thing Sean is yes see you won the game yes they looked better in the second half but collectively a lot of what I saw went wrong with the bus last year I saw once again in week one and that's where the red bulb kind of goes off my head of okay maybe maybe we got to pump the brakes I love coach Prime I love the the hype and the circus that is Colorado as much as anybody in this town but at the end of the day what's the one feather in the cap of the hater 4 and eight and the way that they went out sorry last season and I don't want to make any firm projections or predictions right now but if things do not change if they do not improve swiftly you might mirror that season again yeah it is a risk and and that's part of the the concern they really have to as as neilo said tighten things up and that leads us to the end of the game the the Buffs with just under two minutes to go could have basically run three times given the the timeout situation for the for the Bison they could have run three times and punted the ball with roughly and punted it with roughly nine seconds to go and then forced the the Bison with no timeouts to get a touchdown with basically one or two plays at most instead Sanders basically argued after the game that uh the coverage the cover zero coverage what because of course of course it's cover zero they're assuming you're going to run and and eat the clock but cover zero coverage Sanders said he felt it was disrespectful and so went over the top for a kill shot and which is funny is I'm sitting up in the Press Box and I'm telling the guy next to me he's trying to get to 500 yards and get a kill shot on this and I think that was happening and that's my biggest concern going forward we will see against Nebraska but Pat shurmer the the argument that that Miley Sports Mark nudson made not too long ago on Miley sports.com you can check it out the Pat shurmer is carrying the clip board for shadur Sanders not vice versa that perception has to change and until you see stuff that Pat Shermer and make whatever you will of his career as a coach any anything you'd like it's fine Pat Shermer knows better that that late in a game you run the ball you make them burn their timeouts you eat the clock and you win the game that way so if shermer's really making the calls either he had a momentary brain lock or shoulder Sanders doing is doing what he wants and that is a potential risk for the Buffalo no matter how talented he is yeah and I think we all kind of have a mutual feeling about Pat Shimmer right and just kind of how I don't really know what to make of that because I'm not a big Pat Shimmer guy we know that the Buffs do not operate in a very conventional setting and at the end of the day what's the c-word continuity you need to me you need to make sure that everybody's on the same page everybody understands what's in front of them and at the end of the day you just got to tighten it up across the board there there's no question about the talent it's about playing as a unit and if the bus can do that on the offensive and defensive side of the ball I think they'll be competitive but we shall see big game this Saturday my friend absolutely he is an Neil airo host of the sco show with Chase I'll check it out tomorrow fresh one coming so make sure you check it out I'm sure they'll be breaking down the big game with Nebraska look I I I'm I'm from CU so far back that if they had one in 10 seasons and the one win was against Nebraska I was okay with that so this one matters to me a little bit personally I'll tell you that much but I am worried about it the ESPN odds put it at 6040 for Nebraska I think it's actually a little tougher for that for the Buffs but we'll find out soon enough check out anilo and Chase on the sko show tomorrow for more thanks a lot for joining us Anil always good to talk to you content over there just search my life Sports wherever you get your podcast for all of everything that we're putting together for you for you to consume on your time frame have an opportunity to talk a little bit more about Pat San Pat San the uh recipi of a fouryear $96 million extension that ex that extension that will kick in next year makes him the highest paid quarterback in in fact defensive back as matter of fact in the history of the NFL until of course the next one but you'll take it certan had an opportunity to maybe yesterday do something even more impactful for kids that are Broncos fans than even the play on the field as Justin Simmons moves on to Atlanta The Man of the Year multiple times for the Broncos ctan looks to make take his place joining us now to talk about that is Dan Morman of my life Sports and of course the man who really gets things moving over at Colorado preps.com maybe the hardest man working in Colorado Sports Dan appreciate it today you had a terrific piece about pater tan and his gift to George Washington High School yeah Pat turns out uh he wants to take over that philanthropic role uh from guys like Justin Simmons and Kareem Jackson who've done a lot for the community and really follow in the footsteps of all the Broncos great you think back to uh Von Miller with Von's vision for kids and and the whole deal but uh he he allowed schools to basically pitch him on why they should get what he ends up calling a steam room we all know we've all heard of you know stem School stem classrooms science technology engineering mathematics uh it was really important to Pat that he threw the Arts in there and George Washington was one of two winners the other being Manuel high school and yesterday they unveiled what they called the uh the Patrick certan inspiration room is that steam room and uh he came down basically uh hung out with some of the kids who are going to be utilizing it cut the ribbon did the whole deal and it was just it was a really cool site and you know those those kids were ecstatic the this is uh this is a group of kids the George Washington is a now two-time Class 5A speech and debate Champion they're practicing in the hallways o of the school and they didn't have like a room a space of their own and that's all part of what this uh came to be so I I hung out with George Washington athletic director Brendan netherton yesterday and uh you know was there for Pat's whole deal and it was just really a a truly cool thing to to watch that he's doing for these kids here in Denver I I'm I'm sure it will shock you Dan but I I was on the speech and debate team all three years at Ponder Roa high school when I was there and uh out you didn't want to practice in the hall because there's a lot of us getting all hot bothered about our debate planks right and so it's it's not a good fit uh to have that there and obviously having a room where where now your two-time national champs can practice and get better that's obviously exciting and then to be able to use it for all of the other things as well it it is a big deal and and you had a quote from Sir tan that I thought was was really important and he said this space in these classrooms are space not just for you all but for future students at George Washington use it I want to thank my Foundation team family and friends and that's really what it's about those kids are going to be at high school for a couple of years but then the next one's coming and the next one and the next one and now they have an opportunity to build on what George Washington has done in their own space where in theory you have the opportunity and room to make it even better right and it was what's really funny about that quote is it all came out of basically what I wanted to ask him is you you might be a part of this community uh for a long time we had no idea just how close that was to becoming a reality at that point but you know how important is that to whether it's looking at high school kids or just the Denver Community to make sure that you are um investing in the community and the the fans and the people that are investing in you as a professional athlete and he he took that to heart he really looked and he mentioned him by name he looked to guys like Justin Simmons like Kareem Jackson and he really wanted to carry on the kind of legacies that they built around Denver and it's that's been a part of the Denver Broncos lore for years and years and years uh Pat Bolan was always so big on giving back to the community and um Broncos players from all eras were um more than generous with their time their money um and and really their effort to better the surround their surroundings and um Pat's very much taking that in stride and and to play off my headline intercepting a little bit of that George Washington Goodwill from from Mr chony bips yeah and it's it's that part of it is interesting too because you think about uh people who played in Colorado and obviously CH chony a native from Colorado and pater tan is not but at the same time the history of of of Denver athletes working down to the high school level we saw the University of Colorado Buffalo's practice down in Denver prior to their opener we've seen what certan has done more and more and ctan pointed out you wrote at the end of your article he was going to try to come check out their their game on Thursday as well there seems to be a little more of the understanding that high schools sports for Colorado have probably been a little bit undervalued and when you start seeing the University of Colorado of a practice that play people can attend when you start seeing things like this from ceran there is the idea that that you can boost Sports you can boost academics you can boost all of it and guess what those kids tend to grow up as fans of those organizations whether they're colleges or Pros not only is this just the right thing to do for the community and that's the best reason to do it but the truth of the matter is it's also good for business sir tan mentioned specifically I've seen how the the Broncos value the community well and I don't think I have to tell you this Sean but high school kids are so impressionable um that something like this I I would say it's it's fair to say that not every single kid in that room is maybe a DieHard Broncos fan and a DieHard Patrick ceran fan especially not to say not to say they don't like him or they don't want to cheer for him they might just not be football fans but they probably know who the Denver Broncos are they probably know who Pat certan is but if they're walking through a living room and you know Mom Dad a friend someone's watching a Broncos game and they see the guy that gave them this space to to operate their craft in that they're so excited to use on a daily basis they see him pick off Patrick Mahomes you don't think that those kids are gonna you know root a little bit overtly cheer a little bit it's um it's such an impactful class of of human beings to reach our high school kids because these are their informative years they really get to to judge you know what they think about people like Pat San or the Denver Broncos at this time of their lives and I mean let's let's think about this too with the Broncos being down you know the Broncos won their Super Bowl for these kids in high school when they were eight nine 10 years old I mean that's the reality right so it really does have a lot of value because you can see how some of these these kids may have become a Chiefs fans because the Broncos have been underwhelming for their their entire sort of formative years of maybe where they picked up football and so you're right if whether they're fans or whether they're not getting that perception and having it positive really helps and especially when your pater tan and you're rewarded with a $96 million contract extension which he earns 77.5 million guaranteed but you see guys give some of that back the people that do have plenty that give some of that back to the people that have less it there's a statement to be made that probably uh we don't have time for maybe this isn't the the format for it that the fact that you have to ask essentially wealthy athletes to help uh a public school improve its facilities that's probably a discussion for another day but the reality is it does exist and to see them step up that's a real value and it speaks to C Tan's character it does and and I know that um I don't think it's a big secret that in a lot of NFL contracts there are obligations such as this to um in there and that you know it's it's kind of a it's a privilege it's part of the privilege of being an NFL player is that you kind of you have to pay it forward a little bit and help those those who were less fortunate the thing that got me yesterday about this is part of this room there's um a space in a corner uh kind of blocked off for podcasting and they have an entire engineering setup it's right next to an athletic looking locker with a number two hanging a number two George Washington Jersey hanging from from it which I I wish I could have gotten a picture but it it was a small room and it was crowded with a lot of people but when he walked in and he saw that and he looked he's like and that's what he said is this a space for podcast and the kids kind of they they nodded their head and that was the biggest smile that he got because I think it's the idea of kids more or less adapting to something that they can be passionate about and that they can really get into and that was the one moment where you really see that he's proud of what this had become and I mean I it's my first dealing with with Pat in in that kind of environment and but you know he's a guy that I'll always root for because of giving to high school kids which is something that you know just given the nature of my professional work that's that's always going to win you a lot of points with with a guy who runs Colorado preps well the N yeah the nature of his professional work is the editor-in-chief of with us on a huge day for the Denver Broncos ladies and gentlemen Troy rank all right Troy is with us Troy thank you for making some Troy reached out while you were talking to Dan and said hey Nate I'm around if you guys want to talk you want to talk some Broncos you want to talk some pater tan so Troy is with us tro first of all making some time for us we always appreciate Troy this was not a surprise but let me start with this question are you surprised by the dollar figure or is this in line with what you expected yeah he was always going to be Nate the highest paid corner he waited it out so he reset the market that was important for the position important for him it will change in a year when s Gardner gets his deal but Pat ctan has been in the conversation as the best quarterback in the league for two years I think two years ago he was last year for me he's probably top five but when you come up for a deal you kind of owe it to your position to reset the market when you're a player of his uh stature he did just that and it's a fascinating offseason for them to get miners in the fold certan in the fold B Knicks at quarterback we're seeing the core develop around four or five players that are going to be the players frankly that are going to be responsible for getting this team back into contention yeah that's the part to to me that is fascinating Troy the idea for the Broncos now that the plan has been made clear we've seen now the turnover we've seen Justin Simmons moved on we've seen uh Josie juel moved on we've seen Jerry Judy moved on players that were considered the core before now that they have a new coure the the the plan for the Broncos is rather straightforward now it's a matter of executing it but for ceran I want to add that guaranteed money of 77.5 million the previous guarantee Denzel Ward was 44 so the the idea that it gets reset is one thing but what ctan did was obliterated the guaranteed money record by nearly $30 million so that part of it I think is a big statement by the Denver Broncos who also extended Quinn Miners so we know that the new ownership is not afraid of paying the guys that they believe need to stay around but for the Broncos at this stage now what does that mean what player may be next what what's the situation I guess after the year with with a Courtland Sutton with some of the other young Broncos players with Garrett bows those contracts maybe loom for the Broncos after the season yeah I don't see either one of those two getting big contracts because of their age now again this season it could play out differently especially for BS it's harder to find left tackles that's the reason Frank crumb's still on the roster I mean he's clearly raw and a developmental guy but there's so few good left tackles if bus goes out and plays well not star but plays well do you look to get him and finish his career with a three-year deal courland Sutton again ages working against him at 29 they're going to have roughly a 100 million in cap space this off season would they invest that in Sutton or go look for more of a true playmaker and again Sutton was great last year I'm not saying he wasn't but I would not be surprised if bulls and Sutton are not on the team next year i' give bus a better chance because of his position and then after that you know you see is Javonte Williams part of the core moving forward typically running backs don't get a second deal anymore in the NFL so who's next in line from the that group is Baron Browning going to be that guy with a big season uh it's just a fascinating season for four or five guys but if you ask me between bus and Sutton I would give a little lean to bus because of his position it's so hard to find R tackles he wants to finish his career year here could you get him for a little under market value on a three or four year deal so he could finish here Perhaps Perhaps Troy when we uh and Troy ranks joining us having uh with the news this morning about pater Tan's new contract and all of that uh Troy when when you look at Pat and we talk about this payday and all of that obviously Broncos fans are really happy that he's here uh you know we're just coming off you know Sean was just talking to Dan about what he's done uh for the local schools with their stem rooms what he just did at George Washington yesterday and that story is posted up at M High sports.com and I know that you've covered it and talked about his work in the community as well one of the things that Shawn and I talked about right off the top of the show today is what sort of U success looks like for Pat going forward now that he's on this big deal and I make the argument that yes you would love to see him pull in some of those interceptions the kinds of things that uh Justin Simmons did for this team but it's more than just that it's his ability to be able to wreak havoc on the opposing quarterback isn't it it's not necessarily stuff that's going to translate into raw numbers well I I just posted a column Nate on denverpost.com saying Pat earned every cent of this deal but we need more picks I need him to take a few more chances now again it runs against his DNA to do this he's so disciplined he's so correct I mean I he's more polished than pledge and he's been this way since he arrived he's been their best player but they're going to need him to take a few more chances and here's what I talked to Chris Harris about this a little bit ago for him to be more of an impact player I want him to get more takeaways so how does he do that two ways in my opinion and Chris Harris agrees one Vance Joseph has to free him up to guard the best receiver on the other team almost all the time let him follow that receiver because they're not going to just not throw to their number one receiver receiver it doesn't work that way secondly they're going to have to Blitz and use ways to Blitz the opposite side to force quarterbacks to look his way a little more not a lot more again I equated this to like Aaron judge he's gonna get intentionally walked but when he gets his opportunities you need the extra base hit and with certan the way he his talent is they just I'm saying I'm asking a little more from him he is their Champ Bailey guys champ ended up with some picks now the game was different less safe bubble screens and all these five two and three yard passes but there's still plays for Pat to make that instead of just going for the deflection I'd like to see him take chances and will that give up a few more yards sure that but that's fine his hands are great I want to see him in position to make a few more plays so fance Joseph needs to Blitz a little more he's got a freeze certan up to follow the top receiver and I would start this week with DK metf because you're not going to tell me that if he's on meta goino Smith going to just say I'm not throwing to Meda he's going to throw to Meda and if he throws seven times Pat's going to have a chance to get a pick on one or two of those balls certan named one of the Broncos six captains today the players selected those the other ones is Will Lutz on special teams Alex Singleton the other defensive captain on offense courland Sutton once again Quinn Miners named one of the captains we talked about his contract extension and then of course Bo Knicks my question would be about that as we we pivot a little bit is this sort of the pro for of because because the starting quarterback always gets to be the captain or is there something a little bit different you believe with Nicks well I'll say this I I do roll my eyes and you can hear my eyes rolling right now at some of these Captain things because I'm never sure who counts the votes there's been a number of teams I've covered where guys end up captains and I talk to players and they're like I don't know how this happened because we just don't feel like in the room we voted that way and that happens sometimes with young quarterbacks there's no doubt I would say this case with Nicks he's not not your average rookie he's 24 61 college starts he won over teammates with his you know essentially his football IQ and Poise in the preseason so the idea he got voted Captain I don't think that's that far-fetched normally I would say it's the rookie quarterback it is but with him because of his experience I don't know that it is but I mean like Quinn Miners is a captain last year mlinci was and I think anyone will tell you mcglen is the leader of that room so I don't know I just the captain thing it does doesn't mean it that much to me except for the fact when things aren't going well it's on the captains the onus on those players to publicly be accountable both in the media and with teammates at times I do think that is part of their responsibility I think I'm old school that way but if you're gonna make somebody a captain and you have a bad game that person needs to be available and talk and explain it I don't want to talk to the reserve Nickelback about something if the play is with patan now Pat 10 is always available post game but I'm just giving you an example for me I see captain ship a little differently not only is it holding your teammates accountable but you are often you need to be the face of the team after a game especially losses to articulate that and I think they have a good group there but I always kind of roll my eyes and shake my head at these captains thing it's like American Idol who counts these votes we hear about everyone voting but nobody knows who counts them and I'm not saying that's the case here I just it's not a public election it's not true democracy because we don't know who counts these votes that's obviously a bit of a challenge there we're talking with Troy rank of the Denver Post also the host of the Broncos podcast uh with Troy rank talked about that a little earlier today and Troy uh what's on top for this week well again we have a podup this week already that popped yesterday that's on YouTube and on um on my audio both with Spotify Apple all those places you find the Pod but Parker Gabriel from Denver Post is on there breaking down just kind of where the roster stands now uh expectations for Nicks and some of that and then on Friday I'll have at least one player interview and we will preview the Seahawks game this is a winnable game guys I don't know right now that I'm picking them to win I I like the Broncos to hit the over this year at six I see they're cealing at eight I don't see myself as we sit her today picking him to win on the road at Seattle because of that environment but uh the podcast on on Friday I appreciate you bringing it up Sean it will be a preview about Seahawks game and I can't thank your partner there enough Nate Lundy NE Neil the guys that have put the pod on YouTube the fans in Broncos Country have really taken to it so just another reason why I'm at Mile High Sports as your guy's Insider you've been great to me well Troy you've been great to us and your coverage um you know I think one of the things that always makes you valuable is one you've got a uh you got a great personality you're never afraid to call things like it is but you also you you know the teams in this market you have spent time uh in the Coors Field Clubhouse you have spent time at Dove Valley you have followed the Nuggets you have paid attention to the ABS you have seen what's happened at CU through the highs and the lows um and so spent all these years having to deal with the Rockies yes exactly if you can put up with the Rockies you can do just about anything Troy so I think with all of that in mind I love the fact that you do this Broncos uh podcast for us that you find as you said on YouTube but I also like the fact that we can talk to you here about something like Pat San's contract and in a few months uh you know we we may be sitting talking about the return of Gabe landeskog and all of that is within your realm at The Denver Post and we're thrilled to have you buddy appreciate it my friend yeah we're going to get a set where we get times where I'll be on twice a week with you guys I can't wait looking forward to it Troy uh again this was last minute he said hey I'm available let's talk about Pat um and I'm I'm grateful for you jumping on we'll talk to you later this week you got it my friend take care thanks for having me on absolutely so much there he goes Troy rank from The Denver Post make sure you're reading his stuff and I know that um you know I know that there's a lot of things about um you know the post and and our friends at The Gazette and all of that and there are subscriptions um that you can sign up for that frankly are not that much I got to be honest with you um folks I I I know you see this on social media and I know Sean and I are biased support the local journalists please that are doing this kind of work um and bringing you this kind of coverage and that includes things like like Troy at the post that includes um our friends at the Denver Gazette um all that great job for the Broncos exactly all of this is stuff that you have an opportunity to be able to support just sitting here watching it or subscribing to the podcast is great we really do appreciate it but please make sure that you recognize that those kinds of things are what keep these guys going and keep bringing you the kinds of things um that Troy does and and that uh the rest of the crew does in the print media so um hang hang tight with them and if you see you know you get that offer that shows up in your inbox like hey sign up for The Denver Post for there's six months for this or 12 months it's like 12 months for 12 months just just just ju like Nike says just do it yeah just do it obviously Troy's story right at the uh top of the Denver Post sports page right now so go check it out but the that the the situation there with with certan and then miners obviously the Broncos are not afraid of big paying out big money because the last offseason they spent the most of any team on the offensive line adding mlinci former captain and Ben Powers so this this Broncos ownership is not afraid to spend you've talked about the cap space that will be available they're obviously this year it's tight it'll still be a little tight next year as well because the remainder of Russell Wilson's has to fall off but the Broncos have moved on from some of their higher paid players they have they have go now this is a team that is settled at the moment as a matter of fact for Broncos fans that want to get excited about something this is as the 53s stand today the third youngest roster in the NFL fun isn't it it is and that's I think the trick you have some pieces that you know you can build with you know you have certan and he's here for years miners is here for years we'll find out the idea with the uh Baron Browning perhaps Baron Browning Jonathan Cooper maybe one's a critical piece they're both free agents at the end of the year so there is a lot to deal with still but great news for pater tan great news for Broncos fans excited to have their best player period bar nun under contract for at least this season and four more after that so we're going to take a look uh at some of the the situations with the mdl starting tomorrow about favorites for the Super Bowl we're going to give you ours not not necessarily going to worry about you know the odds but if you're one of those people well Nate you know we've made it easy for you yeah we sure have you go over to M High sports.com folks and whether you're doing that on your mobile app uh that you can actually download the Mile High Sports mobile app by the way I make sure you do that or if you're looking at it on your phone your tablet the computer whatever it is you're going to see a button in our menu that says Colorado online sports betting it's that simple Colorado online sports betting and it is what it is but the beauty is we are not as a group as MHS we are not locked in with one book um and more power to our friends in the media around here that have their own very specific Partners but we chose to kind of be Switzerland when sports betting became legal three and a half or excuse me four and a half years ago um so we have an opportunity to talk to all of the books and we have an opportunity to find out what all of their offers are across the board and on that page on the website we brought them all together right so all of the best signup bonuses all of those kinds of things and it allows you to just sit there and you can sit there with your thumb just scroll through find the ones that make sense for you right so for example Fanatics right now is doing a deal where they got the Jersey drop they got this thousand dollar in bonus bets they got all that kind of stuff maybe that is something that piques your interest maybe it is a deposit match maybe it's some free bets maybe it's that no risk uh opportunity off the front end whatever that might be when it comes to what you're looking for for yourself we've brought them all together and then you can choose all you got to do is go to that page the call online sports betting page at M High sports.com and you're going to see all of the books lined up there find the offer that makes sense for you and sign up through that page and when you do the beauty is Mile High Sports gets credit for it we have partnership deals with these guys so we appreciate it if you sign up through our website it's kind of a uh an easy uh you know kind of a a friendly way for you to be able to support all of us here at MHS the same way we were just talking about the subscriptions that you can do with the post in The Gazette well signing up for one of these book offers through us is how you can support us so we would appreciate it it's the Colorado online sports betting page at M High sports.com the NFL season starts in Earnest tomorrow night the Ravens and the Chiefs will kick it off a terrific terrific game to start the season and we know the Chiefs now the two-time Champs they believe they can make it three in fact don't ask me asked Patrick Mahomes from their parade a couple months ago well for real though we appreciate everything y'all do showing up to Arrowhead every single week we know we had to go on the road last year but I promise you next year we'll be at home and we're going for that three piece and don't get forget get it twisted we're doing it three times first time in NFL history we doing it love y'all let's Sean don't get it twisted yeah let's be fair don't get it twisted y'all yeah he's not wrong they are the favorites as you would expect uh to go for the NFL's first three Pat in Las Vegas uh the Chiefs are at plus 500 to win the Super Bowl the next best the 49ers at plus 600 and then nobody passed a thousand but that's not the way we want to look at it now we're not NE I'll give you the odds Nate but I want to see if they syn up for you right okay we got so let's start over in the NFC the ners are a plus 260 to win the conference now that's actually the best odds of anybody because the AFC is so stacked as we've talked about the Chiefs actually have longer odds but the Niners are plus 260 followed by the Lions and Eagles tied at plus 550 are the ners Lions Eagles to your mind the three best teams in the NFC no uh they're missing the Packers I think the Packers should be on that list okay um I have said that I believe the Packers are making it to the NFC Championship Game and have a very good shot of being able to do it I think we saw Jordan love make a really nice jump um last season and I think that as long as he stays healthy um that they can do that again so uh do I believe that the Niners are in the conversation yes do I believe the Eagles are in the conversation yes do I believe the lions are in the conversation yes um I believe that the NFC North is going to come down to Detroit and Green Bay flip a coin um as to who takes it but I believe that they are both making the playoffs and I believe that regardless of whether they win the division and therefore have a home field or whether they wind up as a wild card and have to come through with a slightly different path um I believe you're going to see both of those teams in um the postseason and uh you know frankly winning um early on within the postseason so um I think Green Bay belongs um in that conversation as well um I I continue to go back and forth Sean when it comes to a guy like Brock pie Green Bay by the way is fourth yeah they're four followed by the Cowboys Falcons Rams and then just ask just ask anilo the Cowboys have no shot um so when we're looking at uh when we're looking at the NFC um I believe those are the four that we need to be U that we need to be having a conversation about um I still haven't decided what I really believe is real and unreal about Brock pie um I hate to phrase it that way but I kind of am it's like I I want to believe in the guy um but I also the system yeah it's a fair question is it the system is it like I I don't know I I don't I don't know the answer to it and neither do you if you're watching this show because I think we just need to see more of a sample size from him but um I believe that those are the four teams in the NFC um barring something weird in how the brackets align I believe those will be the final four I I think the two best teams in the NFC are clear it is the Niners and the Lions I I think that's absolutely true and I'm just remember that every now and then Jared gole shows up okay just remember that folks and I I think that the Eagles actually may backslide I don't think that makes them I don't think it drops them out but I'm kind of with you I like the Packers a lot and and maybe this is me Health has to be holding up for the whole year for everybody which is probably why they're not a good bet but do not sleep on the Atlanta Falcons because the offense if Kurt Cousins is healthy if he's all the way back from the k injury this is a team that can be explosive they can be dynamic they have two top tier running backs in in bejan Robinson and Tyler Aly they have receivers all over the place Kyle Pitts could have a big jump we saw what he did we saw what cousin did with TJ hackinson last year there's a lot to like about Atlanta but they have to be healthy all year long or forget it so yeah it's really then the Niners and the lions and even when you put it that way it's the ners it's the ners until it's not and that's why they are the favorite of any team to win their respective conference but over in the AFC the number one team as you expect the Chiefs at plus 325 then the Ravens at 500 so the top two teams perceived in the AFC going against each other tomorrow night then the Bengals at plus 700 and then let's go down a little bit the bills in Texas tied at plus 750 then Jets sneak into the top six at plus 900 I wouldn't touch the Jets with a 10- foot pole but the Chiefs and the Ravens are the class of the AFC to my mind and again Health permitting I have no problem putting the Bengals ahead of the bills but I do have to ask not only when you're ranking those teams in the AFC okay Cincinnati Mike Brown the owner what are you doing with Jamar Chase he's not gonna practice until he gets a new contract and I don't blame him because what have you got hurt during look at Tim Patrick the last couple years I don't blame him you're going to pay Jamar Chase anyway your game is on Sunday what are you doing and until the Bengals get that right it's hard to take them seriously correct um I don't know what Cincinnati's doing just P Jamar Chase I truly I truly don't by the way his number just goes up every day I mean he so here's the thing he's practicing today which means they must feel like is this like Trent Williams when he showed up because we're like we're close I I don't know just Jamar Chase is going to get paid just get it over with already look what the Broncos did they knew they were going to pay P they took care they took of it today look I think um I think the AFC is the Chiefs and everybody else um I hope that somebody can make a dent in it um I think you're gonna find out exactly who Josh Allen is without Stefan Diggs um I think you're gonna find out exactly who Cincinnati is when you watch Joe burrow uh coming back this season uh I think there's a reason that you see good odds for him as comeback player and things like that um I think you're going to find out those kinds of things out of those two teams um from an AFC standpoint I am not buying the Jets I am as on record as saying I do not believe that Aaron Rogers will finish the season either um I think that once you have a B major injury like he did that injuries tend to follow I hope I'm wrong I hope he plays the whole season and all of that this is just my gut telling me that I don't think that that is what's going to happen and therefore I'm not buying the Jets um I do think Miami is intriguing um and I also think that Houston is intriguing to be honest with you I think Houston at number five Miami is behind the Jets at a plus 1200 to win the AFC I would put them ahead of the Jets I would put them ahead of the Jets but I understand why the Jets are where they are and and why I mean look there there's a reason why people are picking them frankly plus the points against the Niners on Monday night uh to open up the year with the Jets um so I I think those are theam is that line uh it's down to four it was it opened at 6 no thank you it's at 4 now um and a lot of people are on the Jets on the spread to be honest with you it's about 60% of the money right now so um but I think Miami is intriguing but I'm also kind of intrigued by Houston I mean you know we've seen what CJ strad can do there's some Talent on that on that team they added Joe Mixon at running back they added Mixon you're talking about there's just there's some Talent there you got Diggs we were just talking about him so um if I'm looking for a long shot if I'm looking for a real long shot on the AFC side I would probably I would probably put Houston in there Houston okay Houston makes sense that's I looking for something that's got value on the money if we're talking about the betting side of it I would put money on Houston or Miami Miami in this case Miami with a a lot more at that plus 12200 the Broncos by the way only ahead of the Patriots plus 7500 and we both agreed here that sounds right the Broncos goal this year should be to make the playoffs but if they don't hit it that doesn't necessarily mean this season was a failure part of what this season is is a rebuild and you've seen in the off season prior to the game that opens on Sunday that will start the season for the Broncos you've seen Quinn Miners sign to an extension you've now seen Pat San signed to an extension the Broncos core is starting to form if Bo Knicks starts to look like the guy right then you know what the Broncos plan is that's the goal this year so uh making the playoffs would be great you'd love to do it it should be the objective although you realize with the Chiefs there it's probably a wild card at best is what you're shooting for but that's not really where the Broncos are they are in this game and I agree with Troy ranku who was able to pop in and join us a little bit yeah I do and we'll talk about this more as the week goes along we'll have Troy back on Friday to discuss it as well I do think this is a winnable game for the Broncos I really do I don't think we can make a statement either way about the team whether they win or lose it I think if they lose it uh and they lose it in a close battle I think you'd be pretty happy with that if they get blown out maybe that's a discussion uh if they win at all I think it's great but I don't think you start punching any sort of playoff tickets but this is going to be a week-by-week affair where we learn more about this team in small little bites if might not be with the wins and losses it may be with drives a certain Drive offensively that leads the way a certain drive that is stopped pressure on the quarterback the idea the Broncos really want to get after the quarterback they have a lot of guys that can Rush the quarterback but have never consistently produced at the NFL level do you start seeing that that's how this season's GNA be measured by success not by worrying about if they're going to make it to the Super Bowl or even the playoffs can can I go off topic for a second why not because this never stopped because this just happened a second ago Kyle schwarber now has four home runs in his last seven at bats that's solid he led off the game he led off the game for Philly in Toronto first pitch was a ball second Pitch went over the fence seven home or seven at bats four home runs in the last seven at bats and on top of that because this is what everybody got lost in in the fact that they had that he had the three home runs yesterday yeah lost in that was that the the way that he was playing he went five for six y'all it's not like he only had three home runs he also had a double and a single so that means he is six for seven in his last in his last seven at bats he is six for seven with four home runs and seven RBI Philly's running away with the nle seven game lead on the Braves Anil New York Mets creeping up as a Francisco Lindor making legitimate MVP push if he were to drag the Mets back into the uh the playoffs I keep in mind of course only two teams eliminated from the playoffs in the National League oh my goodness schwarb the uh the class of 93 the Rockies and the mar by the way Toronto turned around and has taken the lead in the bottom of the first anyway so it's another one of those like last night's game was 10 to nine it looks like we're headed in that same direction again because schwarber let off the game with a homer Toronto has turned around and scored two in the bottom so yeah I just I just wanted to throw that out there because you know one of the fun things about baseball season from a sports betting standpoint is that you can do things during the daytime which I always think is fun uh that you can place bets uh during the afternoon and then that's what happens is we sit around here in the office and we're just like staring at the TV we're like hold on like hold on Harper's up to bat hold on we got to we got to check that we got to we got to pause this thought or in the case of when the Rockies are playing in the Day game and we've all taken the opposing team minus like one and a half the Braves tonight of course the Rockies at 520 by the way get ready for the scoring tonight because if it was only three to nothing yesterday against the Braves even with all the injuries the Braves are dealing with you're not feel about a Bradley block on the hill for the Rockies we're not going to we're not going to be holding uh we're not going to be holding that lineup back uh for very long uh when you've got Ozuna and Company so yeah yeah this one might be like eight to one maybe that'll be what it is it's not it's not great it's not great to be that rock Lord schwarber yeah if you if you'd like more of ailo Piro by the way you can always check on the lock on Rocky postcast anilo will host that a um he hosts that and it's very unfiltered for you Rockies fans you want get off chest yeah that's that's that's the spot is youry for the Rockies uh baseball America's latest minor league reviews uh Chase dander the Rockies first- round draft pick last year fifth overall prosp overall prospecting baseball per Baseball America Charlie Condon the golden spikes winner out of Georgia who the Rockies just drafted already the number 19th ranked League bring him up let's have some fun cond will be here next year might be as well it's why you draft col get him your I've said I've said times shut off the humidor and just turn it turn it back into the Blake Street bomber go back to beer league softball you are not going to get Ace pitching in Denver so shut off the humidor and let's let every game be like 11 to seven I miss it I miss it I do go for it just yeah do it unplug it who cares you can't sign you know what else that'll do it'll be entertaining as hell you know why because chicks dig the long ball that's why I want Kyle schwarber in C field without without a humid or I can tell you that Kyle schwarber you know why he hits those home runs because he's got the shirt open like the chain and he also swings like he's driving a golf club he is up and out he looks like a guy that show that just showed up at the bar and is about to Steal Your Girl beer league softball fun stuff baseball is fun when other let it happen play it what are you gonna do fortunately it is football every game at cores you get a run like Taco Bell will end that promotion in a heartbeat because there will be seven runs every single time yeah and in the meantime courfield will get some excitement this weekend because they hold three consecutive concerts on Friday Saturday and Sunday so maybe a little more entertaining there we got Kane Brown yep um and then who's retro Saturday
