Alberton saw an electrical grid alert Monday night due in part to the scorching temperatures we've been seeing this week it's not the first one that's happened this year but it comes after the province's electrical grid operators said capacity was being increased the Alberta Electric Systems operator telling city news in a statement it was hot temperatures and an unplanned thermal generation outage that caused Monday night's grd alert the alert only lasted a little over an hour it's not of surprise with air conditioners and fans running constantly to get edmontonians through this heat wave yeah we got fans at home we keep everything closed and dark so it's not too bad but yeah we we turn stuff off when it happens but we're barely running anything right now anyway edmontonians I spoke to Tuesday afternoon who were trying to beat the heat tell me they're without air conditioning but using the next best thing a fan to stay cool the aeso is asking albertans to conserve power during 400 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. which they say is peak hours uh yeah definitely we'll turn it off yeah while albertans are being asked to conserve electricity it's not the first time this year the province has seen a GD alert after an alert in April the electric systems operator told Alberton work is being done to increase Baseel load capacity I reached out to the ministry of affordability and utilities for their response to the grd alert and Alberta's electricity Market in an email telling me there's still adequate Supply to meet demand the ministry also pointing towards electricity Market reforms that came into effect at the beginning of this month designed to address economic withh holding which they say will lead to more reliable power generation in the province while some albertans may be sweating higher power bills with air conditioning units and fans running constantly others not so much I sleep in the basement so that kind of helps a bit so folks aren't worried about power bills with air conditioning or anything like that oh no that's my that's my parents job exactly reporting from Edmonton Darcy rchan City news
