'Kamala Harris was in control' | Presidential Debate Analysed | LBC

enough of the debate possibly the most significant moment of the whole night came soon after that finished [Music] it's no Taylor Swift wasn't at the debate but she announced that she would be and she told her quarter of a billion followers she'd be backing Harris John soel is my Global radio colleague co-presenter of the news agents and the news agents USA he stayed up to watch the debate last night so you didn't have to John joins me now what was the moment you dropped your popcorn John morning to you oh Nick I mean I thought the moment you know the clip you just played there about they eating the cats and dogs in Springfield Ohio I just had visions of maybe you or me as Cub reporters and some and some editor barking at us right Ferrari like the word barking like the word barking well done Ferrari you're off to Springfield don't come back until you found me someone who's had their pet eaten and you know and I I I just think that that will be the bit that sort of resonates sticks out and I I also thought that he went over the top on abortion where he is vulnerable uh because so many women oppose what has happened and talking about how children of babies are being executed that is not happening anywhere and that was another thing that he was fact checked on and I just wondered the clip you played where Donald Trump was absolutely on strategy was when he was talking about um the the fact that you can't Divorce Yourself from what Joe B has done kamla Harris that was good but he was that was one brief mention he should have been trying throughout to tie her to Joe Biden instead of which she was laying little traps like talking about that that was a complete deliberate thing that she did when she talked about the crowd the crowds disappearing uh Trump rallies because she knew he would rise to the bait and every time he did whether it was about that whether it was about the election having been stolen in 2020 she wanted to paint him as the past and herself as the future you called it last night of course what Trump sought to do was to get this sort of headline grabbing moment that will swing the vote in those key States could this be people eating dogs well it gets the headline does it help him does it help him or does it make him seem slightly absurd I I look I'm sure among the Trump base they were cheering last night but the Trump base does not get Donald Trump the keys to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in November the Trump base is fine but he needs to build out from that base he needs to build out moderate opinion Liberal Republicans Independence people who live in the suburbs particularly white college educated women who've turned against him and I think that performance coupled with as you rightly point out the influence of Taylor Swift and let's face it in America women vote in Far higher numbers than men generally and but Cela Harris is enjoying a 10 plus point lead there well I think that all presents problems for Donald Trump what will the two sides about say about another matchup John Donald Trump bring it on camela Harris nah I think we'll sit this one out I think camela Harris's people were absolutely delighted with the way it went and that's partly because the bar was set so low you know Donald Trump had tried to depict her as some kind of you know kind of radical inarticulate fumbling fool who's not capable of looking after herself in the debate Arena she was I thought pretty much in control last night she wasn't great first question she was asked was you know is the economy are you are you better off than you were you know four years ago the classic US Presidential question she didn't even attempt to answer the question but the moderators didn't pick her up on it nor did Donald Trump I thought oh God you wouldn't appear on the Ferrari show and get away with that and so she wasn't that great she was okay but but she did enough and I I will be surprised if there's another debate before November the 5th finally you've identified the key swing States this was in Pennsylvania who do you think uh won who comes away with a win with a W in the column from Pennsylvania it's going to be so tight and the margins are going to be so tight and I think this is you know the last time you know know we talked about this yesterday this is as tight as we've ever seen a US presidential election in the last 25 years you know tighter than four years ago tighter than eight years ago so I I I'll be amazed if there's a huge movement in the polls but I would suggest at the end of this if you're ask you me put my neck on the Block I'd say uh you know let's go back to cats and metaphors you know she muled him last night John soel I should tell you there's a special episode of the news agents USA available now John thank you for your time John's my Global radio colleague co-presenter of the news agents and the news agents USA that special edition available now special episode
