Instant Reactions: Auburn beats Alabama A&M 73-3

and welcome back to Jordan Stadium where the alurn Tigers picked up a 73 to3 win over the Alabama A&M Bulldogs tonight Logan what are your main takeaways from this game yeah man offense came out hot uh scored 21 points on their first three drives uh six plays from scrimmage three touchdowns um so they didn't they didn't waste much time coming out here and lighting up the scoreboard uh Payton thorn in that wide receiver room showed early what they've been working on all off season um you know it it you know was against the Lesser opponent sure but uh I guess that is definitely refreshing for Auburn fans and coaches to see that kind of performance on the field from pton Thorne and those wide receivers it is nice to see that um it's probably been a while since album had that many guys make a catch in the game and they all be newcomers the young guys in this room really showed out tonight yeah yeah you had Malcolm Simmons led the team with three catches and 91 yards uh Keandre lamber Smith was right behind him per Thom with the long 70 yard touchdown um cam Coleman I think cam Coleman might have had like two Targets uh but first catch was a 44 yard touchdown man uh so yeah a lot of a lot of newcomers making their Mark early um you can't forget about Caleb Burton who uh almost scored there kind of got tripped up there at the end of The Catch and run but yeah man they uh they've definitely improved that room um and and definitely helped pton thorn in that passing game for sure absolutely and then you look at the defensive side just three points allow no matter who the opponent is that's impressive in the first half Auburn forced five three and outs I don't even know how many they forced in the second but this unit was on it tonight yeah man they were they were on it a couple sloppy penalties a couple of rough in the passer penalties they want to get cleaned up um but yeah some really nice goal line stands uh when A&M would get um in the Red Zone uh held him to just three points not I touchdown scored in the game um Jayla McLoud coming off the end had the uh Team high in tackles with five Robert Woodyard had a good night man came out of his shell uh glad to see that for him um lot of lot of young guys got out there on the defensive line Malik blockton made an impact in this game amaris Williams made an impact in this game so um a lot of depth on that defense and they definitely play with a lot of intensity for sure they did and kind of going back to J West Hunter we talked about him a little bit earlier kind of a quiet night only I think 53 54 yards something like that but he did that that explosive 34 yard um touchdown run at the beginning of the game and I'm kind of surprised he didn't really have another play like that yeah uh I mean his first first touch on the game was was a touchdown uh I I think I tweeted out during the game uh new season same Jor quz on the second second carry of the game for Jor quz he hurdles a Defender um so it's always exciting to see when he does that but yeah kind of kind of a quiet night uh 50 something yards Payton Thorne was the second leading rusher for the team tonight they didn't they didn't run the ball a whole lot man they were airing it out kind of seeing what these uh wide receivers could do but um yeah I wouldn't I wouldn't expect much of that going forward I wouldn't either and we all know what lives ahead next week an SEC ACC match up between the alurn Tigers and the Cal Golden Bears right here at Jordan stadium and I know what everyone's thinking that being an SEC ACC matchup is weird that's never not going to be weird yeah but that's what wies ahead next week and we look forward to covering it yeah uh Cal making the cross country trip uh coming down here next week for a 230 kickoff um I would not expect that game to go how it did last year I would not either I think this crowd's going to be uh into it the whole time um you know Cal's not not used to playing in a stadium like this where the crowds going hard for four straight hours so um yeah man uh should be a good game can't wait to cover it I'm excited footballs back um but yeah man Auburn made a had a good game tonight with a 73 7 three to3 win over Alabama A&M um lot to unpack but we'll get to that a little bit later
