I'm Matthew AR Miller horror writer if you say my name three times I will appear so let's talk about Beetlejuice Beetlejuice the sequel to Beetlejuice the classic 1988 horror comedy film that took the World by storm especially Goths and people who love Darkness yes so boy I don't know what to say about this I guess I'll give a few spoilers okay so it's Allstar cast I mean you have some of the ogs right Michael Keaton uh WIA Rider of course Monica beluchi Jen tigga or Orga sorry um William defo Arthur KY Danny deito had a little role and others now Jeffrey Jones who played the father in the original Beetlejuice let's just say he's had some legal troubles that would not be a good look for the film if they had hired him so they got around his missing presence in a in a couple of pretty creative ways I have to say now it is uh I write horror comedy and horror but horror comedy and that's what the film is that's what the series is right it's a sequel to an 880s classic a classic and people who saw the original Beetle Juice when they were growing up I mean you he's taking a big risk to try to try to follow that up right it's like following a big star on stage and then like how are you going to follow that my God and there are some good and some bad I'm going to say about this film part of the original 1988 beju charm was the kind of chaotic cartoonish nature of the film right it's very cartoonish and a lot of ways this one did that pretty well in a lot of ways but I'm not going to say it was exactly the same they captured a lot of that cartoonish nature but again you're you're comparing it to this a classic it's like remaking a Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata why would you do that so the good things creative filming there was some series there are some clation some miniature models black and white flashbacks um there's a little bit of new Beetlejuice lore to his backstory I like that kept some of the old grossness but not as much as the original film and the the Soul Train gimmick is I thought it's actually funny and kind of clever but they just maybe went on too long okay so the cons are the H I'm not shes they're trying to relive anytime you're trying to relive 80s film of any genre it's an uphill battle the ' 80s was a classic time for film for youth culture um and boy it's really taking a risk to re to redo that or to try to better you know up one it it does lack some of the chaotic slapstick from the first Beetle Juice which was a big part of it um and you know uh if you're going to try to make remake our fa do a sequel to an original classic80s film especially this kind you know think about this when this came out 1988 it was new no one had ever seen a film like this it was just weird and funny and and creepy but fun you know and so you either have to have some new idea right that's completely new or you have to be incredibly clever and this film tries hard but how are you going to have a new idea to top Beetlejuice it's pretty clever but it's not as clever as it could have been the ending was a little weird here's the main criticism I have of this film there was a main plot a almost main plot and then a third subplot all three of them were mostly wrapped up concluded resolved too easily and quickly okay like especially the subplot uh let's just say uh Jenna artega character subplot it's just wrapped up to easily and it's not it's it's not fun when there's not a challenge and then the you know the ending um was funny it's kind of weird uh might have tried a little bit too hard and this is what got me there are some musical numbers which I'm fine with I love musicals and I love it's not a musical film but it had a couple of musical numbers which I'm great with but really MacArthur Park is what you going to go with at your musical number like the in my opinion the most Dreadful boring song ever made okay that's just me uh so good and bad yes both um will it ever live up to the or original 1988 Beetlejuice no way no what can you know uh but for what it is I'll say it's pretty fun it's nice to see some of the original characters back uh it's nice to see Michael Keaton back so that's kind of some Nostalgia there uh but overall um I wish they could have done better they certainly could have done worse so it's it worth a watch yeah go see it you have to see it but uh just don't be too disappointed don't be too overwhelmed this is my thoughts what do you think I'm Matthew AR Miller horror writer and I'm just going to say Beetlejuice Beetle Juice Beetle Juice
