Love Next Door: Why Jung So-Min hid her illness from her family?

Why didn't Bae Seok-Ryu inform her family  and friends about her health condition? Why did she hide it from them? Bae Seok-Ryu was determined not to  cause her parents any more worry. Her brother had been sick when he was a child,   and seeing the impact it had on their parents  was something she didn't want to repeat. Witnessing her parents' heartbreak  over her brother's illness was an   experience she wanted to avoid for them. Bae Seok-Ryu didn't want her  parents to worry about her,   especially since she lived abroad in the U.S. It would be difficult for her  parents to take care of her,   considering the cost of traveling back  and forth between South Korea and the U.S. She was their parents' only hope, as she  attended a prestigious university in the   US and worked for a highly sought-after company. Their parents had high hopes for her to live a  better life, unlike their own mediocre existence. And, the reason she didn't tell her friends,  especially Choi Seung-Hyo and Jeong Mom,   was because she was afraid that they would  tell her parents, as they are close to them. So, she became dependent on her  ex-fiance, Song Hyun-Joon, in the U.S. When she faced a problem and was fired from her  company, she immediately called her ex-fiance. She appeared to be hyperventilating  at the time and got concerned when   Song Hyun-Joon did not answer her phone. The climax occurred when she noticed  Song Hyun-Joon with another girl. The only person she could  rely on had betrayed her. She was at a breaking point. That is why she decided to return  to South Korea, her hometown. Furthermore, she was still unable  to disclose to her parents the   nature of her illness and the true reason  behind her breakup with Song Hyun-Joon. We also believe that she will not  disclose her illness to her parents,   particularly since they disapprove  of her ambition to become a chef. She does not want to dispute with  her parents any longer; therefore,   she may think about going back  to the US with Song Hyun-Joon. Even though Choi Seung-Hyo and Jeong  Mom supported her in pursuing her dream,   her parents' disapproval left a big impact on her. She didn't expect their parents  to oppose her dream like that. We couldn't imagine Bae Seok-Ryu's parents'  response after learning about their daughter's   condition and the reason why she got  fired or resigned from her company. They might blame themselves and think those things  that happened to Bae Seok-Ryu were their fault.
