Dan Mullen Breaks Down How To Attack Alabama's Defense

well I think you know what one of the things that you look look at what Tennessee was able to do in the game was they wanted to control the matchups you know and anytime you you want to play Alabama and you know Greg knows this too and when you watch the Alabama defense obviously Tennessee spent a bunch of time on that game trying to move forward you know within their their program uh it would seem in the off-season is you know Alabama's I guess trying to I want to try to keep it simple for everybody but they're very much a formationally based defense right so that they they're gonna face things they're nickels gonna make Nickelback or their Stars what they'll call them is going to make the call to set the defensive formation and so a lot of times when people put the formation in the boundary and that is you put not not the tight end to be but the receivers into the boundary or slot receiver and the boundary that forces Alabama's Nickelback into the boundary uh at which point then they're kind of set in where he is and then you'd see Tennessee use some uh some different motions and really spread the field out and what they were able to do by putting it in the boundary and forcing the Nickelback for Alabama and the boundary is limit what Alabama could do defensively and Tennessee was able to create the matchups they wanted you know and especially it looked like with the matchup with Jalen highlights hi it's the one they loved is creating the match up and with different switch routes and whatnot of getting him a speed guy matched up against their safeties all day long and that's where they had success with him running by them vertically down the field
