Netflix will not be moving forward with a second season of dead boy detectives greatly disappointing fans who were hoping to see the story continue shortly after the news was broken the two lead stars of the series shared their reactions on social media George rexr who played ghost detective Edwin Payne suggested gested he was heartbroken by sharing a broken heart emoji on his Instagram stories Jaden Revy who co-starred as Edwin's partner Charles Roland opened up a bit more with a post on X Revy chose to look at the positives feeling grateful that he had the experience of working on the show he gives credit to his fellow cast and crew along with the fans who have shown their support all throughout his short-lived dead boy detectives Journey just wanted to come on here and say how forever grateful I am to dead boy detectives Revy said I met some of the most talented people I know and above all met you all you're the heartbeat of the show and our Legacy will live forever in this community it's not exactly clear why the series was cancelled but it could be speculated that its streaming numbers just weren't high enough for Netflix the show was critically acclaimed holding a score of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes with an audience score of 90% it initially debuted strong with its viewership peing at number two on Netflix's top 10 list of English language TV shows but it had fallen from the top 10 after its third week of availability the series was developed by Steve Yaki who served as co- showrunner alongside Beth Schwarz it takes inspiration from the original comic book series by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner the series also starred cassus Nelson Crystal Palace Brianna coko Jenny green Ruth Connell Night Nurse YuYu kidura Niko Sasaki and Jen lion Esther Finch dead boy detectives shared a universe with the Sandman initially the series was intended to be a spin-off of the now cancelled series Doom Patrol during production the decision was made to instead develop dead boy detectives as a sandman spin-off set in the same universe as the Netflix series Kirby and Donna Preston reprised their respective roles as death and despair from the Sandman with cameos in dead boy detectives and it's likely that there would have been other connections explored in a potential second season it remains to be seen if characters from dead boy detectives will pop up in the future of the Sandman which has a second season of its own on the way
