49ers’ roster foul-up of 2020 is now key player for Jets

all right everybody thank you for joining me on this uh Facebook live um so today is Thursday this is the day that you know the forers have their first real practice getting ready for uh that game on Monday night the season opener week one against the Jets and so um the the practice week really starts now and the forers will have you know their guys out there um the full Squad with uh Brandon iuk and Trent Williams and Christian mcaffrey and all those guys now available in practice and start the game plan situation start the game planning to face the Jets and so uh when as we flip from you know kind of the chaos of the offseason and training camp to where we are now um this is a very intriguing week one matchup and you know where does it start um you know obviously the the story lines across the league and and on Monday Night will'll Beat Aaron roggers you know back remember just think of the hype of of a year ago uh when he had that uh you know the season opener against the Buffalo Bills and uh that lasted four plays Leonard Floyd gets in gets the sack Aaron Rogers sustains a torn Achilles he's out for the season and now here it is again you know a whole year to kind of uh you know of more talk to to build and this is a huge season for the Jets with Robert Salah Aaron roders uh Jets have not made it to the postseason in a very very long time so that's where we are now um by the way we I am uh thank you for uh for joining me here on this Facebook live and so I'll try to answer as any many questions that I as I can see here um but you know Aaron Rogers against the 4ers defense obviously a huge storyline in this game and also when you think about Garrett Wilson um one of the top flight wide receivers in the NFL and you know dador Lenor and charar Ward a chance for those guys to step up immediately so you know that entire 49ers defense uh especially the defensive backfield will be tested in this game Lenor charvarius Ward you know the safeties Jer Brown George odm at least I would assume that George odm will be in the starting lineup over taleno hanga who just turn to practice um and so the the 4ers defense when you when you think about it this game with with um Aaron Rogers Garrett Wilson Bree Hall you know so there's a lot of these guys will be tested individually um and I'll try to just pick off these questions as I see them I I don't expect gendo to play Monday night uh 49ers are pretty well set I think um unless he can contribute on special teams right away we'll see see where that goes um and so uh with Bree Hall you're talking about a guy thousand yard rusher 600 yard receiver uh huge game right off the bat for Fred Warner but also the 4S run defense and so U we we'll get an idea of where the run defense is with Malik Collins being kind of the key addition to that team as far as being able to stop the run on the interior but also um you know we talked about Leonard Floyd coming from the outside um if you flip it to the other side this is also intriguing the Jets have a really good defense and you know they have one of the top corners in the league SAS Gardner and he's a guy that the the Jets anticipate having Shadow the number one receiver more often this year than they have in the past so are the 49ers a kind of offense where they have a true number one receiver that will warrant the Jets putting their top cover guy on him and just sticking to him I kind of think that's not the case especially early in the season um as as Brandon and I you did not take part in the offseason program or training camp so I think it's going to be my guess would be the sus Garder we kind of will line up on one side and whichever receiver comes to his side that's who he's going to uh cover um and looking at the the Jets defense it also kind of strikes me you see who the other cornerback is and if the 49ers have made you know every team uh obviously is not perfect when it comes to Personnel decisions but probably the the easiest Personnel decision to second guess one of them anyway is the decision in 2020 to wave injured DJ Reid really good player uh he was getting ready to start his third NFL season uh with the the 49ers and he had a a PE injury from lifting weights in the off season 49ers decided to wave him because they felt like they couldn't just keep a roster spot open until December that's when they expected him well the Seattle Seahawks pounced on him and and signed him uh claimed him off waivers and he ended up that year starting eight games for the Seahawks and appeared in 10 games well he's turned into a really good player and he's on the second year of a three-year 33 million contract now with the uh Jets now it's it's also worth and fair noting that the 49ers appear to be just fine at the at the quarterback position and that happened so long ago with the 4ers still have been able to retain DJ Reid on that kind of contract um they ended up up obviously signing charvarius Ward to a threeyear $40 million contract a couple years ago ward in the final year of his contract yador Lenor in the final year of his contract so those are two guys that um the 49ers are expecting big things from this season and it all has to start Monday night against Aaron Rodgers and the Jets okay I'm gonna now um look at some of the questions and answer some of the things you have uh I know there was a question about taleno hanga and I don't know uh where that's going to um where that's going to fall today maybe we'll have a better indication but my thought would be that it's probably going to be Jer Brown uh and George odm at at lighting up at the safety positions in this game on Monday night and I would think that maybe they'll just kind of work in huanga a little bit u a little bit more slow um fish and chips agrees with me about the DJ Reed decision update on Ricky P Ricky peara is doing fine saw him at the facility on Tuesday um he's on non-f football injury list but the the belief right now is that um shortly after he's able to U practice and be activated that that very well might happen so right now in the meantime the 49ers do feel pretty good about their wide receiver position with uh obviously Deo Samuel Brandon IU Jawan Jennings Jacob calling and also Chris connley who expects to be uh active for this game uh do you think CMC uh Nigel asked do you think CMC and Mason will split time in the back field I don't know about splitting time but I do think that there will be a priority on getting Mason into the game more watching uh mcaffrey in practice off to the side over the past couple weeks um he looked like he's fine so there's not going to be a pitch count or anything like that but I think 49ers will definitely make a priority to force Mason onto the field get him out there just to take some of the wear and tear away from him uh Pedro which 49er player has the most to prove on Monday oh that's a good question I think a lot of guys will be tested um one guy I'm gonna look at is Colton mckivitz um mckivitz is a guy that forers really think highly of um he started to on at the end of last season had that really good game in the NFC championship game against Aiden Hutchinson I think the fers expect him to really Elevate his level and on the other side of course there's Trent Williams going up against you know the for of Defense uh offensive tackles will be going up against a couple of firstr draft picks that the Jets have out there uh 2022 first- round draft pick Germaine Johnson 2023 first round draft pick Will McDonald so I know the focus a lot of focus is going to be on on Williams but um watch and see how how cultimate kibitz does in this game uh let's see here can the 49ers defense stop the run I think they'll be better stopping the run because of milie Collins he is a load in the middle and with him and Jayvon Hargrave I think that's a better tandem as far as that goes uh how much has Prague traveled back and forth with 49 contract negotiations and leads I don't know specifically how often he's there but yeah I mean he's he's he's working both sides of it is utor grm going to play um I believe he is uh we we'll see we'll get a bit better indication uh once he gets out on the practice field once the team gets out on the practice field a little bit later so um I just wanted to to touch base and now you know what I gotta be going because uh oh Maverick are the are the GM and the coach on the hot seat not at all I think um I think the are uh I think if you look uh objectively around the league um and you and I think anybody who who has followed the sport list the top GMS in the league top coaches in the league I'd say uh uh joh John Lynch and and Kyle Shanahan are I don't know what what what the number would be top five typ top six coaches and general managers in the NFL so no they are certainly not on the hot seat okay that is it for me um I am going to get out of here if I can figure out
