from NBC News NYPD commissioner resigns amid federal investigation and why for one split I mean why do anybody follow the rules at this point but why for one Split Second would you think that you were going to have a city of 8 plus million people that are going to obey the law when their own Police Commissioner is embroiled in scandals and I think he was tied up in some Kickback scam with nightclubs and that makes perfect sense because he works for the The Nightlife mayor Rick Adams and this is fairly similar to clear across the country in Oakland California when mayor Shang ta fired the former police chief not commissioner but police chief and it took her more than a year to replace him and she said the reason that the police chief got fired was because of police misconduct and then she's under investigation herself but that's not really what this is about my name is Eric this channel is called report and opine please like comment share subscribe hit the notification Bell I'm absolutely begging you I'm begging you please come on please it would help me a lot and cost you nothing but if you wanted to help me even more and spend a tiny bit of money you would buy my book New York City 2020 Gotham unglued on amazon.com that link will be in the description We are following breaking news the commissioner of the New York City Police Department has resigned today amid a federal investigation NBC News has obtained Edward Ban's resignation letter which was sent to the me to members of the police department earlier today kaban took over the department in July 20123 after being tapped by mayor Eric Adams who's a little bit over a year and he worked directly with mayor Eric Adams and then you got Kickback Kathy hokel and Andrew Cuomo who were working with a Chinese spy and the former lieutenant governor who was forced to step down obviously cuom was forced to step down the weird black blind guy who is the the governor between Spitzer and Cuomo was also uh implicated in some weird scam and of course Elliot Spitzer who I do know personally I never got the chance to ask him about politics because I worked for him but that again is not what this is about these people are corrupt to the core and I don't know I don't think it can ever be I mean you what what are you going to do you're going to vote your way out of it you're going to you know storm the capital you can't do that as soon as you call out the corruption naturally they turn you into the criminal Administration is the target of multiple investigations right now NBC News law enforcement and intelligence correspondent Tom winter has been tracking this story really from the very beginning Tom this is all tied to the possibility of corruption in New York City that's exactly right kateen for people in other parts of the country you might be saying well why do we care what's going on at the top of the NYPD but the NYPD is the largest Police Department in the country and in the world and given their reach and the counter terrorism and intelligence and look I in my own personal experience the New York City Police Department is nothing but weirdo Kami henchman I used to call them DeBlasio henchmen so I don't think they're really doing their job now I'm sure they're good cops in New York but for the most of them if this is the commissioner why why could they watch him cut back door deals and then go out there and shoot it straight it's just impossible Fields it's likely that your local police department at some point or at least your state has received a benefit as a result of NYPD invest look at this guy in his Gucci scar this is investigation so when the commissioner steps down and as you just said it's tied to the possibility what federal investigators are looking into whether or not the police commissioner was aware of or had knowledge or directed a scheme that may have involved his brother his twin brother his twin brother okay wait so this is tied to the possibility of corruption why don't you ask about you you just completely forgot about liutenant Governor Brian Benjamin you just completely forgot about Andrew CUO there's corruption from the top to the bottom there's no way around it oh but maybe it's happening James uh in the question of whether or not James was receiving payment from nightclubs and bars in exchange for helping out with the police department and basically getting special treatment from local precincts and that's generally where this investigation center around we should know and and for the record we know I can almost guarantee that is just the tip of the iceberg oh yeah we were cutting back door deals for security at nightclubs that's that's the Le the least of it if he was willing to admit that and resign because of that you know there's much more nobody's been charged here nobody's been accused by federal prosecutors of any wrongdoing but this started last week when kab's phone was seized by federal investigators this became a huge distraction he didn't even attend the 9/11 Memorial ceremonies yesterday and I think it came to a point today where he said look it's time for me to step down and try to remove this distraction and he's not admitting any wrongdoing in his statement that he released right okay Tom Winter thank you so much appreciate it he's not committing any wrongdoing it's tied to the possibility of corruption and I'd be willing to bet that we're never going to see the end of this we're never going to get any closure we're never going to know what actually happened with one of the top ranking officials in New York just like we probably won't ever see the end of mar shanga and her weirdo Waste Management connection [Music]
