bjws a super giant star with strange behavior that appears to be about to explode it has a mass 17 times greater and is 800 times larger than the sun for a size comparison this is an image of be juice taken with the Elma Observatory with the orbits of the planet in our solar system B ju is about 1,000 times the diameter of the sun P juice is approximately 640 light years away from Earth meaning the light we see from it today left a star about 640 years ago if be ju had already exploded in a supernova within the last 640 years the light from that explosion would still be traveling toward us in other words it's possible that beo juice has already exploded centuries ago and we could see the explosion at any time something unusual has been happening to this star lately this red super giant has been diming frequently in recent years causing scientists to wonder when the Supernova will occur to reach the red super giant phase the star must have already consumed much of its hydrogen Supply which has fused into helium in the core and as this Supply is depleting heavier elements like carbon and oxygen are now being used as Alternatives a sign that a red super giant is nearly the end is when there is a significant presence of iron in the core indicating an exhaustion of internal energy the core will now be able to support the weight of the outer layers causing this layers to collapse crashing internally and as it collides with the core the so-called Supernova explosion occurs which after some time can give rise to either a neutron star or a black hole depending on the type of supernova beo juice is expected to explode as a type 2 Supernova leaving behind either a neutron star or a black hole in its place because of its proximity B juicy Supernova would be incredibly bright potentially outshining the full moon and it would would likely remain visible for weeks but will it pose any danger to Earth well technically not the danger zone for this effect is estimated to be around 100 light years fortunately video juice is beyond this range so we are safe from harm but it is still a great mystery one recent observation showed that something weird is happening one side of the star's surface moves toward us while the other side moves away creating a gradient of color shifts by analyzing these shifts scientists can determine the star's rotation of speed in be's case this speed turned out to be much higher than expected one possible explanation for this anomaly is Stellar cannibalism where beo juice may have absorbed a companion star gaining additional angular momentum be Juice's outer atmosphere contains much more nitrogen than expected indicating that its interior was recently mixed suggesting that something caused the star to spin faster astronomers began to consider be juice as the result of a collision as the super giant star aged its atmosphere expanded to the orbit of a companion simulations showed that the companion's gravity funneled material onto itself increasing its mass eventually the companion moved through so much material that it caused friction slowing down and drawing it inward what happened next dependent on various factors including the companion speed the relative mass of the stars and how much of the primary Stars atmosphere had expanded the influx of material from the companion star disrupted be ju's helium core briefly causing it to return to a hydrogen core fusing stage however simulations indicate that this didn't last long elb juice quickly became a red super jet again another possibility is that the observed rotation of speed is an optical illusion caused by be Juice's turbulent surface recent Advent telescope observations reviewed that Vues surface isn't smooth but rather bubbling with intense activity these surface bubbles are massive convective cells regions where hot plasma Rises and cooler plasma sinks creating a dynamic roiling surface this convective activity causes variations in temperature and brightness leading to shifts in the color of light emitted from different parts of the Star as a result the star surface appears rather or Blu depending on whether it is moving toward or away from us this color gradient created by the turbulent convective cells might have mislead astronomers into thinking the star is rotating faster than it actually is to determine whether this bubbling is responsible for the observed color gradient or if other factors are at play astronomers are focusing on obtaining higher resolution images and more detailed data this will help clarify whether be Juice's rapid rotation is real or simply an optical illusion caused by its chaotic surface [Music]
