Cleveland Browns: Jameis Winston Talks About the Browns 23-10 Preseason Loss to the Packers

your performance out there uh first drive got some points uh want to finish with seven but we got three I think we uh start started off fast and uh we CED their touchdown so we did pretty good J whether you're a rookie or a 10 back what what is the importance of this first weeks of camp in this first game get the foundation and get uh the the the importance is just learning the intangibles and the fundamentals and uh jelling together as a team um and trying to find a way to win building that winning culture and and doing that what did you think Dorian coming in there was a sluggish period there Dorian came in gave you guys a little bit of a spark I think everyone did a great job with what they had uh Doran did he did an amazing job finishing and uh and that's what we what we have to do no matter how you start you have to finish strong and he kind of overcame some adversity on that drive having a TD taken away um just kind of in there and startu with it that did that show you something yeah I mean I I I see uh the Superstar and him every day at practice uh him and Tyler uh they have that that Superstar complex uh so for them both to go out there and compete to the best of their abilities uh was impressive to me but uh like I shared with Dorian I was like man I'm just happy that he finished uh the the game on a positive note uh leading the team uh I think one of the most impressive plays was him uh alluding a guy on Third and one throwing that ball away and coming back on fourth and one uh outside of the touchdown drive like that is a great great quarterback play and uh him being a great leader I know you guys were you were super excited to play in front of the home fans for the first time obviously not a packed house like a regular season game but how was that experience I'm still I'm still super excited you know uh we we we came we showed up and showed out it didn't go our way uh but I was definitely uh grateful to be in this atmosphere uh to just experience being on that grass with my teammates with our fans like that they are who they are what makes us go uh so we want them to continue to come out and support us and uh and give us that that edge you know obviously preseason this is a learning phase for us and I think we going to build off of this and uh and take that until next week cuz we got another home game so we need more fans to come out and give us some support we Havey to see a young guy like Jamari come up with a couple of big patches in his debut yeah it's it's always great seeing uh when young guys uh when they finally clicks and him having an opportunity he's been doing his whole life of of of shining uh when when the time present it but him having an opportunity to do it on this stage was very impressive and I just want him to continue to build on that Dorian mentioned having you kind of in his ear throughout the game just what were those conversations like and how much were you kind of communicating with him throughout his time out there on the field uh just communicating uh what the defense is doing I'm telling him hey stay patient uh we only need one drive uh just continue to relate relate relate that to him um because in times when when uh when you're not uh moving the ball as you as you would like uh you try to you try to try to press and you try to make something something happen uh but um just just affirming him that he's doing a great job you're doing a great job keeping everyone poised and uh just making it one play at a time off of that just how how big are those those between series conversations between you the quarterbacks on the sidelines just kind of you telling them what you're seeing and and them telling you what they're seeing well it it it depends on on if the guy likes that a like a lot of people like being in the zone and just seeing it for themselves but I feel like my role is to paint a picture for them and see like are we on the same page and uh and understand what are you seeing so that I can help you if you want help uh and and also I think just affirmations like confidence and selling confidence in them every every single chance you get uh because sometimes it can be uh frustrating when you don't get the result that you want but understanding that we played four quarters of football and I think Dorian did an amazing job of that of capitalizing on that last drive to get us in the end zone what's the next I just I mean you say that the want to or not is Dorian one of those that wants that information and how are those guys like Tyler and Dorian I think Tyler and Dorian and desan are very open to uh communication I think Ken uh does a great job with communicating I think Co stefansky does a great job with communicating on Seline but as a veteran quarterback I'm still learning and experiencing them in game type environments uh I I want to continue just to study and ask them questions and get feedback from them hey was this too much hey like what would you like how would you like for me to communicate to there like what are cues that I can give you uh to to to make Paradigm shifts throughout the course of a game so that's a that's a study that I just know like uh it's very confident when you know somebody got your back and you got and someone you got extra eyes that's watching but at the same time uh it can be overwhelming so I'm still learning and trying to find ways that I can put in little Snippets uh and be uh be welcome with the joint practices and then the back half of training C for preseason what's the next step for this offense as home I think I think we just got to keep on uh pushing energy and execution uh we have uh a lot of uh High High um high class players uh that can do great things for us that didn't get a chance to play in this game and uh I think we just got to continue to push like what is our approach like how how do we approach the game from an energetic perspective how do we approach the game from an execution perspective because that's what makes offense click uh some days you going to win games where you only score 17 points but finding a way to put together a great Drive I think that is very positive in terms of us being able to build upon this week and I think from a from a game prep uh planning standpoint studying the Green Bay Packers was very challenging because they have a new defensive coordinator we haven't really seen them on film seen what type of scheme that they do uh in in training camp you're so focused on you that you don't really study the other guy uh other team as much so it's very different not having like a reference to go off of having to watch college tape like we watching Boston College film uh trying to trying to paint a picture of like how is this team team going to play but they have NFL players they don't have BC players you know nothing against BC players you know but um I I think that that's crucial too when you have uh a a very small time to prepare uh you actually knowing what the other defense is doing is very important with Dorian coming back from that hip injury and you knowing how hard he had to work to come back from that was that even more satisfying to see him be able to to go out there and have a little bit of success tonight yeah absolutely uh his resilience throughout the the whole offseason has has been uh impeccable and I commend him on that uh but as he know as I'm always expressing to everybody every single day it's one day at a time and this is about now and I I try to encourage him not to focus on uh what he's been through but to visualize on what where he's headed and I think he's doing a great job of visualiz where he's headed obviously you know with last year how he did he did he won some great games I remember that uh the Pittsburgh game and him driving down in two minut to get that uh field goal to win that was an amazing time uh and I and I told him about that so him just continuing to maintain that Poise and keep that Superstar complex him and Tyler both I remember Tyler winning some some some close playoff games you know both of them have that so me just trying to encourage them lift them up and uh just give them a little push to to keep being what what God has already instilled in them as you move on from today Jo practices obviously start this week um how beneficial will those be for you guys when you know maybe there's certain things in a game setting like this that you can't get done because you maybe don't see it as much or something like that like without the game circumstances around it just how beneficial it will be to kind of get down and work in our mind these are going to be game likee scenarios because it's a different team uh when you are practicing against each other the the whole goal is hey let's protect each other you know what I'm saying we seeing each other every single day you know what I'm saying so it ain't nothing new Under the Sun so getting a chance to to experience new competitiveness uh New Perspective uh new chippy and chapping you know what I'm saying so getting a chance to to uh experience a very challenging defense with Brian Flores and the Minnesota Vikings uh is going to be very good for offense in terms of just that energy and execution James you being that uplifter how you being that uplifter how much of that is your nature and how much of it is your experience that that's that's my heart and that's my Foundation you know like I say I I I do this because the blood of Jesus Christ you know my faith in him allows me to increase others and make sure that I'm pushing and make sure that I'm speaking life into other people you because that's what I want for me you know so that that's the simple part of it and especially in this game man like this game is is very tough and when you play a tough game people need encourage ment you know they need sternness as well you got to keep it real with them because this game you know this game is is tough on the business side as well but at the same time man I I just I just want to be a man of increase I am a man of increase and I want to lead and Inspire my teammates with that motivation what is the most important message for these young guys who played their first game or are looking for a bigger role what are what do you want them to know coming out of this I want them to know that it's about now uh so I want them to study and learn from their mistakes but we got to Practice coming up it's going to be about that practice you know uh we we had some rookies had some amazing games okay you got to put that behind you got to keep on going like that's the business of this league uh you got to be able to snap and clear and be able to do it over and over and over again so just instilling them like great job build on the positives but we have to eliminate the negatives all of us have something that we can get better at and we have to be obsessed with getting better every single day than
