so just about set now and towing the slab Bo brisy and singy we were talking earlier about how he's doing a great job navigating through tough spots I've just been so impressed with when it seems like there's more pressure he's more calm and settles in he's done an incredible job with runners in scoring position most guys they get a little tight they start to aim the baseball but for some reason he gets looser the ball comes out of his hand with more life and he's able to wiggle the hook you know situations and get his team back in the DU leftand hitter Waits fouled off he was [Applause] late rander kicks deals fights that one away and the count remains 0 and two and today is draft day singing an exciting day in terms of the future of the sport and the future of these teams it's also changed a lot in terms of the immediacy of finding out I mean what was it carrier pigeon was how you found out about being drafted back when you were selected right well fans today may not realize because we have you know such exposure on the internet and Network sports and everything else you find out right away but when I was drafted back in 1993 I maybe found out you know later in the day was drafted in the morning that I was drafted by the Isco giant so regardless I think the feeling is the same no matter whether you find out right away or you find out a day later you're oh that pitch got away from him and that's a hit by pitch Freddy Freeman up to the dish boo you uh have any memorable hit by pitches yourself maybe high school college no but I almost did get decapitated by a foul ball at old Tiger Stadium Otani the lead runner at second Smith at first with no outs Freeman hits it in the air squeezes it Ru tags it second and he's in safely at third with one out two on one out here's teoscar Hernandez I'm liking what I've seen from him at the dish lately hitting better than 350 this month first pitch just misses the last thing he wants is to hit the ball on the ground but I wouldn't expect many pitches up in laser base hit and the Dodgers score first it's one ZIP well he comes through clutch with the RBI single that was big nice Line Drive P side met it out front but just stayed through it nice enough and ripped it into the Outfield James outman steps to the plate for the Dodgers [Applause] lifted in the air right center field kenana sizes this one up and he makes the catch rer tags it second the relay throw he's in there that Miguel roas at the play Miguel Ro here's a rip to short but he's there for the third out so one run in the on this base hit it's now one nothing it's Major League Baseball on the show and we're back and on the hill Anthony Bond what do you look for here well what quickly stands out to me for this guy is that he comes in with a three to1 strike out to walk ratio on the season so when you consider consistency the ability to get swings and misses and to limit base runners that's critical in winning gamesday especially when teams are depending on the big swing the home run to win ball games Andy aan in the box now no balls in a strike and that gets the inside corner for a strike he's dealing with a great two strike hitter right here the strike out is not automatic that one the other way and Bas hit so a runner aboard to start the inning show the willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way didn't get jumpy didn't try to pull the ball he' let it get deep took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit Justin Henry Malloy the next to hit takes outside Lin and that's a base hit throw back in quickly first and second now with no out backto back base hits kind of a risky pitch coming inside with the breaking ball like that you have to bury it otherwise it's not too difficult to get the bat to it like he did that [Applause] time well he knows they don't want to give him anything to hit but when youve got opportunities to drive in runs youve got to expand the Zone he's capable of going out there and doing damage with it and a pitch struck him out looking with the off speed stun here's Riley green he's done a great job making contact recently batting average this one over 400 oh one count and the pitch and that's the he's looking for a ground ball to get a double play and out of this Jam fought off foul Runners at first and second with one [Applause] goal here comes a pitch just off the outside edge and the count is even two and [Applause] two that one missed got him and there's two away well that curveball had some pretty good break to it as you can see the hitter just up a little bit thought it was a great pitch to hit but sometimes you're looking for something else and you can't pull the trigger here's Mark Canam I'm curious how he decides to attack on the mound this guy at the plate has been great hit Under Pressure this year and he swings and misses and it's nothing in one oh and one first and second two down comes up empty oh two [Applause] [Music] count swinging a drive deep right field Hernandez ranging back and it's caught just in front of the wall two left on we move on to the second here at C it's and welcome back to the ballark and now Andy PES and risky back to work popped up Keith under it makes the grab and there's one down here's Kik Hernandez in the air right field tear [Applause] [Music] [Applause] ball one down Chris Taylor [Applause] now light drive base hit down alive lead Runner around second and they'll have Runners at the corners after a one out single didn't take long to get a result for that at bat really shot that one down the right field line and somehow found a way to keep it from slicing foul one thing that was great about the approach is head was down all the way through the pitch and that's how you do it Otani in the box now as he looks at ball one second plate appearance of the day for him ground ball to the right side fires to second one throw to first but he beat it I promise you they guys that get a little bit faster when they can smell an RBI that was a possible in ending double play great hustle and he gets rewarded with the RBI because of it popped up Bas moving under it and makes the play and that's out number three one run a pair of hits no errors and one left on back here in Detroit ready to go to the last half of the inning and here is Carson Kelly that one finds the zone and it's own and [Applause] one there Gary Simmons has the plate Duty in this one well with Simmons it's not always your standard Strike Zone boo it kind of gives a little extra in some parts of the zone and then can be tighter in others but I think the important thing is he doesn't get labeled as inconsistent so you got to stay ready up there yeah one of those umpires you just have to know what to expect right exactly and that's a little bit High the count now two and [Applause] two and another ball [Applause] keeps the Imp back going with a foul ball 32 now battling here as he fouls it [Applause] away kicks and fires Wings threw it and that's a strike down well boo that's an example of a good at back without getting into the hit column he saw a lot of [Applause] pitch right there and that can set your team up for Success later in the game next to hit col P swinging a foul over the screen and back out of play one out base is [Applause] empty the old one is outside and it's ball on a strike on the ground right side and it goes just foul the pitch swing and a miss struck him out two down just couldn't catch up on the low 90s fast right there and that's a result of a good job of CH speeds off spe pitch on the one before then sped him up pitch that don't throw real hard have to rely on location and mix it up the speeds that wasn't the best location with the fast ball but clearly that wasn't the pitch he was looking for at the plate either two down nobody on ground ball up the middle fires over to First and the Tigers retired one two three all set for [Applause] the start of the inning and at the play for the Dodgers Freddy Freeman and first off ring is fouled [Applause] off swing and a Fly ball in the air out towards right center field touches down that's a hit and the lead off man aboard tried to get inside on him but he was ready for it just kept his hands in and turned on the pitch quick bat through the Zone next to hit to Oscar hernandz hammered and now maybe extra bases Freeman around second headed for third throw is high and over his [Applause] head challenge him with the fast ball right in the heart of the zone and he was clearly ready to jump all over it James outman steps to the play for the Dodger to the right side a dive ni stop and that's a great play for the out look at how he Dives right there as able to pop up to both knees not enough time to get to his feet but he threw a cannon across the diamond to get the runner he's over one on the ground right side to first now two away as they get a run across Andy PES steps to the plate for the Dodgers swing and a miss nice change up fing up the strike zone hasn't been the problem so far it's the quality of the strikes that's been the real issue and you look at the first inning that's what we saw too many pitches out over the plate often hear the phrase short to it long through it and that's a great example of it right there got the Barrel in The Hitting Zone early squared it up with the well time swing and came away with a beautiful line drive into center field move to First and he's back in [Applause] safely two runs across in the inning we're here in the top half of inning number three out to short they get the force and that is the inning two runs three hits no errors and one left bottom half of the third and they bring in a new pitcher Johan r and he's got a nice lead to work with so he should come in throwing strikes attacking these hits number 50 now at the plate as he swings through strike one that one fouled Off Pitch misses outside ball [Applause] one wouldn't chase that time one [Applause] down now B and now the first baseman Andy aan that's down and [Applause] in next pitch is down [Applause] stairs just [Applause] missed the Tigers down by four here in the last half of the third this one in the air right field Hernandez hauls it in and there's two away and next to hit for Detroit Justin Henry Malloy and that's off the Inside Edge one and0 two out space is empty that pitch in for a strike and now it's even one and one just off the Inside [Applause] Edge come backer to the mound and that is that a shut down there they're on the short end of a 4 nothing score as he turns on the rubber with that good live arm delivers and it's foul away you know these Dodgers doing a good job of putting the ball into play and that makes things more challenging on the defensive side they're hitting everything thrown on them their contact rate is in the low 90s it's like they know what's coming but that's just pretty ridiculous what they're doing right now those numbers are well above the Major League average con the batter now as he swings and misses for strike one right now this battery is seen the aggressiveness of the hitters early in the count and of in so got to be real careful that you don't give too good of a pitch especially early in the count one down base is empty foul ball still o and two to the right side he takes it on his own two quick outs here in the top of the fourth and up to the plate is Will Smith and first off ring is fouled [Applause] [Applause] off two outs and that one is lifted in the air green racing over to make the [Applause] catch back at CER Park here's the third basem Matt verling and here it comes close one doesn't get the call and it's w too swing and a popup foul territory for the catcher and there's one down Riley green green up now for the Tigers swing and a miss it's Ramirez in his third season 28 years old and he was born in the Dominican Republic face is empty one away we're here in the bottom of the fourth that one at the knees for a strike and there's the ball and the right-hander deals and down on strikes two down Mark canah getting ready to hit flyed to right his first time and takes low for ball one [Applause] now one missed two balls no the pitch that one misses and that's ball three that Clips the [Applause] corner offering in there for a St and the count is fed up in the air out to Center on the Move brings it in for the third out and welcome back to the [Applause] ball part new inning getting started here comes Freddy Freeman up to hit risky back to work misses the zone and he gets him to chase you know these Dodgers doing a good job of Simply getting the bat on the ball in this game and the numbers back that up they have yet to strike out and they're averaging more than a hit per inning that's a great recipe for Success right there tracks it down for the out one up one down teoscar Hernandez steps to the plate for the Dodgers puts it in the air out towards left Center Green settles under it makes the catch and there's two away two outs SP is empty here's the center fielder James outman light drive no trouble here puts it away for the out and that'll do back now to start the bottom of the fifth and taking over on the mound Michael Peterson he pitched yesterday and we'll see him once again and now it's going to be Carson Kelly he was a strikeout victim his first time the W to kick the pitch strike one oh and one that one's in there and the count is 0 and [Applause] two kicks andand deal bals it back with two strikes [Applause] Off the Mark there now one and [Applause] two bounce to the left side Roos on to first one up one down here's the second baseman Colt heat went down on strikes his first time through and that is in for strike on one one the count swing and a miss the Dodgers leading by four last half of inning number [Applause] five foul ball it stays nothing in two you can see was trying to stay back long enough to handle the off speed pitch but just a little Tardy on the fast ball and that one's a little bit low and the count one and [Music] two one down base is empty and it's even up really good take especially with two strikes and down on strikes he goes and there's two away Javier bayz up now for the Tigers grounded out out his first time there's a [Applause] strike face hit and that keeps the inning [Applause] going here's the left fielder [Applause] [Applause] and first off ring is fouled off at the belt and FES swing and a miss and he got him to chase well you got the hitter already chasing that nasty slider if you're on the mountain you just want to expand the zone right now get a swing and miss and get through this at B that misses the zone and the count is one and two here's a rocket out to left that is the inning we're back and they make a change to start number seven the six the new pitcher Shelby Miller out for the 30th time this year swinging a foul straight back Miller a very difficult guy to get hits off of it's really rare for teams to string stuff together against him he wins every pitch and for a hitter sometimes a victory is just fouling off one of his pitches unless he beats himself somehow can't find it doesn't have the control command that day pretty much forget about man it first now the left fielder Andy PES and a pop off right side foul territory Devan hauls it in and there's one away good hard fast ball up in the zone right there they look really good coming in but so hard to get on top of as a hitter as a hitter there's even more pressure to take advantage of any mistake right yeah and you're hoping that you know somehow some way whether it's a hit by pitch a walk something bad happens because outside of that stuff is just too good to fail and that's down a base hit and he's got deception in his delivery and it's not that he's trying to deceive the hitters he just has this natural flow that makes it hard for hitters to pick the ball up it gets on them a little bit quicker than they anticipate even though they know what the velocity numbers are two on one out liner St it first great diving catch on the line drive in the ground does not cause a fumble great athleticism on that play right [Applause] there that one clued out towards left Center that'll be extra bases one run is in coming home he'll score two runs are in it's six nothing nicely done brings home two I love the approach he had right there with that pitch not trying to do too much but still looking to drive it and that's exactly what he's able to do into the opposite field gap for the double and first offer ring is fouled [Applause] off foul ball there o and two now good job to fight that one off runner at second two down and we're in the top half of the six swing and a ground ball out to short bayz fires over to First that ends the inning and they limit the and we're back the batter now Andy AB so the Dodgers have a new arm on the mound Alex vicia compared to some days this is a pretty low Lage appearance for so he should be fairly free and easy out there still have to keep yourself sharp and attack the strike zone throws the first in time leadoff man retired in the sixth popped up foul territory behind the plate he makes the grab two down now two outs base is empty and up next for Detroit Matt Bey first pitch misses I can't play around with him here a six run lead at this point got to attack hitters even if you give up a solo shot two down nobody on the other way he's got it and that is out number three back here in Detroit we go to the top of the seven and at the plate for the Dodgers Freddy Freeman and the pitch front with the swing and that is strike one activity in the bullpen Andrew chaff South B is throwing and getting that Sinker dialed in vest the right hander also getting loose into the Outfield base hit man aboard on the leadoff single just one of those seen High base hits through the infield who just kind of rolled over on it a little bit but sometimes those can find a hole and get you a knock Hernandez the next to hit takes ball one hard ground ball base kn green hurries it back in runner stops at second and the first two reach to start the inning Andrew chaen enters the game left-handed batter at the plate and he's been excellent in those matchups this year so this seems like a calculated moveing in James out oh he gloves it off balance feed there's one to First not in time great effort there at the pl Miguel Roos one for three [Applause] base hit and a run in to score the throw in in there safely well done drives in the run just a simple soft liner into center field for the knock right there maybe a little bit fooled by the pitch but he did a good job of staying through it and that allowed him to fight it off and just get enough behind it and that one fouled off [Applause] Lefty out of the stretch Runners at first and third and a foul [Applause] ball the2 fights it off he'll see [Applause] [Music] another and the pitch oh great stop chaffing to Second over to first that's two nicely done one bottom of the seventh now here's the Tigers cleanup hitter Riley green fast ball in for a strike going and one the sea a 6-1 Lefty he features a four seam fast ball a slider and he works in a change up [Applause] here's the 02 spoils the two- strike pitch and he'll see another yeah with two strikes here you really want to miss outside the Zone with that breaking ball that's outside that misses and that is ball one that one 95 to finish him off Mark Canon now at the plate and fires in a fast ball at 95 that's a little bit low and now the Lefty now this is in the air down the line and that will drop foul base is empty one away here the bottom of the seven got him swinging man that slider bearing in in your hands like that it's just so tough to fight off it's kind of like a cut and just can eat you saw you off tell you what hitters have nightmares about that pitch perfectly executed out there on the M Kelly stands in with two away as he takes the ball that one finds the zone and that's strike one swing and a miss one as he was out front that time and a one two got him looking and it's a one two3 inning Tigers fail to make it and welcome back to the ballpark now the third baseman Kik Hernandez chaen back to work out to short bayz first out in the top of the eight now at the plate Chris Taylor and remember he was absolutely robbed of a base hit last time up and there's a foul ball [Applause] and that one in the air Center Field Green settles under it puts it away for the out and there's two down here's sh [Applause] Otani ground ball right side he takes it himself to the bag and that'll do it three up three ready for the bottom of the e leading off Colt Keith the pitch Off the Mark there and that's ball one that one the other way Hernandez tosses to first and that's one away as the lead off man is out in the E so up next Javier bayz the first pitch misses for ball one B is empty one away here the bottom half for the eigh inning the short stop takes the [Applause] ball and the pitch close one doesn't get the call and now three [Applause] and0 and that drops in for a strike the pitch that's in for a strike at 95 now full three and [Applause] two swings through that one it's a strike out this guy will throw any pitch and any count 32 he goes off speed gets the out yeah first offering is fouled [Applause] off and ball one [Applause] right side Taylor tosses to first three up three down inning over back to Kar par all set to start the ninth in this one and at the plate for the Dodgers Will Smith and a pitch swing and a pop off in foul grab theing drifts towards it hauls it in for the out and there's one down Freddy Freeman steps to the plate for the Dodgers ground ball right side two up two down good slider inside right there batter fighting to get there just rolled over it got the ground ball teoscar Hernandez digs in now and a foul ball two [Applause] outs boots it and he's going to make it to First and we'll see how they score [Applause] it and now the center fielder James [Applause] outman and first offering is fouled off well pretty clear to me he was trying to go deep right there but you got to get a pitch that you can handle and Ed deals swinging a foul straight [Applause] back HS and misses it's a strike out so no runs no back now as they hand the ball to a fresh arm to start the bottom of the night Ryan yarro and you know Bullpen guys can struggle sometimes when they're called on with big leads because it just doesn't have the same intensity as a tight game so we'll see how sharp he is your mental toughness matters in situations like this as well he's two outs away and next up for the Tigers Justin Henry Malloy inside corner and that's called a strike the Dodgers up big in this one we in the last half of the ninth inning [Applause] that one is absolutely beled and it's into the Gap round first and hustling for second not stopping he's going for three and he's got himself a triple couldn't have timed it up any better than that just a cookie down [Applause] the middle I mean those are the ones you dream about the ones in the cage you're just hoping you get in the ball game right down the middle not a whole lot of velocity right on top of it and first off ring is fouled off got the back going too soon at strike two going two Malloy stands at third with one gone of the inning just misses and it's one and two executed that pitch very nicely just missed with it kicks and fires stays alive always he having a tough time getting a pitch by him as a hitter you feel pretty confident that you're seeing different pitches still able to make some type of contact didn't [Applause] go the pitch I got three and two ninth pitch of the atat do next five [Applause] [Music] foul balls in this and B so far and these two are going head to-head you can see the crowd they're starting to get into it a little bit more and more each pitch even though there hasn't been a ball in play [Applause] yet outside and that is ball four that's a great atat he saw a lot of pitches and earn to walk new pitcher for the Dodgers late TR big swing and Miss upu right here Bo averaging more than one strike out per inning this season so far he's been pretty Electric for [Applause] green now the Box comes up empty with a swing there he's had a tough day at the plate three strikeouts already it's hard not to think negative but you got to find a way to somehow Center up the baseball and put it in play ground ball right side could be two flips the second and it's a double play to end the ball game nice work out of the bullpen for that first MLB wi boo they turn to him when they didn't have the lead he kept things steady and he's rewarded with the w this one ends 7 nothing for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the Show I'm John chambi thanks for joining us for here now is our final line score this afternoon for the Victorious Dodgers seven runs on 13 hits no errors they left
