SEC EXPERT Reveals TRUTH about Billy Napier & Florida Gators

Intro I'm joined today guys by Barrett s writer radio host analyst lover of all things college football right uh this is the dry season this is the hard times that us college football fans have to kind of get through uh to make it to the promised lands of September and uh Gator fans are not in a particularly forgiving or excited mood so and obviously you know the way to fix that right is to win Napier seat is pretty warm what are the I don't know some specific things that he can do to increase his odds at being successful you know I think for Billy and I'm kind of surprised by this it's just a top-down corporate uh problem you know I think the best coaches in the country um build their organization like a business everybody knows their roles everybody's fine with their roles nobody needs to be told anything and I think from from Florida you're not really getting that and I think he's trying to change it I I think he's maybe learned some lessons and and you know that organization I think is is key and you know you're seeing that a little bit on the recruiting Trail but I think for for Billy more than anything else he's just got to find a way to win in the trenches he's got to find a way to replace Trevor etm I think the back end of that defense could use some work the player the Personnel just isn't there to compete at a high level and now that Texas is in in the conference and I'm not really worried about Oklahoma but now that Texas is in the conference you got to fight one more battle you you got to fight um you know somebody on the other side that you're not necessarily uh comfortable with so I think for Billy it's it's an organizational problem and that has led to um a talent base that is is not what it needs to be in order to compete like Urban did um or even I know Jim M's kind of a a dirty word around there but at least he got them to SEC Championship games and this team is very very far away from that well and so did Dan Mullen Dan Mullen even if he didn't necessarily recruit well he would coached well enough to take other people's players decently far as well yes yeah he did and um you know and that's a kind of a double-edged sword right because he coached well enough but he didn't recruit and Billy gets there and those players are still there too so you know I think you know it's a it's kind of a double-edged sword with that yeah Dan Dan's successful there's no doubt um but the the cupboard was Bare um you know and I like that Billy is comfortable with his guys but if if you have to go get even if they've been developed if you have to get you know Louisiana rage and cjun players on your roster multiple just to play and just to succeed um yeah those guys might be good but that tells me there's a depth problem and that's you know that's something that takes a long time to fix even in the in these times where yeah you can go get some players but everybody else is doing the same thing and you're not going to be as attractive as you were um if if you're not winning and and that's been a big problem well you know something Loyalty interesting that you said is that you you know you like that he is comfortable with his guys and I think you know another way to phrase that is loyal to his guys which is something that I think that there's always been a knock on head coaches in college football they're too loyal to their their guys the coaches that they brought in that was something we said about Mullen Napier did make changes this off season he he made he made a lot of a lot of changes did he make enough changes personnel-wise yeah I think he did I think from a coaching perspective I think it was it was clear that he got serious with it you know you mentioned loyalty and and I think when you go out there and you kind of show that you're not loyal and you want to go get you know go revamp things that's that's fantastic and then you know from a transfer portal perspective yeah I mean he did okay I think Florida you know is going to be pretty active you know I think there's sort of um you know differing opinions on what the spring portal is going to look like uh I think from a quarterback perspective it's going to be maybe a little bit like last year and Florida doesn't need a quarterback so it doesn't really matter um but I think from a from a Personnel perspective outside of that yeah it's G to be it's gonna be a big deal and I think Billy knows that I think the staff knows that and I think they're going to be very aggressive because yeah you know you can be comfortable with with who you have but I think it's clear that Billy has stepped away from that loyalty a little bit in a good way and so I'm excited to see what happens um because Florida maybe not Alabama or Washington or Arizona and all the dominoes that fell after saving you know they're not going to be as active as those teams but it's clear that especially with the schedule uh Billy's in a little bit of a desperation mode which I mean I get it he should be every coach should be uh but Billy now more than more than others uh based on on what's coming his way in the fall well Ron Roberts and we'll get to that schedule in a minute but let's talk for a second about Ron Roberts he was brought in from Auburn I don't know if you've been down to Florida spring practice or you've seen these clips out of there but you know it is the most vocal and kind of in-your-face that I've seen a coach be since the Napier era started and obviously Florida's defense needs some help right how big of a pickup was that potentially well it's it's big in a way that I think it's big in multiple ways one he he had to basically lead the charge when he was at Auburn like there that was the identity and they were forced to be in a in a in in a in a style where they had to be perfect or almost perfect otherwise there was no chance that the team as a whole would be successful so I think he understands hey you if to carry a team you might have to be um more consistent than maybe in in in other spots where you know defense doesn't win championships just enough defense wins championships no Florida's got to be elite 247 365 because um you know it it might have to be the focal point of the team it might have to be the the unit that carries the team I think um you know with with the way he coaches and the way he you know not just him but you know the way he teaches his assistants is is pretty aggressive and it's borderline mean at times which is fine you know that edge is is helpful and um you know to have that different voice to have a different style not from a you know scheme standpoint but just from a personality standpoint um you know it's big and and again it goes back to what I think the the biggest problem is and that's you know the the roles that don't exist the fact that from a structure standpoint from a top down standpoint Florida is not where it needs to be and bringing in a defensive staff that understands everything that it needs to be everything that it's supposed to do and doesn't need to be told you know starts with the coordinator starts with the assistant start with starts with um the attitude and I think Florida's you it's going in that direction and I think spring practice is is going to go a long way towards you know reestablishing what the identity should be and really what the identity should have been when Billy Napier got there all right well I Outro appreciate you hanging out with us today tell everybody where they can check you out because
