Rising temperatures prompt heat advisory across the Bay Area

You know it was hot out there and those temperatures are expected to rise even more today. We have team coverage for you this midday. NBC Bay Area's Kris Sanchez is in the South Bay tracking the impact on fire danger as well as air quality. But first, we want to kick things off with meteorologist Kari Hall. She has been tracking just how hot things are expected to get out here. And Kari, we're talking about some near triple digits. Yeah, we are going to see quite a few of those triple digits in parts of the South County as well as the East Bay, as well as farther north. All of these areas in orange are included in that heat advisory, which continues until tomorrow evening. So here's where we are right now. We're already starting to feel those temperatures warming up, but it's not yet dangerous for much of the Bay Area, it's mostly in the 70s and low 80s. It's right now in the low 60s for San Francisco. But then when we take a look at our highs and where we're headed for today, 101 degrees in Dublin. A lot of those triple digits across the East Bay, as well as the North Bay and in San Francisco, we're going to be warming up into the mid 80s, and we're along the coastline still feeling some comfortable temperatures with highs in the upper seconds. Looking at tomorrow, the heat continues. In fact, the risk of the heat and how this could impact your health will be rising as we're seeing a lot more red on the map here, as well as purple, which is an extreme heat risk and how this affects you. So we're still dealing with a couple of more days of some really intense heat before things gradually start to come down in time for the weekend. We'll be tracking that. So it's not too bad where we are right now at 78 degrees here in this spot in San Jose, but definitely the parts of my body that are not in the shade. I can definitely feel how hot that sun is. We know that the biggest spike of heat is coming up a little bit later today, and I think people took your advice. Kari. We saw quite a few people getting their runs in their dog walks out early before the air quality goes down and before the pavement is too hot for those little paws. Yeah. Just to make sure if I don't get out in the morning, then I'll walk her at night. And before when the sun sets. So it's not like so as people are out and about, the golden hillsides are a reminder that fire danger is not over until the rainy season rolls in. And that's not happening for a while. The town of Woodside just installed a wildfire. Sensors that use AI to detect fires up to two miles away. By observing air quality data. There are similar and I-5 shield sensors in high risk areas in Santa Clara County and in the Oakland Hills, as well as the Tahoe National Forest fire burning north of Truckee. That's the Bear fire. Firefighters are still battling conditions there.
