That's the sound of the capital one building in Lake Charles as it fell to the ground in just seconds, the implosion left a large cloud of dust while dozens gathered on the street for a watch party. What was once the tallest building in Lake Charles disappeared from the city skyline. The high rise building was badly damaged in hurricane Laura in August 2020. And after a battle with his insurance company, the owner Hertz investment group put the tower up for sale. City leaders searched for a buyer but ultimately decided that repairing the building would be a far greater task for any developer to consider. That's when the decision was made to tear it down.
