Intro NFL held its annual meeting last week and boy did they come up with some new rules today we're going to go off of the hybrid kickoff rule are you ready for this the NFL held its annual meeting last week with the competition committee voting on rule changes today we're going to go over the new hybrid kickoff format Overview the league will be adopting a hybrid kickoff format for a trial run of the 2024 season after the vote passed 29 to three under the new rules the kicking and receiving units would each have new Alignments alignments kickoffs will still take place from the 35 yard line however the remaining 10 players on the kicking unit would line up on the opponent's 40 yard line meanwhile the receiving team would line up at least seven players in the setup Zone a 5y area between their own 35 and 30 yd line action off the kickoff would be prompted when the ball lands in the landing Zone defined as the area between the receiving team's goal line and its 20 yd line no more than two Landing Zone returners would be allowed to line up in this Landing Zone the kicker can't cross the 50 yd line until the ball touches the ground or a player in the landing zone or go into the end zone additionally receiving team players in the setup Zone also can't move until the ball has hit hit the ground or a player in the landing zone or in the end zone the returners are allowed to move at any time before or during the kickoff so Scenarios let's go over some scenarios kickoffs that land in the landing Zone must be returned I I actually like that a lot so if the kicker is good enough to put that over in a strategic and specific spot of the field then you have to return I don't know a forced return means no more of that taking a knee stuff I that's pretty cool kickoffs at land in the landing Zone and then go into the end zone have to be returned or downed by receiving team if downed it's a Touchback and the team receives it on their 20 yard line kickoffs that fall short of the landing Zone would be treated as a kickoff out of bounds giving the receiving team possession at their 40 yd line no fair Catch or Outro signals are allowed officials will blow the play dead as for onside kicks those can only occur in the fourth quarter and only when the team is trailing there were a few other notable changes made maybe we'll do future videos on them if you like this kind of content just let me know by giving a thumbs up or leave a comment saying yes I like this or no I don't care and then we will either do more of these or we won't thanks for watching see you next next time
