Ladd McConkey: Overyhyped in Fantasy Football Drafts?

Intro lad makoni wide receiv for 42 overall surely Tom somebody in Los Angeles with the charges you got a elak quarterback under Center someone's got to be fantasy relevant why not lab M and that's the argument which I think is full of Ladd McConkey pitfalls like we've seen this a couple of years ago with darel Mooney with the Bears there's nobody else there somebody has to catch the ball and I'm just not sure that that's a good enough reason for me to want to take lad makoni at 86 overall sleeper or is a top 75 pick on Underdog when you look at other ADP across different platforms on yaho L makoni goes 126 that's much more palatable 99 for the ESPN that feels fine in comparison to this but 86 just feels too high makoni the Chargers traded up to get him they moved up two picks in the you know to have the second pick of the second round but this is a player who never surpassed 800 Ste yards never hit double digit touchdowns and yes Brock Bowers was at Georgia with lad mccon but I mean we see plenty of offenses where players manage to pick put up good points good metrics despite the fact that they're playing with other studs so I struggle because I haven't really seen it from a production point of view from lad mccon I think the athletic stuff it's definitely there he could be a reasonable player for Justin Herbert we saw that over the last couple of years Keenan Allen and Mike Williams combin for 358 targets so we know that Justin Herbert has the passing volume to spray it around to get it to players who he likes Justin Herbert dealing with plant of fous and that's something which could linger for a while and I just don't feel very good about this offense at all over the last few weeks I've completely EAS back on drafting pretty much anyone involved in this offense yeah I I just don't get it with lab makoni yes okay he has some highlight plays yes okay he's athletic yes okay his per route run numbers were fantastic but the guy there's a reason we're talking per rout run numbers and not raw numbers because he couldn't stay on the field in college and we're already seeing him struggle with an injury in training camp as a rookie that is a massive alarm Bell for me the if you look at the list of Highly drafted guys that don't pan out a wide receiver so many of them have an injury in rookie training camp and and fall behind and then don't get that opportunity to pick it up I don't particularly love this offense it is going to be run first and I just think that give me the veteran that's played with Justin Herbert for the last two years in Josh Palmer straight up over lb makoni and I can probably get him 10 15 picks later um I just worry that you're paying a premium for a player that I don't think is worth that premium and I don't think he's shown throughout his college career or anything in Camp to believe that he is worth paying a premium for so I would much rather let's be honest I'd be I'd be tapping the running back glory hole here as much as possible and uh and loading up elsewhere yeah and I just think it's important to point out also that if you're in half PPR format that's again a format which isn't going to favor lad makoni where lad makoni could be good is if you can really see seven eight targets a game from Justin Herbert and really just get those easy catches and just Ren throw his way through the season but is that what this Harbo offense is going to be we know that they want to run the ball and they know that we know that they want to play play action you don't you don't run the ball and run play action to check it down to a slot receiver five yards down field you run play action to attack Deep Over the middle of the field it's going to be those outside the numbers deep shots that we know Justin Herbert is phenomenal at throwing and that's where gim me Josh Palmer because I don't think whilst lad makuni is quick whilst he's athletic he doesn't profile his never shown to be a true deep threat that can stretch the field and I I think he is probably a SL only type guy at the NFL level so in a you know High playay action Le offense that's where I'm going Outro [Music]
