this is Sean sport in podcast form good to have Cass in the building well we are talking about the wfl cuz the night of nights was last night the stand over medal and it was a joint we had joint winners for the first time since 2005 Nick rocker for the black ducks Swan districts and Kalen England from The Claremont Tigers joins us now Ken good morning morning all thanks for having me on mate you must be absolutely wrapped after last night's count yeah it's been a roller coaster of emotions probably in the last 48 hours um losing to Peele by one point um in the second week of finals but then last night yeah um from nowhere really um taking home the sanav medal yeah good job yeah well you needed the top votes going into the last round to make a game of it and you got them is great so we love a bit of drama call that really added to it I reckon yeah so um going into that game you knew you had a good game 28 possessions got on the board as well so were you thinking oh I'm a sneaky chance here yeah I thought I was little bit of a chance um I had a good first quarter in that game and then kicked the goal late in probably junk time which may have got me over the line yeah whatever it takes um were you thinking were thinking oh God I might have to make a speech at this point yeah um probably the last thing I wanted to do make his be um I didn't have anything prepared I didn't know what I guess the format was up there and so it was yeah quite overwhelming oh it was a good result I'm wondering though were you on Mad Monday during the day and then had to front H up tonight uh no not quite our reserves are still um in the uh Grand Final so we wait for them to finish and then we do it um as a club oh that's that's for the best I think we'd all we can all agree what did olle eand have to say to you afterwards because I guess that is the challenge when you have multiple good players in a team that you steal votes from one another and I think he was a heavy favorite so yeah did you have a chat with him post award yes he um definitely was a favorite and I think amongst us Claymont boys we probably thought easty would pull the most votes um but it just speaks to his character um he was just yeah so um I guess just than uh yeah he was just congratulating me for the year I've had and um to be fair I wouldn't have been able to have that year without him yeah K it was a big year cuz you guys started really poorly and the interviews what are you doing at the start and because we made Ash Prescott's the coach and I'm like oh no Ash is one of the best guys going around and he should be able to get this team going eventually you got the wheel started turning and as you said you're one point away from playing in another big match this week weekend so you've had a great finish to the year yeah um I think we started two and six which is just so not like um the Claymont football club normally we start the year really well um and set us up for Success later on in the year but we had to do it the hard way and it felt like every single game we played was a final um so we really did think we could go all the way um having basically been on life support for the last 12 weeks yeah um but it's a disappointing end but I think the boys at the club and the coaches at the club we just have so much belief now um and I think that's going to carry forward um into next year and the the coming years they're a young team Kay you would have watched them a lot this year they were great and you know when I started winning back-to-back games and really building that momentum it was exciting um I guess it's hard to watch but who is going to make the Grand Final who do you reckon is going to win the flag this year I do think um swans out at bassendine is a is a hard task um for any team I think they will um get the Chuckies over PE and then I do think East Pur um will yeah hold on in the final they've been a great team all year um they finished top of the ladder and they've got some um really good players as well as H brw coming back when you have to play out at the black ducks home ground out at Swan for the last game oh the can bar is going off its head the whole joint's rocking I reckon it's a great place to play really one the classics isn't it the classics of iring ground for sure K really appreciate your time manate know you're busy this District great season well done to Nick to absolutely Bel Sean sport in podcast for watching the news yesterday got to see an interview with Lloyd Meek now Lloyd Meek is the Hawthorne Ruckman so they've been on a tear they've won 12 out of the last 14 games now one of the reasons why they've been so prolific is because they've got a Ruckman who's been outstanding form this year he's rated number two in the competition this year on his performance and Lloyd was a guy who started at the Dockers about five or so years ago must must be one that you guys have given up well we did it's one of those things you don't have a choice and I don't think there was a lose for it cuz Lloyd had the opportunity to stay at the Dockers but it meant that he was like always going to play in the waffle yeah and when I was down there um around the co time before Co got out of control and then I was given the boot that was why they got rid of Sur and uh he was so impactful you could see that this guy was going just going to be a really good rman cuz he was massive he had needed to go somewhere else to do it he was so athletic and sha Darcy was the number one Rockman at the freal Dockers and still to this point and they were looking to get Luke Jackson to play in that forward line position so Lloyd was going to be get further down the he had a look at the tea leaves and went yeah probably probably best to go somewhere else and it's paid off it's paid off massively and the thing that I like about Lloyd is that um you know he was kicked to the curve first year at Hawthorne it didn't always go his way he was dropped and stuff and he learned to deal with this and I reckon this is an area where guys that have dealt with young guys coming in the AFL they don't get this part of it normally this is the resilience that that you have to develop isn't it and certainly for our younger people at the moment this is where they're really uh falling short but this is Lloyd talking about his time in the early days eventually I suppose things turn your away and for a long time it didn't and I've been dropped like I don't know how many times and I think the way I was able to just Embrace that and lean into that and that not in your stomach that get when you're just so flat on a Thursday albo CU you haven't been picked again for six years 5 years um I was a I'm proud of the fact that I was able to stand up during those times he's done a great job and now he's regarded as one of the best players second best in the whole competition and now they're questioning him versus Shawn Darcy and all this kind of stuff and I'm sure if sha gets himself to the fitness level he needs to his body can stand with injury this year he'll be right up there but it's yeah it's a great lesson for everyone um that you just keep on keeping on yeah plugging away that's right yeah in the NFL yesterday I was watching I love to watch the NFL this time of year it's just started for the season but there was a big deal between uh a big issue that happened before the Miami Dolphins played uh the Jackson Ville Jacksonville Jaguars Jaguars yesterday in Miami one of the players Tek Hill was on the way to the game and he's a big time player he believes he still should be he he should be considered as an Olympic um athlete he believes he could win the 100 meter dash oh okay he's absolutely grease lightning this cat and he was a professional runner for a period of time before the NFL said hey we're going to pay you you know $50 million a year do running 100 me 100% so he's on his way to the game uh he's got pulled over by the cops they've chucked him in handcuffs straight away and they've and they've dished him into the into the tarmac face first what did he do about three or four police officers surrounding him surely he should have just run he's really fast I would have thought so I mean I wouldn't run from the place as we've had INE in America please uh shoot first ask questions later this is what he had to say about the issue I have no idea for real oh no idea man it's crazy wasn't disrespectful you know cuz my mom didn't raise me that way didn't cuss didn't do none of that the police are going to coper hammering over this but it just seems like another incidence of racism yeah straight away I mean at face value yes um they they wear body cams and stuff don't they the cops there so surely that's going to show whether he did or didn't resist or or you know fail to follow their instructions or whatever well one of the police officers n's already been sent on administrative leave already mhm that's within hours of the issue taking place so was he able to play in the end he played and he was one of the best players as he's supposed to be cuz that's what he's paid to do he SC a big time touchdown Which was the difference in the game for their so he so he won them won the game for them yeah and he put that all aside but once again it was an issue with um uh another a black athlete or or or a person of color where the cops just go to a length where why does it take four or five police to surround you Chuck you in handcuffs and smash you to the ground and without ever knowing what you're supposed to have done clearly he had no idea he said it four four times he had no he had no idea yeah L of things a a lot more Fallout from that I imagine
