Calgary Flames News the plan for the future of the Calgary Flames is to invest in the Young Guns develop the players who will be here in a few years and to draft High what if the Flames are actually competitive this season with a roster full of competitive veterans the Flames might actually be a little bit better than a lot of people are thinking which could hurt them in the future we're going to dive into all that but first I want to welcome you two Flames digest I'm Mark grith if you're new around here and you love the Flames make sure you subscribe so you can stay up to date on all the latest news updates reports and rumors revolving around your Flames we would love to welcome you to the Flames digest family and there's a great question that I think most Flames fans really they need to look deeply into their eyes in the mirror and ask themselves deeply within Are the Flames Good? are the Flames good I mean let's face it the Calgary Flames haven't exactly been the best franchise over the past few decades now I know there's been a few good Seasons sprinkled in here and there but are the Flames good well good might not be the right word to use here but competitive because let's face it it's there are huge implications on the Flames this season to do badly in a sense in order for the plans for the future to be good we know we're already in a rebuild but are the Flames bad enough it's very very very interesting so we're going to take a look at this article from the hockey news here from Steve McFarland pretty much everything written in this video all credit due to him it is all his article but he wrote could Calgary Flames be more competitive than we think Flames veterans asked for patience and their buying could be a building block so let's hop in this might sound a bit crazy but has anyone consider the possibility that the rebuilding Calgary Flames could be better than a bottom feeder this season granted it's extremely unlikely they're going to be major playoff contenders with a roster that has had as much turnover over the past few years the defense Alone lost half its starters before the NHL trade deadline last season the retooled back and yeah the redo back end and a crop of unseasoned goenda Fortunes in the coming months clearly you guys can tell that I always record these videos after a long long shift at work and I'm a little bit Delirious after so I apologize for that my reading has sucked today so far but either way we know the Flames have had a lot of turnover the roster looks very different than when we were a competitive team I mean think of the 2022 roster the team that made it to the second round how many players are left I don't know the actual number but it can't be more than like four can it who would it be vladar Coleman backin Anderson is there another one I'm missing or is that everyone I know there were people in the organization at the time but from that actual roster I think that's all there really is and the Flames are expected to obviously be quite bad but Dustin wolf will have to use his Elite athleticism and hunger to succeed to transition his All-Star and MVP performances from E every other level of of hockey to the world's biggest stage Dan ldar will have to be healthy enough on his surgically repaired hip to provide solid secondary net minding if not late bloomer back stop Devon kolie will be up next so there's some major implications on how the Flames could be good gold tending is a huge huge part of that you know if the goalies are good your team's going to do well look at some of the goalies that have brought their team to not only the Stanley Cup Final but to the Stanley Cup over the past you know however many years you want to do but the one that Springs to mind for me Jordan Bennington won the Stanley Cup look how his career has gone anti mamy is a Stanley Cup winning goenda could be a little bit more competitive is if the goal tending is really really good next up in front of them the decor the D crops of course McKenzie weager and Rasmus Anderson are the top dos on defense although they won't play as partners trade pickup denil miranov showed p in his short stint with the Flames even though he was still in the late stages of recovery from a serious knee injury and his defensive game really isn't all that great either not a bad top three and training camp invite Tyson Barry could find himself a niche as a power play producer if the preseason goes well so there's another one again the defense are they going to play well it really doesn't seem like one of the better Decor in the league I think they might have a bit of a problem stopping pucks this year and it's going to suck on honestly it's going to suck to watch the puck in the back of our net so much but who knows maybe they'll end up jelling really well together finding that Perfect Chemistry and playing really really well being a solid solid Decor we'll just have to wait and see but I think even more important than these and of course Stephen McFarland thinks so as The Real Decider well but what's the real decider here what will it actually depend on whether the Flames are competitive or not well we've talked about the defense we've talked about the goal tending but upfront an even stronger case can be made contingent on a few important details of course of why the Flames would actually be competitive because again there are major implications on this if the Flames are too good it stunts our plans for the future I know it sucks to tank but sometimes you just have to do what you have to do it's going to suck to watch our team lose but look there are some guys who will do everything in their power not to lose and maybe it's some of those competitive veterans that I was hinting at earlier for one Jonathan hubero needs to have a real bounceback season this year if the Flames are to be competitive is what the article is saying no one should be expecting a return to the 100o plateau but a little closer to a point for game campaign would go a long way in keeping the Flames hope afloat and I know it would be great to see Jonathan hubero kind of break out in a sense a second career breakout um but uh at the same time again if it's too much it might make the Flames a little bit too competitive here it's funny the article is more Pro competitive where as most Flames fans are kind of anti-competitive they want the team to kind of stink they want the first overall pick or at least a top five pick but there are some really bad teams in the in the NHL this season so the Flames will have to ensure that they're really really bad if they want the best chance of Landing that first overall pick or at least a top five pick he's one of those veterans that needs to F uh Buy in fully into GM Craig Conroy's vision of a quicker turn to into competitiv rather than waiting for a way out amid the rebuild same goes for codrey who is one of the team's best performers last season but has been rumored to be open to a move because of his desire to win another Stanley Cup if huberto and codrey are anchoring the top two lines and get support from Meo Sharon goic who scored 31 times last season Andre kusco who potted 39 two years ago and some combination of Anthony mantha or sophomore Trio Connor arer Matt Coronado and Martin posil the Flames could get quite a bit of goals out of those guys if all goes to plan in terms of them actually playing well of course but where a real difference can be made is one of the best possession Duos in hockey when I first read this I read it as one of the best Duos in hockey and I thought oh my goodness the Flames are one of the best Duos in hockey but no best possession Duos in hockey with flames Captain Michael backin and Blake Coleman fresh off a career year anchoring the third line they'll have a new linemate after the departure of Andrew M japani but whether it's pel Coronado or another Ford filling in the line should be solid so that one can keep it very very very competitive of course the top two lines you expect them to score a little more our third line As We Know possession line more of a defensive line shutdown line even though they did get quite a lot of goals last season which brings us of course to the bottom line so putting together an energy line fourth line buzzing with Ryan lomberg and anyone able to keep Pace may not put them in Contender category but they might scrap out more wins the most are predicting either way it won't be boring and it's interesting here that's almost alluding to the 201 19 Calgary Flames who finished top of the Western Conference in the regular season a lot of that was in thanks to that fourth line that came out of nowhere and ended up being really really good so they're saying it could be a similar thing here you know maybe unexpectedly Play Good could make them unexpectedly competitive either way it will have major implications on the future of the Flames what if the Flames are actually good this season so ask yourself are the Flames good and should we be worried now let's wrap up this Comment of the Day video with the comment of the day as we love to do of course and this one goes with all these trade rumor talks it's from a couple videos ago now I believe but it comes from craar can tra can Trader Inc all right got it on the 17th try there but Canam Trader Inc says I would like us to trade Rasmus for a Lindy Hall and I think that's what we all really want is a Rasmus Anderson trade with a huge huge return I mean not everyone wants to see Anderson traded and it makes sense it also makes perfect sense for him to be traded this upcoming season but we'd expect at least a Lind Holm type return because Anderson he is valuable and the Flames know it we just hope the rest of the league and the market for him knows it as well thank you so much for watching this video please subscribe like what you saw here today and have a wonderful rest of your day
