New at six, a special prosecutor assigned to review Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones's actions following the 2020 election decided today that he will not pursue criminal charges. The director of the prosecuting Attorneys Council Pete scandal, Lais says Jones acted in a manner consistent with his position and was representing his constituents concerns when he signed an electoral college certificate, falsely declaring former president Donald Trump the winner of the election in Georgia. He was serving as a state senator at that time scandal. Lais took over the investigation in April after Fulton County District Attorney, Fannie Willis was barred from prosecuting Jones as part of her election interference case. She hosted a fundraiser for jones' opponent in the Lieutenant governor's race which a judge says created a conflict of interest. In a statement Jones said in part that I have always wanted to tell my story in front of a fair and unbiased prosecutor which Fannie Willis clearly is not. I am thankful that I finally had the opportunity to do that.
