[Music] welcome everyone to Arlington Texas at AT&T Stadium site of this year's Goodyear cotton bow part of course of the college football playoffs we got a tremendous match up for you tonight tailgating has been going on since the early morning and this place is locked and loaded as we'll see a squad from the ACC the North Carolina Tar Heels taking on the second ranked team the Ohio State Buck op for EA Sports college football I'm Chris fower joined here in the booth by KK Herm Street Kirk let's get to the action on the field and the Tar Heel to kick it away to start us off here's the return from inside the five he'll be tackled at the 18 that's good coverage there so the Ohio State Buckey offense DRS out there to open this game and here he comes the quarterback all eyes on him he's the guy that just makes everything go now this guy's Mr do at all it's almost odd to say this about a quarterback but he truly does he's the echo of the coach in the connector of this offense when everyone is hooked up to him this team operates at maximum capacity and that usually means their opposition is in trouble a game makes it second in medium looking to pass it's Howard the pass is intercepted can he take it all the way it's a big return off the int they steal their offensive possession Chris that one cost him he's just trying to get something started here early in the game trying to take a chance but it backfires the defense in great position to come up with that interception see if they can punch it in it's first and goal from the shotgun drops back he's running out of time here and with no for the open he chooses to just throw it away second down and goal upcoming looking a score they'll R it to the right side goes backwards losing three yards there well they get stopped here on second Down's going to bring up a third and goal situation and from this far back out wouldn't be surprised to see them go through the air just don't want the quarterback to take a sack here make sure he gets the ball out of his hands quickly offense moving backwards here a long way from the goal line now on Third and go he's going to try to throw for it he cannot Escape defense with a sack nothing is more gratifying for a defense to be able to sit back in Play Zone and still get pressure on the quarterback with your defensive [Music] [Music] front so here on fourth down out comes the field goal team the kick is good offense collects three points on the drive so we have our first points on the board that makes it three nothing so after the field goal the kicker out there again to boot it away he's going to return it from near the goal line not much on the return they'll stop him at the 24 good coverage here comes the powerful Ohio State offense onto the field this offense trying to bounce back the last possession and then in a pick a change in Direction he bring him down but the drive has now reached the 35 first down of 10 on the option it's Howard he's brought down but not before the gain to the 42 yd line o that came close to breaking into the secondary and potentially a big play read option the quarterback keeps it and why he didn't get a first down didn't get a nice chunk of yards me a nice tackle prevented it from going all the way getting set here's second down pre- snap motion from the offense a tackle him behind the line a loss of [Music] four not going to be easy here backed up a long way to go for a first down to the air it's Howard on the run here lets it Go caught quickly breaks loose at the 40 they finally get him but it's across Midfield big gain of the 33 well it's one thing to hear about how fast this receiver is and Scouting Report can't look at him on film all week the defense coordinator tells you get ready this guy can run and then the reality comes and this guy can fly you see it again here nice catch on first down it's playaction quick throw to his receiver grab down the middle it's auka they make the tackle but it sets the offense up for a first and goal from the 10 I understand the concept of Ring The Blitz and you hope that it gets home but if you don't you leave your corner and man demand situation against this wide receiver that is a tough ask for this corner and he's going to lose that battle more often than not takes the snap and takes off on the run and he's tackled down at the four yd line defense getting pushed back these quarterbacks today in the college game are so athletic they can beat you with their arm obviously just when you think you have them figured out they tuck the ball and go I'd expect this defense to put in a spy keep this quarterback from running coming up second down and goal here comes a handoff fights his way into the end zone touchdown Buckey well that's an ex example right there of what vision and patience and ability can do for running back he was on a mission to get into the end zone and really he made it look easy and now the try here for the extra point the extra point makes it a four-point game now they get set to kick it away the turn begins inside the town he's tackled at the 21 that's when the drive will start and here comes the North Carolina offense back out onto the field kept out of the end zone last time had to settle for a short field goal can they improve upon that here that's a nice tackle there by the senior second down after that run on the previous play on the hand off they'll test the right side here Powers through tackled behind the line it's a loss of two that's a great Play All Around by this defense your first level Defenders hold their own at the point of attack allowing the second and third level players to roam free and make the tackle close to the line of scrimmage well a serious challenge for this offense you don't want to be in third and long inside your own 20 how much of a risk will they take to try to pick up this first down and he finds a wide openen receiver they forgot about him downfield and they'll move the six on that one it's a first down to the 42 one of the areas that separates good offensive coordinators from great ones is how efficient their offense is on third down passing plays that was a perfect call and really well executed and the Tarheels hustle to the line to run the hurry up first down looking to throw the ball it's a short completion to the big tight end brought down but crosses Midfield to the 46 that's the thing with this guy you've got the ability to flex him out he shows his versatility what he can do from that slop position he could be the quarterback safety blanket and the Tar Heels Pi up enough for a first down handing off on the draw play they stop him after a 6yd gain so second and four the draws a good way to keep the defensive line in check and use their aggressiveness against them it can be real effective even in passing situations if you mix it incorrectly the game makes it second and medium good why out goes in motion on the ground it's Hampton and they tackle him but not before he picks up the first and the tar Hills come to the line to start of fresh set of downs they'll give it to the back fits through the tackler tackle made at the 24 yd Line This offense really threatening now how about the offensive line here just a hat on a hat opening up just enough room for the back to squeeze through there for a nice game it's a first and 10 play coming up for the offense Back In Motion now looking at throw it on first down that's real in it's Hampton short completion there second down coming up looking downfield it's Johnson catch made on the left side they down the receiver but that's a nice gain on that play these undersiz slot receivers can be some of the toughest guys to contain for a defense they're quicker than they really are fast and they're very elusive tough to contain in these one-on-one matchups and the Tar Heels look at a cash in in the Red Zone on third down it's a handoff he picks up the first down before they get him to the ground nice first down run here by this running back and these are the kind of sit situations on Third and short that you can gain a lot of momentum or it can kill a drive and kill the confidence of an offense here they pick up the nice first down which is great new set of downs but it also gives you a lot of confidence that you can wear that defense down psychologically and in first down they go right back to him Runner finally brought down but at the 5 yd line defense getting pushed back here [Music] so here comes second down now every play important down here in the Red Zone it's a quarterback keeper oh they test the middle of the defense but get nothing boy the options dried up quickly for the quarterback here very very fortunate he was somehow able to get back to the line of scrimmage so here we go third down in the Red Zone the kind of play that decides football games on Third and short they'll try to throw for it here nowhere to go here and the ball is knocked loose defense has got the football pass Midfield the 40 the 30 inside the 10 touchdown Ohio State the defense adds six points that is any defender's dream comes up with a fumble takes it back to the the house I can't believe the speed that this guy has be able to score I thought maybe pick it up maybe go a few yards but instead he took it all the way to the end zone so they try to add to the lead now with the pat and the kick is up and good they tack on a point to their lead here's the kickoff team Now set a boot this one away Fields it just outside the goal line and he stopped at the 19 good job by the coverage team and the tar Hills offense about out on the field now they run a draw play tackled behind the line it's a loss of two man the defensive coordinator has to be fired up about this play the thing that he has to love is that his defense and their technique was right on point they didn't lose their leverage they stayed with the play and didn't just go after the quarterback after the first down loss it's second and long from the 17 dropping back it's John son receiver makes the catch goes down after making the grab that's not going to be enough for a first down really good defenses put an emphasis on winning the early Downs that means holding your own on first and second down so you force the offense to consistently have to try on Third and long that's exactly what's happened here in this series fakes the handoff here looking to throw it has no one to throw there on third down and now it's a fourth down coming up boy it looked like the quarterback had everything that he needed there had great protection receiver ran a nice route just not able to convert there on that third down let's see what their decision is on fourth down coming up and the Tar Heels bring their punt team onto the field fair catch made at the 35 here comes the powerful Buckeye offense back onto the field passing game was clicking beautifully in the last drive right down for a touchdown let's see if they can do it again option look it's Howard no hand off there and they smuff him it's a nice job by this defense they saw option actually forced the quarterback to pull the ball on the read then they caral him for a loss you could tell they worked hard on that in practice offense comes up to the line they might have a chance for a couple more plays before the quarter expires quarterback looking to throw it on second down caught over the middle it's Uka defense makes the tackle as the final seconds of this first quarter run out well Ohio state has the lead here Kirk solid performance so far creating some separation here's the first quarter [Music] stats crucial stage of the game as we begin the second quarter is this one going to get out of here now from the 40 the offense faces a third and long to keep this drive going looking downfield it's Howard it's caught nice pitching catch well this is a great catch he does a nice job of getting his feet down to set up a fourth down and short situation but man I just don't know why he didn't try to fight to get to that marker and pick up a first down the Buckey will send their punt team onto the field he's on to boot it away now and the matur man decides to Signal fair Catch and the North Carolina offense is back out there on the field they're coming off a quick three and out so looking to put something together on this drive with a little more urgency Runner scoots out of bounds after gaining decent yards [Music] and the tar Hills come to the line to run the hurry up there's the wide receiver coming in motion now a pop pass on the Jet Sweep running past the 35 oh and he's in the clear now it's a foot race an explosive play Big gain across Midfield to the 42 man I really love the way more and more offenses are using the receiver in motion pre now give him a chance to get the football with a couple blockers in front of him he's got all that speed built up you get the ball in his hands and you better look out he could be Off to the Races thrown quick they caught in the right flag defense surrounds him just a short gain on that completion second down after that run on the previous Play Short connection to the tight end here finally out of bounds after a solid gain but there is a flag on the field so let's check this out pretty easy call for the head coach he will accept that penalty of course second down after that previous play looking to throw yet again launches downfield grab down the middle it's Johnson tackle made after a big game the offense finally inducing here sets up a first and 10 grab behind the line it's Johnson defense reacts quickly a very short gain on the play It's the tight end Flex out into the slot looking for a matchup there K well it is a matchup because he has the size where he's very difficult to be able to match up for his safety and he's got the speed to be able to outrun a linebacker that's why they like to flex him out like that and be able to pick up nice big gains like this looking for some space it's Hampton fights off a Defender they'll stop him behind the line for a loss of one I mean Chris you have to admire this offense they continue to try to sprinkle in the Run game even though it's not been able to really get established but they're not just becoming one-dimensional you got to respect that and hopefully at some point it'll pay off they're backed up here trying to make something happen on Third and long dropping back going to throw for the first down all the way to the end zone touchdown tar Hills they were backed up to start the drive it's some bold play calling great execution and reach the ends up you know it's easy to just kind of pull your horns in and get conservative when you're pushed way back close to your own goal line but not this offense they came out showed the confidence that they have in their quarterback and it paid off nice touchdown here comes the point after attempt KRA point is good they draw within four 1410 kickoff team on the field getting set now and he'll bring it out from inside the 10 and he stopped at the 19 good job by the coverage team and the yate offense comes back onto the field they had to put the ball last time now they're looking to add points build on this lead physical defending that one Falls incomplete brings up second down what a hit there by the defender tough for the receiver hold on to the football when he has that kind of contact good clean play by the defense you completion makes it second down looking for a gap it's Henderson [Music] offense been in Reverse here now a long way to go to get hurt this third down dropping back it's Howard he's got an open man downfield and it's caught he stop him at the 45 but that's good for a first down most defensive coordinators focus a lot of their energy on how their unit performs on third down and in the Red Zone they give up a couple more third down conversions like that and they're in for a very unpleasant film session on Monday the Buckeyes will have first and 10 here gives it to the back and they tackle him but a nice pick up on that running [Music] play second down after that run on the previous play what guys look to keep this drive moving yeah you know this defense has got to be frustrated after giving a multiple conversions now on first downs there's another one but for the offense and they're just playing very efficiently right now the Buckeyes pick up enough to get a first down there and there's the handoff Jukes to get freed [Music] sixth play of the drive coming [Music] up caught in the back field it's Smith receiver brought down after a short pitch and catch Chris it's so easy to get excited about the receivers on the out side and their ability to make big plays but the slot receivers are just as exciting especially with their finesse quickness and ability to make guys miss in the middle of that field important third down play coming up looking to pick up the first down through the air caught over the middle it's Scott they pick up the first down tackled at the 25 good job of reading the blitz here by the quarterback and it doesn't matter where it's coming from the tight end knows that they become a big part of the passing game because they should be an outlet anytime you see that kind of pressure those extra bodies are starting to come after the quarterback quarterback's going to turn and get the ball out of his hands quickly this time to the tight end for the first down finds that big tight end for a short pass they make the tackle but not before a solid gain on that pass the Buckeyes are in the Red Zone takes the hand off looking to throw CAU on the outside it's Scott He steps out of bounds but more than enough yardage to set up first and goal well the Defense loads up to show Blitz and anytime they bring that kind of pressure the quarterback knows he's got to be able to get the ball out of his hands quickly nice job of locating the tight end for that first down whaty was trying to punch in it's first and goal they're moving the receiver now before the snap first and goal they'll try to run it in Bia brought down at the four offense in great scoring position here Chris down here inside a 10 yd line these are tough yards to come by positive yards good push inside there by that offensive line see if the offense can punch it in on second and goal [Music] ball handed off you seen you able to make the stop after a short gain good job by the offensive line you get some positive yards not quite into the end zone now we're going to have a third and goal they break the Huddle for third and goal they're two for two on third down to the drive back to throw it's Howard pressure is coming he's moving out of the pocket now it's a sack they trap him inside the five boy the defense would not be denied on this play they come up with a sack quarterback really didn't have much of a chance at all lucky he just held on to the ball so now on comes the field goal unit so it'll be a Chip Shot from the right hash mark and field goal is good [Music] following the field goal the kickoff team is out there now return starts from inside the five and he stopped at the 19 good job by the coverage team and here comes the North Carolina offense back out onto the field they scored a touchdown on the last possession let's see if this defense has been able to come up with some adjustments and stop him this time I'm not sure the quarterback makes the right decision on this one I think if he do it over again would have found a different Target downfield but he made his decision that one's incomplete offense lines up for a second Dam play off the incompletion drops back from the shotgun looking for an open man receiver looks it in it's complete that's a big game before goes out of bounds it'll move the sticks more than enough for a first down a completion good for a first down the offense working with a new set of downs here they're going to run it here goes backwards losing three yards there D this defense continues to just be physical it's a line of scrimmage offense can't do anything on the ground and by doing that this defense is allowing their defensive front to get pressure on the quarterback every time they drop back to throw they become a one-dimensional offense On The Run it's Hampton tackle finally made that's a very solid gain but not close to first down yardage yet when you can get good chunks of yardage like this on early Downs it just keeps you on schedule leading to more manage third down situations never underestimate the value of consistently getting four more yards a popped like that drops back needing a third down completion here cannot Escape it down he goes I mean that's another sack Chris I mean we just getting started here first half you're already talking about giving up three sacks you got to think about changing things up schematically help that offensive line and help that poor quarterback before he gets killed [Music] and the Tar Heels will line up to kick it away it's the two-minute warning in this close first half the offense trying to score and clean the lead before the break the punt team making their way on the field and he'll kick it away now for the second time this one will be fair caught okay here comes the Ohio State offense back on the field the last possession they settled for a field goal but really worked on the clock let's see if they can do that again with the lead and looking to throw now on first down and it's caught way downfield inside the 35 tackle made quickly but a big chunk play for this offense through the air what a pitch and catch by the quarterback back in receiver for a big gain for this offense BR set it down to the offense first down to throw it's Howard caught near the goal line and he scores touchdown Buckey so still early but this offense beginning to build momentum and build the lead now as we've seen over the years Chris good teams know how to use the first quarter to establish the lead the second quarter to increase the lead and the final half just to hold on to it they're following that blueprint perfectly widening the distance between them and their opponent before we even get to the locker rooms so they'll try to add to the lead now with the pat extra point is good and they stretch the lead a little bit more kickoff team is on the field let's see if they give the returner a chance to bring this one back and he takes this from inside the five they stop him at the 23 that's solid coverage and the tar Hills offense is back out on the field not a whole lot of time remaining before halftime to cut into this lead on First and 10 here looking to throw the ball defens is coming after him just gets the pass away but took a shot that time Chris this offensive coordinator is going to have to adjust we've seen hits and sacks and pressure on this quarterback all game long they've got to find a solution to create more time for the quarterback to be able to throw the football or maybe completely overhaul and change what they're doing on offense he's back to throw again on second down and he can't escape it's a sack for the defense and now the defense will call a timeout here there's something they didn't like about that look and they'll make an adjustment before this important play so a tricky situation here third and very long inside your own 20 how much of a risk do you take you know this defense could be very aggressive at this moment tackled behind the line it's a loss of two and now the defense decides suspend a timeout to regroup a bit and the Tar Heels will have to kick it away offense sces backwards on this drive he's on to putt it away now he's got some daylight turning on the speed coverage team brings down the returner here comes the Buckey offense onto the field they punch it into the end zone the last time let's see if this defense has made some adjustments to stop him this time bringing pressure down he goes a sack there's a nice sack by this defense something that they've been looking for they've been on their heels most of this football game that time they were able to get after the quarterback and bring him down let's see if that can provide a bit of a spark see if they can get a little bit of momentum going their [Music] way sack sets up second down dropping back it's Howard short go to the sideline forced out after just a short gain oh he goes down after a short game that's not enough for the first down again this is a really nice job here by the defense keeping everything in front of them in that situation now they're rewarded with this third and long we'll see if they do the same thing here or they going to sell out and bring the pressure close to the tight end and he's got his b and open downfield they bring him down but a big chunk of yardage on the play Just excellent execution here by the offense they've set themsel up nicely now into the Red Zone to see if they can come up with a touchdown the bricke eyeses begin a new series here first and 10 from inside the Red Zone they're looking to throw catch made look for the goal line doesn't quite get in but it sets up a first and goal for this offense so a timeout is called just a few seconds left here in the first half so on first down the caral unit will come out there trying to get three points before the half he knocks this one right through and that will extend their even further so here's the kickoff now offense settling for three tacking on a little bit of momentum before the halim break he'll return it from inside the 10 yd line he'll be brought down and that will wrap up the first half of play M's going to wrap up the first half here let's kick it now to Kevin Connor with our halftime update then we wondered all week how this one was going to play out and through two quarters of ball the answer is like a good oldfashioned barn burner two quarters of both sides feeling each other out and it's likely to come down to which off defense can find a way to generate some big plays adjustments will be a part of it maybe it's time these typically conservative play callers open up the Playbook nothing crazy but a calculated risk here and there to try to gain an edge in what's been a stalemate it's time to throw it back to our guys in the booth to start up the second half Fields it inside the 5 yd line he'll be tackled at the 18 that's good coverage there and the North Carolina offense is back out there on the field play action here on first down pass rush closing in oh a sack the senior on this defense making up big Play What a play Here by this defensive line you can get so caught up in the flashy offense of Ohio State in recent years but let's not forget they still play defense in the shoe and have such great history and Trad I condition with that defensive line play second down and long now from their own six looking to pass it's Johnson he finds the running back in the flat and he's brought down but they went backwards after the completion good work by the defense man the defense was all over that play just left him almost no room to work after catching the ball urgency now for the offense that hate to come up empty on this drive down multiple scores and the single back takes a handoff and the result is going to be a safety man that is a big time play by this defense and the only way they can score points without getting a turnover that should give this team a spark [Music] so after giving up the safety here's the free kick okay here comes the Ohio State offense back on the field and this offense trying to build in a very impressive first half performance trying to stretch the lead right away here in the third an exciting spin move but doesn't produce much of a game well this guy's got some wiggle and you can see there he's got some power he's able to break through one arm tackle but the secondary comes up to finish him off second down after that run on the previous play offense will keep it on the ground here tackle made after a solid one by the Junior first down here for this offense they snap it quarterback looking to throw the ball it's an out route the catch made and the runner scoots out of ounds after gaining some decent yardage [Music] offense getting set up here's second down quick throw caught on the left side he'll be taken down but he does have first down yardage you know each receiver brings something a little bit different to the table Chris to me the outside receivers usually are a little bit longer taller guys you get those slot receivers in the inside not only can they make the catch but they have quickness to make plays after the catch great example of that right here grab down the middle it's Tate they bring him down but that's a solid gain on the play it's really good timing here between the quarterback and the receiver and how about the receiver downfield does a nice job of finding that open space in the zone of the defense and as a defense you're just basically throwing your hands up in the air because they had that covered relatively well just a good play call and good execution here comes a throw from the Red Zone caught over the middle it's Scott but a huge hit by the linebacker what a tackle second down after that completion [Music] looking to Chuck it again with the catch it's Tate brought down at the five after the completion defense getting push back quarterback sees that this defense is dropping way back in zone coverage so he does the right thing gets it underneath to that drag route and picks up a first down the Buckeyes line it up with first and goal the try to run it with the option pitch to The Back touchdown Ohio State and the route is on I think we're starting to kind of see a theme here Chris today that's his second touchdown the offensive line doing their job and he's doing an outstanding job of just reading the defense finding the hole and being able to pick up big yards and touchdowns so they'll try to add to the lead now with the Pat and the kick is up and good they tack on a point to their lead kickoff team is on the field to boot this one away returner looking to create better field position solid job by the coverage team they bring him down at the 16 and here comes North Carolina offense back out onto the field remember the last time out there they surrendered a safety they got to regroup from that right away running out of time in the pocket and just like that you squeeze the life out of this offense that's another sacked by this defense they have been in that back field the entire game and a big reason why these guys are enjoying a lead second down now after the sack to throw it's Johnson looks to the left for a quick throw looks downfield and connects with a wide open wide receiver heads out of bounds after a solid gain more than enough to pick up a first down all that work you put in in the Summer with the receivers and the quarterbacks this is where it pays off this is where that trust really can play out this receiver lines up on the right side of the formation works all the way across and a quarterback almost could close his eyes knows exactly where his man will be and puts it right on the money it's a draw to the back tackled behind the line it's a loss of two Chris I'll be really honest with you I don't know why they continue to try to run the football I'm all about balance I'm all about trying to make sure a defense has to defend the run and the throw but at this point in the game they haven't been able to run the ball they're going to have to go through the air if they're going to come back and take the lead in this game at some point play action fake looking to throw on the junor gets home making a sack there well Chris after another sack these guys are going to be facing another third down and long situation it seems like that's been the theme in this football game they cannot stay on schedule offensively making it very easy for the defense to get after the quarterback when you know he's in a must throw situation after consecutive losses they need a miracle here on Third and a mile quarterback drops back from the shotgun lofting it toward the left sideline and it's incomplete he let it fly on third down but now it brings up fourth most offensive coaches will be happy taking those 50/50 shots against man coverage but I'm curious to see if they're going to test this DB again after that coverage and the Tar Heels will line up to pun it away [Music] oh he's got a crease here look out and the returner will be brought down here comes the powerful Ohio State offense onto the field slags a quick throw he's brought down but the gain moves the ball to the 39 this line getting set up it's a first down play off the play fake looking to throw catch made on the out route it'll go down after a nice pickup on the play it'll be a first down well you wonder if the receiver adjusted his route to get closer to that first down line whatever he did it works move the sticks first down play call how aggressive will it be play action fake looking to throw fires it to the Wi out makes the catch can he get in touchdown Buckey to stretch the lead the route is on well that's a well oiled machine right there everyone on this offense has been a star in their rolls and when they're rolling like this it results in quick and positive results so they'll try to add to the lead now with the [Music] pat extra point is good and they stretch the lead need a little bit more the kickoff team on the field now as they get set to send this one away they'll return it from inside the five and the return it brought down by the coverage team there and the tar Hills offense is back out on the field they were forced to PL it away last time so let's see if they can get clicking in this possession hand off from the shotgun that's a nice tackle there by the [Music] senior offense getting set it's second down shotgun formation here's an inside handoff mooves the ball at the 25 good enough for a first [Music] down they flip it to him on the Jet Sweep running with purpose tackle made at the 37 that's it's a solid game looks like a player is down injured at that last play we'll take a timeout where they check it out and the Tar Heels with first and 10 here quick throw that's an RPO caught on the left side the defense drops him for a loss he went backwards there a second down behind the sticks now you know what separates good defenses from great defenses is you're going to give up some catches but what do you do after the offense makes the reception are you giving up much space so you giving up yards after the catch here just a really good job by this defense yeah they gave up a reception but right there to make a nice tackle for a loss nice run he's brought down to the 44 boy trolls and screens are a great way to counter an effective pass rush allow those defensive ends to get upfield and then hand it off at the last second the punter has been very busy so far can they finally convert here on third down Quick Pass here comes a Jet Sweep the defense swarms to make a tackle for loss on that third down catch I I really like the idea on third down I can kind of see the thought process there make an unconventional call on third down sometimes that can work out but the defense was just prepped and ready for it this time and the Tar Heels will have to pun this one away make adjustments come up with a stop here goes backwards losing three yards there there you go defense listen it's not been a great day for these guys but this time they stepped up and took out some of that frust ation nice Play Short loss in the play sets up second and long from the 18 quarterback keeps the football minimal gain brought down short of the marker well anytime you use your quarterback as a runner the goal was obviously to hit some big plays you got to be careful letting your quarterback take too many big hits not only can he get t tired he can also start to Fumble the football well a serious challenge for this offense you don't want to be in third and long inside your own 20 how much of a risk will they take to try to pick up this first down he makes the grab out of bounds but not before a big game this offense is ripping the defense apart today it's almost like they don't have another receiver to throw the ball to this guy's been making all kinds of plays today and this time he decides to show off some fancy footwork and somehow stays in Bound BS the offense operating at Peak efficiency they come to the line again and a short pitch and catch to the tight end to get him down quickly not much of a gain on that completion pass complete it's second down now option look it's Howard and the runner brought down after just a short game GA will line up chance for a couple more plays before the end of the quarter to throw it's Howard quick throw complete to the tight end B carrier brought down what is the final play of this third quarter well Ohio state has the lead here after one hasn't been much of a contest so far and the stats will reflect [Music] that one quarter to play of what has been a beat down so far buty pick up enough yardage for a first down going to run it it's Henderson you make the tackle but that's an excellent game movs the ball to a 33 you know I'd say this run is pretty emblematic of what we've seen all day long no matter what they've done on offense the guys up front have controlled the line of scrimmage they've given a quarterback time to throw they've been able to run really whatever they wanted to that's why the points are going up on the board and right now the psyche this offense is we're in control and we can do whatever we want whatever we feel like doing able to fight for a decent gain in that running play a game makes it second and medium receiver in motion now second down looking to throw it and it falls incomplete that's everything you want to see from an offense great execution the line gave the quarterback quarterback makes a great read throws it to his guy and the receiver drops it now he's going to have to shake that off and get ready to make that next play after the incompletion they'll face a third and [Music] six out of the shotgun he'll hand it off he's not going to get the first down it's fourth down now the Buckeyes will look to convert here on fourth down offense moving receivers around now before the snap here we go fourth down they'll try to run for it game moves the ball to the 21 and a fresh set of downs that's how you know an offensive coordinator really believes in the offensive line you get to Fourth Down you don't spread out a defense and try to create a one-on-one match up and throw the ball you go the oldfashioned way you get behind that offensive line you get the yards you need and you extend this drive with that first down Q decides to keep it here there's the tackle but first down yardage just a great gain here by this offense and by the quarterback on the option call and this defense has got to get back to Old School assignment football somebody has got to account for the quarterback nobody had him there and he comes up with a big game the Buckeyes will line up now it's first and goal moving the receiver around free snap first and goal handoff tackled behind the line it's a loss of two but these obvious running situations are very tough when you're working with the lead late in the game cuz you know the defense is going to stack the line of scrimmage make it as difficult as possible for you to run the football so nice job there by the defense they're trying to punch that ball out do anything they can at all to get the ball back trying for the touchdown on the right side they tackle him behind the line a loss of four boy they're just not successful here on second and goal but let's give a lot of credit to this defense they've looked good on these first two opportunities by the offense they strung that last play out and forced a loss of yardage bringing up third down great job for the defense so far it's third and goal from a long way out shotgun formation here's an inside give picks up about three yards there but it's going to be fourth down a tell you what considering they've been out there for a long time on this drive they sure showed a lot of endurance there coming up with a big stop and now it's Fourth and goal and as an offensive coordinator and head coach with this kind of drive it just seems like you'd be missing something by not coming away with a touchdown so on fourth down the decision is to try out the field goal team kick is good gives the offense three points to show for that drive and they add to their lead so after adding to this this big lead they'll set to kick it away and here's the return from inside the five to be tackled at the 17 strong job by the coverage team and the North Carolina offense is back out there on the field last possession they were forced to kick it away can they finally get things going this time the pocket breaking down it's a sack they've got him back at the four yd line man how impressive have these guys been in this football game I really expected to see a very different outcome with the hype of this quarterback and the way he's played most of this year but this defense has held him under 200 yd passing they've got a nice lead and they are not sitting back and resting on their Laurels they're applying more pressure and they come up with a sack here a sack sets up a second down and very long single back takes the handoff they bring him down that's a very solid game but still well short of the first down so a tricky situation here third and very long inside your own 20 how much of a risk do you take you know this defense could be very aggressive at this moment when the tackle is made the defense was ready for that screen they stop him short from the first down screen plays are risky because the defense can get to the quarterback and it also can be covered many times quarterback just throws it away here they get some positive yards down late they'll keep the offense on the field trying to chip away at this lead he's running out of time here and they've got him a sack to end the drive what a play by this defense that's really good coverage downfield and it just looked like the quarterback was waiting and waiting and waiting a little bit too long by the time he decides to try to make a throw nothing's open and result is a sack and a turnover on downs and the oio state offense comes back onto the field that last possession produced a field goal but more importantly it milked the clock and they do that again look him out throwing here to start the drive makes the grab a chance to score touchdown Ohio State stretching the lead this one is getting ugly boy they just continue to do everything right this offense has looked outstanding from the opening Series all the way up to this point doing everything that's asked of them great execution and put another touchdown up on the board now they line up to kick the extra point and the PC is good as they continue to pull away even more now the kickoff team is out on the field he's going to return it from near the goal line he'll be tackled at the 18 that's good coverage there and here comes the North Carolina offense back out onto the field the last time they went for it on fourth down didn't get it and it ended up costing them six points he fires this throw and is intercepted big takeaway now looking for a big return touchdown Buckey wow what a play defensive score great job here by the defense coming up with yet another play boy they are just pouring it on today dominating in every [Music] face they're setting now to try the pat p is good as they build on this big lead K team has come on the field now to send this one away Fields it just outside the goal line they'll be tackled at the 17 strong job by the coverage team and the tar Hills offense is back out on the field it'll be interesting to see if this quarterback can bounce back he threw a pick six in the last possession and he will be stuffed for No Gain well they're just fundamentally sound right where you want to be after the completion nowhere to go after that catch now it's second down here to the air it's Johnson looking for the wide out easy throw to a wideopen receiver downfield they keep keep the drive going it's a first out of the 46 finally good for them they come up with a big play like this let's face it offense has been in a premium for these guys you wonder where plays like this have been all game long the offense really clicking against this embattled defense on First and 10 looking a throw the defender gets a hand in there to break the pass up that defensive back played that rout out so well right on the receiver's hip he saw the ball and just squatted it [Music] away second down after the incompletion from the shotgun he's probing the secondary and try a downfield shot that's a good effort there but now it's third down well they don't connect here but this is what you have to do it's late in the game you need points you're behind you got to take some shots I'd go right back to it try to find a matchup and go to one of your receivers that can make a play for you and he'll drop back here on third down short pass finds the tight end and the Tar Heels will send the punt team onto the field forced to kick it away for the sixth time not what he was hoping for instead of pinning the offense deep it's a Touchback okay here comes the Ohio State offense back on the field takes the hand off it's Judkins stop right there at the line no gain second down play coming up for this offense quarterback pulls the ball it's a keeper already got the first down but looking for more yardage but the defense may want to huddle up and try to figure out who's got the quarterback nobody takes the quarterback and he's got the speed to make you pay for it the defensive coordinator may want to change his scheme up because that did not look good offense will set up on First and 10 out of the shotgun he hands it off solid gain moves the ball to the 37 second down after that run on the previous play and the back gets the football sto at the 43 but that's enough to make a first down what guys are looking to keep this drive going he'll use that running game trying to bleed the clock here he's brought down but not before Crossing Midfield to the 42 Chris what I love here is just The Vision by the running back showing great patience the whole opens up and then he's able to use his speed to pick up some good yards the Buckeyes lining up here on First and 10 now they'll run it on the toss goes backwards losing three yards there but how about the defensive speed there in team Pursuit they recognize the toss sweep from the middle of the field and show their team speed to be able to eliminate this Play here's the second down play [Music] the shotgun handoff here and that's a solid gain for the defense able to bring him down and that's the two-minute warning as this offense tries to work the clock getting closer now to an impressive [Music] Victory they come to the line a long way to go for the first down but needing this crucial conversion right now back to pass it's Howard looking for his back cannot connect incomplete and now fourth [Music] down the Buckeyes will line up to boot it away looking to kick it away for the second time kick lands out of bounds they'll spot this down around the 20 and the North Carolina offense is back out there on on the field it's been a rough game for this offense a constellation touchdown is all they're playing for at this point CHR now that we're in the final couple minutes of this game it's a good time to just kind of step back and appreciate the job this defense has done throughout the entire game they've applied pressure they've been physical at the line of scrimmage good job in space and a big part of the reason that they have such a big lead today second down play coming up and he'll set up to throw running back has it on a screen now what a move breaking ankles and still going and a big game before he goes out of bounds the offense keeps churning gets a fresh set of downs Bo this is great execution here on this screen play to the running back to pick up big yards in the first down I think in a process Chris they send a message to the defense you can Rush our quarterback all you want but when you do you better be careful cuz we're going to throw the screen on you first down look going to throw the football it's a short completion of the tight end they bring him down down after a short gain there well we just continue to see this defense make great plays especially with their tackling and the awareness to understand we're in the fourth quarter you're trying to keep this offense inbounds so they keep that clock moving that completion makes it second down quarterback drops back looks to the left and it's complete not much after the catch but it is good enough for a first down a new set of downs after that completion dropping back it's Johnson pressure is coming got him for a sack a big play made by one of the senior leaders of this defense it is a sack party out there for this defense everything going their way you know that this offense is going to try to throw the football down by such a big margin late in the game and this defensive line is bringing the heat they come up with another sack the offense will look to regroup here at second and 11 from the shotgun drops back and there's a deep throw at the clock winding down he's got it right near the end zone tackle made at the one yd line but it'll be first and goal after the huge play they're pounding on the door it's first and goal at the three and he drops back in the gun defense is coming after him and with nobody open he choosing to just throw
