Aaron Boone on Austin Wells continuing to succeed in middle of Yankees lineup following win over KC

Erin Austin Wells has not only held his own behind the plate but but he's had success there and now offensively he just seems so confident when he steps the plate he shown you can be consistent did you expect this out of him when you guys broke him no not not not to this level not to the level he's been now for a couple months hitting in the Four Hole hitting behind Aaron judge and for for good reason it's been at bats like that it's just a really good at bat um with power you know and and I think he's really um he's really benefited and and and gained from the experience that he's gotten now playing a little bit in the league and just getting more settled in the Box having an idea what the opponent's doing um and and playing with a lot of confidence a rookie hitting behind Aon judge in the fourth spot for the New York Yankees could be a a daunting you know thing to look at perhaps but what do you think has allowed him to just Thrive so much in that spot you know I think he's always been able to hit you know this is this is a guy that was drafted because he was a really good hitter um you know and ironically it was it was the defense that came first at this level in in my view and uh you know hit into some tough luck a little bit early um you know was kind of split in time um but he is I mean he's been a middle- ofth order hitter for two three months now and and I think we've all seen that and witnessed that and you just and look whether you get a result or not it's just the level of it bat that he gives you uh from the left side is is impressive and that was a no doubter tonight do you think well should be high in the American League Rookie of the Year race yes good to see him you know throw a knockout there went the other way uh I thought he had some good passes on some balls just missed a couple uh all in all look comfortable Verdugo must be aware of the situation with Dominguez coming up what does that say about him that he's able to have this kind of night on the day that Jason gets called up to yeah uh thought he had good at bats too um look he's he's been having better at bats I feel like over the last you know couple weeks um you know big Homer there to get us right back into it you know after we had been held down there again where I thought we had some good at bats but didn't have anything to show for it boom little early strike to give us a lead there was big good at bat late with two strikes there in that big inning to pile on so um it's about this time of year it's about being a pro and and he he did a lot of uh you know gave us some professional bats tonight for sure Roto was good you know he he uh you know we didn't catch the ball for him you know in that first inning gave up a run gives up the solo shot to salvi which he can live with um you know and then probably gave him another one um but I thought overall I thought he threw the ball really well I thought his fast ball was good change up was really good um even though Renfro got him on it um but I I actually thought he had some really good swing and miss going with that pitch um spun the ball well uh all in all he gave us a good six innings
