Harbaughs Penalties once again the Michigan Wolverines find themselves grabbing some headlines for their off- the field beef with the NCAA pun intended there to talk about that and some on thefield stuff about the Wolverines we have the Wolverines Clayton safy joining us here Clayton we have Jim Harbaugh getting hit with the four-year show cause we have the notice of allegations draft showing some potential penalties down the line for the Wolverines what were your reactions to the news last week and do you see any potential punishment moving forward for Chiron Mo in this Michigan program yeah well uh I guess you know the two separate cases and sometimes it's hard to you know keep exactly straight but Jim Harbaugh Sha's coming for the recruiting violations that Michigan committed during the co Dead period then obviously invest or the NCAA said that he misled investigators based on his testimony there as they were looking into that one so pretty harsh punishment um on the surface but when you consider the fact that he's not going to be in college football in the next four years it's really not much of a punishment at all um in part of the lack of cooperation there was his failure to hand over thousands of emails after he had already taken the Chargers job so basically once he was outside of the jurisdiction of the NCAA he didn't cooperate anymore uh in late January and Tom Mars his attorney released some of that correspondence with the NCAA and then on the shamore Chiron Mo front uh you know that news obviously coming out of the the leaked draft of the notice of allegations not the final draft uh that he deleted text messages with Conor stallion once news came down that he was at the center of the investigation into sign stealing uh those were eventually turned over by Chiron Moore they were able to to find them through his device after they were deleted um and that you know wasn't a serious allegation coming from that so I know that it was reported by ESPN that a potential suspension could come down I mean obviously that that seems possible but I would bet against it just because it seems like the tax don't really contain anything damning against chirome Moore and Michigan likely knew about this before they hired him as the head coach uh which is also you know good news for Michigan fans that and really that nobody knows the you know what the texts say at this point they haven't been released but uh I think the indicators are there that it's it's really not all that serious well Clayton along with all Sign Stealing Investigation of that we have Netflix releasing a part of their docu series un told titled sence stealer that's going to center around Conor Stallions in this whole sign stealing investigation and whaton went down there what do you expect to see in that documentary episode and what do you think it could maybe serve as is potentially a distraction for maybe Michigan this season coming into the year with this coming out in August yeah I mean they timed it out perfectly right August 27th so uh I think that's what right after week zero and obviously leading into the the week one slate where Michigan will open on H the 31st there against Fresno State so I mean I think it could be some sort of of a distraction I think it's going to be more on social media though than inside the program um they've done a really good job job this program of just kind of blocking out the outside noise I mean we all saw what they did last season at the end of the year without Jim Harbaugh at the end of the regular season with you know all sorts of things swirling and they've been able to just kind of operate business as usual so you know when some news came down on the ncle uh with the N last week you know you're talking to players during fall camp and they all say they're just used to it and they said hey next week it'll be something else right uh they're used to it at this point they've gone through off Seasons where people are saying Jim Harbaugh is going to leave then viously he eventually did and they had a coaching change so these players have had a lot thrown at them I think they'll handle it pretty well as far as the contents of the documentary I think you know probably be positive from a Michigan standpoint where you know it'll shed some more light on what exactly does go on in college football you know stealing signs is is obviously part of the game you can't do certain things that that are alleged in terms of having people go to games and Scout in advance but I think it'll add some more information uh in context to the entire story but do I think it's going to change the minds of people who don't like Michigan like Ohio State fans no do I think it'll change the minds of Michigan fans maybe it'll embolden their position but uh nonetheless I think it'll be interesting maybe for the Casual fans to kind of understand you know a little more context about the situation well I know I can't wait to QB Battle watch it and I can't wait to watch Michigan this year and to Center and focus more on the field let's talk about this quarterback battle JJ McCarthy obviously departs we have Alex orgy and Davis Warren now battling for that number one quarterback spot based on what you've heard and seen through fall Camp what are your expectations as far as who can potentially be that quarterback one for Michigan when week one comes around yeah well it's interesting because Jack Tuttle who's also in the mix in his seventh year of college football you know our Chris Bas reported last week that he's he was a little limited uh early on in Fall camp and he missed all of spring with a shoulder injury uh that he was recovering from from last season so I think that that's definitely a factor and he's had trouble staying healthy in the past so I think that's a concern if you're Michigan but you know like you said the word you know kind of mid last week was that Alex orgy who is the number 13 freak in the country according to Bruce Feldman and obviously a really good runner uh but that he has improved as a passer now how improved I think is is a big question there but certainly if you consider his dual threat ability if he can be an adequate passer for Michigan I think he seems like the favorite to be the top option and then Davis Warren you can't rule him out we've been saying that since the spring but it seems like he's stacked some really good days in Fall Camp from what some of his teammates have said as well and you know one teammate Quinton Johnson on the defensive side of the ball saying he's he's been the best passer so far that was last week so I I think that you know it's pretty open soaj Morgan sophomore wide receiver said on Monday that yeah it's a pure battle like it's a true quarterback competition um and you know I think Michigan wants somebody to separate they still have a little bit of time here before the opener for someone to do that um it' be interesting to see kind of how it plays out and I think they could still use multiple quarterbacks I think that's a possibility as well that'll be a Big Picture definitely an interesting thing to watch and really a lot of open vacancies for this team you're talking about a program that had 13 players drafted last year given those losses given the coaches losses as well even the different look of this conference when you're talking big picture about this team what do you think Michigan is going to look like as far as defending their National Title defending their big title this up Big 10 title rather this upcoming season yeah I mean it's it's interesting I I think that they're going to lean on the strength of the the team which is the defense spe uh specifically the front seven I think is going to be really really good I mean potentially the top defensive tackle duo in the country with Kenneth uh Kenneth Grant and Mason Graham and maybe the best corner in America and will Johnson and a talent around them I really like the linebacking core I think they're going to play to the Special Teams as well uh and the offense has to give them enough and I think the challenge here is how up to speed can the offense get during fall camp and really after week one against Fresno State because Texas comes to town on September 7th they have you know a little more certainty as to what they're going to be I know they lost some key pieces but they did a great job in the transfer portal especially with some of their players on offense to replace those guys so uh they're going to be probably ready to go it's going to be a great environment but if Michigan can win that second game gives them a little confidence Breathing Room going into some bigger games a few weeks later um but yeah I mean I I think that with this defense they're going to have a chance in every single game um and that you know that makes it quite exciting but it's going to be different than last year all of college football has changed you know it's not just Texas coming in it's USC it's going to Washington it's playing Oregon at home in November and then obviously you still have your your mainstate opponents like Ohio State at the end of the year so it's going to be exciting um and you know I think there's a room for error too with this 12 team playoff as well so you gota you got to factor that in let's say they do drop the Texas game you know maybe they still still are able to sneak into the playoff because they can get some quality wins with this tough schedule down the road well there's no question on the field and off the field there's going to be a ton to watch what the Michigan Wolverines is here and to get the scoop on all of that fall Camp
