Grant and lang to rest. One of its biggest supporters, Jimmy Connor's life and dedication to the city were celebrated. This morning news watch sixteen's Melissa Steininger explains how friends and family honor, the champion of the city. Every pew of Saint Peter's Cathedral was filled this morning. A testament to the life and legacy of former Scranton mayor, Jimmy Connors. Remember that when you leave this earth, you can take nothing that you have received, but only that which you have given. Connors was elected to lead the city three times, serving from 1990 through 2002. But today, the former mayor was better known as Papa, as his son, Zach and granddaughter Quinn shared some personal memories. He never missed an opportunity to not only tell us that he loved us, but to tell us why he loved us. I loved him because he was profoundly kind, empathetic and sincere those traits shined through in his service to the city as well. His kindness, his sense of humor and his leadership. Basically, anything good in me is a direct result of him, whether it be copying the way he would do something or just how to treat people in general. His legacy was known both in and out of City Hall, even though my dad did a million things in life. He always thought about one thing, what was best for the people of Scranton. He said to me recently I turned around and I had a career, I didn't even realize it. He told me it went from being about helping the kids in the neighborhood all the way to becoming mayor from there. It was just about helping families in Scranton and being a presence for good in the community. And we'll continue to live on shining throughout the city of Scranton, Melissa Steininger News watch 16 Scranton.
